ThinkProgress’ report on Pat Roberts. Big surprise — he doesn’t like it.

Oh, I get it. TP is making accusations when they list Sen Roberts’ actual words and actions. All cleared up, that is.

Posted to the WP blog comments:

I’m sorry, but if one is going to take a sarcastic approach toward a published study based on referenced sources, aren’t you under some minor obligation to either verify or disprove its claims? The ratio of scorn to new information in this blog entry is pretty much infinite, as the latter is indistinguishable from zero.

For instance, with regard to Shelby, are you arguing that he didn’t leak info, that it wasn’t illegal to do so, that it wasn’t the committee;s job to investigate, or did you really not have a point?

  3. Gerald Gibson says:

To me it sounded like this author was repeating the facts against the senator without admiting he agreed. As cowardly as the MSM is now-a-days it is likely that when they want to get facts out there they blame the facts on the liberals so that if someone wants to fire them all they have to say is I was just reporting what those left wingnuts are saying … I didnt really see him bash anyone… he tried to sound adversarial, but that was probably just his cover… usually when the MSM is actually attacking the left they do not present the lefts points at all..instead they just keep repeating how CRAZY they all are.

  4. Clyde the Ripper says:

“If the role of serious think tanks is to provide thoughtful and informed research and recommendations on important policy issues, what does that make the Center for American Progress?”

    ONE DAMN FINE OUTFIT!

Very perceptive, articulate, informed, and credible.

  5. Zookeeper says:

#3 – Gerald G, you are more of an optimist than I am, I guess. If you are right, that certainly is a cowardly way of operating.

  6. Grand Moff Texan says:

Uh, that was a response? That doesn’t even rate up their with a pissy little tantrum from a third-rate troll. It’s just a summary that expects the reader to go “yeah, that’s ridiculous!”

So sunk in his own little world, pushing his discredited little ideology at the end of his miserable life.

    So sad.
    .

  7. Hardy Haberman says:

Funny, his review just stated the facts detailed on this website. He asks that question at the end:

If the role of serious think tanks is to provide thoughtful and informed research and recommendations on important policy issues, what does that make the Center for American Progress?

The obvious answer is, a voice of truth!

    Keep up the good work.

  8. Gregor Samsa says:

Ron Nessen desperately needs to hire someone to help him put “think” in “think tank”.

    What a sad, pathetic article.

  9. katy says:

No surprise – all the commenters DO like it!
several TP folks posting there also – good job!

  10. Ho Chi Minh says:

from‘The Third Reich in Power’ by Richard J. Evans, p.46:” The passing of legislation giving retroactive legality to the regime’s most blatantly illegal acts”. Does this not sound famiiar? They’re using a page directly out of the Nazis playbook.

  11. Krazny says:

LOL non of the posts in his blog even attempt to defend his statements. I am not sure what he hoped to accomplish. He does not refute any of facts presented by CAP and TP he just rants.

If that is the best the right wing can do we could see a change very soon.

    Comment by Krazny ”

Haven’t you noticed, this is how the majority of the Reichwing operate. Facts are just things that undermine their delusions. MightyTranny is a great example of this. He/She will ignore a topic, a thread, and all facts, and start some idiotic and BORING/YAWN! Zzzzz. rant about Kennedy, Carter, Clinton, Taxes or Private School Vouchers no matter what the subject. It’s always how they avoid living in reality, and distract themselves and others from the real world.

It’s a kind of psychotic defense mechanism they use to retain their cognitive dissonance. A delusional safety net as it were.

  13. Earl says:

I commented before reading the other comments and ended up saying the same thing: What the fuck? I used the phrase “laundry list” and I wasn’t the only one.

  14. Ho Chi Minh says:

Long past time for regime change in Washington

  15. mr ho says:

flip floppers dont like to be exposed as flop flippers with their own reverse flip flop flipping words.

What this says about this think tank is only this.
The Flip FLoppers are hypocrites and well flip flopping is a form of misleading and being misleading is, well it is after all, lying.

    Very Good TP.

Very poor Job of Reverse Spin by Nessen,
IF thats what it was, whatever it was it sucked…

  16. katy says:

#3 gerald gibson – jr? – you should post that same sentiment in the comments to nessen’s rant…call him out…

  17. madrino says:

Political criminals generally don’t like transparency in government. What is happening with all of the secrecy and the interrogation of those that don’t agree with this administration’s policy is practically unfathomable. The US Constitution and Bill of Rights are in a shambles and the people live in where state propaganda is now the norm and Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) is continuously spread across the land to keep power in the hands of a the few rather than the many to whom it belongs. I fear that we are already in a warped form of rotating dictatorship where the people are kept uninformed about our leadership’s shenanigans around the world since WW II.

I have to watch Australian TV, on-line papers from everywhere else but the US and move around the blogshere to get enough information to stay informed. The American media is DOA. Looking at the ownership, is it any wonder?

  18. David says:

    Lamest. Retort. Yet.

But, I’m sure they’re not done yet. Got to give credit to WaPo’s site: they sure know how to piss people off.

  19. wisedup says:

Roberts= obstruction of justice=crook. His think tank is in the restroom.

  20. Zookeeper says:

I just finished reading the comments on Nessen’s post. All calling BS, except one loon.

  21. Ryan Neat says:

Nessen is dutch for “My head is up Rove’s butt”. Why do republicans all so so tangential and idiotic? Their cognitive dissonance is just disturbing.

  22. katy says:

this thread needs some “spice”…from that blog – enjoy:

You liberal bias haters hear can’t read the facts and don’t want them, all you do is call him an idiot but in reality he is right, some Dems are terrorist and we need to root them out. You have no idas or agruments. There is no balance on the comments her because the DNC-paid hacks who run the website make sure it is packed with leftists. We need real American opinion here.

Posted by: Soaring Patriotic Eagle | Mar 10, 2006 6:13:14 PM | Permalink

You liberal American haters, who insulted and threatened the life of the ombudsman when you didn’t agree with her facts (more delusion from libs) are all paid by the DNC to gang up on anyone who has another point of view. You cannot stand the idea of balance, in the media or in the blogs.

    To Soaring Patriotic Eagle:
Perhaps you should go back to school and learn basic English (spelling and grammar) before you make your party look even more idiotic than they already are.

    Mr Nessen,
These are the kinds of people you are supporting:
“some Dems are terrorist and we need to root them out”
Yeah that’s it, we are terororists.

    it’s lonely in here…

well, i know it’s not nice to make fun, but this is just too rich… i wish TP’s regulars trolls were this much fun:

Liberals always mmake the mistake of criticing without any facts, which has been exposed here and by the biased comments in this forum. THey diplay typical arogance of the elite by using personal attacks and are angry and have no ideas.

  24. MediaBloodhound says:

I’ve sifted through innumerable pieces of shoddy journalism over the last eight months. And I’m happy to announce that you, Ron Nessen, have taken the lead for the 2006 “Laziest Piece of Journalism” award.

Trust me, this honor is not bestowed on just anyone. As your master might say, it’s hard work. Hard work, indeed, to be lazy enough to copy and paste someone else’s well-researched, damning facts and refute them with nothing but a sprinkling of inaccurate pejoratives (e.g. “alleges”), sloppy misquotes, an erroneous implication the researchers didn’t put their name to it when their names are right on the site, and a dazzling question marked tacked on at the end to drive your point home.

You, sir, are no ordinary sluggard. You are the, uh, filet mignon of sluggards.

Bravo! You’ve earned the right to slow down. Kick back. In fact, if you ceased writing altogether, your fellow countrymen would applaud your act of courage. Few are able to go out on such a high note.

  25. Spudge_Boy says:

    katy,

All of the ones that say “Mr Nessen,” It didn’t remember my screen name, so I was like F it.

  26. Spudge_Boy says:

There should be a “are mine.” in that last post.

  27. katy says:

well, spudgeboy, this one got “autographed” – do you suppose it “forgot” on purpose? it’s a good one!

WHat do you mean unsigned? Do you do any research before you post?

    Editor: Judd Legum

All it would take is one simple click on the link at the left of the page that states “About Think Progress.” But, I guess it is just too hard for journalists to do research. The “Information Super Highway” really does have information on it. Merge onto the highway and get informed.

22/23- That is some funny sh#t. Soaring Patriotic Eagle? That’s just too easy…

  29. katy says:

    glad you enjoyed that, david

this is off topic, sort of…but another example of how it works…
it’s time to change my “home page” – don’t know why i use it, force of habit, but it’s http://www.netscape.com/ …even though i’m on a mac and use safari to surf…anyway, under the “news” column is this “headline”:
Dems Indicted; Clinton, Kerry Targeted (O MY GAWD, i think)
click on that link and the real story appears:
The head of the Republican Party is expected to charge Friday that the opposition can’t find an election-year slogan, let alone agree on an agenda.
next to a picture of ken mehlman (”close that closet door!” – sam seder)

just felt like getting that out there…it’s everywhere…

  30. Bowdler says:

If only soaring pathetic eagle where a regular here. That whole deal was hillarious.

  31. Lily says:

After reading the comments posted on Nessen’s site, I had to laugh. I came back here to ask if any of you read them. Now I see that not only did you read them, but posted many of them as well. I’m a bit miffed at you though. You never mentioned that the DNC pays you to post. Come on now! I could use a few extra bucks myself, I want in!

  32. katy says:

had to get this one in too:

Oh and by the way folks..take pity on our Soaring Patriotic Eagle.

    He has “the bird-brain flu.

  33. katy says:

oh, and, about that “pay to post” thing – shhhhhhh …
    judd’s got your address – he’ll contact you …

  34. Lily says:

    Katy,
    Thanks. I’ll keep it quiet.

  35. Al says:

If we are all being paid to post here, how do I get on the payroll and when do I get my first check? LOL

  36. Paul in LA says:

It’s just a week or two since Senator Roberts’ LATEST IMPEACHABLE ACT.

He’s a co-conspirator, and his oath of office is LIE.

How many more crimes against the Constitution can Senator Roberts commit before JUSTICE CATCHES UP WITH HIM, as it will with all these bastards.

Senator Roberts, you are an embarrassment to democracy, a coward, and a war criminal. And so you will be remembered. Maybe you can write your memoires from prison, and clear some of these illegal and despicacble actions of yours right up.

  37. JIMBO says:

Ron Nessen may need to take classes in Real Blogging from us, courtesy of Think Progress.

He can’t seem to do research nor can he put aside licking the corporate side of every issue. Ron Nessen is afraid of what has taken place. That is that we bloggers are now the new journalists for the 21st century and that we are picking up what Murrow, Koppel, Cronkite and the rest have left off.

And with Keith Olbermann at the side of bloggers, at least
we have legitimate backup from a real journalist. Mr. Nessen must take his research on bloggers from Chrissy Matthews and Felafel Man.

    Will he ever learn?

  38. Cyra Brown says:

After reading his “story”, all I can say is, “What’s your point? Do you even have one?” Was that intended as a slap at TP? Weak, so incredibly weak. Snicker.
