Sixty percent of Americans believe that the media is reporting things in Iraq either accurately or better than they really are. Just 29% approve of Bush’s handling of the Iraq war. But if you watched today’s “townhall” event with President Bush you’d never know it.
Towards the end of the event – which lasted over an hour and was extensively covered by all three cable networks — a woman launched into tirade against the media’s coverage of the Iraq war. She concluded that, if people knew the truth, they’d “never say another negative thing about this conflict again.” She recieved a standing ovation. Watch it:
The effect of these staged events is to give people a false impression of people’s attitudes about the President’s policies. The media seems happy to play along.

As for standing up security forces, the Iraqi army has zero battalions battle-ready. That’s one less than they had a year ago.
They did have elections and a constitution, I’ll give them that. Unfortunately, a majority of Iraqi voters want Shariya law. Oops.
So in the administration’s own terms, they are not making progress. And it’s not the media’s fault that people can see it. You don’t need a weatherman to tell which way the wind blows…

It has been three years since the beginning of the war that marked the end of Iraq’s independence. Three years of occupation and bloodshed.
Spring should be about renewal and rebirth. For Iraqis, spring has been about reliving painful memories and preparing for future disasters. In many ways, this year is like 2003 prior to the war when we were stocking up on fuel, water, food and first aid supplies and medications. We’re doing it again this year but now we don’t discuss what we’re stocking up for. Bombs and B-52’s are so much easier to face than other possibilities.
I don’t think anyone imagined three years ago that things could be quite this bad today. The last few weeks have been ridden with tension. I’m so tired of it all- we’re all tired.
Three years and the electricity is worse than ever. The security situation has gone from bad to worse. The country feels like it’s on the brink of chaos once more- but a pre-planned, pre-fabricated chaos being led by religious militias and zealots…
What part of this don’t you understand as civil war?

#78 you can choose to ignore the commanders on the ground, but I can’t nearly every time I have heard them speak they always say that there are very few foreigner fighting in Iraq and that the brunt of the fighting is being done by Iraqi’s. I think by staying in Iraq we are appeasing Al Queda because they can sit back and watch our treasury drain its self knowing that the administration knew a Civil war (Army war college analysis) was probable.

Yes ma’am… but I’m convinced that the reason we are all in here, including the trolls, is that we are the only ones who actually care.
I realized this today in one of my classes as another 15 year old whined and blamed and gave every excuse at to why her not understanding the material we’d been studying for the last three weeks was wholly my fault and zero her responsiblity. People in our culture have grown mentally fat and lazy, with a few exceptions. Until they find themselves unable to afford to drive to the mall to charge the latest trend on their over-the-limit credit card, I think they will continue to look the other way and nothing will change.

Bush is not drumming up support; just awareness and disgust over his fixations. Out of the revulsion, perhaps there can come some honest discourse on approriate actions to take globally to reduce hatred and terrorism.

I then fervently told him that the pledge is to the country and not to its leader, and one takeas the oath to support the Constitution. So, I asked him if he believes in the Constitution, he said yes, so I then said that the true problem is people think that supporting THEIR government, they are ipso-facto supporting the Administration. He understood the difference and would think about his actions.
I think our generation is fucked. We should skin and hang Grover Norquist for bringing the moronic notion of shrinking government until it fits in bathtub and then drowning it notion. That is traitorous to the very core of this liberal government that was founded on Liberal ideals and principles. For these traitors, (use the word fluidly people, also use Nazi, they HATE gw being compared to Hitler, HATE it) to think that their myopic view of what a government should be, is in any way shape manner or form an American view is beyond the rationale.
Get your guns, pitchforks and ropes people. This is not over until all the traitors hang.
