Percentage of Americans believe Dubai Ports World should be allowed to purchase operating rights to several U.S. ports, according to a new poll by Rasmussen.
I’d like to think that reflected a considered view but when 72% claim to be closely following the story but only 39% know the current rights are owned by a foreign company,15% think they’re US owned and 46% aren’t sure, this ends up as a typical visceral response by Americans. 81% have an opinion and 61% don’t know what they’re opining to!
Plus 27% think foreign ownership generally should not be allowed? I had no idea there were that many rocks in this country under which people could hide. Stunning.
Rasmussen also had Bush at 49% approval on Monday, so are we cherry picking polls again?
Rasmussen also has support for Hillary tanking and at near lows?
Being that I am consistent, that number sounds right, but so do the earlier ones I mentioned. Sheesh – someone has to set the ThinkPropoganda machine correct.
Wouldn’t it be great if that meant that 83% of Americans believe Bush is screwing up our nation? Maybe they do and they just don’t care. My vote is for a recall election in 2006 and if that fails once we get congress back in 2007 we call for an impeachment.
#5 – not really, considering Rasmussen has Bush at 44% approval today.
I think polls don’t mean much, but Bush should take heed on this issue. We cannot sell our ports to Arabs. We should also ask Hillary and other Democrats why they suddenly accept racial profiling? I think it’s a wonderful turn of events for Democrats. Of course, I don’t see how honest liberals can like that.
Bush’s family friends are terrorist – an interesting attack considering liberals spend endless amount of time sympathizing with America’s most vicious enemies.

Something that started out to be a useful entity, the Sharing of Knowledge and Ideas has become an entity of Political and Corporate Propaganda and Rocks.

In related news, Rasmussen has found that of the Republicants in this country, exactly 17% are fiercely loyal to the president and are willing to believe everything and anything he says.
ILB – why are you praying that our enemies win? Your screen name says it all – you enjoying watching death and destruction in Iraq. At least you are honest.
“Rasmussen also had Bush at 49% approval on Monday, so are we cherry picking polls again? Samuel Alito”
I think you mean 44% pumpkin, but it’s OK. The partisan brain can’t really process facts, or think with a rational capacity, so I forgive you for getting this number wrong. And yes rasmussen is notoriously pro-republican partisan in its poll figures, so if they say only 17% approve of the Bush plan, you can be sure it’s more like 10%.
“I think polls don’t mean much, but Bush should take heed on this issue. We cannot sell our ports to Arabs. We should also ask Hillary and other Democrats why they suddenly accept racial profiling? Samuel Alito”
Oh sweetie, you should ask Ann Coulter or the rest of the rightwing partisans about that topic, you guys seem to be the expert. But considering that Dubai was the origin of 2 9/11 attackers, and the royal family have met with Bin Laden, and that Al Qaeda was funded from their country – this sounds more like a case were republicans just don’t care about american security more than anything. But I forgive you for not being able to process reality. The partisan (that would be you), is just concerned with their ‘team’ as opposed to how that team plays. Poor thing, you have my pity.
The position against the port sale needs to be formed succinctly because it is often framed, I believe, incorrectly. In the media, most of the arguments against the $6.8 billion dollar deal are framed as though they are xenophobic in nature as they highlight “Arab†as the real pitfall in the deal. However, they seem to obscure the real facts here.
Currently the ports are under control of P&O, a private British-based company. The agreement would change possession to Dubai Ports World, a state-owned company from the United Arab Emirates.
See the difference? No, not between Britain (white) and the UAE (brown) but rather “private†and “state-owned.†Such a difference should be the first point of contact in arguing against this sale. Would we want a state-owned company, of any country of origin, to be in control of our ports? I think anybody concerned with our national security must conclude “no.â€
“Bush’s family friends are terrorist – an interesting attack considering liberals spend endless amount of time sympathizing with America’s most vicious enemies.”
Is it uncomfortable reading kult scripture while squatting, eunuch?
America’s most vicious enemies are the ones destroying the Constitution and perpetrating crimes of torture, abuse, and murder upon the world’s population. It is sad and unfortunate that you choose to side with the terrorist. But, you will face your judgment and it will be your task to reconcile your actions. Good luck on that.
Sammy like;
James a. Baker, who watched the September 11 attacks at the Ritz-Carlton with the Bin Laden family. He has been hired by the Saudi’s to defend against a trillion-dollar lawsuit brought forth by the September 11 families.
or
President George W. Bush’s past business connections with the Saudi-based Bin Laden family. The firm is demanding that GWB’s father, the original President Bush, immediately resign from his post as a paid senior adviser to the Carlyle Group, a private Washington equity firm that according to The New York Times has essentially become the nation’s 11th largest defense contractor.
Carlyle’s investors include the Bin Laden family, which has disowned its terrorist son Osama; Bush Sr.; and former Bush inner guard members Nick Carlucci and James Baker.
#15 – just like liberals put up a fight when Clinton was selling our nuclear security to China in 1999? Partisan liar.
Republicans won’t let this happen and we say no to Bush that usually means it’s a done deal. Either he caves like he did on Miers, or he’s get impeached. Conservatives control this country because Democrats are too unreasonable for Bush to ally with. Maybe if you weren’t such rabid partisans, he might compromise.
Maybe it is just that there are 17% of Americans that are truly ignorant. I personally believe that anyone who supports Bush is either stupid OR the hate America. They definitatly hate civil liberties, poor people, women, blacks, students and the environment. It seems the only thing they love is big oil, Halliburton and Enron
“Republicans won’t let this happen and we say no to Bush that usually means it’s a done deal. Either he caves like he did on Miers, or he’s get impeached.”
As long as the kult remains viable, correct eununch?
Actually SAM groups such as yours are Traitors to America.
Remember SAM that Bush said he was Freeing the Oppressed?
Now your Saying the Opressed are Terrorists?
First your Pro-Life SAM then your Pro-Death?
Then your pro freedom for Iraqis
Now your Pro-Death to them.
SAM seems to think its OK to kill innocent Children, as long as they are Not American Children, Right SAM?
Any Neocon who actually thinks they can ride the feel good wagon spreadin’ democracy is delusional. America don’t care ’bout New Orleans. They sure as hell don’t care ’bout “Towel Heads”.
Optimist – you are facing your judgement day as we speak. All of the lying and scandal of the Clinton years cost Democrats every branch of govt. AND your subsequent treason in the WOT has alienated you further from voting Americans.
It’s sad day when Bush pulls a moronic stunt like this and Democrats are still probably going to be the minority party come November. As incompetent as he can be, the alternative is too scary for Americans to even consider letting the radical left back in power.
You might want to try something more subtle than
the basic cut and paste red-meat O’Reilly spin
points. They are tired and silly, especially as
the GOP corruption machine falls further and
further under indictment.
You are free to say silly things if you want,
but you are not fooling anybody with the obvious
spin.
Come up with a decent argument. This issue is not
black and white and I could argue your side better than you are. Use your brain. I know it can be hard to
wean yourself from spoon-fed propaganda, but you
will need to do it so you can help create a new
GOP corruption machine to replace this one.
I don’t see many Liberals walking through the biggest little sheet head ranch in Texas holding hands with the Prince of the biggest biggest little sheet head terrorist country in the world. This gives new literal significance to the metaphorical cliche about King George the Dumb, the next Duke of Dubai (click on Clyde) being in bed with the Arabs.

AND wait til Justice Stevens and GInsburg retire later this year – then you really will have be more open to other views.
#32-SA,
My conscience is clear and I do not need a politician to tell me what’s right and wrong, I can think for myself. I’m sorry for you that you do not enjoy such freedoms.
Also, I think that you are actually Mrs. Alito. All I see from you now is a bunch of insincere theatrical boohooing. Need a tissue beatch?

Are you serious? What in his history suggests this? The saying give him an inch and he’ll take a mile sounds more true.
Conservatives control this country because Democrats are too unreasonable for Bush to ally with.
I guess that’s why the conservatives are the ones doing these back door deals and trying to circumvent every law they can?
Republicans won’t let this happen and we say no to Bush that usually means it’s a done deal.
Another Rovian trick to try to take a goal for the Democrats and tally it to the Republicans. Face it your party is corrupt and people don’t want your “ideals.” There is NOTHING the conservative party can take a firm stance on these days.
“It’s sad day when Bush pulls a moronic stunt like this and Democrats are still probably going to be the minority party come November. As incompetent as he can be, the alternative is too scary for Americans to even consider letting the radical left back in power.”
It is statements like this that prove you are a kultist. It is actually comforting to know that you only read scripture and ignore all other sources. Keep reading eunuch, I just wish I could see your flailing November third.

Ergo your Left and Right Spew mean nothing.

The partisan brain and its ‘irrational’ actions in play. Poor pumpkin, I feel sorry for you, and how silly you look. You say just the most bizarre and nonsensical things. Were you raised to believe in the Christian Myths of the earth being flat, and the donkeys that can talk? It would explain how you ‘jump’ from silly to sillier while pretending that you are using logic. Poor thing, I forgive you for your irrational hate speech.
There will be a massive power shift at my job this summer.
The only massive power shift i see in the future has something to do with Abramoff and flip-flopping Republicans who get proven they are weak on terror and bad for the country.

Oh, now I see. You are one of the boychildren. How old, I guess 15? Jesus, just when you think you got a genuine eunuch troll they turn out to be a boychild.
Conservatives control this country because Democrats are too unreasonable for Bush to ally with.
Does this mean you are going to stop blaming Clinton for everything? If they are in control then it looks like we can blame them for all the recent and impending governmental failures.
If we argue simply that it is an Arab country as why it should not operate the port, we play into this Rush-talking point “all of a sudden Democrats are for racial profiling.”
The poor Sam troll probably doesn’t know that despite the largely pro-republican slant of the Rasmussen Report polls of presidential approval, only 23% of those polls ’strongly’ approved of the president. The remaing 21% only ’somewhat’ approved. That’s how Rasmussen gets higher results than other polls. Most polls simply ask do you approve or disapprove of the actions of the president. In those polls Bush tends to barely break 40% on a really good day.
But Sam, I forgive you for your partisan brain, and distortion of political issues. It’s what a partisan does pumpkin, so you’re just acting on your ‘instincts’, your fear and your hatred like any primitive animal would.
I wonder about that sometimes. I understand
that wing-nuts border line lie quite a bit,

as if they really couldn’t solve a proof or
analyze a complex problem.
I suspect most of it is just an act (I think
O’Reilly and Rush play act most of the time -

has to wonder.
I like this Hawking quote along these lines:
“The greatest ememy of knowledge is not

Wing-nuts seem to have this in a very bad way.

For the first time ever I believe King George the Dumb, the next Duke of Dubai, when he said he knew nothing of this deal before it happened. I cannot imagine any competent boss, supervisor, director, CEO, or president of any organization letting a subordinate (it would have had to be a subordinate because KGtD,DoD is the acting (poorly, I might add) leader of the country and lawfully has no superior) make a decision of the import of the UAE deal without consultation. I, as would any other legitimate leader at any level, would have fired the bastard and cancelled the deal until I evaluated the situation and made my own decision. KGtD,DoD’s reaction was to scream “Don’t touch that! You will mess up______’s deal and I will veto you.” My thinking is that the only one fitting the blank is Daddy Bush (read Carlisle Group) and the other little sheet heads in bed with KGtD,DoD. It won’t be long before we are all bowing to the East while the Bushco and the little sheet heads have their way with us.
As incompetent as he can be, the alternative is too scary for Americans to even consider letting the radical left back in power.
I know my family was pissed off about all that prosperity of the nineties. That’s assuming you are calling Clinton radical left. Sorry to break it to you sweetie pie but the radical left has never been in power.

How would that make the Democrats look foolish? Infuriate the world is a good plan? Stealing oil from countries is what low income earners want? Like we would see anything from that? The only people that can possibly benefit from this are the thugs in charge of oil companies.
Bush knew nothing about this Dubai deal? Bullshit! Ill bet he knew that the UAE, as a precursor to the event, donated 1 million to the future Bush presidential library as is now being reported by RAW STORY.
The man is one of the most disgusting individuals to ever come down the pike. Raw Story is also reporting that the elections people in Florida have awakened and realized that Bush did not win that state back in 2000. What happens now? We force Bush to resign and install Gore as president?

This is what Happens when TV has become more important than actually reading.
‘Reality TV’ created a False Reality. Such is why Neo-cons use that medium to make their own ‘Reality’.
This is also what Fukuyama speaks of as ‘Realism’
when its actually Hegelian Trickery.
That’s right.
They have been exposed.
They tried to play dumb on the UAE deal.
They were supposed to crack Towel Head skulls
and take their oil.
Instead they lined their pockets with Monarchy Blood. Now noone like ‘em.
#24 – “just like liberals put up a fight when Clinton was selling our nuclear security to China in 1999?”
Or just like Pres. Bush crying like a baby over the Chinese impounding our “spy plane” when it fell out of the sky over their air space? Did we ever hear about how much of our technology was stolen before they decided to release our service members?
Oh, let me guess, Sammy thinks that Pres. Bush was showing leadership by “politely asking” for the terrible Chinese to: “Please, oh pretty please with sugar on top, return our spy plane and our service members to us, Mr. Chinese, sir! We promise we won’t retaliate for your stealing our technology, because I mught pee myself if you raise your voice!”
So much for Pres. “Macho” Bush standing up to the Chinese. Go peddle your lies to trolls who don’t question your calumny, Scalito.
Everybody wants the Iraqi (oil) steal of the century to happen republicans, low earners, mortgage payers, workers and especially the federal reserve bank

Matt O: thanks for your help but the framing isn’t the issue.
The “deal” is going to go through in the sense that DPW will close on the purchase of P&O. The question is whether that deal will include the leases in the US.
The follow up question is what happens if the leases are to be carved out. As I’m sure you know, there are few US companies available to bid on these leases and the company which lost the P&O auction is a Singaporean government controlled entity.
So I’m curious, as I usually am when I see an emotional issue like this one, where virtually everyone says the UAE can’t buy the leases to discover what people think the outcome should be.
Remember that P&O is dissolved when the UAE buys the stock. They are no more, they have ceased to be,they are an ex-company.And the jobs in those port terminals as well as on those docks are American jobs.
So,if the UAE doesn’t take those leases, there will have to be some plan to deal with the terminals, anyway.
Would you be ok with the Singapore government owning them? Would you rather see them shut down and the jobs lost rather than see the UAE take over. Or should each of the Port Authorities which are the counter-parties to the lease hire the people?
What is your (or anybody else’s) fall-back position?
Everybody wants the Iraqi (oil) steal of the century to happen republicans, low earners, mortgage payers, workers and especially the federal reserve bank
the democrats are not being heard cause Bush just might manage to steal the worlds oil yet and that would make democrats look foolish
DP World is the precurser to the Middle East Free Trade Agreement (MEFTA). The nogiations have been ongoing with Oman and the UAE since last March. This is the real money behind the DP World deal. For some reason it does not seem to have much traction yet.
The democrats I think dont speak out against the war because monkey boy Bush just might manage to steal all the worlds oil reserves …therefore most say morgage paying americans , workers fear for the future ……If Bush pulls this steal off …and America becomes rich again the democatrats will look very foolish …I think
See above, and “we” means the US. I have been posting this here and kos, Glen Greenwald, and a few others, but it does not have any traction. It should, it is the billion dollar question.
1) Do real due diligence, i.e., follow the rules
2) Really beef up port security
3) Make sure records are kept on U.S. soil
4) Make Bush cronies give up any holdings
related to UAE company or related
5) Look closely at UAE ties to terrorists
How much you want to bet those are the 16% most racists Americans… mostly from the south …and 100% brain dead bush supporters … plus 1% of those are peaceniks that think there are no bad people in the world…
What is your (or anybody else’s) fall-back position?
I looked at the Whspr wave product. Its really only 36 pound hollow polystyrene Squares, Buoyed, filled with water or foam that floats across a port of Entry.
The Technology is Simple. I dont see the Need to Use a Foreign Service.
The Biggest Question is, to me, WHO is gonna search the Ships and check the Cargo holds and Manifest Sheets. Frankly I would like to see American Citizens, of all Races, get these Jobs.
Yet TJM im missing something in these Articles, Is their another Business Aspect We arent seeing?
Not surprisingly, this was Saddam Hussein’s strategy in 1980 when he initiated hostilities against Iran in a war that would last for eight years. Saddam was an American client at the time, so it is likely that he got the green light for the invasion from the Reagan White House. Many of Reagan’s high-ranking officials currently serve in the Bush administration; notably Rumsfeld and Cheney.
this is ODD, it sets the Euro against the Dollar.
If Bush manages to control Irans oil. Then it might also Escalate into a World War. That seems to be Richard Perles Goal.
If the Dollar gets Sold off the Neo-Cons and their OILY Brethen, along with the American Economy will go Bust.
YaY I agree this UAE deal is kinda important. But not nearly as much so the IRAN war that may begin.
I don’t buy into the “attacking Iran” fear. We might do airstrikes, but that is all we are capable of doing now.
Follow the money. This is the only constant with these idiots. Iraq was a low hanging fruit with the second largest reserves, that is why we chose it. Now fast forward to the idiotic world of the neo-con circa 2010. Iraq is stable pumping a reliable source of crude, and by god it’s about time we brought them into the MEFTA. We are talking billions of not only saved tariffs, but billions of infrastructure investments.
What I am wondering about the port deal
is not whether Bush knew, which doesn’t
matter since he has been proven to be
a zero time and again, but did Rove know?
Could Rove have missed such an obvious
policy fumble?
The difference between the Iraqi tactics used inthe Iran-Iraq War and the tactics used by the military in air-land battle is astounding. Where as the Iranians got to about 600 meters before ingaging Iraqi armor in Desert Storm the Division I was with engaged the Iraqi armor at ranges exceeding 3000 meters routinely with confirmed kills at ranges much farther. Neither country in the 1980-1988 battles ever used their air assests in coordination wuith ground forces, where as that is intrinsic to our tactical approach to any battle we fight on the battle-field, therefore the comparison of what they did and what we would do is like comparing a little league baseball team to any major league team, the skill level and tactics are just not the same.
With every thing I just said I pray that we do not make such a bone headed move to invade Iran with the mess we have in Iraq and Afganistan still broiling and they world definately not behind an enlarging of the battlefield to encompass all three countries, Haven’t they learned anything yet?
afterthought, your answer shows why this is an emotional issue. Your answer is undefined and undefinable. What would really beef up port security? Checking 10% of containers? 30%? What about patrols? Coast Guard staff on every pier 24 hours a day?
Bush cronies? How wide a circle? And what would they give up? What constitutes a “crony”? Any contributor? Or should commenters here form a panel to decide?
Thanks,I’m not trying to put you on the spot or put you down or anything,it’s just that it’s more complicated than keep them out unless x.
You are correct. It is x to get y. But look at it honestly, is it good if we get a free trade agreement? Is it good if we can import oil without tariffs?
Afterthought, see my above posts on the free trade agreement. Just follow the money.
In 1999 the Republican Congress opposed the COSCO co from the California coast.
In November 2001 and January 2002, they are on the east and west coast.
Is that correct?
Sure, but that would go for any deal, right?
I think the fall-out is happening because
the administration didn’t play the “terror”
game like they usually did and people noticed.
I have reservations about UAE. I think there
are reasons for concern. I could be convinced,
but someone will have to do the REAL work.
This was a crony deal and a Beezness deal as
the Russians would say, and BushCo got caught.
So sad.
I agree with you 100%. This was a just another
self-serving deal for BushCo.
What it shows is that they never gave a rats ass
about security.
It was all just a cover for corruption and cronyism.
I knew this for some time (just paying attention,
not smart about these things). The problem for BushCo
is that a number of other people get the message now
too.
Marie, the opposition to Cosco was they wanted to move into what were former US Navy facilities. The move was denied them but they were able to expand where they had facilities.
To Sam, I believe I have figured out what your “day job” is. Ventriloquist’s Dummy !! I must say, you are perfectly suited for the job, considering that you are so good at letting other people do your thinking for you. The hand shoved up your “Hershey Highway” is just a bonus. Now if we could get your “Puppet Master” to say anything that makes any sense at all…. You are not even interesting enough to be boring.
Hello America How are you ,Oh You’ve fell under a Fascist boy toy of Big Corporations and The People Lost their will to Fight Back Via voting but then again Diebolz is on your side.
Unhappy events abroad have retaught us two simple truths about the liberty of a democratic people. The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of a private power to a point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism – ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. Franklin D. Roosevelt : Message to Congress proposing the monopoly investigation, 1938 http://informationclearinghouse.info/article12058.htm
“It is also in the interests of a tyrant to keep his people poor, so that they may not be able to afford the cost of protecting themselves by arms and be so occupied with their daily tasks that they have no time for rebellion.”- Aristotle in Politics, J. Sinclair translation, pg. 226, 1962

One of these Right wing viewpoints is not like the others:
Profiling Muslims? – Fine because they’re probably terrorists.
Imprisoning Muslims without due process? – Fine because they’re probably terrorists.
Torturing Muslims? – Fine because they’re probably terrorists.
Invading Muslim Countries? – Fine because they’re probably terrorists.
Spying on phone calls to other countries? – Fine because they’re probably terrorists.
Letting a country with actual ties to terrorism manage many large US ports including military ones? – Fine because not all Muslims are terrorists, you racist, liberal bastards!
Democrats, you better take to arms! Embrace the gun or embrace your end!

Im Loading My Honda with Exxon Oil and and going to WALLY world and get a CHINESE weapon and some FOREIGN made clothes from MARIANA then some fish from SAIPAN and Im gonna RUN YOU DERN PUBLICANS OVER WITH MY HONDA!!
I don’t buy into the “attacking Iran†fear. We might do airstrikes, but that is all we are capable of doing now.
Yes I understand. The Article/Link that Monkey Wrench is postingt mentions a narrow strip of Land that will allow the MONEY err Oil to flow without Destroying Iran.
I think I said it may be war propaganda concerning the mini- nuke, Air strikes on this blog. II agree, it COULD well be a scare tactic given Bushs propensity to use Propaganda.
I don’t know if this was covered already, but does anyone know how long time Bush family friend James Bath fits into all this? He always seemed to turn up whenever the Bush family wanted to get something done with an Arab nation, usually funding for one of the president’s failed businesses.

Thousands of years ago, wise men knew of people like Bush&Co.
#114, worfeus,
I saw F 9/11 twice and I think it’s time to rent it again — as time goes on it is even more telling of the truth about Bush and informative of the nefarious activities of Bush&Co.
The rightwingers hated it because the truth can be hurtful — it depicted the deviate nature of their leader.
Also,
I rented and re-read 1984 about three years ago, it was chilling. A couple months ago I bought a copy and am in the process of reading it again.
I think Americans would do well to devote a few hours to seeing how prophetic was that little Orwell novel. Worse, it doesn’t have a happy ending.
The voter should remember this and vote out of office those that in anyway support it.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:22 pmSounds like a “mandate” to me.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:23 pmI’d like to think that reflected a considered view but when 72% claim to be closely following the story but only 39% know the current rights are owned by a foreign company,15% think they’re US owned and 46% aren’t sure, this ends up as a typical visceral response by Americans. 81% have an opinion and 61% don’t know what they’re opining to!
February 24th, 2006 at 4:26 pmPlus 27% think foreign ownership generally should not be allowed? I had no idea there were that many rocks in this country under which people could hide. Stunning.
Rasmussen also had Bush at 49% approval on Monday, so are we cherry picking polls again?
Rasmussen also has support for Hillary tanking and at near lows?
Being that I am consistent, that number sounds right, but so do the earlier ones I mentioned. Sheesh – someone has to set the ThinkPropoganda machine correct.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:27 pmWouldn’t it be great if that meant that 83% of Americans believe Bush is screwing up our nation? Maybe they do and they just don’t care. My vote is for a recall election in 2006 and if that fails once we get congress back in 2007 we call for an impeachment.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:31 pmDon’t worry, Alito, you don’t care about polls. So move along.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:32 pm#5 – not really, considering Rasmussen has Bush at 44% approval today.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:35 pmAmerica is not going to allow Bush to be friends with Arab monarchies. It’s plain simple.
Bush’s family friends are terrorists.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:36 pmSamuel Alito has a kiddie porn boy fetish.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:38 pmYeah, these are the good ole days of indictments and 49% approval. Yippee!
February 24th, 2006 at 4:39 pmBush’s family friends are terrorist – an interesting attack considering liberals spend endless amount of time sympathizing with America’s most vicious enemies.

Recognizing the UAE’s ties to terrorism is NOT racism. Saying all Arabs are terrorists IS racism. Are you that ignorant?

I see Wwallace has become Sam Alito
February 24th, 2006 at 4:41 pmIn related news, Rasmussen has found that of the Republicants in this country, exactly 17% are fiercely loyal to the president and are willing to believe everything and anything he says.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:42 pmILB – why are you praying that our enemies win? Your screen name says it all – you enjoying watching death and destruction in Iraq. At least you are honest.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:42 pm“Rasmussen also had Bush at 49% approval on Monday, so are we cherry picking polls again?

February 24th, 2006 at 4:43 pmsympathizing

people against the port deal are racist.
Whatever….Get you story straight, Sweatin’ Sammy Alito.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:43 pmTell us what we do and think. I can’t keep up.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:43 pm“Bush’s family friends are terrorist – an interesting attack considering liberals spend endless amount of time sympathizing with America’s most vicious enemies.”
Is it uncomfortable reading kult scripture while squatting, eunuch?
February 24th, 2006 at 4:43 pmI don’t give a flyin’ SH*T about Arabs. Bush let’s ‘em harbor terrorists though for a price. That’s treason.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:45 pm#11-SA,
America’s most vicious enemies are the ones destroying the Constitution and perpetrating crimes of torture, abuse, and murder upon the world’s population. It is sad and unfortunate that you choose to side with the terrorist. But, you will face your judgment and it will be your task to reconcile your actions. Good luck on that.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:45 pmSammy like;
These friends?
February 24th, 2006 at 4:46 pm#15 – just like liberals put up a fight when Clinton was selling our nuclear security to China in 1999? Partisan liar.
Republicans won’t let this happen and we say no to Bush that usually means it’s a done deal. Either he caves like he did on Miers, or he’s get impeached. Conservatives control this country because Democrats are too unreasonable for Bush to ally with. Maybe if you weren’t such rabid partisans, he might compromise.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:46 pmBush was elected by scared goobers who wanted to smash skulls. Now they see him swallowing Arab jizz.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:46 pmMaybe it is just that there are 17% of Americans that are truly ignorant. I personally believe that anyone who supports Bush is either stupid OR the hate America. They definitatly hate civil liberties, poor people, women, blacks, students and the environment. It seems the only thing they love is big oil, Halliburton and Enron
February 24th, 2006 at 4:48 pm“Republicans won’t let this happen and we say no to Bush that usually means it’s a done deal. Either he caves like he did on Miers, or he’s get impeached.”

February 24th, 2006 at 4:51 pmOptimist – you are facing your judgement day as we speak.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:51 pmNothing against the UAE: I just think any nation would be unwise to put it’s port operations under another nations Gov’t owned control.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:51 pmDear Trolls,
You might want to try something more subtle than
February 24th, 2006 at 4:51 pmthe basic cut and paste red-meat O’Reilly spin
points. They are tired and silly, especially as
the GOP corruption machine falls further and
further under indictment.
You are free to say silly things if you want,

Come up with a decent argument. This issue is not
black and white and I could argue your side better than you are. Use your brain. I know it can be hard to
wean yourself from spoon-fed propaganda, but you
will need to do it so you can help create a new
GOP corruption machine to replace this one.

February 24th, 2006 at 4:55 pmMaybe if you weren’t such rabid partisans, he might compromise.
February 24th, 2006 at 4:56 pm#40 – Alito doesn’t need a tissue. Now that I’m on the Court, it’s all ok. Gee, what piece of liberal judicial activism can I strike down today?

February 24th, 2006 at 4:57 pm#43 – Nov. 3rd will be too late anyway. There will be a massive power shift at my job this summer. You’ll be hearing much more about it in the coming months. Liberals will go nuts and spoil any good will they had left with the public. It is COMING, it is REAL.

February 24th, 2006 at 5:09 pmthat wing-nuts border line lie quite a bit,
but some of the logic they use is so obtuse
as if they really couldn’t solve a proof or
analyze a complex problem.

O’Reilly and Rush play act most of the time -
all the way to the bank), but sometimes one
has to wonder.
I like this Hawking quote along these lines:
“The greatest ememy of knowledge is not
ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.”
Wing-nuts seem to have this in a very bad way.

Jeff Gannon is firing you?
February 24th, 2006 at 5:09 pmFor the first time ever I believe King George the Dumb, the next Duke of Dubai, when he said he knew nothing of this deal before it happened.

How would that make the Democrats look foolish? Infuriate the world is a good plan? Stealing oil from countries is what low income earners want? Like we would see anything from that? The only people that can possibly benefit from this are the thugs in charge of oil companies.
February 24th, 2006 at 5:24 pmBush knew nothing about this Dubai deal?
Sounds great to me.

‘Reality TV’ created a False Reality. Such is why Neo-cons use that medium to make their own ‘Reality’.

February 24th, 2006 at 5:26 pmMatt O: thanks for your help but the framing isn’t the issue.
February 24th, 2006 at 5:26 pmSo,if the UAE doesn’t take those leases, there will have to be some plan to deal with the terminals, anyway.
Would you be ok with the Singapore government owning them? Would you rather see them shut down and the jobs lost rather than see the UAE take over. Or should each of the Port Authorities which are the counter-parties to the lease hire the people?
What is your (or anybody else’s) fall-back position?

February 24th, 2006 at 5:29 pmActually Paul in Mexico
DP World is the precurser to the Middle East Free Trade Agreement (MEFTA). The nogiations have been ongoing with Oman and the UAE since last March. This is the real money behind the DP World deal. For some reason it does not seem to have much traction yet.

See above, and “we” means the US. I have been posting this here and kos, Glen Greenwald, and a few others, but it does not have any traction. It should, it is the billion dollar question.
February 24th, 2006 at 5:33 pm#104,
1) Do real due diligence, i.e., follow the rules
2) Really beef up port security
3) Make sure records are kept on U.S. soil
4) Make Bush cronies give up any holdings
related to UAE company or related
5) Look closely at UAE ties to terrorists
If all that is covered go with the best deal.

February 24th, 2006 at 5:56 pmNot surprisingly, this was Saddam Hussein’s strategy in 1980 when he initiated hostilities against Iran in a war that would last for eight years.
February 24th, 2006 at 6:02 pmthen on Second thought if the US falls under the EURO Dollar, so as to not go Bust, then another Step in the World Global Order has been Achieved.

Mr Ho
I don’t buy into the “attacking Iran” fear. We might do airstrikes, but that is all we are capable of doing now.
Follow the money. This is the only constant with these idiots. Iraq was a low hanging fruit with the second largest reserves, that is why we chose it. Now fast forward to the idiotic world of the neo-con circa 2010. Iraq is stable pumping a reliable source of crude, and by god it’s about time we brought them into the MEFTA. We are talking billions of not only saved tariffs, but billions of infrastructure investments.
February 24th, 2006 at 6:09 pmWhat I am wondering about the port deal
February 24th, 2006 at 6:20 pmis not whether Bush knew, which doesn’t
matter since he has been proven to be
a zero time and again, but did Rove know?
February 24th, 2006 at 6:21 pmafterthought, your answer shows why this is an emotional issue.
February 24th, 2006 at 6:21 pmTJM
You are correct. It is x to get y. But look at it honestly, is it good if we get a free trade agreement? Is it good if we can import oil without tariffs?
Afterthought, see my above posts on the free trade agreement. Just follow the money.

So sad.
#124,
I agree with you 100%. This was a just another
February 24th, 2006 at 6:34 pmself-serving deal for BushCo.
What it shows is that they never gave a rats ass
about security.
It was all just a cover for corruption and cronyism.
I knew this for some time (just paying attention,
not smart about these things). The problem for BushCo
is that a number of other people get the message now
too.
Afterthought
Yes, but is this when they become really dangerous, now that all pretense is dropped?
February 24th, 2006 at 6:36 pmMonkey Nut Wrench,
Very interesting and I found a new term:
“global resource war”
That is the new name for the Iraq war as far as I am concerned.

Franklin D. Roosevelt : Message to Congress proposing the monopoly investigation, 1938

I think I said it may be war propaganda concerning the mini- nuke, Air strikes on this blog. II agree, it COULD well be a scare tactic given Bushs propensity to use Propaganda.
February 25th, 2006 at 3:38 amI don’t know if this was covered already, but does anyone know how long time Bush family friend James Bath fits into all this? He always seemed to turn up whenever the Bush family wanted to get something done with an Arab nation, usually funding for one of the president’s failed businesses.

You really need to go by a copy of Farenheit 911, and watch it several times.
