Today on ABC’s This Week, Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) rejected the administration’s upbeat rhetoric on the Iraq war, claiming that its “mindless banter” hides the real picture of what’s going on in the region. Watch it:

STEPHANOPOULOS: So we have to start thinking about a staged withdrawal?
HAGEL: Well, we always should be thinking about that. But somehow we are going to have to bring into the mix here the obligations, responsibility, not just of the Iraqi people but of the region.
And this mindless kind of banter about, well, if we leave, the whole place falls apart; we can’t leave; we can’t even think about leaving. Wait a minute: You just showed on your screen the cost to the American people of the last three years.
It’s helping bankrupt this country, by the way. We didn’t think about any of that and not just the high cost of lives and the continuation of that but our standing in the world.
And I would define it this way. Are we better off today than we were three years ago? Is the Middle East more stable than it was three years ago? Absolutely not. It’s more unstable.

War mongering, profiteering, corruption in congress, current accounts deficts, pilfering the treasury and feeding the military-industrial complex is "hard work". The republican plague that hangs over America always had the goal of bankrupting the nation by eradicating programs that benefitted the American people and shift the monies over to the corporations and the wealthy. Although the majority of Americans now know that they have been duped and deceived in to a meaningless war and into enormous deficit spending there appears little that can be done to reverse the coming financial disaster.

And here I thought that "liberation" happened when a country got rid of foreign occupiers. I guess "liberation" can occur when a foreign power unilaterally uses force to remove a head of state and instill a government friendly to that foreign power.
Hmmm...I wonder if anybody will "liberate" the United States of America? After all, Bush HAS weapons of mass destruction, HAS invaded a country for no legitimate reason, HAS deposed a head of state, HAS authorized the holding of foreign nationals without trial, HAS authorized the use of torture against foreign nationals, even to the point of torturing people to death.

as we see, under the WTO, it's ok for corporations to sue governments. so much for national sovereignty.
just ask the people of Canada, who were sued under the WTO by a corporation trying to take the water away from the Canadian people.
Or ask Europe how it feels to be sued by Monsanto under the WTO provisions for Europeans refusing to subject themselves to Frankenfood (Genetically Modified "food" Products).
(don't really know what those provisions are, just know that the WTO gives private corporations the power to sue governments).

Democrats will blame Bush for the bloodbath, but rest assured that the hate from the rest of the world towards the United States will last long after Bush is gone, and probably won't make much distinction between the "bad" americans and the "good" americans.
If you want to end the occupation of Iraq quickly, the answer is seperation and transfer of the Shiites, Sunnis, and Kurds, into thier own seperate states.

The corporations, their stockholders, their profits, carry equal weight with the courts as the average Joe, except when Joe is trampled by the corporations, who has the team of attorneys? The corporations are plundering the land and its people; Bush&Co is eliminating individual rights one by one. It looks like a long-term plan, a philosophy, slowly being carried to fruition.
Bush s a criminal with blood on hs hands. American blood, Iraqi blood, Afghani blood. He must be put on trial after he is impeached for war crimes by an international court. This needs to be another Nurenburg trial to show the world what a criminal he is.

1) There are disproportionately a lot of jews (when compared to thier % of the pop.) in the Bush administration (wolfiwitz, fleicher...), and in the top reaches of government in general (and in any other field of endeavor requiring high intelligence, including 27% of US nobel prizes in Science).
2) There were a lot of jews in the New York twin towers (Financial Towers in New York, hmmmm, yes it's safe to say there were indeed a lot of jews).
3) Elite, High Socio-Economic Status americans probably dislike murdering thousands of other High Socio-Economic Status americans of thier own exact ethnic or religious group (they may even likely have personal connections to them).
4) Therefore, The US government did not perpetrate September 11th.
PS: Also if the US planned Sept 11th, it could have murdered people that were a lot less valuble to the country than were actually murdered. Killing 3,000 people at a baseball game in Iowa would have been a lot less damaging than destroying 2 very expensive buildings and many very smart, high earning financial experts. You may make the calculation that all lives are equally valuble, but would murderous machiavellians assume that? Probably not.

(Oct 21, 2005)In two speeches to overflow crowds in New York last weekend, noted theologian David Ray Griffin argued that recently revealed evidence seals the case that the Twin Towers and WTC-7 were destroyed by controlled demolition with explosives.
Despite the many enduring mysteries of the 9/11 attacks, Dr. Griffin concluded, "It is already possible to know, beyond a reasonable doubt, one very important thing: the destruction of the World Trade Center was an inside job, orchestrated by terrorists within our own government."
On Oct. 15th and 16th, New Yorkers filled two venues to hear the prominent theologian and author of two books on 9/11 give a presentation entitled "The Destruction of the Trade Towers: A Christian Theologian Speaks Out."
Dr. Griffin has continued to blaze a trail of courage, leading where most media and elected officials have feared to tread. His presentation went straight to the core of one of the most powerful indictments of the official story -- the collapse of the Twin Towers and WTC-7.
Dr. Griffin included excerpts from the firemen's tapes which were recently released as a result of a prolonged court battle led by victimÃs families represented by attorney Norman Siegel and reported in the NY Times.
He also included statements by many witnesses. These sources gave ample testimony giving evidence of explosions going off in the buildings. A 12 minute film was shown for the audiences, who saw for themselves the undeniable evidence for controlled demolition.
Dr. Griffin listed ten characteristics of the collapses which all indicate that the buildings did not fall due to being struck by planes or the ensuing fires.
He explained the buildings fell suddenly without any indication of collapse.
They fell straight into their own footprint at free-fall speed, meeting virtually no resistance as they fell -- a physical impossibility unless all vertical support was being progressively removed by explosives severing the core columns.
The towers were built to withstand the impact of a Boeing 707 and 160 mile per hour winds, and nothing about the plane crashes or ensuing fires gave any indication of causing the kind of damage that would be necessary to trigger even a partial or progressive collapse, much less the shredding of the buildings into dust and fragments that could drop at free-fall speed.
The massive core columns -- the most significant structural feature of the buildings, whose very existence is denied in the official 9/11 Commission Report -- were severed into uniform 30 foot sections, just right for the 30-foot trucks used to remove them quickly before a real investigation could transpire.
There was a volcanic-like dust cloud from the concrete being pulverized, and no physical mechanism other than explosives can begin to explain how so much of the buildings' concrete was rendered into extremely fine dust.
The debris was ejected horizontally several hundred feet in huge fan shaped plumes stretching in all directions, with telltale "squibs" following the path of the explosives downward.
These are all facts that have been avoided by mainstream and even most of the alternative media. Again, these are characteristics of the kind of controlled demolitions that news people and firefighters were describing on the morning of 9/11.
Those multiple first-person descriptions of controlled demolition were hidden away for almost four years by the City of New York until a lawsuit finally forced the city to release them.
Dr. Griffin's study of these accounts has led him beyond his earlier questioning of the official story of the collapses, to his above-quoted conclusion.
The destruction of the three WTC buildings with explosives by US government terrorists is no longer a hypothesis, but a fact that has been proved beyond a reasonable doubt.
ItÃs important to note that Dr. Griffin is one of many prominent intellectuals--including the likes of Gore Vidal, Howard Zinn, Peter Dale Scott, Richard Falk, Paul Craig Roberts, Morgan Reynolds and Peter Phillips--who have seen through the major discrepancies of the official explanation of 9/11 and have risen to challenge it.
These brave individuals represent the tip of an ever-growing iceberg of discreet 9/11 skeptics. Indeed, 9/11 skepticism appears to be almost universal among intellectuals who have examined the evidence, since there has not yet been a single serious attempt to refute the case developed by Dr. Griffin and such like-minded thinkers as Nafeez Ahmed and Mike Ruppert.
As for the general public, polls have shown that a strong majority of Canadians (63%, Toronto Star, May '04) and half of New Yorkers (Zogby, August 2004) agree that top US leaders conspired to murder nearly 3,000 Americans on 9/11/01.
How, then, can the mainstream US media continue to ignore the story of the century? Perhaps the best answer was given by Dr. Griffin himself in the conclusion of his talk, and is worth quoting at length:
"The evidence for this conclusion (that 9/11 was an inside job) has thus far been largely ignored by the mainstream press, perhaps under the guise of obeying President BushÃs advice not to tolerate "outrageous conspiracy theories." We have seen, however, that it is the Bush administrationÃs conspiracy theory that is the outrageous one, because it is violently contradicted by numerous facts, including some basic laws of physics.
"There is, of course, another reason why the mainstream press has not pointed out these contradictions. As a recent letter to the Los Angeles Times said:
"'The number of contradictions in the official version of... 9/11 is so overwhelming that... it simply cannot be believed. Yet... the official version cannot be abandoned because the implication of rejecting it is far too disturbing: that we are subject to a government conspiracy of "X-Files" proportions and insidiousness.'
"The implications are indeed disturbing. Many people who know or at least suspect the truth about 9/11 probably believe that revealing it would be so disturbing to the American psyche, the American form of government, and global stability that it is better to pretend to believe the official version. I would suggest, however, that any merit this argument may have had earlier has been overcome by more recent events and realizations. Far more devastating to the American psyche, the American form of government, and the world as a whole will be the continued rule of those who brought us 9/11, because the values reflected in that horrendous event have been reflected in the Bush administrationÃs lies to justify the attack on Iraq, its disregard for environmental science and the Bill of Rights, its criminal negligence both before and after Katrina, and now its apparent plan not only to weaponize space but also to authorize the use of nuclear weapons in a preemptive strike.
"In light of this situation and the facts discussed in this lecture---as well as dozens of more problems in the official account of 9/11 discussed elsewhere---I call on the New York Times to take the lead in finally exposing to the American people and the world the truth about 9/11. Taking the lead on such a story will, of course, involve enormous risks. But if there is any news organization with the power, the prestige, and the credibility to break this story, it is the Times. It performed yeoman service in getting the 9/11 oral histories released. But now the welfare of our republic and perhaps even the survival of our civilization depend on getting the truth about 9/11 exposed. I am calling on the Times to rise to the occasion.
Dr. Griffin's speech given at the University of Wisconsin earlier this year, entitled "9/11 and the American Empire," was broadcast twice on C-SPAN.

Wow! I'm staggering under the intellectual capacity required to glean these insights from the tragedies of September 11th! Who would have guessed that the financial experts who led Wall Street to near-financial oblivion are more valuable on a per capita basis (thanks to the smarts necessary to run a country into the ground financially *plus* increased spending power!) than those who witness a baseball game in the midwest (presumedly a Little League game, or perhaps one at an educational institution).
Keeping aside, for the moment, the ignorace required to make such a sweeping statement, what if one of the people in the WTC towers was going to be the next Hitler? What then? Huh?

but that's not what the problem is with corporations suing sovereign nations. if a country doesn't want a private corporation getting its water, then it should have that right to do so.
if a country or the European Union votes not to allow Genetically Modified foods into its market, it should have the right to do so, and Monsanto shouldn't have the right to sue a country to force its franken-food down their throats.
just as america has a right to say no to the UAE running our ports these countries have a right to say NO to corporations stealing their water and forcing their products downt the people's throats.

Would someone like Hitler make this grissly cost/benefit calculation, is what I'm asking, not whether you and me would. This question is relavent because anyone who plan's the death's of 3,000 is as bad as Hitler? If the government, or Bush, planned 9-11 then why did they kill a particular people that a Hitler (once again, not you and me) would have thought far, far more valuble than average?I apologize for using the example of midwesterners in the previous post. They are just as bright on average as every other group (that hoax that red states had lower IQ's wasn't true in the slightest sense, red states and blue states average nearly identical IQs).

I really don't know how to answer that, again, I was just trying to infer what a Hitler-like American planning September 11th would do. Thus I will try to address your question in the context of that:
A hypothetical Hitler-like American who planned 9-11 would want your hypothetical "next Hitler" in the two towers to survive. He would probably want to use that "next Hitler"'s Hitler-like talents to advance his Hitleresque agenda. But that is if the 9-11-planning-Hitler even knows that the "next Hitler" exists. But hey, if he is powerful enough to make 9-11 occur, he should be powerful enough to detect the coming of "the next Hitler".

If you think about the damage in lives and money that a tower that size would make if it fell over onto other buildings in the area, then it makes sense to have a way to bring it down safely in the event of a catastrophe (like 911). Maybe, just maybe the builders of the towers had already set up the building so it could be brought down safely if it ever ran into trouble. 911 occured, it ran into trouble, it was brought down safely not destroying any other building or extraneous lives. Business as usual.

The answer that was delivered by the administration was: "we have been attacked." Ask yourself why that was the message delivered. Osama planned and committed 9/11. I honestly don't believe that Bush was in on it per se, so much as he simply let it happen. There was ample warning before 9/11 of what was about to happen, but Bush, as has been shown to be characteristic since, did nothing.
Whether he let it happen because he simply couldn't comprehend what it meant, much like with New Orleans, or he was simply incompetent, or he wanted it to happen is unknowable, but we do know it happened on his watch. What we do know is that he ran and hid when it happened, and that thanks to the conservative news, he was made out to be some sort of hero for it.
We know the results, we don't know the motives. Personally I think he is that dumb, rather then that smart, but that is just my personal feelings on the matter, but 9/11 did change everthing. No use denying it.
Before 9/11 torture was point blank unacceptable, after 9/11 you have become a nation of torturers.
Pre-9/11 the US Constitution was the highest law of the land, now, Bush ignores it and Congress isn't even willing to censure him over it.
Before 9/11 America strove to keep International laws, after 9/11 America decided to break them.
Before 9/11 America was fairly full of shit, but embarrassed about it. Now America is quick to shout about everybody else's human rights abuses while championing, not just ignoring, championing its own government for comitting much the same human rights abuses.
Before 9/11 Ann Coulter was simply a crackpot, now she is, like it or lump it, the voice of America.
