We’re waiting for our call.

By Faiz Shakir on Mar 2nd, 2006 at 5:27 pm

We’re waiting for our call.

“Blogs sometimes include information — accurate and otherwise — about the U.S. military’s global war on terror. U.S. Central Command officials here took notice and created a team to engage these writers and their electronic information forums.”

    I wouldn’t hold your breath or anything…
    I’m just saying…
    The bubble-boy administration isn’t likely
to be interested in anything but repeated
    propaganda.

  5. the fly-man says:

Makes ya proud doesn’t it to be helping train the troops. Too bad they can’t drink or smoke weed while they blog.

  6. Hardy Haberman says:

That Centcom site has some really great pictures of press briefings. Don Rumsfield making hand gestures that just cry out for “Unauthorized Captions”.

I doubt that they would ever suspect their photos could be used for a good laugh.

  7. Ugh says:

Propaganda comes to blogs. Make sure you get some cash.

  8. the fly-man says:

Have they ever precipitated a conversation that created a situation that might possibly have needed a FISA warrant?

  9. S.D. says:

Isn’t proproganda against US citizens illegal??

  10. S.D. says:

    By the US that is…

  11. wisedup says:

I can hear it now, ‘bloggs are supporting terrrrusts’…shut them all down, except the rightwing ones, that is.

  12. Spudge_Boy says:

I would be careful Judd. The word engage in military terminology means “attack.”

As in “We engaged the enemy in the desert.”

  13. beep52 says:

Spudge Boy: Funny you should mention that… “Engage” is actually the Centcom blog team’s motto.

  14. beep52 says:

Really! I’m not making that up!

  15. AkaDad says:

You know the reason President Bush was in India?

    He was visiting American jobs…

  16. beavercleaver says:

    >>>…and there was a loud outcry that befell the land: “We demand more, yes, more propaganda, right-wing spin, lying and decpetion from our officials.”
    And it came to be!
Add another one to the list of “liberal media.”
    Hold on…holdon-it’s the phone…
“Oh, hi Oxycotin Rush! It’s okay?
Did you check with the Felafall? COOL!”
Relax…it’s okay gang, Centcom’s on our side!

Does anyone else feel like it

  18. A FRIEND says:

    YOU ARE MISINFORMED, INTERNET BUDDY.

WHY DON’T YOU “SURF” ON OVER CENTCOM’S “BLOG” TO LEARN THE UNVARNISHED TRUTH.

    END OF TRANSMISSION.

  22. ommzms says:

I remember when Orwellian was a rarely used adjective reserved for judicious hyperbole. Now Orwell’s dystopian novel seems less prescient and more like a neocon training manual.

This comaraderie from CENTCOM is like getting a call from the IRS to see if you need any help doing your taxes. Sounds like the definition of intimidation.

  23. Clif says:

Actually it smacks of Rummy, but he puts it out through the uniformed military, sort of like his disinformation regime in Iraq.

  24. john says:

    this is my favorite quote:

The public wants to hear these good stories,” he said, adding that the news stories the military generates are “very factual.”

“very factual” – does that mean three or four nuggets of truthiness per story?

  25. G.W. Bush says:

All your base are belong to us.

5/ Although no water enteres lungs they get to grips with the fact they think their drowning
    6/ when recipient passes unconcious

  31. thot's n TN says:

Now (online readers) have the opportunity to read positive stories. At least the public can go there and see the whole story. The public wants to hear these good stories,” he said, adding that the news stories the military generates are “very factual.

Must go to Centcom… Compelled to go….. Must kill the queen…

  34. Ron says:

Yes they are monitoring the blogoshpere. I posted a link here a few weeks ago on the fuel capacities of US Navy ships . It is now a dead link. I am surprised at how much information there is about the Pentagon on the internet. Nothing is secret anymore.

The US lost the war in Iraq the day they invaded.

  35. THOT'S N TN says:

Lots of links that will be posted will end up with dead ends. Its about CensorShip ,they should’ve called it Censorship.ORG.. I totally and wholeheartly hate this Neo Cons profiteering Adminstration. The only thing is some of us have a trillion ways to get the Real Info.

  36. Gregor Samsa says:

“Now (online readers) have the opportunity to read positive stories. (…) The public wants to hear these good stories,” he said, adding that the news stories the military generates are “very factual.”

More bogus “positive stories” like the supposed “good news” out of Iraq.

In the old days, these were simply called “propaganda”, and it’s the kind of stories the blind followers crave.

  37. Prissy says:

I don’t think their interest is in sites which they cannot “correct”…

  38. SPC C. Flowers says:

    Hi:

If you do visit our webpage (http://www.centcom.mil), I hope it proves to be informative. We’ve been adding content over the past few months, like audio and video, in an effort to make it as comprehensive as possible.

There were some posts above regarding dead links. Were those stories on the CENTCOM website, or elsewhere? We do try to keep content archived on our site, although some sections (like the Coalition country pages) are naturally changed over time to reflect current news from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
