Hmmm, wish I knew about this. :)

  2. mpower1952 says:

Did anyone else catch the CBS news tonight? The anchorman asked the reporter about Bush saying after the hurricane that no one anticipated the breach of the levies.

The reporter said that the administration’s explanation was that they knew that a Category 5 hurricane would breach the levies but no one anticipated that a Category 3 hurricane would breach the levies.

    God, my head just exploded

  3. Silly Little American Boy says:

…and the words pictured in the video frame of Bush – “near end” hits on so many levels.

  4. Clif says:

One question not asked, is why with one of the worst hurricanes in this nations history, about to hit the gulf coast, and have a deep impact on the oil infrastructure, did George Bush not think to delay his vacation to Crawford Texas, stay in washington, and moniter the situation directly, and work as a the one person who has the power to remove beaurocratic obstacles to providing any and all relief the federal government could have provided?

  5. Matt O. says:

Josh Marshall reminds us of this quote regarding Hurricane Katrina:

“I don’t think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees. They did appreciate a serious storm but these levees got breached and as a result much of New Orleans is flooded and now we’re having to deal with it and will.” -George W. Bush, Sept. 1, 2005

By definition, that would make him a liar.

  6. Erroll says:

    Clif-

Certainly, in theory, that is what he should have done, which, as you mention, would have been to cut short his vacation and direct operations of the hurricane from the White House. But if the media had carefully, or even casually examined, Bush’s business ventures they would have found that, in his past, he had failed at everything he was involved with. When he was governor of Texas, the real power lay with the legislative branch, not the governor’s office. The painful truth is that even if Bush had actually done what he was supposed to, he was probably doomed to screw it up. He probably would have been furiously riding his bicycle, the whole time asking himself “what should I do, what should I do”?, being too proud or too stubborn to rely upon his aides for advice.

  7. Marq says:

Message to Bush, there is a special place in hell for you, I hope you are ready.

Re: Bush’s past, so true. My Mom has the book “Bushwhacked” by Molly Ivins, and anyone with a brain would only have to read about the first 10 pages to get an idea of what an unqualified idiot we’ve got in the White House.

That’s as many pages as I have read, and I was so damned disgusted that I haven’t been able to read any more since. And that’s been about 8 months ago.

  9. WC says:

Yeah, but all his spin doctors have to do is to say that Bush didn’t literally mean what he said, and in their eyes he’s off the hook. That’s the reaction they had after the SOTU speech in which Bush said he wanted to bring an end to all oil imports from the Mid East.

  10. Jon Swift says:

I don’t think anybody anticipated that this video would come out so how can we criticize Bush for not predicting it?

  11. WaltTheMan says:

This is like the final straw. This individual(asshole) with excretement for brains should be impeached and sent to the World Court for war crimes.

  12. Bowdler says:

Is it possible to have a negative approval rating? If the republicans don’t steal the 2006 election, Bush will get the impeachment he so richly deserves. It should be entertaining to see the right wing pundits explain how he wasn’t bald faced lying.

  13. Marie says:

What are you gonna believe, their excuses or your lying eyes?

  14. mark says:

Caught head-on in another. oh well. shrug.

  15. keepinon says:

#4. If memory serves me correctly, GW had been on vacation most of the month of August. His vacation was scheduled to end the following Friday, or thereabouts I believe. “Oldtimers” is a problem I frequently have these days, so if my memory has let me down, it won’t be the first time and I beg your pardon.

  16. The Moderate Voice says:

New Video Undermines Bush Assertions About Pre-Katrina (UPDATED)…

Yet another credibility problem for President George W. Bush — a potentially big one on what the government knew and what he was told before Hurricane Katrina hits:

  17. JIMBO says:

Bush took more vacations than any President in the whole history of this country. He was on vacation during Katrina and was on vacation at the time of a little thing called 9/11.

That man, as well as Cheney, needs to be taken by force and locked up in a padded cell.

  18. Clif says:

#15 If he was on vacation then the prudent thing to do would have been to return to his duty station and assume the relms of the response for the most destructive thing man made or natural thaty ever hit this country, but instead he went to a birthday party.

  19. mr ho says:

If bush were the commander in chief he says he is, he would have been at the White House working on solutions to the war and Iraq when Katrina hit.

He ran his businesses the same way. By not running them

  20. Gerald Gibson says:

You cant trust video it was made by liberals.

  21. Skeptic says:

Sometimes I think I look at the news in order to get depressed. George Bush knew there was a major hurricane and there was going to be widespread damage and didn’t come back from vacation? Even if the levees had NOT broken the whole lowlying Gulf coast was endangered and would need quick federal help. This is the smoking gun that should end the Bush administration.

  22. Spudge_Boy says:

    Clif,

What everybody keeps forgeting and I keep on posting is Bush was not on vacation in Crawford Texas. On August 29th he was in Arizona pushing Social Security reform and eating cake with John McCain. On August 30, Bush was in San Diego comparing Iraq to World War II and “playing” guitar with a country western singer. He was working, he just wasn’t working on saving the people of New Orleans. I will always hate George W. Bush for this. I used to dislike Bush, but after what he did to the people in New Orleans is unexcuseable in my book. He let innocent people die when it was unesessary.

  23. Clif says:

    Spudge I posted this;

  24. Skeptic says:

    Spudge;
I’m not sure I count campaigning as “working”. He was basing himself at his ranch not the White House.

  25. Drew Mackenzie says:

    So… March goes like this:
    – Cheney shoots an old man in the head
    – Iraq crumbles into civil war
    – Republicans lead fight on UAE port deal
    – Bush Katrina lies revealed on videotape

  26. buzzbomb says:

Pretendin’ I can play guitar while people are
    drownin’ is hard work.

  27. buzzbomb says:

Isn’t there a homeless alcoholic bum in D.C. someone could
scrape out of the gutter to run the country for the next three years? Could he be any worse?

  28. Clif says:

#26 Actually it looks like he’s doing lip exercises for Jeff Gannons next visit, but you never know nabout these things……..

  29. Armando Gomez says:

Again, Bush is caught lying through his teeth. Only this time it’s on video tape! The tape shows Bush got explicit Katrina warning from Michael Brown, now former FEMA Director, nearly begging Bush and that trash, Chertoff, to do something, anything to help the citizens of New Orleans! But Bush’s expression for the ordinary American is always the same: the hell with you. And that was the result of Katrina on New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Be prepare for the mainstream media and the Republicans to spin this one.

  30. richb says:

quote from Gov Blanco, NO excuses for FEMA…but this was first a local gov’t failure. If the Mayor / Governor had pre positioned water, porta potties, food stuffs at the Superdome and Convention Center….’some’ misery could’ve been prevented….it was a gov’t failure from local to the feds. I know it’s beat up on the President time again…but the local people should not get a pass on their failures.

    quote

Later in the call, White House aide Joe Hagin asks specifically about the condition of the levees. Gov. Kathleen Blanco tells him that no failures were confirmed –”We keep getting reports in some places that maybe water is coming over the levees,” Blanco said. “I think we have not breached the levee. We have not breached the levee at this point in time.

  31. Clif says:

richb…. with everything you said do you think that bush’s best move was to go to a birthday party exactly then? And then to follow that up with a stop playing giutuar with a musician, instead of being in DC managing the federal responce to include making sure the military assests were actually on the move?

  32. Tobey Tall says:

any european leader that did this would be thrown out of office ….Bush is a joke , everthing he does is for the ill of mankind

I dont think he has ever done anything good in his life

  33. Samuel Alito says:

What a JOKE! This says nothing except the AP is desperate to smear the President.

The Katrina sham is up – people are tired of the left shamelessly exploiting it. Mark my words, it will only be state Democrats who suffer from this debacle.

  34. Albert says:

The White House is trying to spin this by saying that it shows Bush was engaged during his vacation. I say give them as much rope as they want on that line – because the obvious response is “So this is what you get when Bush is engaged?”

  35. Fatty bin Laden says:

Heh. Who could have anticipated that a neocon president would be so clueless and out of touch?

    What a miserable failure.

  36. David R. Mark says:

For more on this story, check out JABBS, which reminds readers of a (perhaps) truthful Bush statement from last fall about Katrina, which takes on new meaning now.

  37. Cyra Brown says:

Silly Trolls, by their fierce defense of Bush, they only highlight how weak and worthless he is. Otherwise, why would they feel so compelled to come to his rescue ?
