Number of Iraqis killed last week in sectarian violence. “The toll was more than three times higher than the figure previously reported by the U.S. military and the news media.”
The disclosure of the death tolls followed accusations by the U.S. military and later Iraqi officials that the news media had exaggerated the violence between Shiites and Sunnis over the past few days.
Iraqi Politics 101:
Every Shiite wants to kill every Sunni
Every Shiite wants to kill every Kurd
Every Sunni wants to kill every Shiite
Every Sunni wants to kill every Kurd
Every Kurd wants to kill every Shiite
Every Kurd wants to kill every Sunni
shhhhhhhhhhhhhh…quiet…just tell the public a few died. An old trick is to ‘revise’ the numbers ‘after the fact’ a few weeks later. We’ve all seen this many times before. I remember rummy saying that there ‘may’ be some civilian deaths. No one will say, but estimates are 30,000+ and more than that wounded. I just wonder what the 34% think about that…?
Yet Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice et al, all appear to sleep soundly, exercise, eat well, even quail hunt.
They need to be brought before the world court – this is the result of their handiwork. They should suffer emotionally, physically and financialy. Every way that hurts them.
Vice-President Henry A. Wallace wrote in the New York Times on 4/9/44:
“The really dangerous American fascist…..is the man who wants to do in the US – in an American way – what Hitler did to Germany in a Prussian way. The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist, the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public, but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power.
“They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guarunteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective toward which all their deceit is directed is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection.”
Rmember, the population of Iraq is 1/10th the size of the population of America. So, you would have to have the death of 13,000 Americans in America to get the same percentage effect on the population. Can you imagine if 13,000 Americans were killed last week due only to the political affiliation? But don’t call it a civil war.
#15 Well, having a quarter of a milion americans in his soil (130.000 troops + civilian employement + “contractors”), the equivalent population of a not-so-small city, maybe them do not consider the “american problem” a “foreign” one.
How many people died in “sectarian violence” here in the U.S. during the 1860’s? Or have you forgotten about our little “War of Northern Agressions?” We fought a Civil War here in this country and became a stronger country because of it.
#21. How many Americans of 1860 would have chosen the death and destruction of the next 5 years – the next 150, if #23 is right – if they had known what lay ahead? I think very few.
btw: i don’t believe that anyone can be serious and both call it the war of northern agression and believe it made the country stronger. so, forget that i took you seriously the first time.
Mr. Lincoln was not very popular in 1863, but he had a plan, and the ultimate result of 600,000 deaths in a bloody and unpopular war, was Peace to all, and Freedom to millions who had never tasted freedom. No newspaper journalist could distract, slander or threaten him from that plan.
There is no civil war.
Up is down.
Black is white.
Bad is Good.
February 27th, 2006 at 8:32 pmAt that rate, it will only take 392 years for the country to completely depopulate. At last, we have a light at the end of the tunnel.
February 27th, 2006 at 8:42 pmStuff Happens.
February 27th, 2006 at 9:11 pmThey are toiling overtime trying to find a way to spin this into GOOD NEWS!
February 27th, 2006 at 9:17 pmSpeaks for itself
February 27th, 2006 at 9:30 pm1300, huh? Can we have Rumsfeld run the numbers again and tell us, this is a what percentage improvement from Saddam’s rule?
February 27th, 2006 at 9:34 pmWe know where the dead bodies are, they are north, to the south, east and west of Baghdad somewhat.

Marie if the court is held in Thailand and gets to add on special punishment, televised world wide.
February 27th, 2006 at 10:56 pmIf ine trained Iraqi Batallion somehow equates to 120 trained , by republican math, how many deaths are equal to 1300??
February 28th, 2006 at 3:01 am#8 Don’t forget: every Iraqi wants to boot americans from Iraq.

February 28th, 2006 at 9:50 amThat’s taught in Iraqi Foreign Affairs 101.

February 28th, 2006 at 10:19 amWhat about those boneheads who claim Iraq has a lower crime rate than D.C.?
February 28th, 2006 at 11:33 am#17 Well, D.C. has the Congress and the GOP. Maybe isn’t so innaccurate.
February 28th, 2006 at 11:45 am#15 Well, having a quarter of a milion americans in his soil (130.000 troops + civilian employement + “contractors”), the equivalent population of a not-so-small city, maybe them do not consider the “american problem” a “foreign” one.
February 28th, 2006 at 11:48 amAnd they say it’s nOT civil war? Geez…

February 28th, 2006 at 1:07 pmExactly right, Jason. In Iraq, Bush has started a real civil war.
I’m not sure about your whole “Civil war is good” political theory.
February 28th, 2006 at 4:03 pm#21, some would say the Civil War is still being fought…., it certainly seems the Vietnam War is still being fought if 2004 is anything to go by.
February 28th, 2006 at 4:23 pm#21. How many Americans of 1860 would have chosen the death and destruction of the next 5 years – the next 150, if #23 is right – if they had known what lay ahead? I think very few.
