Fox News: Iraq Civil War “Made Up By The Media?”

Fox News continues its crackerjack analysis of sectarian strife in Iraq. Previously, it explored whether “an all-out civil war in Iraq” could be “a good thing.”

Now they have an new theory. Moments ago on Fox:

Maybe they should ask the families of the roughly 1500 Iraqis who have died.

    Step 5. Blame the victim

The MSM is to blame for stirring up the specter of civil war in Iraq, eh? Well then, let’s take a look at what people inside Iraq are saying, shall we?

The last few days have been unsettlingly violent in spite of the curfew. We’ve been at home simply waiting it out and hoping for the best. The phone wasn’t working and the electrical situation hasn’t improved. We are at a point, however, where things like electricity, telephones and fuel seem like minor worries. Even complaining about them is a luxury Iraqis can’t afford these days.

The sounds of shooting and explosions usually begin at dawn, at least that’s when I first sense them, and they don’t really subside until well into the night. There was a small gunfight on the main road near our area the day before yesterday, but with the exception of the local mosque being fired upon, and a corpse found at dawn three streets down, things have been relatively quiet.

Some of the neighbors have been discussing the possibility of the men setting up a neighborhood watch. We did this during the war and during the chaos immediately after the war. The problem this time is that the Iraqi security forces are as much to fear as the black-clad and hooded men attacking mosques, houses and each other.

…I’m reading, and hearing, about the possibility of civil war. The possibility. Yet I’m sitting here wondering if this is actually what civil war is like. Has it become a reality? Will we look back at this in one year, two years… ten… and say, “It began in February 2006…”? It is like a nightmare in that you don’t realise it’s a nightmare while having it- only later, after waking up with your heart throbbing, and your eyes searching the dark for a pinpoint of light, do you realise it was a nightmare…

Aha, this makes sense now…. Under the banner on 27th Feb, ’send Clinton’, Little Roy Cohn (otherwise known as his nom de plume, Andrew Sullivan) ardent Iraq War supporter (”The decadent Left in its enclaves on the coasts is not dead – and may well mount what amounts to a fifth column.”), now proposes to send Bill Clinton to sort out the incipient Iraqi Civil War.

So when Bill goes, it can “all Clinton’s fault”. I see the master plan…

  29. Gerald Gibson says:

I have now changed sides in this debate. After all this time tipping my hat towards the left I now have finally gotten the evidence I was looking for to know where I should stand.

You see this whole thing has to do with Bill Clinton. He was actually a space alien. The republicans have been trying to save America from the alien invasion and that is why they tried getting rid of Clinton. That is also why they hate Hillary…what kind of human being would marry an alien?

Anyway the Iraqis are aliens also. And the reason that we didn’t find any WMDs is because alien WMDs are deathray guns and we had just assumed we should be looking for bombs.

ALL of this has been covered up by the mass media…because they are aliens. And these godless aliens have been brainwashing America into being godless also ever since 1929 right before the aliens made the stock market crash which setup the arrival of the head alien at the time FDR.

When the right finally gets their facts straight and lines it all up for you to see…their story is quite convincing.

No civil war? Negroponte either did not get that memo from rove or hasn’t read it yet.

WASHINGTON – A civil war in Iraq could lead to a broader conflict in the Middle East, pitting the region’s rival Islamic sects against each another, National Intelligence Director John Negroponte said in an unusually frank assessment Tuesday.

“If chaos were to descend upon Iraq or the forces of democracy were to be defeated in that country … this would have implications for the rest of the Middle East region and, indeed, the world,” Negroponte said at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on global threats.

Saudi Arabia and Jordan could support Iraq’s Sunnis, Negroponte said. And Iran, run by a Shiite Islamic theocracy, “has already got quite close ties with some of the extremist elements” inside Iraq, he added.

While Iraq’s neighbors “initially might be reluctant” to get involved in a broader Sunni-Shiite conflict, “that might well be a temptation,” Negroponte said.

The AEI Kristol FAUX news and Murdoch Fascism explained by Mr Ledeens cheerleader plans for death and destruction

More think-tank “ISM’s” and rehashed history renamed, again.Heres what the head Machevellian ‘thinker’ has to say about neo-consMichael Ledeen, leading neocon theoretician, expert on Machiavelli, holder of the Freedom Chair at the American Enterprise Institute, regular columnist for National Review—and the principal cheerleader today for an extension of the war on terror to include regime change in Iran.

Ledeen has gained notoriety in recent months for the following paragraph in his latest book, The War Against the Terror Masters. In what reads like a prophetic approval of the policy of chaos now being visited on Iraq, Ledeen wrote,

Creative destruction is our middle name, both within our own society and abroad. We tear down the old order every day, from business to science, literature, art, architecture, and cinema to politics and the law. Our enemies have always hated this whirlwind of energy and creativity, which menaces their traditions (whatever they may be) and shames them for their inability to keep pace. Seeing America undo traditional societies, they fear us, for they do not wish to be undone. They cannot feel secure so long as we are there, for our very existence—our existence, not our politics—threatens their legitimacy. They must attack us in order to survive, just as we must destroy them to advance our historic mission.

    to that drivel anymore.
Anyway, we were discussing Fox’s attempt
to run through the usual list of spin points.
    Just to recap:
    1) Deny it
    2) Blame someone else (In this case the media,
which is Fox too – they aren’t not too bright
    on that network)
    3) Clinton maybe? Liberals maybe? Certainly
someone who has nothing to do with it and

    4) The Iraqis for having a Golden Shrine to begin

Okay, Dick “They are in their last days” Cheney.

The reason why Fox has the story at all is because civil war is what you guys have been praying and hoping for.

Yes, because you never hear us PROGRESSIVES complain about the innocent people that have already died as a result of this illegal war. We are just smart enough, just like George H. W. Bush, to realize that going into Baghdad would lead to a civil war. But, you are too young, don’t have military experience to realize that.

Maybe just hoping, since you guys don’t believe in prayer.

You guys don’t hold a monopoly on religion. Dumbass.

I hope our military along with the Iraqi army takes out the rest of Al Qaeda once and for all and can finally bring peace to Iraq.

  70. slappymagoo says:

This is a desperate “duck left feint right” attempt to divert attention, one that nobody should fall for. By getting us to talk about whether the civil war is made up, it distracts from the very real need to withdraw troops from Viet…er, I mean Iraq. Every day they’ll throw another asinine accusation towards the left. While the left tries to formulate a thoughtful honest answer, Fox will throw out three more zingers. It doesn’t matter whather or not they all stick, they just have to keep the left constantly on the defense, so that no change is made to the Administration’s plans.

THe time has come for everyone in the media to start using “Fox News” and “Weekly World News” in the same sentence. Don’t get angry, don’t hurl invective, and don’t take them seriously. Their nonsense should be considered on par with Bigfoot Babies, Bat Boys & Losing Weight the 12 pounds of fudge daily stories that is the WWN’s stock in trade. Just roll your eyes and say “oh, that Fox, pulling lies outta their fat white asses again!” The more we say that, the less anyone but the most diehard conservatives-the ones whose heads would explode if they didn’t believe Fox’s horseshit-will choose to watch or believe the lies Fox spin.

“Civil War in Iraq: Made Up By The Media?”

Oh, Fox, you and your horseshittery. It would be funny if it weren’t for the fact that so many impressionable senior citizens take you seriously. But it’s still horseshittery. There’s a civil war. Keep lying about it while earnest intelligent talk about the next step.

  78. James says:

1500 would appear accurate with a possible error of 2-300. The tallies are based on morgue counts but the folks at the morgue know a spike when they see one.

AP Wire Service was reporting a 1000 count yesterday evening and that was based on morgue counts – not all bodies go straight to the morgue or are picked up quickly.

Anyway, alot of Iraqis are dying in sectarian violence.

Note the AP story about Sunnis sending arms into Baghdad so they will be ‘prepared’ against the Shiite militias next time?

Well, it’s the Kurds that have less to worry about. Their force is pretty good at maintaing security.

Fox is unbelievable. I bet they declare a civil war a period in which 50,000 Iraqis die in one month. Seriously, what number will it take?

We also have Khalizad as our ambassador to Iraq now. The man thinks he is a modern colonial ruler. Remember the stories of him in Aghanistan and how he was central to all the brokering? Well Iraq isn’t Afghanistan and he is meddling and taking sides at the same time. He was a bad choice for an ambassador. He also makes his opposition to ministers publicly know which is incredibly stupid.

There is a real question of what we do if/when this civil war starts – right now it’s more revenge attacks centered on Baghdad, although it is spreading. The Shiite militias would need to get really involved for it to be a full scale civil war.

Right now ethnic cleansing would describe Iraq pretty well. It’d certainly describe ‘Kurdistan’.

I think Bush would intervene in a civil war. He obviously doesn’t care about his approval ratings and the Congress wouldn’t cut funding if it was seen as hurting troops – at least not in any huge way. Bush wants a LEGACY and his legacy will be horrid. Letting Iraq plunge into a civil war and break apart would, in his mind, ruin both that adventure and his grand plans for the middle east.

Expect heavy American intervention if such a thing occurred. Sadly we’d be drawn into a conflict that would probably bring in the neighbors. Turkey would probably not get involved just because of its EU aspirations.

  79. Spudge_Boy says:

1500 would appear accurate with a possible error of 2-300. The tallies are based on morgue counts but the folks at the morgue know a spike when they see one.

When bush says we are fighting terrorists in Iraq, (5% at best of the insurgency) he is only keeping the smoke screen up for assholes like you. (you should really try using your nose, breathing from the mouth is seen as ape-like in some circles)

See every day our 140K+ troops are deployed in Iraq, is that many meals Hallifuckus can charge for, and that many more they can say they served and charge anyway. You think our Tax dollars should spend $45 for a case of coke? You just don’t have a mind of your own. You don’t know what to do when you realize you lost, you are following a loosing party. Remember, they were buying Kuwait oil for over double the price, OUR TAX DOLLARS MIND YOU. but that is fine with you.

We should be winning the hearts and minds of the Muslims, instead we are gearing up more suicide bombers. Iran has over 6 million suicide bombers ready to go. What are asswipes like you going to do when the flood Iraq and show up in our malls while your fat stupid dirty girl friend is shopping for nascar and britney spears record. Bush cracked open a hornets nest. Even Reagen was smart enough and knew what the old school of power says, You play your best hand – if bush was half a man he would meet with the Iranian president and just simply tell him: If USA is hit with any Nuke, no matter who did it, Iran will be off the map the very same hour. It is basic leadership. We are the greatest nation in the world, the best arsenal anywhere. We don’t have to run, or “fight them over there”. We just have to use what we have with intelligence. I bet you love the port deal too right, anything for Bu$hco is perfect for you, just don’t let him get a blowjob ha? Oh but I have a feeling you wouldn’t care if bush cheated on his wife, Monica-gate was just the only stick you could hit Clinton with that hurt.

    Democrats gave us the internet
Democrats gave us the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (Republicans hate this kind of stuff; they’re very mean)
Democrats gave us Affirmative Action (which 64% of Americans favor. Don’t listen to the right-wing disinformation machine: affirmative action has helped the income, promotion and labor force participation rates of both women and minorities. That’s why Republicans hate it. If it hadn’t worked, they wouldn’t mind.)
    Democrats promote space exploration
Democrats gave us the Family & Medical Leave Act
Democrats gave us the Consumer Product Safety Commission
Democrats cleaned up the Great Lakes (did so!)

    Democrats gave us truth-in-advertising laws

Democrats promote scientific & technological research
    Democrats promote student financial aid
Democrats promote child immunizations (which reached record levels under the Clinton Administration)
Democrats make the poverty rate go down (Check it out: the New Deal reduced America’s poverty rate from over 50% to less than 20%)
Democrats lower the crime rate (it dropped for 8 successive years under Clinton–the longest continuous drop on record; what can I say?)
Democrats fought discrimination (The Republicans supported it: remember?)
Democrats help develop alternative energy sources (whereas the Republicans plan to take us down with the dinosaurs)
Democrats control immigration (better than Republicans; Bill Clinton exported more illegals than any President ever)
Democrats created special education programs, handicapped education programs, job retraining programs, etc., etc. (Republicans destroy same, capice?)
Democrats improve the educational system (whereas Republicans sell it down the river)
Democrats protect you from malignant corporations (Republicans feed you to them)
The GNP grows more under Democrats (thought you might like to know)
Democrats lowered the teen birth rate (under Clinton, to its lowest rate in 60 years)
Democrats deactivated more than 1,700 nuclear warheads from the former Soviet Union (Clinton again. Thank you, Bill!)
Democrats gave us the highest home ownership rate in American history (Clinton again)
Democrats converted the largest budget deficit in American history into the largest surplus (which GWB has incredibly turned back into the biggest deficit AGAIN!)
Democrats gave us smaller government (That’s right! The Federal government grows much less under Democrats)
Democrats reduce federal spending (to the lowest level since 1966 under the last elected President)
Democrats gave us the most exports ever (under Clinton)
Democrats can get the FDA working again (do not take any drugs approved under this administration; it’s that bad)
Democrats would represent most people (most people want the liberal things–environmentalism, gun control, international cooperation, less torture; Republicans, by contrast, want things that most Americans hate)
Democrats can fix this gross income-inequality thing (income equality correlates significantly with mortality rates, crime, poor educational outcomes, substance abuse, etc.)
Democrats are not so into crackpot science & crackpot stats (science backs up the Democrats; junk science backs up the Right)
Democrats will give us a health-care system (think about it; the lifespans of Canadians are now 2 years more than ours–because of their healthcare system)
The African-American poverty rates dropped to their lowest levels EVER under the last Democratic administration.
The poverty rate for single mothers reached its lowest level EVER under Clinton.

  86. TJM says:

Fox news has an effect on what, a million people? It’s a sideshow. There is little doubt that the majority of Americans have figured out that no matter how many times GWB says “stay the course” that the strategy just isn’t working. Why do you think the republicans in Congress are using the DPW deal to put out the idea that they don’t march lock step with the president?
The strategy won’t change, though, until we see more than a couple of deaths a week. When the real civil war breaks out (like if we were stupid enough to hit Iran) and the death toll mounts, then there will be real pressure to change course.
Just like the FAA does after crashes, changes are written in blood.

  87. Spudge_Boy says:

    TJM,

The Golden Mosque was blown up on February 22, 2006. Exactly one week ago. A rough estimate of the deaths is 1,500 in that week. But, as I said above, morgues are turning away bodies, because they are full. This is a lot more the a couple of deaths a week.

#87 theres more than a couple American deaths a week more like 2-3 a day

The Iraq war is burning $100,000 a minute, 6 Billion a month!

For what? to line the pockets of US contractors while handing Iraq over to Iran?

We are witnessing the complete breakdown of our government. It’s not a question. It’s real. The administration does not give a shit about us. Period. End of story. There is no argument. There are no grey areas. They are all intent on screwing us out of everything we have and leaving us a destitute 3rd world country. I’m not guessing or crazy or going off half cocked. They have malice aforethought. They don’t care about our troops. They don’t care what anybody thinks. The agenda is nearly complete. The United States of America has been raped, looted, and her heart has been ripped from her body. The bloody carcass is now being dragged behind a pickup truck somewhere on a ranch in Crawford Tx…

See asswipes like you need a history lesson. Our founding Fathers, wrote the Declaration of Independence because of the SAME THINGS BUSHCO is doing.

“THose willing to give up security for Liberty deserves neither” Ben Franklin.

Liberty means respect of others ideas, every one has sovereignty over their thoughts, lives and property. THis means I am protected from assholes like you who are willing to give up their freedom like scared little girls.

    F U C K F O X and assholes like you.

    http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=viewArticle&code=VAL20060216&articleId=1984
    Land of the Puppet People
Manipulate the American citizenry into a warmongering escapade
Never before has a society been afforded the wealth and excessiveness that we possess, yet neither has a citizenry been subjected to the consequences invariably arising in order to achieve those ends. Unhappiness, depression, financial hardship, stress, inner demons, anger, dislike, psychological problems, undisciplined and unreared children are some of the costs of maintaining our standards of living. The escapism needed to forget the madness of these costs, accumulated year after year, in daily life, work, finances and society, stands like an idol ready to be worshipped in the middle of our homes, its dark screen awakened with the push of a remote control.

It is the television, that drug of mental escapism and intellectual erosion, the invaluable purveyor of fantasy and fiction, that serves to distract, distort and alleviate the stresses of a life made exceedingly harder by the continued growth of the corporatist state, where profit will always supercede people and the interests of the corporation will always trump those of the People. Yet in the television we also see the greatest tool of mass manipulation ever created, in the last few decades discovered by government and corporate interests for the incredible power emanating from its warm glow. In the span of a couple of decades it has transformed human society, acting as the corporate and governmental invasion of our homes, and into our brainwaves, affecting both the innocent and the old, indiscriminately penetrating the minds of black and white, male and female.

The propaganda emanating from its waves and the fiction produced by its owners has mutated American society into one of slouching couch potatoes, dumbed down ignoramuses, lazy and indifferent citizens, unthinking drones and brainwashed primates, turning a citizenry of creativity, vision, imagination and intelligence into one devoid of each, eroding the minds of experience and altering those of innocence, slowly catapulting America into the precipice of intellectual and knowledge collapse. It is the television that has created the amnesia running rampant from Pacific to Atlantic, saturating us with the brain manipulations of the corporatist world, creating a population needing the sensationalist programming designed to dumb down and distract, feeding into our minds senseless garbage of celebrity adoration and idol worship, introducing us to wave after wave of scheming advertisements and the thoughts and opinions the Establishment want us to incorporate as our own.

You gotta love Fox News- always ready to spout the latest GOP talking point, 24/7. It’s like a never-ending campaign commercial.

It is clear, based on recent statements by William Kristol, Bill Buckley and others on the Right, that they now realize Iraq has been an utter failure and are already politically working to place blame on anyone other than Bush. This Fox News crap is just part of that.

They will blame the media, they will blame liberals, they will blame democrats and on and on. Great leadership, huh? One of the thing about great Presidents in the past (FDR, Truman, etc) was an ability to take responsibility for THEIR agenda and THEIR decisions. This is a leadership quality that is totally lost on Bush and his loyalists. Karl Rove spends most of his time trying to insulate Bush from everything and the media just sits back and allows it.

Look at the whole Plamegate scandal- BUsh just sat back and played dumb even though it involved his top aides. When WMDs weren’t found, it was all the CIA’s fault despite the evidence trickling out that the administration cherry-picked the intelligence it liked and ignored all the evidence that contradicted their decision to invade Iraq. Hurricane Katrina? Everyone else’s fault. Then with the Dubai Port scandal, the administration is claiming Bush didn’t know about it until it was in the papers- so he’s either an idiot or a liar.

This is the “take no responsibility” President.

    Shameful.

If we can’t take care of our own, nobody will. The world watches and waits for our formerly great republic to completely fail. FOX News will continue to report that it’s Christmas all over the place. They are the reason why the revolution won’t be televised.

…We woke up this morning to news that men wearing Iraqi security uniforms walked in and detonated explosives, damaging the mosque almost beyond repair. It’s heart-breaking and terrifying. There has been gunfire all over Baghdad since morning. The streets near our neighborhood were eerily empty and calm but there was a tension that had us all sitting on edge. We heard about problems in areas like Baladiyat where there was some rioting and vandalism, etc. and several mosques in Baghdad were attacked. I think what has everyone most disturbed is the fact that the reaction was so swift, like it was just waiting to happen.

All morning we’ve been hearing/watching both Shia and Sunni religious figures speak out against the explosions and emphasise that this is what is wanted by the enemies of Iraq- this is what they would like to achieve- divide and conquer. Extreme Shia are blaming extreme Sunnis and Iraq seems to be falling apart at the seams under foreign occupiers and local fanatics.

No one went to work today as the streets were mostly closed. The situation isn’t good at all. I don’t think I remember things being this tense- everyone is just watching and waiting quietly. There’s so much talk of civil war and yet, with the people I know- Sunnis and Shia alike- I can hardly believe it is a possibility. Educated, sophisticated Iraqis are horrified with the idea of turning against each other, and even not-so-educated Iraqis seem very aware that this is a small part of a bigger, more ominous plan…

Several mosques have been taken over by the Mahdi militia and the Badir people seem to be everywhere. Tomorrow no one is going to work or college or anywhere.

People are scared and watchful. We can only pray.

IT’S WORTHWHILE NOTING, for Journalism Majors, Journalists, and especially those that read Journals: This use of the ‘question mark’ in Fox’s on-screen graphic…

Civil War In Iraq: Made Up By The Media?

…now, what kind of reporting is it, that gives it’s readers (or listeners or viewers) ‘questions’ in the headline (or the copy for that matter), when it’s just the opposite you’d expect (which are ‘answers’ of course); what kind of ‘reporting’ is that?

It’ no reporting at all. It’s an attempt to raise doubt where there may be certainty, to raise confusion where there may be uncertainty, and to raise interest where there may be none really at all.

Scandal sheets, gossip rags, snake-oil salesman, marketing/advertisers, politicians, guilty suspects, and Fox News: All those whose ’stock in trade’ is raisng doubt, confusion, and interest in the noise.

But not Journalists, or Journalism. Please.

Regarding the talkling point of ‘Civil War’ in Iraq, and the point behind the Fox on-screen graphic ‘question’:

Don’t think for a second that this is an indication of that talking point ‘not flying’ so to speak; it’s not an example of a trial ballon that ‘popped’, so to speak; it, the ‘Civil War’ talking point, just didn’t fly so high or so straight is all (so to speak).

    Not at the start anyway.

But it’ll be back, to serve it’s purpose; it’ll be flown and floated again, so to speak; it’s a necessary way for this administration to ‘honorably’ characterize the ‘Anarchy’ they have created in Iraq.

And that’s what it is, violent ‘Anarchy’; it’s not the ‘Civil War’ that this administration, and their stooges, would have the American People believe; a ‘Civil War’ for the People, and their Military, to take sides in; to fight in, on the side of the ‘Good Guy’…

…to further justify the continued presence of so many U.S. Troops in Iraq, long after they’ve discovered no WMD’s; long after the ‘Regime’ has been toppled; long after Sadaam has been captured; long after the Iraqi Elections of Dec. 15, 2005; and long after the ‘Anarchy’ that the administration created has consumed the ‘Democracy’ that is not there now,

    and was never there before,

and will never be there ever.

It’ll be back, though; the talking point of ‘Civil War’ in Iraq; you can be sure of it…

…there’s no question (mark) about it.

I am glad my father who was not only a soldier, but a proud American, is not alive to see the constant concern over lands so far away while people suffer injustices and lack of aid in this country. I suppose if there was oil under the city of New Orleans, they would be receiving a lot more assistance than they have so far.

Are we protecting ourselves (the United States) from an unknown evil in Iraq, or are we being political whores to the black gold that runs beneath their country…

This is what was shown by western corporate media.

As quickly as these horrible events began, they were called to an end and replaced by acts of solidarity between Sunni and Shia across Iraq.

This, however, was not shown by western corporate media.”

“We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect rule Iraq,” Bush wrote. “The coalition would have instantly collapsed. … Going in and thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations mandate would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression we hoped to establish.

“Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land. It would have been a dramatically different – and perhaps barren – outcome.”

George Dim Bulb Bush had nothing to do with any of that nastyness, we all know that, Jesus, can’t “Eddie Munster / Neal Cavuato” do better that that, man, what an ass !

  213. Lucas Ferraro says:

I was just wondering because I am only fourteen and in school we have a debate team. We always need to be able to back up our arguments with facts and I was just wondering where do you get all this stuff?

Because if I had a ‘reliable and credible’ sources (that’s what Mrs. Reichter says) I could like make a notecard and use this stuff.

But I need facts to do it so can you tell me?

  214. liberal=pessamistic says:

The media will do all it can to fan the flames of a “civil war” to make Bush look bad. Made up? Probably not, but jumping the gun, oh you betcha!

DO AND THINK THE OPPISITE OF WHAT FOX NEWS SAYS, THESE GUYS REALLY THINK WE ARE A BUNCH OF MORONS!!!!!!!!!

  217. al says:

  218. Buddy Saleeby says:

The media is ANTICIPATING the POSSIBILITY of a CIVIL WAR.
Something like ANTICIPATING the BREACH of the LEVEES.
In both cases to do anything less is to display a startling lack of grey matter– quite common in the reptillian-brain tyoes over at Fox.

  219. EAC says:

Just think for a moment here, most of the things you know about this so called ‘civil war’ came from the mass media. –

So Fox might be right, however they along with their other mass media colleagues will spin it in a different way that would make one to arrive to a different conclusion or even rejected the slighest possibility that it was made up by the mass media. –

So if you rejected the idea that the whole civil war thing was just made up by the mass media, Fox has already reached their goal. Reverse psychology.

  220. ThomasT says:

Fox simply testing if you guys bought the civil war story story that sunnis bombed the golden dome, (when it was UDF/US), read it on rense.com. If you watch fox you are already brainwashed.. And.. the masked militia doing the killing, neither Sunni nor Shia. Guess 99% of the readers/writers here have fallen for the so called ‘civil war’, as this fox test has shown. The arab news differs.

  221. Jim P says:

What’s made up is the war on terror. As the inattention to port security demonstrates, the war on terror is simply a Rovian phrase used by Bush and Cheney to bash Democrats and anyone else who disagrees with their attempt to create an imperial presidency, which could be the first step toward restoring a devine Christian right monarchy.

  222. DENNIS says:

FAUX NEWS>>>THE MOON IS MADE OF GREEN CHEESE!
    WHAT HAPPENED?
WELL COULD THIS “NEWS” BE ON FAUX BECAUSE KATHERINE HARRIS & “DUKE” CUNNINGHAM ARE ABOUT TO SWING FOR TAKING BRIBES & BEING INVOLVED IN FRAUD?
    Just another shell game.
    Smoke & mirrors.
Republican rats caught taking the cheese, so; drop the “news” that a civil war in Iraq is made up.
ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 78 WOULD SEE THIS FOR WHAT IT IS. A DISTRACTION FROM THE REAL NEWS. TURN TO FAUX NEWS FOR YOUR DAILY DOSE OF LIES & A GOOD FAIRY TALE.

  223. Michael says:

Everyone who has’nt should read Rep. Ron Pauls(R) speech delivered on the house floor 7/10/2003. The speech is titled “NEO-conned” and can be read on his .gov website. This is a most poinant “WARNING” to America. This coming from a “true” conservative republican.
Be sure to read the 17 professed tenets of “Evil Inc”. Be sure and don’t miss the part about “creative destruction…at home and abroad”(Hello- 911?)
Nor the bit about it being necessary for a strong leader to “do evil”.
If this does’nt put you in ontological shock nothing will.

Time to forget the divisive left/right, liberal/conservative
Machiavellian(sp?) bull sht. and take the Federation back!

  224. Tyler says:

I don’t know what you guys hate more, that fox calls out the antique media on their liberal bias, or that fox has almost 3 times as many viewers as any other news outlet?

  225. Chris says:

The media is controlled by Republicans. All of these news companies act as unpaid PR firms for the Republican party.

  226. Tyler says:

For my friend up in #82 Anthony

Social Secuity- Most succesful government plan ever? I guess you don’t read the papers, but thats ok
Civil rights legislation – The 1964 Civil Rights Act was an update of Republican Senator Charles Sumner’s 1875 Civil Rights Act
seatbelts & airbags – Congress passed the airbag law in 1998, as if every car in the usa didn’t already have it
public broadcasting – Yeah, thats something we americans can’t live without
Freedom of Information Act – Your naive if you think thats means the government tells us everything now
environmental laws – GO Hug a tree
Americans with Disabilities Act – One thing Dems did right
workplace safety laws, food safety laws, food labeling laws – All these do is impede on capitalism, and find more ways for politicans to tax business
low-income housing – And those have turned out so well! They people who live their treat it with so much respect what i good place for tax dollars to go!
Democrats gave us the Tennessee Valley Project – Smokey the bear says your moron
Peace Corps – Just something for liberals to do after college before they start teaching or work as a enviormental lawyer
Longest period of economic expansion in history (under Bill Clinton) – Sure it wasn’t “Irrational Exuberance” and studies have shown a presidents economic impact isn’t shown till years after they leave office.
lowest infant mortality rate in history. (It’s going up now, of course) Abortions don’t count??
Consumer protection laws – Why is there a law?? Consumer has protection iots called don’t buy the defective product!!
Democrats gave us improved air quality – That shows in the left coast espically in LA, i love breathing in the air their
Democrats gave us the internet Al Gore also said that love story(the movie) was about him and his wife, so you can add that to the list of accomplishments to!
Center for Disease Control & Prevention – Isn’t that the place you call when some retards swallows a bottle of draino becasue they could read the label that said don’t drink. Only question how does someone who can’t read a label dial a phone??
Affirmative Action – Your right most people favour it becasue AA keeps minorities down it sends the message you can’t earn it by yourself so we will help you, and contrary to popular belief most people like to keep other people down.
Space exploration – Not lately, once again paper your got to read them
Family & Medical Leave Act – Oh how great, makre sure those independent woman get their governement mandated jobs back
Consumer Product Safety Commission – Once again don’t buy the product!
cleaned up the Great Lakes – Congratulations, while the republicans were working the liberals were using the tax dollars to pay god knows how many hippies to wade around in the water picking up trash. Good save!
protect endangered species As george carlin says – “99.9% of all species that every lived are extinct, we didn’t kill them all!” Its called nature, just let them go.
Democrats got a ban on CFC’s, DDT, PCB’s, & leaded gasoline – that was close. Unleaded has just cleaned up our enviroment so well I forget we even use gas anymore.
public schooling – HA and thats working out so well. Where did clinton send his daughter again??? (hint private school – Sidwell Friends)
National Weather Service – Worked so well in New Orleans
truth-in-advertising laws – once again if you got screwed don’t go back to the store, basic economics here people, jeez were did you guys learn your economics? public school?
Democrats gave us the Morrill Land Grant Act – Once again we need universities liberals need somewhere to bitch about their former classmartes success in the real world.
Public universities – Republicans don’t mind public universities, I mean where else would 50 years old hippies go to avoid the real wolrd. Those who can, do! Those who can’t, teach. SO true on so many levels.
Promote & fund scientific research – Yeah bush doesn’t give any money, not one cent. Right?
Democrats gave us guaranteed bank deposit – congrats
helped women get the vote – Oh yeah the dems were solely responsible for that. Whatever helps you sleep
Child-labor laws – kids shouldn’t be working they should be at home watching tv with welfare recipent parents. Someone needs to be home to the food stamps from the mail box.
Democrats got us Meals on Wheels – Hillary’s platform in 2008, I smell a winner.
Democrats promote scientific & technological research – Technology, that sounds a lot like electronics which is big business. ooohhhhh scary stop development and the making of cheaper and better products thats the democrat way.
Democrats promote student financial aid – keeping kids in debt since 1970.
Democrats promote child immunizations (which reached record levels under the Clinton Administration) – Wow what a platform, the dems should run on that in 2008
Democrats make the poverty rate go down (Check it out: the New Deal reduced America’s poverty rate from over 50% to less than 20%) – Yeah while FDR was in office highest poverty ever(you dems never say that, u just say he fixed it, never admit he was in offcie almost 7 years before it fixed itself). Then that thing called WWI came around and boom we had jobs. The new deal = whenever the economy is in the toilet start a war, deal!
lower the crime rate – Legalizing abortion will do that. So democrats 1 for you!
Democrats fought discrimination – Your right I forgot a democrat does have the most diverese cabinet. Oh wait no thats bush my bad. But good argument.
Develop alternative energy sources – Really, hows that working out?
Democrats control immigration (better than Republicans; Bill Clinton exported more illegals than any President ever) – Maybe that just means more got in, makes sense. If you catch 10% and send them back. If 500 get in that means you send 50 back. If 1000 get in you send 100 back. So it appears you sent more back when in reality more got in. You need percenatges to prove this point.
    Democrats improve the educational system
protect you from malignant corporations – Yes all the EVIL scary corpirations giving us products we like and can use to better are own lives, oohhhh scary.
The GNP grows more under Democrats (thought you might like to know)- Stats please
lowered the teen birth rate – Once again abortion helps with that too, and it helps that Clinton was wearing a condom back then!
deactivated more than 1,700 nuclear warheads from the former Soviet Union – Clinton yeah he was the guy that took down the USSR, oh wait no that Reagan, damnit again I was wrong.
highest home ownership rate in American history – Clinton did do this, but look at that rate now that all those dot com babies went bely up. Most of those houses now belong to the bank
converted the largest budget deficit in American history into the largest surplus (which GWB has incredibly turned back into the biggest deficit AGAIN!) – Its called a war buddy, it costs money. sorry about raising a deficit that your tree hugging money won’t ever dent and protecting you.
Smaller government (That’s right! The Federal government grows much less under Democrats) – HAHAHA sorry buddy I’m gonna need some facts to back up that claim.
Democrats gave us the most exports ever (under Clinton) – Its called the internet boom
Democrats can get the FDA working again (do not take any drugs approved under this administration; it’s that bad) – Once again stop these EVIL medicine companies trying to help our sick people. How dare you try and make a medicine that works, not under the democrats watch you won’t!
Democrats would represent most people (most people want the liberal things–environmentalism, gun control, international cooperation, less torture; Republicans, by contrast, want things that most Americans hate) – Ok 51% voted for bush hence more then half = majority=most people don’t think that. Nice try though, almost got one by me.
Democrats can fix this gross income-inequality thing (income equality correlates significantly with mortality rates, crime, poor educational outcomes, substance abuse, etc.) – Damn right, how dare someone make more then someone else. who do you think you are working harder and making more money your just selfish. you need to share that hard earned money with people who may not work, but they want it and thats all that counts.
Democrats are not so into crackpot science & crackpot stats (science backs up the Democrats; junk science backs up the Right) – Once again kinda need some facts with points like that.
Democrats will give us a health-care system (think about it; the lifespans of Canadians are now 2 years more than ours–because of their healthcare system) – Yeah but those 2 years of life are becasue they are the blanket of protection we provide. Maybe if stop protecting them all that healthcre money would have to go to a military that can actually defend itself.
The African-American poverty rates dropped to their lowest levels EVER under the last Democratic administration – Abortion, less poor mothers having babies less children to grow up in poverty
The poverty rate for single mothers reached its lowest level EVER under Clinton. – Abortion strikes again, less women having babies less singles mothers Not hard math to figure out.

PS if you guys think the media is conservative. You need to layoff drugs its making u parnoid. The new media is conservative, but TV is still crawling with liberals

  230. enriche says:

Our gov’t will be a completely broken, corporate pocket-stuffing system until the majority of Americans wake up and pay attention.(not likely) The fact the Tom DeLay is breezing through the GOP primaries in Texas is evidence of peoples lack of . The majority of Americans don’t give a rip about doing what is best for the country – they focus on isolated issues, ie. gay-marriage, abortion, stem-cell research that have absolutely no bearing on the long-term preservation of our way of life. How about the horrible financial condition our country is in? Congressmen should get paid last – if there is nothing left – they don’t get paid. How about getting our economy to a much more stable position by having alternative sources of energy available? How about taking care of our country – instead of others. I’ll bet New Orleans would be a much better place today if they got an equivalent level of funding from the government that Iraq is receiving. Who do you care more about – Iraqis or Americans? Our government’s answer is “Iraqis.”

  231. JIm says:

The U.S. media has neatly fallen into the “bad guys” public relations trap. For three years it has searched for a “hot button” to trigger anti administration support and failed…..but now….due to constant repetition by the media has found one: civil war. And instead of the media questioning the “bad guys” mis use of the American Freedom to exploit this hot button…..it has blithely gone along with to foment discontent here.

Why is the American media letting the bad guys exploint it so unquenstioninly? Which leads to the next question.

Lost in all of this is the fact of certain Iraqui causalties. They get very little press. I am speaking of thousands of young Iraqui men who daily volunteer to join the Iraqui army and police……knowing full well that this brave act may get them killed. Yet they keep signing up. Why? And why does our media not address their courage.

They want their country back. They want to practice their religion. They want to receive our training to peacefully exercise their sovergnity. They would only do so, and risk their lives, if we were doing something right….or else they would help the bad guys.

As Oliver North would say on his TV show: “Their’s is a war story worth telling”. Our media should talk about them….not foment and encourse the “civil war” mantra.

FOX news and Hitler supporting holdovers promote the same type of propaganda. They both have the same agenda: To end opposition to the orders they wish to place upon open-minded, educated, and free-thinking women and men who want planet Earth to be a better place.

  234. Rob says:

I think we should ask the men and women who are in Iraq and the soldiers who have served there to what is the real story. The media fox or otherwise will put the spin on it that will get ratings or sell papers. We need the truth from those who have experienced it first hand. I have talked to 3 people who have served in Iraq and they say it is bad but not as bad as seen on tv. Murder has been going on in that country for a long time and no one cared not liberal or conservative. I have deep sympathy for the people in Iraq and especially for our service members. Please do not spew political nonsense if you are a conservative or liberal. We all demean what our troops are doing over there by trying to prove our side is right and the other side is wrong. We all need truth not opinions

  236. Randall says:

Well the results are in and FOX NEWS was right. You may have to deal with the sad fact that Iraq is on the road to democracy and prosperity. We’re not out of the woods, we can still go back to “Uday with a Nuke” that the liberals promised us (because that’s “peace”).

As for bias in the media (clue: it didn’t start with FOX NEWS) ask yourself this. What was the news value of Abu Ghraib? Why was it played 24/7 for months? This was a few “rent a soldiers” that got out of control and were caught by the military. Nope, no libera bias there.

  239. William Fox says:

Agreed that the commercial news media, FOX maybe leading the way here, has clearly become a dog and pony show. I understand why Ted Turner regrets selling CNN. Look what has happened: it doesn’t get any close to “state-runned” programming than this.

  240. Oaksmith says:

idk just found this thread and its been 7 months since randall made his comment about how good Iraq is doing and will be doing.
    still think that now?
there is a civil war and our troops are dieing in the crossfire.
    plain as that.
