Why do so many people think that the disaster monkey can improve something? Haven’t the last 5 years taught them anything?

Did they ask if the Preznit would fuck it up and raise all the costs at the same time?

  9. Craig says:

Why is this news?? Dont we all know by now that if it doesn’t involve some payback to a major campaign contributor Bush doesn’t give a rodents rectum about it? And he certainly doesn’t care if it involves “the little people” having to ante up more of their dwindling savings just to survive. Damn. Where is Monica and her blue dress when a “president” really needs them?

Actually, he’s broken LOTS of laws. And we are supposed to trust him? Does anybody but the wingnuts trust him anymore?
I trust him to act against the democratic interests of this country at every opportunity. I trust him to sell our interests out to anybody for the biggest buck he can get. I trust him to do whatever he can to undermine the traditions and family values of our country while he lies to the public at every opportunity. Black is White, up is down, war is peace, good is bad, and he cares about us.

  15. Marie says:

Nothing, nothing, nothing has or will improve under Bush – at least not in America.
Health care is only one issue, there are dozens of other issues that are far worse today than they were in 2000. He will claim that 9/11 changed everything — and it did — he was able to wreak havoc and destruction quickly and with greater scope.
Wait – I take it back – one thing has improved under Bush — the rich got richer.

It is unfortunate that the myth of the “big bad socalized medicine” boogieman has so effectively permiated American society. As the only industrialized conutry in the world without some form of socialized medicine, we are not only less healthy, but poorer for it.

Insurance companies and big pharma has successfully made any talk of a government health system taboo. What progressives must do is reframe the issue. Get corporations onboard because their health care costs are hurting their profits. Get consumer groups to look at the successful government health care for veterans and imagine that system could work for them.

    Just a thought.

Care to make any guesses as to whom the benefits (read cash, tons of it) of the Medicare drug benefit program go? Anyone? Bueller?

We know we can rule out the seniors and the disabled. The old saying goes ‘follow the money’!

  22. Solitaire says:

#17 “Get corporations onboard because their health care costs are hurting their profits.”

too late hon. They are just dropping the health care benefits as fast as they can… and they can move with considerable alacrity by outsourcing the jobs, replacing permanent positions with contractors, and “restructuring” the health plans to look good but carry very little coverage. Corporations do not have the public’s interest at heart. All they have to do is drop a few more thousand bucks in the ol PAC, and find out which Congress member is currently taking “donations” to submit legislation to bail the corp out of any troubles. Medical insurance for employees will soon be thing of the past, and the right wing LOVES that. Medical insurance is too much like a social program. Sick people should be left at the side of the road… social darwinism.

Major improvements will come to everyone’s life and major issues like this will be seriously be debated once this fascist regime has left office on 1/20/2009.

The shrub is in Texas today, supposedly forgot to get himself an absentee ballot.

I am just wondering if he will drop by DeLays district about this time of the evening in an effort to give him a little boost.

I would not put it past him one bit. I would not doubt that he has some even scheduled in DeLays district right now.

  25. Jack says:

Did you catch 60 Minutes this past week? They had a segment on about the uninsured having to pay 4 to 5 times more, even 10 times more than the insured. We are talking about hardworking people, that maybe lost their job and had pre-existing situations (i.e., heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer). One couple got a bill for $247K, but if they would have had insurance it would have been $50k. 2 stents for a heart blockage; stents $19,741 without, $4600 with.

The hospital spokesperson played games with words, by saying, “everyone is charged the same”, but not “everyone pays the same”. What a bunch of BS. She should be ashamed of herself, and the American Medical Association!

Bush is always saying medical care isn’t a market and people don’t shop around. Well you couldn’t shop around if you wanted (yeh, shop around to have someone do by-pass operation on your heart as the pain in your chest is crushing you — by the way doctor are those stents… ZZZzzzzzz; or brain surgery — is that the special price doctor or do I have to use a coupon. Can you imagine if the medical field becomes like Wall Street, with the same ethics and morals! Oh wait…Hhhhhhmmm). The reason you can’t shop around is that the hospitals keep “Master Charge” lists of prices and that is private.

Money magazine had an excellent issue a couple of years ago about a day in the life of a doctor, and they examined the entire healthcare field. The billing is really arbitary, and yes, if you don’t have insurance you are going to pay a LOT more than those with any kind of insurance. Your drug and healthcare claims at insurance companies are being approved or denied by high school graduates, with no medical training what so ever.

And just wait until your parents are seniors, and their employer drops healthcare coverage without notification and you have to go shopping for supplemental insurance.

I have to laugh when you hear celebrities or commercials say go get this test and ask your doctor. Yeh, great, but will a doctor see you if you don’t have insurance, and if you don’t will they charge you 4, 5, 10x more. And then if they find something, well, will you be able to afford it, especially since the medical profession has decided to rob the uninsured.

60 Minutes also did a segment not too long ago on Medical tourism. People who can’t afford medical treatment in the US go to Taiwan or India for things like hip replacement or bypass. They have private rooms, registered nurses (not just CNA), and the doctors are usually American trained.
