My God, William F. Buckley is an anti-American, surrender to the terrorists, cut and run coward.

Also, read up on the 7 paratroopers arrested in a pay for porn gay scandal.

To think, if only they had sodomized Iraqis they would be getting support from Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh.

  2. Left coast Mike says:

Shrub hasn’t killed enough Americans yet, I’m sure he has a quota to fill before we withdraw. The man is a fu*king idiot and needs to be removed one way or another. Impeach the bastard and vote out the rest of his cronies. C’mon America get with the program, this is our country that is being sold out and our children that are giving their lives for nothing. They don’t want us there and we have absolutely no business in Iraq.
FU*K BUSH and the sorry bunch of asses governing this nation that have no balls to speak out.

  3. ricki says:

Granite, totally agree about Bush being an idiot and all, but give the military a break. We have our idiots too, but don’t denigrate the whole institution…..

  4. Clif says:

Wonder if the GOP will disown Buckley too.

GSD; IRI posted that to in the thread about Roves silver lining at #122 under the title

    Brokebutt Mounties Strike Again

so I offered him a chance to join, since he has that homophobia streak next to the yellow one.

IRI see they really need you in the army and right now… go only you can save our military… quick before the decadentcy spreads, and bring your pellet gun they will be soooooo impressed, they probably will make you a private-major

  5. kindness says:

I have to give Bill Buckley credit, at least he’s honest. That as opposed to all the apologists we hear here every day.

Still, It’ll be curious to see if this is like “if a tree falls in a forest and there is no one around to hear it does it make a noise” with other republicans.

We’ll see. I bet they ignore it and act like he isn’t even there. You know, they’ll look at each other and grimice like someone farted.

Nope, it was Dumbya who just layed the pile in the middle of the living room rug. What are we gonna do with that king?

  6. Glad, Damn Glad says:

Destroyer, let me quess – you didn’t read the op-ed. His conclusion includes this statement.

“[Bush] will certainly face the current development as military leaders are expected to do: They are called upon to acknowledge a tactical setback, but to insist on the survival of strategic policies.”

Buckley believes the strategy should be modified by acknowledging postulates that did not go as expected. He points to the training of Iraq security as one of those failures, but he clearly doesn’t advocate “cut and run”.

Better luck next time, sweet tits.

  7. napu says:

    Failed?!
I don’t think objective failed at all.
Operation Desert Freedom(freeing of oil for Bush’s friends) is success! That operation became War on Terror which is also success because it is not winable war so they can crusade indefinitely until our tax dollars are exhausted and many more lives are wasted by us and everyone in between. Of course no such loses are made by the ones who makes most of the profit.

And here we are debating and talking about how outrageous this republicans and media have been and how impotent democrats are while we are still getting sucker punched constantly. Katrina disaster and now port deal to UAE?!

It was never actually war on terror. It is purely war profiteering racket. Nothing about dictatorship or facist. They are the means to keep getting rich for few of close friends.

  8. Gary Ruppert says:

  9. milky truthiness says:

If there were two of you right-wing morons left on the Earth Gary you would fight to see who could throw the other under the bus first. In fact, if it was just you, I’m sure the right hand would attack the left.
Someone at the home come over, turn off the computer and strap this guy back into bed please.

  10. Granite State Destroyer says:

Garry, the building is burning bubba. The smart ones are heading for the exits. The dumb ones are running further into the building looking to grab some jewelry and cash and hope to make it out before it collapses on them.

Also, add Bill O’Reilly and Francis Fukuyama onto the surrendercrat scorecard.

In the words of Jack Murtha: “Just because they say it is doesn’t make it so”.

    -GSD

  11. Kenny H. says:

This administration’s policies in Iraq have been a failure since before we invaded. This disaster is no surprise given the lack of planning and incompetence. Sadly, too many Republican voters believe we are winning, instead of seeing the obvious fact that Bush and his cronies are taking tax dollars from every American to line the pockets of their friends–Halliburton, oil companies, Carlyle Group, et. al. If only the conservatives would open their eyes and look around, they would realize they are throwing away their conservative Christian values for an administration that doesn’t believe in helping the poor and has run up a national debt larger than all previous administrations combined. Conservatives must be pig-headed, near-sighted, ignorant, or all of the above.

  12. Dem02020 says:

Thanks for the link to the WFBJr editorial.

He titled it ‘It Didn’t Work’

The gist of the piece seems to be that the U.S. has failed to capture the ‘Hearts And Minds’ of Iraqis, because ‘animosoties’ inherent in those people are keeping them from embracing a Government of our choosing, and he refers to the administration’s fantasies about Iraq as being ‘postulates’; failed ‘postulates’.

And he states that the President is now faced with trying to find ’strategically appropriate concessions’ and a ‘mitigation of policies’.

All of which is talk too obscure for me to make anything sensible of; which is why I’ve always paid little attention to WFBJr editorials.

But before he concludes the piece, he says the President…

“will certainly face the current development as military leaders are expected to do: They are called upon to acknowledge a tactical setback, but to insist on the survival of strategic policies.”

STOP. The U.S. Military has already accomplished whatever objective any U.S. Armed Force could be expected to have done in this circumstance:

    1. They toppled the ‘Regime’.

    2. They captured Sadaam.

    3. And they captured or killed Sadaam’s heirs to government.

    in addition to…

    4. Providing as much internal security to the nation of Iraq as possible, leading up to and past their national elections of Dec. 15, 2005.

And they, our Sons and Daughters, did all this at the expense of 2,287 of their own lives.

And so STOP: The U.S. Military did their job; Honorably, Admirably, and Successfully.

Is this what I’ve heard referred to as ‘dog whistle politics’, WFBJr’s call for ‘military leaders’ to ‘acknowledge a tactical setback’, and ‘to insist on the survival of strategic policies’?

More death for U.S. Troops, for our Sons and Daughters?

    STOP. WFBJr says…

“the American objective in Iraq has failed”, and “Our mission has failed”, “The failure in Iraq”, and concludes his editorial with the word “defeat”

…none of which applies to the U.S. Military; all of which applies to the administration’s ‘objectives’ (which WFBJr, and the administration itself, conveniently fail to state); and so regarding the continued deaths of our Sons and Daughters (which WBFJr seems to be calling for, with a ‘dog whistle’), I say…

STOP. 2,287 is more than enough to have done their job; and their job has been done.

    Honorably, Admirably, and Successfully.

  16. Gary Ruppert says:

When it comes to Bill O’Reilly, he has always been a bit too soft when it comes to the War.

The fact is that there’s a lot of opportunists who are abandoning our President over this DPW thing.

The entire Democrat line of attack on DPW is based on lies and irrelevant facts.

  26. Clif says:

Smedley they will do no more for Iraq than they do for New Orleans, those at the top basically just don’t care.

  27. Spudge_Boy says:

    Clif,

blackboxvoting.org was created around the time that the Diebold source code was posted to an unsecured ftp. That was 2001.

  28. Spudge_Boy says:

    And then this came in:

    CNN
    February 24, 2006
    Pentagon: Iraqi troops downgraded

    null

The only Iraqi battalion capable of fighting without U.S. support has been downgraded to a level requiring them to fight with American troops backing them up, the Pentagon said Friday.

The battalion, made up of 700 to 800 Iraqi Army soldiers, has repeatedly been offered by the U.S. as an example of the growing independence of the Iraqi military.

The competence of the Iraqi military has been cited as a key factor in when U.S. troops will be able to return home.

“As we see more of these Iraqi forces in the lead, we will be able to continue with our stated strategy that says as Iraqi forces stand up, we will stand down,” President Bush said last month. (Full story)

The battalion, according to the Pentagon, was downgraded from “level one” to “level two” after a recent quarterly assessment of its capabilities.

    Gary Ruppert,

This is not part of a left wing plot. This is the Pentagon, you know, where Rumsfled works? This doesn’t have any spin on it, it is just a report. This isn’t because I hate Bush’s guts, it is because Bush and friends didn’t have a plan for Iraq, unless you are going to count the “Strategy for Victory in Iraq” PR campaign that failed miserably and wasn’t released until late last year.

  29. thot's n TN says:

    # 7 I read the Article by Bill Buckley ,question what article did you read “NU”
I can tell you the main reason behind all our woes — it is America.” The New York Times reporter is quoting the complaint of a clothing merchant in a Sunni stronghold in Iraq. “Everything that is going on between Sunni and Shiites, the troublemaker in the middle is America.”

Also Al Q Claimed responsibility for the bombing in his “Homeland” but no one has stepped forward to claiming the bombing of the Shia’s Most Holy Temple wonder why?? Let me guess because it was rummysfeld ordered? I know in my heart of hearts that it was American Ordered no Shia or Sunni would commit such a henious SIN. bush crowd has not one shred of Morals.

How do we get Bill Buckley on CNN with Wolf W.H. Blitzbush? Then their paid W.H. pundits could get a free education.. I’ve not been a fan of National Review but I may read a copy now!

  30. Vance says:

I wonder if Bush and Laura Braun Bush will be retreating to the “Bunker” soon with Cheney and Rummy? One is still allowed dreams here in Amerika, arent they???

  31. Hardass says:

Dean , Murtha and finally Buckley have it right : let’s get tje hell out .

  32. Clif says:

#33 A Liberal Democrat, a Conservative Democrat and a Conservative Republican, all want basically the same thing and the boy (I wonder how I got in this mess) can’t figure it out yet?

  33. Jeffer says:

Looks like Bush is having a “Walter Cronkite” moment: “If I’ve lost Walter Cronkite, I’ve lost the country.” Bush, of course, cares little for the country, but without his “base,” he is doomed, and more and more of that base is flaking away.

  34. Fight the power says:

Gary, see comment #7 and read the original article.

Buckley is not a “surrendercrat” and neither are the Democrats. Buckley is starting to understand what Democrats have been saying for years; we need to start analyzing Iraq more critically. What we need to do is understand why Bush’s policies failed in Iraq and come up with a better way to solve the problems. That does not enable the terrorists or hurt our troops. They both already know Bush’s policies have failed.

Neocon closed loop thinking at its best.

  37. Briseadh na Faire says:

    Mr. Ruppert,

You’re back. So nice to hear from you again. You haven’t bothered to respond to my earlier post on the Eisler thread:

You wrote, “The fact is that the current Congress is one of the cleanest in History…” Do you have any support for such a claim? Please cite your sources and distinguish between original sources and interpretive sources.

Also, please explain what you mean by the term “cleanest.” By what criterion do you measure cleanliness in Congress? Do you have any quantitave analysis based upon your criterion? Are you basing your statement on any studies (quantitative or qualitative) published in a peer-reviewed journal?

In other words, Mr. Rupert, if you are going to make an assertion of fact, back it up or shut up.

My apologies for misspelling your name, but I do await a response.

And you still haven’t replied to my post on the Orin Hatch thread:

    And now you are saying:

Saddam did support al-Qaida. There’s no doubt about it. He supported their mission to destroy America.

Just because some commission claimed that he didn’t have links doesn’t mean that Saddam diddn’t support al-Qaida.

Again, back up your statements with facts, original sources, quantitative analysis, peer-reviewed journal articles, etc. or shut up.

Seeking peace does not mean one is a “surrendercrat.”

Seeking peace means that one has realized that war is no longer a viable option to resolve disputes.

  38. ElectricBassPlayer says:

    NeoCons are Bush worshippers.

True conservatives never wanted to go to Iraq in the first place. Neither did liberals. For the same reason: IRAQ HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11.

The cult of personality surrounding Bush is a form of idolatry. One more example of un-Christianness of America’s current political landscape.

  39. Briseadh na Faire says:

I suggest all read the article. Mr. Buckley has done a credible job holding up a mirror to President Bush and asking him to take a good, long, hard look at where He is and where He is going.

I doubt this one article will have much effect, but it is one more straw added to the camel’s back.

  43. worfeus says:

    Question;

What exactly do these men, who grew up with guns, war and violence, and after 2 years of intense training by the US Military, and being equipped with our equipment and tactics, need to learn yet to protect themselves?

When our dads were drafted in WW2, they got 8 weeks basic and maybe another month or two of specialty training, then they were shipped out to fight the crack elite troops of the German war machine.

By now these Iraqi troops should be able to disassemble an nuclear bomb under live fire with one arm tied behind their backs.

What the hell are we teaching them to do that takes 2 years???

  44. worfeus says:

Remember these guys have been living in war conditions all their lives!

I think the truth is they are NEVER going to be ready, because they don’t want to fight for the US, which is what they feel they are doing.

There are currently more Iraqi army troops equipped and trained in the basics than Americans. In fact, there are close to 200,000 equipped Iraqi army soldiers!

I think they can ‘handle’ it if they want to.

  45. worfeus says:

If we pull out I bet they find some motivation real quick.

Hiding the fact that Halliburton needs more time to milk more money from the American people. The same people without national healthcare, who are sinking deeper and deeper into poverty.

I now understand the I.R.A. in Norterhn Ireland. I’m still a pacifist, but I do understand why people resort to violence when all else fails. They are left with no other options. Someone should read George Bush the My Pet Goat version of the French Revolution.

  48. smedley says:

now lets say China invaded America and was assembling an American peoples army and the republicans supporters thought great lets join and the democrate supporters became the insurgency

next would be a civil war ….But the answer would be Remove the Chinese Invaders …Then things would be back to normal and things go great for years to come and everythings rosy …Then up pops another Bush in future…Thats why you have a constitution written …your great leaders of the past and many european philosophers safegaurded your future from rogue Goverments

Also thats why we have human rights and also abolision of the death penalty so as not to be used by rogue goverments the Austrain implemented this after world war two . and Arnold Hitler Swarzenneggar knows this

I thought the object in Iraq was to create a permanent US military presense there? In that case, it’s a success. It’s just that the ease of the Bush cabal’s plan to take over the middle east and all of its oil reserves hit a giant bump in the road called resistance.

  61. William says:

For William Buckley to state that the American objective in Iraq has failed doesn’t make it fact. An individual can make a claim without facts to support it, but it does not mean it is absolute truth!! While one can quite possibly argue that America’s efforts are failing in Iraq, I present I quite different view. America is in fact not failing. In the Civil War, did the Union Army almost lose? Yes, but they didn’t give up when the going got tough, and look, they ended up winning. Did it claim many, many lives? The answer is yes. The sames is the case in World War I and World War II. America will suffer defeats and setbacks. We will lose lives. It is part of life. It is part of war. But we must, absolutely must, not give in to the terrorists. The suicide bombers want us to give in, but we must not. “What’s the proof for my claim?” you ask. Well, we went over there to eliminate Saddam and his terrorist regime. We did just that and now he is on trial. The people just participated in a free election. They no longer worry about risking their life. The United States is currently working on setting up the government, but to say we need to give up just because their is violence really shows no backbone. In conclusion, there is no longer a maniacal dictator killing his own people, advocating terrorism, supporting the takeover of Israel, and possessing WMDs. And yes, I have a transcript of a senior official under Saddam who stated that there were in fact weapons of mass destruction just prior to the Iraq invasion in 2003. He said that they had used them on the Iraqi citizens and had plans to use them on Israel. He stated that they then moved the WMDs to Syria before the invasion.

  62. William says:

It is very true that America is facing setbacks in the Iraq War; however, for William Buckley to state that the American objective in Iraq has failed does not make it fact. An individual can make a claim without facts to support it, but it does not mean it is absolute truth! The original post gives the assumption that Buckley’s words are, in fact, truth and treats it as a statement from a governmental department. While one can quite possibly argue that America’s efforts are failing in Iraq, I present a quite different view. America is in fact not failing. In the Civil War, did the Union Army almost lose? Yes, but they didn’t give up when the “going got tough,” and they ended up winning. Did it claim many, many lives? The answer is yes. The same is the case in World War I and World War II.
