– Abramoff attorney Abbe Lowell, threatening to go public with other corruption investigations at Abramoff’s March 29 sentencing hearing. “We will provide the public with evidence of what is going on out there,” Lowell said.
This should certainly have some people in DC quaking, especially if they’re up for re-election in Novemember. I hope Cummingham’s 8 years sentence scares the beejeezes out of most of Capitol Hill. Couldn’t happen to a nicer group of people.
They might be able to get a reduced sentence on the grounds that “everybody is doing this, we thought it was normal.” or that it is so endemic that they were presented with “menu” by everyone…
I don’t care if all Democrats and half of the republicans are implicated in this scandal… I want the corrupt politicians out of the way.
Of course the supreme court are likely to ignore it as it’s just “free speech”…
And tomorrow this fool will have memory loss like Scooter, right.? Where are these people.? Are they living regular lives on our dollar and awaiting trial.? When or if is Fitzgerald going to get the rest of the bad guys. GEEEEEEEEEs I am so sick of this corrupt bunch still running around flapping their jaw’s. Why aren’t they cooling their heels in jail like the mob does. Impeach, Indict, jail and auction off all their assets……Blessings
It would help his plea agreement to have information which Abramoff has provided to the defense. I assume that all of the names which are threatened to be read have already been provided to the Justice Department. Lowell would prefer to wait until further cooperation with investigators is completed. This way, Lowell makes it look as though Abramoff has been a key witness and gives Abramoff a chance at a much shorter sentence.
From the article: A federal judge on Monday refused to delay sentencing 90 days for disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff despite statements from government lawyers that sending Abramoff to prison could jeopardize his cooperation in ongoing criminal probes.
So, this is just a way around that dilemma. Produce all of the names, info, etc. so that Abramoff’s defense maximizes the possibility of a reduced sentence.
Abramoff’s plea agreement is conditional provided he fully cooperate with investigators. Providing full disclosure of what he knows is the only way he’ll get a reduced sentence. He’s already been flipped for quite some time. It’s just a question of how much becomes public. With Alice Fisher’s dubious history, I’d prefer Lowell discloses everything publically so that there’s no repeat of an investigator’s demotion ala Frederick Black.
Just a couple of good pictures of Jack and the Preznit is all we ask for!
I mean really, who the f*** are these idiots who think they can seperate the biggest republican congressional lobbiest from a republican white house? No matter how hard you try it is not possible to seperate sh** from stink, fellas.
SOMEHOW, THE VERBAL BOMBAST OF AN ATTOURNY FOR A CROOKED REPUBLICAN LOBBYIST seems so little a thing to note, when we have right now, as I write this…
CNN’sWolf Blitzer is broadcasting live from Dubai what amounts to a Public Relations defense for this ‘contract’ with Dubai Ports World; broadcasting this defense on behalf of the parties to that ‘contract’, the UAE and the Bush Administration.
This is a very Good Time Right Now.
EVIL is on the defensive from the American People (live from Dubai, on CNN, right now!)
Right now, WHO CARES ABOUT THE VERBAL BOMBAST OF AN ATTOURNY FOR A CROOKED REPUBLICAN LOBBYIST.

You are so right. Throw the bums in jail and throw away the keys! I get so sick of this corruption, regardless who’s doing it. I’m not a Repub. or Democrat, but Independent, but I am so sick of Republicans, I may vote for the first Democrat who wants to run against either of my 2 State Senators, who are republican, and for the most part, fairly nice ones. But they have voted party line on some key issues, which didn’t make me very happy. Snowe is one of the members voting tomorrow on whether there should be an special investigation into the illegal wiretapping. Should be interesting to see if there’s any pressure put on her from people who don’t want the investigation.
Sorry for getting off the topic.
Abramoff will benefit from a shorter prison stay, and probably figures that in the shitstorm following his “naming names” he’ll be able to disappear quietly.
Nancy, do you live in New Hampshire.? Snow does have some good points for a conservative. Not many of them around these day’s. Most are neo-cons. Even some of our Dem’s have sold us out. They will not get my vote if they voted with the right….Terrible mess we are in these day’s…..Blessings
Sharon, nope I’m from Maine. It’s Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, both senators and both republicans, which I can forgive and many of us Mainers do, but they both voted for Alito and to drill in the Artic Refuge, and that made me mad. Both are very moderate Republicans.
I’m impressed Collins is standing up to the port issue, and she’s not even up for re-election until ‘08. Thers talk Snowe may not run for re-election in Nov, but retire. I’m torn, because you’re right, some dems have jumped ship and sided with the opposition. Personally, we just need to clean house (pardon the pun) and start over!
Wake up! This administration has been about ONE THING and one thing only. The religious right agenda, the wars-for-oil, the subversion of the media, etc …all smokescreens. This administration only took power to do one thing: TO TRANSFER THE PUBLIC WEALTH OF THE RICHEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD INTO PRIVATE HANDS.
This admin has been straight-arrow loot-and-pillage on an epic scale. If Guiness had a world record book of crime, this is it, folks, the crime of the millenia. The wealth of the wealthiest country has already been looted, robbed and diverted from public coffers and banked in the accounts of private contractors, armament industries, communication and energy companies, favorite drug companies (what do you think the Medicare change was about?) and private buddy corporations during the last 5 years.
What’s truly horrifying is is wasn’t just the surplus the admin inherited or revenue from the last 5 years. This deficit will have our kids and grandkids enslaved and endebted throughout their lifetimes. The services designed for their benefit have been and will be cut to fix this ‘money problem.’ That’s a killer coup, eh? Not just to steal the money, but to steal it in such a way that an entire nation will work 2-1/2 lifetimes, with far fewer safety nets, to try and replace it. And then to set up a bunch of new tax cuts for the wealthiest (ie: the beneficiaries of all our public money) that insures they and theirs will never have to be responsible for paying back any of it!
Period. That’s what all about, the erupting scandals, Bush never vetoeing a bill, that’s why we went to war. It’s all about the money.
We’ve all been hosed, by leaders who haven’t hesistated to leave 3 generation of American tax payers naked and bleeding on the ground, and 1000s of people dead and bleeding in the sands of the Middle East. (1000s so far. Just watch…this has been too much fun for them, like taking candy from a baby, can’t turn the war milk cow into hamburger yet.)
It’s too late. You all are idiots, we’re all screwed and they’re rich beyond a glutton’s wettest dream. They stole America’s money. We let them. It’s gone.
Better wake up before the administration finally figures out how to transfer Social Security — the last, vast, untapped oil field of federal and public monies — into the pockets of the brokerage house.
Dont you all see what is happening here with Abramoff?
Abramoff is cooperating with the federal prosecutors office in an effort to get his sentenced reduced somewhat. He is naming names, giving dates, full accounts. Many criminal filings can come out of his cooperation.
But wait a minute – just a minute here a federal judge says. He, the judge, wants to effectly shut the process down by throwing Abramoff in prison RIGHT NOW.
This would mean that any further sentence reduction is not possible because sentencing has taken place so Abramoff is effectly silenced – BY A FEDERAL JUDGE.
Frist!
I mean, indict Frist too!
March 6th, 2006 at 4:12 pmSo, then they are using the Michael Brown approach. Either protect me or I blow the whole thing open.
March 6th, 2006 at 4:15 pmIt almost seems too easy. Is this, maybe, just a blackmail attempt? I’m trying to figure out how it would benefit Abramoff to spill everything.
