Freedom is on the march.

By Judd Legum on Mar 4th, 2006 at 11:59 pm

Freedom is on the march.

“Pakistan’s most famous-ever cricketer, former captain-turned-politician Imran Khan, spent Saturday confined to his home where authorities detained him to thwart his plan to lead a march to protest against Bush’s visit.”

My God – they are restraining protesters in the free Republic of Pakistan! What next?

  2. WaltTheMan says:

    Oh yes, Allah Akbar.

  3. Martin Ostrye says:

This is slightly off-topic, but there is an interesting story surfacing involving the CIA.

First, Sunday’s WaPo has a story about the CIA, FBI and NSA going after personnel who talk to the media. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/04/AR2006030400867_pf.html

Secondly, perhaps the bigger issue should be forget the media, who has the Number 3 man at the CIA been talking to? Then follow that up with: has the CIA been penetrated by foreign intelligence services? Kyle Foggo was promoted to his #3 position by Porter Goss. Foggo was also involved with Brent Wilkes who was involved in the Duke Cunningham bribery scandal. Is there a link between, Cunningham, DeLay, Abramoff and Foggo/Goss? DeLay was making deals with Russian businessmen. Abramoff was making deals across the international scene. Has the pattern of greed and recklessness (as well as arrogance) made these guys targets for foreign intelligence services, knowingly or unknowingly? Wilkes/Wade were selling intelligence equipment and technology. Were any of these guys, knowingly or unknowingly, on the payroll of a foreign intelligence service? Newsweek has the initial story about Foggo/Cunningham. This could all get a lot more interesting.

    #3 – Martin Ostrye,
For some reason, I am not able to drill down to that link. Did you get it right?

I state again – this link does not work:

Is there anything of interest behind it. Is it infected with a virus? I get my AV and anti-spyware software from Europe, no backdoors for the Feds.

  8. WaltTheMan says:

And someone fixed the miss direction in #3.

  9. Abby says:

#2 Not: God Greatest (Allah Akbar). Rather, God’s the Greatest (Allah’u Akbar) or God is the Greatest (Allah-u-Akbar).

No offence. Just to clarify an expression we will all need to learn if Muslims wake up to the fact that this “war” of ours is against Islam and the Muslims decide to do something about it.

  10. Clif says:

Walt with the CIA link and the link to Katherine Harris, the cunningham probe may in the end be bigger than Abrarmoff. Harris has links to Jeb, and the mess in Fla. in 2000, wonder if she’s cornered will she make a deal like Jack or Duke?

All the world’s a stage for George Bush. It’s amazing how one man can be so protected. He deserves an Oscar for being the most retarded individual ever filmed.

  12. WaltTheMan says:

    #10 – Abby,
I’ll check with my Lebanese friend who speaks and can read (he states that reading is actually easier as the written language is more stable than the spoken one) about five or six dialects of oral Arabic, but the abbreviated version (Allah Akbar) is used in chants to say “God is great”.

  13. G.W. Bush says:

George W. Bush praised General Pervez Musharaff, the military dictator as a man who would be a good example for the Arab world….

OK, so Pakistanis’ aren’t Arabs and military dictators aren’t friends of democracy, but it was a great thought on W’s part anyway.

    Heckuva job Chimpy.

  14. Swopa says:

Dubya’s hypocrisy led to an amusingly (and I presume consciously) ironic subhead on the WaPo website:

Bush lauds Musharraf’s efforts to hunt down terrorists and his commitment to democracy. Protesters beaten, arrested before Bush’s visit.

I’ve got a screen capture here.

  15. Deborah Lloyd says:

    Regarding Pakistan,

I thought I would share my personal experience of how I witnessed the FBI force my Pakistani neighbor to get involved with baiting terrorists to Atlanta, Georgia which subsequently led to my neighbors “decision” to move back to Pakistan, after living in the U.S. for over ten years. As a result of my knowledge of this activity, I was illegally and forcibly hospitalized and detained in Sandy Springs, Georgia. If there are any human rights attorneys out there, please help.

    #23 – Martin Ostrye,
I usually check my links after I post. They are sometimes mutilated, in which case I repost.

Blogs were also blocked to prevent Pakistani bloggers from blogging on the Bush visit. See here.

  26. Mary says:

BTW did anyone see the video of bush getting beaned by the criket ball.Too bad it was such a gentle lob, they can whip those babies at 150 mph.

  27. Marie says:

Yeah, Mary, too bad it was soft-balled for the camera.

  28. COF says:

I clipped and compiled a video the day before of Indian news talking about a “leftist” group that was going to protest Bush the next day; since they didn’t identify I didn’t know who he was but admired him for speaking out so eloquently. I realized upon reading this that the video is of Imran Khan, he’s speaking of the sham of Musharref’s “democracy”. From CanOFun
