and “transfer prisoners to other jails in Iraq,” CNN reports. President Bush pledged to do this two years ago, predicting it would be “a fitting symbol of Iraq’s new beginning.” Fitting symbol, “incubator for terrorists,” who’s really keeping track?
So there were no terrorists before Abu Ghraib. I guess there were no terrorists before Bush became president just as all the nation and world’s problems began on January 20, 2001.
Ironic justifing a war in one way because Saddam mistreated prisoner is Abu Ghraib… Ironic and inhuman on both sides
I still think many US soldiers should be brought to justice thats what democracies in the world want to see
Dont blame the soldiers… they didnt order themselves their… They would have gladly went to Saudi Arabia and kicked ass there instead if they were so ordered. Did some of them get enjoyment out of the abuse? Sure. Many cops do to because power is intoxicating. But soldiers do as they are told. If they were told NOT to do that they wouldn’t have. They were told to DO it. So they did. And some of them liked it. Justice for this can only be had by pointing the blame where it belongs…the White House.
This is like when a product needs new sales but the company selling it doesn’t want to change…they simply slap “new and improved” on the front and people are more likely to buy it.
The issue isn’t Abu-Graib. The issue is the government endorses arresting people without cause, stripping them of any rights or representation, holding them for an unlimites amount of time and torturing them. That isn’t stopping just because Abu-Graib is closing.
Everything would have been just fine, had the powers that be made good on their plan to rename Abu Ghraib to “Camp Redemption.” Nothing wrong there that a little re-branding couldn’t have solved.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. State Department is winding down its $20 billion reconstruction program in Iraq and the only new rebuilding money in its latest budget request is for prisons, officials said on Tuesday.
I’m surprised the prison hasn’t burned down miraculously. Right about the time the photos were released they were going to quickly raize it but that got waived off. I’m sure the administration is more than anxious to call that one a new parking lot. Kinda reminds me of Waco.
21# dont think the past will ever be the past …its past that with the abu ghraib photos of torture around. The damage has been done forever it will be documented just like the holocaust
and the new film that won best pictures in Germany called road to guantanamo by Micheal Winterbottom viewed on terrestrial TV across the Uk
so thats what about lie# 1003?
March 9th, 2006 at 1:01 pmI lost count on the 2000 Campaign Trail..

March 9th, 2006 at 1:04 pmFed up toturing them send them off to a interior ministry jail, never to be heard of again possibly…thats one way to keep them quite i spose
This should be done in time for the new released photos too
March 9th, 2006 at 1:05 pmWell, it’s very simbolic: Solve problems? No, simply reshuffle and hide them.
March 9th, 2006 at 1:06 pmSo there were no terrorists before Abu Ghraib. I guess there were no terrorists before Bush became president just as all the nation and world’s problems began on January 20, 2001.

He’s checking his Limbaugh letter and trying to call Sean before giving your answer. Give him time.

March 9th, 2006 at 1:58 pmI heard they were going to be transfered to a new facility called “Camp Crawford.” Spa living, gourmet food and plenty of brush to clear.
March 9th, 2006 at 2:04 pmOh, so the CIA finished up torturing everybody?
March 9th, 2006 at 2:19 pmtime to hand Iraq back too
March 9th, 2006 at 2:26 pmThis is a PR stunt -closing Abu Ghraib still does not address the widespread abuse of prisoners in Iraq, and in Guantanamo by their American captors.
March 9th, 2006 at 3:10 pm“This is the one bit of construction we will be doing — $100 million for additional bed capacity for the Iraqi legal system,” he said.
