If we can somehow win this War on Gay People, then the War on Womens Rights and the War on Drugs should be easily defeated too.
And then we will finally be on a level playing field with the Republicans. Religion will be out of the picture, and we can discuss how best to compete in the global system effectively.
it seems the last movie the rightwingnuts liked was ‘the 15 commandments….opps….10 commandments’. I wonder what thoes other 5 were..hmmm…’thy shall not bow down before the fox or the bush?’
I prefer the more “upbeat” fare — you know, films about civilian casualties, torture, corrupt crony politics, secret prisons and great American cities left to rot in the river mud.
C’mon, Hollywood! How about a “feel-good” film about a stolen election? You can replace the Academy with Diebold machines and hack your way to an Oscar sweep!
Of course, Hollywood’s “darker themes” are much, much likely to cause moral outrage from FauxNews than any of the ugly aspects of Pres Bush’s foreign and domestic policy: Illegal invasions & wiretaps, prisoner torture, fearmongering, budget cuts to social programs, disregard for the needy (in NO and elsewhere), and tax cuts for the wealthy -to name a few.
I think it’s widely accepted that the Hollywood bubble is totally out of touch with the rest of the country.
Whether you think it’s true or not, trashing America as bloodthirsty for oil is pretty dark. Two homosexual lovers cheating on their wives and families is dark. Capote – DARK. Crash, while excellent and totally worthy of best pic, was dark.
But there was a shred of hope in Crash that I didn’t see in the other films and that’s why it won. Even Hollywood still wants a happy ending.
They liked “The Passion of the Christ”, too. Strangely enough, I don’t think I’ve been hearing a lot of complaining about violence in movies since that one came out. Maybe it’s just a coincidence (or lack of one).
How about a movie in which a reporter, working in a Fox-like environment, exposes hypocrisy within his workplace and pisses off his bosses who try to kill him?
Bob and Harvey Weinstein would love it.
Rupert Murdoch would try to ban it.
And get Denzel Washington to play the reporter and you’re talking Oscar! Actually, I think I’d like to see him in a role like that. He could do it justice.
Given the large number of people who live in Los Angeles, and the large population in other major cities, that typically favor liberal progressive candidates, I wonder who is out of touch here.
Also Farce what about the bubble Bush has placed himself in. when the shit hits the fans it turns out that he oftens has no idea the shit was there in the first place. For example the Katrina Levees, oh wait he did know about that one, or the Dubai ports deal?
That’s pretty misleading. They didn’t say that homosexuality was a dark theme, they said that Hollywood went with some darker themes this year – which is a fact, because they did. Terrorism. Assassinations. Suicide. Racism. Oh well, you will twist things around to get your kick. Have fun!
“They didn’t say that homosexuality was a dark theme, they said that Hollywood went with some darker themes this year – which is a fact, because they did. Terrorism. Assassinations. Suicide. Racism. Oh well, you will twist things around to get your kick. Have fun! Comment by Seixon”
Oh sweetie, you write the silliest partisan things. When they list homosexuality as an ‘example’ of the dark topics, of course that’s what they mean – and even more importantly what everyone hears. If they hadn’t meant that homosexuality was dark, they wouldn’t have included it in the sentence pumpkin.
I chalk it up to partisan brain, which prevents people from processing facts and information. I forgive you for it sweetie. At least you weren’t trying to attack a minority, unlike what seems like most of your partisan friends. Good for you on that, even if you can’t recognize what racist, homophobic and partisan folks you’re a part of. You keep trying to do the right thing, and open up your mind a bit more. You might find it surprising to see the world without a partisan brian. Here’s the excerpt from the recent study that explains why you have trouble reading a simple sentence and process basic grammar:
The investigators hypothesize that emotionally biased reasoning leads to the “stamping in” or reinforcement of a defensive belief, associating the participant’s “revisionist” account of the data with positive emotion or relief and elimination of distress. “The result is that partisan beliefs are calcified, and the person can learn very little from new data,” Westen says.
Let’s not forget we can see any movie we chose and we can get up and leave if we don’t like it. (Sometimes we even get our money back.) We also chose our leadership (as a group) and we have to live with that choice and can’t leave the theatre. (We never get our money back.)
In Hollywood, investors pay to produce movies
In Washington, we all pay taxes to produce our reality
In Hollywood, when people die in movies, it’s called “actingâ€
In Iraq when people die, it’s called “policyâ€
In Hollywood when people make up stories, it’s called a “scriptâ€.
In Washington, it’s called a “Press Conferenceâ€
In the movies things are exaggerated for effect. That’s called “theatricsâ€
In Washington exaggerations are called “Intelligenceâ€
I can always get up and leave a movie I don’t like, but what can I do when my country has become like a bad movie? Movies only last about two hours … how much longer is this reality going to last?
These people must have failed all their lit classes. Those are not the “themes” of the movies, and all literate people know it. The theme of everything on FAUXNEWZ, however, is lies, distortion and hatespeech, and the subtext is always fascism.
What part of lumping “homosexuality” in with “darker themes this year”, and somehow magically not meaning that homosexuality is dark (and everything thus association with the connotation of dark, and dark implying bad, evil and unwanted) do you not understand?
Fox News knows perfectly well what they are doing when they say such things. It’s dark to pretend ignorance of this.
- Aaaaand the Razzie to the worst President in the world this year goes toooooo…. G.W. Bush! Mr. Bush? Mr. Bush? Where you are to get your prize? Oh, he hasn’t attended. He is cutting bush in Bush’ Pig Farm. Well, next year.
That’s pretty funny. Hmm. Let’s see… what movies came out of Twentieth Century FOX and FOX Searchlight recently: Mr & Mrs. Smith–TWO assassins in that one. Sideways, a charming tale of a quasi-functional alcoholic and his philandering idiot friend. A friend that fucks a fat girl in the ass, mind you. Little touch o’ sodomy there. And let’s not forget Kinsey–right up the right’s alley.
The hypocrisy game, kids! Play with your friends. Not the gay ones though–take them to church.
Pay attention to these darker themes coming from hollywood! but IGNORE the dark themes coming from the totally, morally-corrupt white house.
March 6th, 2006 at 5:30 pmIts Paul Revere!
“The gays are coming! The gays are coming! The gays are coming!”
March 6th, 2006 at 5:40 pmCant you just see all the rightwingers getting their antiGay duct tape sealing up their basements?
March 6th, 2006 at 5:41 pmWell, in florida they could be shot. “Well officer, he kinda pointed his pecker at me. I felt threatened.”
March 6th, 2006 at 5:42 pmThe theme of Brokeback Mountain was not Homosexuality, it was the sad story of what society does to homosexuals. That is dark.
It is also about love, and there is little dark about that.
March 6th, 2006 at 5:44 pmAnd I thought they were referring to “Brokeback Bill O’Reily”. Just goes to show ya that it’s all fun and games till someone loses an eye!
March 6th, 2006 at 5:50 pmIf we can somehow win this War on Gay People, then the War on Womens Rights and the War on Drugs should be easily defeated too.

That is a day I look forward to.

March 6th, 2006 at 6:19 pmSo the west is where the homosexuals went to avoid discrimination. Maybe DUMYA went there too.
March 6th, 2006 at 6:41 pmMaybe Bush left the TEXAS air guard because he was discoverd?

March 7th, 2006 at 5:40 am#5 nailed it. Leave it to the 25-watt bulbs at FAUX to completely miss the point.
