“All three components of the ‘axis of evil” — Iraq, Iran, North Korea — [are] more dangerous than they were when that phrase was coined in 2002.” We’re seeing a patternforming here.
Bah. In the PNAC document rebuilding americas defences all those countries were identified as “threats” back in 2000. 9/11 didn’t give birth the the idea.
Iraq regime change was in Richard Perle’s mind back in 1996 if not earlier. The plan was to destabilize the region so that further regime changes could be arranged. In 1998 Clinton received a letter from PNAC: http://www.newamericancentury.org/iraqclintonletter.htm
If you read this, you might get the impression that they thought Saddam had WMDs or was a threat (well he was for the oil supplies) but don’t be fooled. They all knew it. Saddam was disarmed.
It simply was the easiest way to sell the war to the public. They could wolf and the public shouted “bomb them! invade them!”. And the PNAC people smiled.
Q:
If there are axiis, is not an apex around somewhere? Something which ties it all together?
A:
And the common denominator is: “The leader of the Fear World”
Also, George Will doesn’t believe the government should be solving problems. This is best left up to private enterprise, and individual responsibility. According to Will, when the government tries to solve problems, things get worse.
George Will, like most conservative journalists, has always made exuses for junior’s policies and critized those who called them into question.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but when GWB gets done spreading peace and freedom over there, Will might be back to singing a different tune again. Especially when the Iraqis and Iranians vote in democracies to replace the theocracies, and the starving peasants in North Korea overthrow their dictator—-all of which will be any day now.
I mean, that is what is happening according to conservative journalists like Will and the rightwing talk show hosts of Hannity, Limbaugh, and O’Lielly up until just a few months ago, anyway.
When late in the spring of 1940 people of southeastern England flocked across the Channel in their pleasure craft and fishing boats to evacuate soldiers trapped on Dunkirk beaches, euphoria swept Britain. So Prime Minister Winston Churchill sternly told the nation: “We must be very careful not to assign to this deliverance the attributes of a victory. Wars are not won by evacuations.”
Today, with all three components of the “axis of evil” — Iraq, Iran, North Korea — more dangerous than they were when that phrase was coined in 2002, the country would welcome, and Iraq’s political class needs to hear, as a glimpse into the abyss, presidential words as realistic as those Britain heard on June 4, 1940.

George doesn’t have speech writers of the caliber of Churchill, cause we ALL know he would never come up with the words on his own.
He’s a lunatic! Will the democrats distance themselves from him or risk being marginalized by their association with him?
Wait, George Will? Not Michael Moore?

March 2nd, 2006 at 2:09 pmBut hey, at least according to his last column, George Will is happy about the state of things!
Happier than liberals, who apparently have this doom and gloom idea that Bush is harming our national security.

March 2nd, 2006 at 2:11 pmGeorge Will is clearly a pinko commie who hates America and wants our troops to die.
