  5. Spudge_Boy says:

Is this going to be done the same way Jack Murtha’s resolution was voted on. You know the part where a republican writes the resolution as their interpretation. Resulting in a bill that makes absolutely no sense at all.

    Hey Seixon,

Care to comment on House Resolution 571? WHo was it written by. What did it call for? What did Jack Murtha call for? Let see just how focused on the truth you are.

  6. Paul in Mexico says:

THIS IS OFF TOPIC, INTENTIONALLY SO!

For a few hours now TV Azteca has been showing the massive demonstrations against the illegal immigration bill wherein all 11 million illegals would automatically be made felons, criminals to the core.

I will bet that you do not see these massive demonstrations on your television sets up there in the states.

Sensenbrenner is a throwback, an ignorant, totally devoid of any sensibilities, ape. His bill is going to be passed by the repuglicans and cause one hell of a lot of trouble.

It is going to be an interesting next 30 – 60 days folks, count on it.

  7. Badmoodman says:

    3 words: Big Fookin’ Deal.

  8. Marie says:

While I am glad to learn of a hearing, I also recall what kind of hearings are held within this congress — they are a spectacle for public consumption, with the end result being that nothing will come of it.
I hope I am wrong, and they do vote to censure the King – but I will believe it when I see it.
Do the Repubs in charge think that we don’t know why they don’t invoke the oath?
We are still waiting for Phase II from Chairman Roberts.
I remember Conyers in the basement storage room and Sensenbrenner turning out the lights and the mikes.
So these guys don’t have a good track record — maybe Specter is different, but seeing is believing.

  9. Alvis says:

Bush declares that he is a man of God, and he swore on the Bible during his oath(s) of office to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution, so help him God. If it were up to me as a private citizen, Bush and Cheney would both be censured, impeached and convicted, and then struck dead by lightning in the prison mess hall.

  10. Glenn Becker says:

    #10, Alvis,

The fact that GWB became president AT ALL, or was able to get anywhere near an important office (important = above and beyond managing a fast food restaurant), was the final nail in the coffin for anything like God as far as I was concerned. Used to be I’d bitch out the omnipotent mofo once in a while, but not any more.

I can not believe the universe has a moral substrate or anything “underneath” or “beyond” it that guides things. That GEORGE W. BUSH is president of the USA finally convinced me that it is all random, purposeless striving here in nature.

I’d love to see an atheist president who grew up dirt poor. But that won’t happen.

  11. Alvord says:

Specter will prove once again that there is no such a thing as a moderate republican when it comes to holding this President accountable.

It will be up to the Dems to show some spine and support Feingold. I hope they understand how important it is that they begin to stand up to Bush and republicans on this and not cave to their fears about offending some voters. They should not take for granted that the progressive base is going to come out to vote for them in the fall.

  12. Colorado Jyms says:

I am always amazed at how the Republicans do not understand the meaning of Hypocrisy. It is totally amazing that the party that tried to impeach Clinton for having sex with an intern wont investigate ANY wrong doing by our current president. All Bush has to do is wave a flag around and claim that he is fighting terrorists and he can get away with anything. Republicans cannot understand that if they allow this president to get away with these abuses, the next president will also be able to get away with them. Especially since we will still be occupying Iraq. So how would they feel if Hillary Clinton was president and she was spying on them? Are they smart enough to realize that this is a two way street?

Some of the things that he could be investigated for are: Imperialism, torture, spying and simply not doing his job by protecting us. Let’s think about what is worth spending 80 million investigating:
Sex with an Intern or Lying to congress about WMD’s, the reason for invading Iraq?
Sex with an Intern or Not responding to warnings of Bin Laden threats (9-11)?
Sex with an Intern or No bid contracts worth millions to currupt companies with ties to the white house?
Sex with an Intern or allowing prisoner abuse and abuse of civil rights?
Sex with an Intern or illegally spying on US citizens?

And these are just the stories we know about. I have a feeling that because this is the most secretive White House in US history we are just looking at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to impeachable offenses. George Bush thinks of himself as a cowboy who can make up the rules as he goes along. He obviously doesn’t give a rip about the constitution. So the question becomes how many times has he ignored the constitution and when if ever will Congress or the Senate be brave enough to look under the covers?

  13. Pro-Democracy says:

Clinton was impeached for lying under oath, not for having sex with an intern, stop lying.

President Bush has not engaged in any impeachable behavior. Defeating Democrats and terrorists is not a crime.

  14. kenny says:

    Clinto

n was impeached for lying under oath, not for having sex with an intern, stop lying.

President Bush has not engaged in any impeachable behavior. Defeating Democrats and terrorists is not a crime.

Last time I checked, violating your oath to uphold the constitution (4th ammendment)and breaking laws set forth by congress (FISA) are impeachable offenses.

  15. Colorado Jyms says:

I was trying to make the point that Bush needs to be investigated. Under oath. So he can be impeached for lying under oath. He should be INVESTIGATED for the possible wrongdoings mentioned above. I think it would be great if he started to defeat terrorists… I’m not convinced that he has. But that is irrelevant. He shouldn’t be able to say “Because I’m defending you I can break the law.” That’s all I am saying. I think he should be able to spy on TERRORISTS, and do it LEGALLY. I just don’t trust him. I think he is spying on good hard working AMERICANS who have done nothing wrong. All I am saying is that we should investigate him like the Ken Starr investigated Clinton. If I am wrong and he is clean.. whats the big deal? If we are trying to spread democracy throughout the middle east we should at least lead by example and show them that we hold ourselves and our leaders accountable. Or is that too hard when we are fighting a ‘war on terra’?

  16. Pro-Democracy says:

Last time I checked, violating your oath to uphold the constitution (4th ammendment)and breaking laws set forth by congress (FISA) are impeachable offenses.

Irrelevant, since the president did neither of those things.

  17. zimmjim says:

I hope the democrats know by now, that you can’t win an argument with the one holding the microphone. They need to be cautious in these “hearings”, demand for a full investigation and wait until after their sweeping victories in November, to really press the issue of impeachment or censure. I am sure Bush et.al., won’t disappoint in the mean time and give congress even more reason to impeach and vote the bastards out.

  18. Colorado Jyms says:

If he didn’t do either of those things.. then surely he won’t mind us taking a little peak..

Just like his domestic spying program. I’ve done nothing wrong so why would I fear him looking through my emails and phone conversations. It’s not like he has ever done anything wrong. It’s not like he would make a mistake. He has been doing one heck of a job! Katrina, the war planning, the port deal, the missing millions in Iraq. He would NEVER screw up something like intelligence gathering and reach the wrong conclusion!

Your right. He is too good to do anything wrong.

    My bad.

  19. propodemocracy says:

Clinton was impeached for lying under oath, not for having sex with an intern, stop lying.

    **********************

You stooge, lying about ” having sex with an intern ” ???????

Is that an important thing? hmmmm

why did the special prosecutor have him in court over a sexual affair ?

why did they spend 60 million to go after clinton?

was it because what he did was so so so bad, and it broke your heart.

did you cry when clinton hurt the integrity of the oval office.

Are you feeling better now that bushed restored that integrity by not investigating 911, fucking up the WMD’s, by starting an illegal war, by wasting 2 trillion to start WW3

feeling proud now that bush ignores the constitution and gets rid of the 4th ammendment?

feeling better now that the USA is the worlds most hated country ever?

feeling better now that america is bankrupt, and indebt to china ?

feeling better now that bush ** MR. conservative republican ** hahahahaha has coubled the national debt ??? you like that ?

im sure in your retarded mind all of the above is better than having a president lie about oral sex with a consensual partner

    enjoy !

  21. Glenn Becker says:

“Defeating … terrorists is not a crime.”

Not at all. Weird, though. Has he done that? Hmm. That’s news to me. Seems there are more of them now than ever before, inspired mostly by hatred for his infantile “crusade.”

Too bad about him not being able to actually capture the guy who — it is said — masterminded the actually terrorist attack this all started with, isn’t it. Too bad about him invading the wrong country and manufacturing more terrorists every day. Too bad.

Too bad you can’t impeach a president for being an ignorant douche bag.

  22. Glenn Becker says:

Too bad you can’t impeach a president for smirking and playing guitar while the brown people drown in New Orleans.

Too bad you can’t impeach a president for repeatedly stonewalling science.

Too bad you can’t impeach a president for lying.

    Oh wait. You can?

    Okay.

  23. Glenn Becker says:

Too bad you can’t impeach a president for insisting on hiring his incompetent cronies, thereby causing the deaths of many.

Too bad you can’t impeach a president for needlessly causing the deaths of tens of thousands of citizens of another country. Or can you?

    I confess I don’t know.

Too bad you can’t impeach a president for being incapable of speaking an English sentence that conveys any meaning whatever. But I digress.

Too bad you can’t impeach a president for unfailingly preferring the interests of big business again and again and again and again.

  24. Marty Didier says:

What most people don’t realize is that censuring Bush is only one step of many that need to be taken if we are going to hopefully change things around. The other point is that taking this first step will show us who is really involved in the problem and who isn’t. Chances are that few are NOT involved and if so, there won’t be much hope for the censure to take place. Another point is the Presidency position is renewed every four years and most of the REAL problem stays in the upper Federal area.

I was in a family for more than 26 years who joined Organized Crime only this wasn’t any ordinary Crime System. They are directly linked to Very Wide Spread Political Corruption that is part of what they called “The World’s Largest Criminal System”. It’s important to realize that if you can’t show yourself as being accountable for wrong doing, as what has been happening for many years now, then something is seriously wrong. I know what that wrong is, because I was in it for more than 26 years.

By the way, you’ve been watching parts of it in the news for the last year with Indictments and perceived corruption operations!

  25. xristim says:

Smarmily pietistic, cynically hypocritical, duplicitous, immersed in cronyism, morally leprous, mentally deficient, and perfectly willing to spend “other people’s children” like unneeded coins found at the linty bottom of an unused jacket while his own spawn — the Lint Twins (like lint, neither useful nor decorative) — cavort in safety. Add to that his penchant for treating the laws of the land like a buffet from which he is entitled to pick and choose those he will deign to honor.

A man with so many failings needs at least the capacitity to be articulate in defense of them. He cannot manage even that.

With the advantage of this man’s opposable thumb, the chimp recipient of the transplant would do a more laudable job.

  26. Clyde the Ripper says:

I just ran across this in some old files–DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?

“The streets of our country are in turmoil. The universities are full of rebelling and rioting. Communists (terrorists) are seeking to destroy our country. Russia (China. Iraq. Iran)is threatening us with her might and the republic is in danger.

Yes danger from within and from without. We need law and order. Without law and order our nation cannot survive.”

Elect us (again) and we shall restore law and order. We will be respected by the nations of the world. Without law and order our republic will fail.

    G. Bush 2000, 2004, 2006
    R. Dole 1996
    R. Nixon 1968
    A. Hitler 1932 (This is an actual quote from one of Hitler’s speeches except for the
    inserts set off by parentheses.)

    When will we ever learn?

  27. dano347 says:

Well I guess the pissy little rubberstamp Spector will finally get to “debate” Feingold.

  28. William Sire says:

I am so glad this is happening. Now we are going to get to watch the begining of the downfall of all this anti bush propaganda.

  29. Glenn Becker says:

#30, “Now we are going to get to watch the begining of the downfall of all this anti bush propaganda.”

Could you please unpack that sentence for us, Hemingway?

I just looked up “propaganda” and found this: “the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person.”

So I think you used the word correctly, anyway. But I’m confused. Why do you think this censure movement is the beginning of the END of such anti-Bush stuff? I mean, It feels like the beginning of a a tidal wave to me. Is it your opinion that this censure is somehow going to lead us all triumphantly back to some kind of knowledge that, ha ha ha, the whole “I am an incompetent, uncaring asshole” thing on Bush’s part was just a big ruse or act and that he had our best interests at heart all the time?

Are you by any chance a rich white person. Do you live in a city but drive an SUV? Do you consider the entire planet to be your own personal toilet?

If so, I guess I can see how you’d feel this way about GWB.

  30. Publicus says:

A hearing? The truth never gets a hearing in this administration. Let’s not count our chickens…the spin continues.

  31. katy says:

well…of topic, sort of…have been hearing about a movie “loose change” about 9/11 for a few weeks now…finally took the time to watch it…i think EVERYBODY should do the same…
i suppose you would need a high speed connection to see it online…
worth your time… just give it your open mind also – but it’s really no stretch…

  32. James says:

at least Feingold can get some time on CSPAN and hopefully the major media networks presenting a pretty good case.

The problem, in my mind, is people don’t know what censure is. It’s not even close to impeachment (which is more appropriate for an unrepentant lawbreaker who continues to do so) but Feingold hasn’t exactly put forward what a ‘censure’ means.

Americans are stupid. Not stupid in that sense, but stupid in having no clue what ‘censure’ in congress speak means. So he needs to get that out and make it clear it’s a pretty mild rebuke.

  33. banana says:

well i would write my senator and encourage him to support the censure of bush, but it’d probably me more productive for me to try to convince churgoers that the earth is more than 5000 years old than it would be for me to contact Bill Frist.

  34. banana says:

    Main Entry: 1cen·sure
    Pronunciation: ’sen(t)-sh&r
    Function: noun
    Etymology: Latin censura, from censEre
    1 : a judgment involving condemnation
    2 archaic : OPINION, JUDGMENT
3 : the act of blaming or condemning sternly
    4 : an official reprimand

    Severe criticism; condemnation; obloquy Bettner v Holt, 70 Cal 270, 275, 11 P 713.

  35. banana says:

seeing how it has to be the House of Representatives that call for an impeachment, it’s about all that Feingold can do as a Senator.

impeachment: 1. The act of discrediting a person or a thing. Calling the integrity or ability of a person into question. The imputation of fault or of defective performance, particularly that of a public officer.

    2. To impeach, as applied to a person, is to accuse, to blame, to censure him. It includes the imputation of wrongdoing. To impeach his official report or conduct is to show that it was occasioned by some partiality, bias, prejudice, inattention to, or unfaithfulness in, the discharge of that duty; or, that it was based upon such error that the existence of such influences may be justly inferred from the extraordinary character or grossness of that error.

U.S. Constitution Art. I, Sec. 3 The House of Representatives shall choose their speaker and other officers; and shall have the sole power of impeachment.

  36. Marie says:

prodemocracy must be a child who doesn’t understand his civics classes.
Clinton was impeached for lying under oath about having sex.
Bush REFUSED to take an oath and lied about war.
Bush also vowed to uphold the Constitution, but has failed to do so. Laws are made by Congress (legislative branch) and everyone, including the president (executive branch) must adhere.

  37. banana says:

also alberto gonzales refused to take an oath when he testified before the judiciary committee about spying on US

  38. kindness says:

It’ll be curious to see if this is even able to make it out of committee.

Not a whole lot of Democrat Senator’s seemed to think alot about this. WTF are they thinking?

I’ll take slapping dumbya’s wrists till I can get enough Senators post election to ITMFA.

Even if it does reach the Senate floor though, we’re going to be hard pressed to find 5 republicans to vote with the Democrats.

    Dethrone the king!

So what’s this Neo-con Government going to do next? March the illigals off to the Gulags just like the Nazi’s did in Germany to the Jews and anyone else that got in their way?

  40. cats are flyfishn says:

    #11 Glenn Becker

Right on – I use to be a “person of faith – Christianity”. Bush and the Fundamentalist Christian have convinced me to give up any sense of Christianity that I once believed in. Now I’m an Atheist. The Soviets and Chinese had it right – no religion. John Lennon had it right – no religion too. Imagine!!!

  41. cats are flyfishn says:

    #14
Pro-Democracy – your name is all wrong. You are really Pro-Facist. If you support Bush, then you don’t support democracy. Bush is a dictator (and a dick) and shows no regard to the Constitution of the US. So, support Bush – you are a pro-facist and not a pro-democracy.

  42. cats are flyfishn says:

    #18 – Pro-Facist
You are irrelevant. Bush did break his oath to defend the Constitution. He clearly broke the 4th Ammendment and he should be impeached. He is also guilty of war crimes and should be tried in the Hague.

  43. Tundra says:

Ok, so the people that are all for censure.

Censure is: Congressional reprimand–the political equivalent of a strongly-worded letter

OK, so they succeed in saying we are mad at you bush in letter form.

Lets take it a step further and say it goes all the way to removal from office. Who is next in Line? Cheney, would that make everyone happier?

  44. Cyra Brown says:

I think “pro democracy’s” name suits him perfectly. It could have come straight from Frank Luntz’s mind. Just like “Clear Skies” and “Healthy Forests”, the exact opposite of what they actually are. He is from BushWorld, no doubt about it! Poor bastige just doesn’t know any better.

  45. john deaux says:

Join the Campaign for progressive legislation.

    http://www.boycott-republicans.com

  46. Tundra says:

    Ryan,

Yeah I guess they could but doing them both together would have less odds of making it through. Waiting will after everything with W is done would take longer than the 2008 elections before they finally moved on Cheney.

I think these little steps are just going to hurt the Democrats cause. The more that get brought up and don’t go through just cause the general public to lose interest and feel like a politician is just getting “Picked on”

Same thing happened to Clinton with the whole affair issue. Originally a very large group of people supported getting him out, after enough time and petty bickering went through, the general public started to feel “Pity” on him and the impression he was the target of a witch hunt came through. Since they couldn’t get him on the first issue, they switched to another tactic and finally that large group got smaller and smaller. If they shoot for this and miss, I think you will see less support on the next attempt.

  47. Ho Chi Minh says:

#2 The Dems are running for cover from this, i.e.– they don’t have any balls; they’re cowardly gutless wonders. VOTE GREEN PARTY.

  48. Heynow says:

If Bush ends up getting impeached for “spying on people without a warrant” then are we going to be stuck with Cheney?. However; Bush need to be held accountable, right or wrong.

  49. Lydia says:

Go Russ go! More than a majority of Americans support you.

  50. katy says:

“VOTE GREEN PARTY” … isn’t that how we got here?
    nader/green/whatever … we can’t afford that now, couldn’t then…

  51. Ho Chi Minh says:

#53 Katy; Ill vote for Dems(joelib excepted) IF AND WHEN they show some backbone. Where have you gone FDR, JFK, RFK or their clones?

  52. Al says:

    #14.
The only reason gw is not impeachable for lying under oath is duh congress refuses to put him under oath. so STFU

  53. JPark says:

#45 I would love to see Cheney as president. Then the full spotlight would be on that evil little man. Do you think he would be able to do the crap he does with all eyes on him? I can’t imagine a Republican ever winning another race. Especially on his coattails.

  54. JPark says:

#35 I am sure as hell going to contact my Senators. Well, only one needs convincing since the other is Feingold but I am sending him an attaboy anyway.

  55. david r. mark says:

JABBS has been all over this story, as part of ongoing coverage of the warrantless surveillance debate.

The question no Republican wants to answer is: if the Bush Administration has “inherent authority,” why did it cut a deal with Senate Republicans? Why did it support Mike DeWine’s “codification” of the surveillance program?

Republicans don’t want to answer this basic question. Democrats — if not all Americans — must demand an answer.

  56. Paul says:

Does anyone rember the Boston tea party, lets have a Houston oil party.
