To be followed will be a leaked document that proves that Andy Card was in fact the person who leaked Valerie Plames name and the false George W. Bush Service records. Rove would never let something as good as the opportunity to falsely accuse someone of wrong doing slip by him.

#7 – what kind of thing is that to say? Repression might serve people like you well. Every time you open your hateful trap, Republicans pick up seats. Very sad and pathetic how personal the left has made politics post Bush v. Gore.

  10. Vance says:

  11. Drew Mackenzie says:

#9 Ironic how you just turned an observation of the appearance of two public figures into a personal attack, yet somehow think you are independent of your own behavior. It’s called “living in your own world”, and Republicans are quite good at it.

  12. Andy says:

#9- Danny you’re dreaming if you think the Republicans are picking up seats. Welcome to fantasy world. I’m glad people like you exist as it gives us realists a chance to make some easy money off of you.

This may not be the best idea….replacing Card might be amistake…he was a good man and he did a good job. I don’t think you guys should be critisizing the president so much. I’m pretty sure he knows what he is doing….even though he did replace Card….but I also believe that Josh Bolten will do a good job.

You mean an angel gets his wings?

Very sad and pathetic how personal the left has made politics post Bush v. Gore.

Actually, you should thank Karl Rove and his strategy of hiring telemarketers to call up voters and ask them whether they would vote for McCain if they knew he had a black bastard baby. (Actually, he and his wife adopted a baby, but the truth didn’t matter, did it?)

    That Karl, such a card.

Or maybe you should look at the Republican party who has adopted the Fear, Smear and Queer political strategy to win elections.

Politics has become extremely vile and dirty in this country, and the Republicans are the vanguard of this terrible trend. And anyone who follows in the Republican footsteps – be they Independent, Progressive, Liberal, or otherwise, does a great disservice to the nation.

  19. Danny in TX says:

I know Democrats have already had their celebration party for winning the mid-terms, but I would remind you all how that worked out in 2004. Americans may be tired of Bush, but not for being conservative, for being liberal. Case in point – immigration.

AND they know the alternative is a two year hatefest of impeachment and god knows what else. My prediction – you don’t get Congress back. Morons like Vance will see tio that. Thanks Vance!!!

Bolten has always been the man behind the curtain. Another cabalistic crony. Not a damn thing changes with Card’s resignation. If Bush thinks this will help his sucky poll numbers, still far higher than he deserves, he’s made another incompetent play. Here’s some info about Bolten:

    Card: Sure. …. news conference?

Bush: I got your letter of resignation and …

    Card: Letter? Resignation? When?

Bush: Just stand by me and nod when I do my pigeon head bobbing thing. You’ll do just fine. And, if you need any boxes, see Harriet Miers. The cab should be here at 10:00, but no need to rush. Oh… and thanks for everything, old buddy.

This is also another tactic that the Republicans and the President himself- The Strawman Argument.

Nowhere did I suggest that Democrats were saints, and I even stated that anyone who would adopt similar political Republican tactics – Fear, Smear and Queer – does a great disservice to this country.

But those untidy facts never stop the “Strawman” from appearing.

How about you engage in real debate, Fatith, instead of flogging scarecrows, hmm?

  28. WC says:

Yeah, and Harriet Miers would have made a good SC judge. She is, after all, the most qualified person for the position. Too bad she didn’t get an up-or-down vote, something that the Right screams so much about.

Meanwhile, speaking of resignations…can Rummy’s be far behind? Isn’t it funny that Bush is oh-so-willing to accept Card’s resignation, but not The Don’s two submissions? I guess this means Card really is doing a crappy job.

Or, as earlier suggested, he’s rehearsing for an audition for the title role in a resurrection of the old TV show “The Fall Guy” to debut this summer, playing a character named Scape Goat.

Quick!!! Somebody tell him the show is about the life of a stuntman!

  31. Tony W says:

Sorry but the democrats voted to give the authorzation to go to war if neccesary.. I have no problems with giving any president that option, the problem was, it was based on BS, and already decided…so I know it’s a difficult concept, but voting for authorization is not the same as voting for war…as far as freedom vs communism…I never mention the soldiers who died in Afganistan, you know OBL and the people who attack us…but the bs with the war in Iraq, is just that…and NO ONE can honestly say, it was worth the price in human lives and treasure, for that…

  32. WC says:

    #14

You touch on a subject that I’ve been pondering for awhile. And that is, if McCain was mentally unfit to be elected President in 2000 due to his years as a hostage in Vietnam, as the Bush campaign would have the world believe, wouldn’t this still hold true in 2008?

  33. Pagan American says:

#23 “If we never had any time of war, and nobody sacrificed their lives for our country, wouldn’t we be still under Brittish rule? So what will it be…Freedom or Communism…”

Are you Trolls really this stupid? Last I checked Britain (spelled with one T by-the-way) was a Democracy. Fighting against a Imperial empire for independence is a totally different world than fighting a war of choice on a country that posed no threat to us. Many Democrats voted to give Bush authorization to use the military because they were spoon fed cherry-picked intelligence and WMDs were forced down everyone’s throat night after night on the news, radio, and in the newspapers.

All of this is off topic though. I see Bolton the same as Card, just another ethically challenged Repub.

  34. Mark says:

As of 8:00am Card is now pulling down a salary in the mid six figure range on K-Street.

#23 are the British Communists? Go re-read your history and see who voted against independence and note that they are generally described as conservative. Heck check out John Dickenson of PA, so under your thought if conservatives always had their way then we would still be under british rule and we would be communists? That communist line is old and faded and has no meaning anymore. Besides communisum never had a chance in this country regardless of what the fear mongers sold.

The Book of Levitcus and Exodus tell us to kill people who work on the Sabbath, kill homosexuals, kill anyone who doesn’t believe in one true God, kill anyone who has an affair, kill anyone who wears more than one type of material on their body at the same time, kill everyone in a town if one person worships another God. In Exodus God says it is okay to sell your own daughter into slavery.

Please don’t give us Biblical reason as to why Bush is leading this country. Doesn’t the Bible also say “love thy neighbor”? “Thou shall not kill”?

Doens’t the Bible also say that God created Adam and then Eve? Then they had kids. Thos kids, when grown up, then left and went to a city to take wives? Now if God created Adam and then Eve and they where the only ones around at the time, then how can their kids take wives?

So you see you religious nut, the Bible is not meant to be taken literally. It is a story of how the writters want it to be. Now, answer this. Who created God?

Check out EvilBible.com and read a breakdown on the morality of God. In total God kills 371,186 people directly and orders another 1,862,265 people murdered.

Back on topic… My opnion is that Bolton will add no new energy or ideas to the rat’s nest and that the scandals and falling poll numbers are here to stay. The big problem they haven’t dealt with and aren’t dealing with is the way in Iraq. Also their domestic agenda is being shown for what it is, something totally unAmerican. People are not going to continue to support the policies of the Republican. They still have Abramoff to deal with, Scotter Libby’s trial, and Delay’s trial. Rice is proving herself to be a totally useless Secretary of State. The torture stories are still going to trickle out. I think this swing of the pendulum has run its course.

I submit to you that George W. Bush, while claiming to be a Christian, performs many UN-Christian acts.

I don’t know who you are, or how old you are (you say you can’t vote. . . does that mean you’re too young?), but your arguments, while at least civil, are unsophisiticated. I urge you to do some unbiased research — meaning, read other news reports besides FOX — and make up your mind. The 9/11 commission, led by a Republican, concluded that Bush ignored a warning a month before 9/11 that Bin Laden was going to attack the US, but did nothing. There are reports that one month after Bush took office, he floated plans to invade Iraq — that is, LONG before Bin Laden attacked, and before anyone anywehre said Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and posed a threat to America.

Bush LIED to America. Invading Afghanistan was a morally justified act, and internationally popular. But Iraq posed no threat to us, and the invasion and occupation was illegal. Saddamn had no weapons of mass destructiuon. The worst part, besides that it has cost the US taxpayer billions of dolars and cost us thousands of American lives, is that Bush took away troops from the effort in Afghanistan, letting Bin Laden go free, in order to invade Iraq. Bush let the greatest mass murderer in US history go free to invade a country that was no threat.

These are all well-known facts, only ignored by those who CHOOSE not to believe them. That’s why conservatives hate the media so much — becasue they report the truth, not what the Republicans want you to believe. (And you should see the media in other countries, especially Europe. . . you would be shocked at how much the American media doesn’t report.)

If you don’t believe my rational arguments, just try reading this all the way through. (It’s old, but the facts haven’t changed.)

Well I guess they are not as smart as the republicans because a dems steals stamp and goes to prison, the republican congress has literally looted billions out of our national treasury and there is no outrage from the fiscally responsible. So I guess they are smarter in figuring that out.

A dem lies about infidelity and is routinely pilloried still six years after leaving office. A republican lies about, well alomst every thing that actually agffects the country and is still routinely praised by his minions. SO I guess republicans are smarter.

When we have a government whereby legislation is for sale to the highest bidder it is a sign of our moral decline. Jesus took in the outcasts, the downtrodden and the unloved, when we as a nation demonize demean and otherwise trample the teachings of christ for politcal gain (such as by blaming the poor for their poverty (katrina, or hating gays, or listening to the hate radio running only through the right channel of our stereos) then that is a sign of moral decline. You assume, as do many fundamentalist Christians that if someone doesn’t believe as you do they are not Christian. This is a mistaken viewpoint given unto the sheep by wolves who really don’t give a feather’s wit about your immortal soul. You believe that even other forms of Christianity are invalid and that no other faith but yours is the correct one.

Such a view is really sad, because if you tale it literally, the Good Samaritan went to hell because he wasn’t a Christian. I’ve heard folks like you say that Mother Theresa went to hell for being a Catholic.

So don’t be surprised when your own beliefs are laughed to scorn, and your leaders deemed thieves and liars. You folks brought it on yourselves.

  125. TerrytheTurtle says:

#122 er no – Evolution is a scientific theory – try some Wikipedia on this its easy and fun:

In scientific terminology however, a theory is a model of the world (or some portion of it) from which falsifiable predictions can be generated and tested through controlled experiments, or be verified through empirical observation.

  126. faith22222 says:

Buddhist’s have no personal relationships with the Lord. You need a relationship with God and you must accept Jesus Christ as your savior. The denomination doesn’t matter…as long as you have these main things. Buddhism is not even close to Christianity in that area of morals.

    Are you a Hypocrite?

Do you go to Church or to the Doctor?

  131. faith22222 says:

#129 My teacher’s have said that yes, dinosaurs where here. But humans where here at the same time. If evolution happened, explain to me the Cambraic Explosion…where many different animals appeared on the fossil reccord. That was NOT a slow process taking millions of years.

  132. faith22222 says:

#131 What on earth does evolution have to do with going to the doctor?! “Hey doctor. I used to be an ape. What can you give me to treat this?” Evolution and modern medicine have nothing to do with each other.

Sure! All you have to do is look at what we can do with DNA! This is the building blocks of life. So if we can change a single point in the DNA and create a hybrid creature, don’t you think that over a billion years that nature can do that? If you don’t then you really need to study science more.

If you don’t think that life can change, just look at viruses. We can create a cure, and the virus will mutate and our virus will no longer work. So imagine this happening over billions of years. Yes, evolution is VALID!.

Much more valid than an idea that man just “poof” showed up on earth and his wife was created from his rib and his sons married wives from a city that could not have existed since Adam and Eve were the main two characters of the book.

No other doubts. So in terms of Bush and his administration, you have no problem with…

    - Bush making statements prior to being elected in 2000 that he wanted to invade Iraq?

    - Members of his administration saying that after he was elected and after the 9/11 attacks he wanted to find a way to invade Iraq?

    - The Bush campaign smearing John McCain in the 2000 campaign, making accusations that McCain was mentally unfit?

    - Bush ignoring the infamous PDB of 8/6/01 warning that Bin Laden wanted to attack America…again?!?!

    - Colin Powell making public statements in early 2001 that Iraq was contained and did not pose a serious threat to the U.S.?

    - Cheney refusing to be interviewed the evening of his shooting of Harry Whittington, claiming national security concerns? What national security concerns?????

    - Bush’s many appointments of individuals who have no qualifications for the job positions they are filling? (”Heck of a job, Brownie!!”)

    - Former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge’s statements that on many occasions, the administration raised the terror threat level over his objections because the evidence was highly questionable?

    - During the 2004 presidential campaign, Cheney telling America that we were sure to be attacked again if John Kerry were elected?

    - The military, under Bush’s command (he is the Commander in Chief, after all) making soldiers pay for their own body armor?

    - Bush’s refusal to attend not one — ONE — funeral for a soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country.

    - Bush’s refusal to sign up Jenna and Barbara to fight for their country?

And this isn’t even a complete list of all the problems that I have with this administration.

So you are pretty sure Bush knows what he is doing, eh? For Bush or anyone in his administration to do something, a decision has to be made. So you are comfortable in the decisions he is making. In every item I posted above, that is exactly what took place…a decision was made. Can you read that list and tell me that in no way do you have a problem with anything I’ve listed? Do you not even see any reason to at least even consider questioning any of these events?

    Comment by faith22222

Why it has been called the Mosaic account of the creation, I am at a loss to conceive. Moses, I believe, was too good a judge of such subjects to put his name to that account. He had been educated among the Egyptians, who were a people as well skilled in science, and particularly in astronomy, as any people of their day; and the silence and caution that Moses observes, in not authenticating the account, is a good negative evidence that he neither told it nor believed it.–The case is, that every nation of people has been world-makers, and the Israelites had as much right to set up the trade of world-making as any of the rest; and as Moses was not an Israelite, he might not chose to contradict the tradition. The account, however, is harmless; and this is more than can be said for many other parts of the Bible.

Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the Bible [NOTE: It must be borne in mind that by the "Bible" Paine always means the Old Testament alone.--Editer.] is filled, it would be more consistent that we called it the word of a demon, than the Word of God. It is a history of wickedness, that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind; and, for my own part, I sincerely detest it, as I detest everything that is cruel.

We scarcely meet with anything, a few phrases excepted, but what deserves either our abhorrence or our contempt, till we come to the miscellaneous parts of the Bible. In the anonymous publications, the Psalms, and the Book of Job, more particularly in the latter, we find a great deal of elevated sentiment reverentially expressed of the power and benignity of the Almighty; but they stand on no higher rank than many other compositions on similar subjects, as well before that time as since.

The Proverbs which are said to be Solomon’s, though most probably a collection, (because they discover a knowledge of life, which his situation excluded him from knowing) are an instructive table of ethics. They are inferior in keenness to the proverbs of the Spaniards, and not more wise and oeconomical than those of the American Franklin.

All the remaining parts of the Bible, generally known by the name of the Prophets, are the works of the Jewish poets and itinerant preachers, who mixed poetry, anecdote, and devotion together–and those works still retain the air and style of poetry, though in translation. [NOTE: As there are many readers who do not see that a composition is poetry, unless it be in rhyme, it is for their information that I add this note.

    - Thomas Paine in The Age of Reason

So you are 14. Ahhh…the age of innocence.

Do you have plans on joining the military after high school? You do realize, don’t you, that as part of Bush’s No Child Left Behind act, your school must give your personal information to the military for recruitment activities, if it is requested by the military. Better have your parents give the school a call and tell them to not to give the info out, unless of course you are interested in a military career, or if you want to contact the military when you are ready, and not the other way around.

    Comment by faith22222

Yes you are NOT a christian. You are a cultist. Jesus was very clear what he was about and todays American cultist does NOT follow in his foot steps… Murders…lies…theft…willing ignorance…desiring the oil of others…racism…religious intolerance… brain washing of children and the weak… accepting the murder of women and children as “collatoral damage”….torture of HUMAN BEINGS that did not attack us on 911… antiChrist two faced preaching about the sanctity of life on one day and the calling of blood from criminals the next…

I grew up in church. I was “saved” at about the age of 10 and from the moment till now I totally believe in Jesus. And everything I saw from the “christians” from the moment on and shown me that they USE Jesus, but do NOT follow him. I am embarresed of the people that I grew up with. They saw the same Jesus I did…and they have turned their back on him… FOREIGNERS like Ghandi HAVE walked in his foot steps…. but so called “christians” in America are ANTI-CHRISTS. They use and abuse the name of Jesus for self gain…… there will be judgement somewhere for you all …and I hope I get to see it… or even participate.

    # 147, I agree with you wholeheartedly. It’s funny, I never considered myself to be a Christian until late in life–mainly because I couldn’t identify with those who USE the name of Jesus to further their own agendas and/or expand their cults. And there have been many times when I’ve thought that “spiritual leaders” such as Falwell, Robertson and others who practice the “prosperity gospel” (and of course that insane zealot “Rev.” Moon) are actually anti-Christs, existing only to deceive people and enrich themselves in the process.

Aren’t there repeated warnings in the New Testament against false prophets? Do the kool-aid drinking crowds somehow assume that the deceivers will be easy to recognize (like they are in those comical “Left Behind” series of books)? Or will the deceivers instead be able to slip in under the cover of “Christianity” and lead people astray

Anyway, sounds like you and I are on the same wavelength here. Thanks for posting that message.

  149. Mark says:

OK faith answer me a couple of Questions. I am a christian and go to church regularly, read the bible regularly etc… I see the bible as a book of metaphors etc… not a factual document so I have trouble reconciling what I know through reason and deductions with what the far right says is literal.

Jesus was a Jew, but according to old Jewish Law you could not be a Jew if your father was nto Jewish. Joseph was not Jesus father, God was/is. God is not Jewish, god is god, so how could Jesus be Jewish?

Also if Jesus was the son of god and truly was an immaculate conception, why do Matthew and Luke have Jesus lineage in their gospels? Seems to me that the son of god has a very short lineage god-son end of story so Being descended from David is not possible.

Seems like you also believe in creationism more than anything else. If god started mankind with Adam and Eve two people who I am assuming are fairly similar in their features, how do we get white, blacks, arabs, american indians, indian indians, the many different oriental looks (cambodians do not look like CHineese, Koreans or Japanese, none of them look alike.) Where do these many races come from? Are they animals as the white supremists like to think? If that is the case than most europeans should fall into that category as we do not look like any one from the middle east. On top of that with two parents and three boys where did the grand kids come from? Was eve the mother of her childrens children? I know they went off to the city to find wives, but how could the city exist and how could there be wives if Adam and Eve are the begining of everything and they only had male children.

Help me out here. Because the literal interpretation of the old testement and some of the new does nto jibe with logic.

  150. Mark says:

#119 Evolution is supported by millions of pages of documentation. So there is faith in the theory (which by the way is not defined as most people think a theory is defined, theory in scince might as well read as fact.) but there is also ample support to back up that faith. The greeks used to believe that Apollo pulled a firey chariot across the sky every day. They had faith in that occuring, but in reality they had no proof, nothing other than faith. Simply dismissing evolution does nto make it go away. And changing the topic to religeon does nto make this administration any less criminal.

  151. Mark says:

#132 actually it did take millions of years. When dealing with an eearth that is between 4 and 6 BILLION years old 20 million years is a miniscule amount of time. 158. Sister Boogie Woman says:

Someone get a message to Eva Braun and tell her to join Adolph Bush in the bunker. The Bush staff members are dropping like flies not because they want to cash in on the book deals (though, likely they can and some may), but because they are jumping from the sinking ship that is the Bush presidency. No one wants the stink of failure to be the public’s lasting memory of them; hence, anyone with a brain will be jumping from Bush’s Titanic presidency and no one but the fiercest loyalists will remain. Again, paging Eva Braun…

  159. Marie says:

This is spring break week for many kids, which leads me to think that faith22222 really is a child of 14.
She has likely led a sheltered life (and at 14, that’s not so bad) but she is not mature enough to question or doubt what she has heard all her life at home and at church.
She is probably a good student, but she has not learned through the “Socratic” method of questioning, but rather from the lecturer’s method. She needs time to develop her own powers of reasoning to determine if she truly believes everything she writes here, or if she is parroting what she has heard.

I just checked in a few minutes ago and I am so with you guys! After years of religious education, I began, as a child, to doubt what I was being told but I was too timid to speak up — over the years, I have gained knowledge and courage.
I do believe the prominent religious leaders today are hypocrites, false prophets and demagogues; they are using the Bible for their own purposes of self-aggrandizement.

  161. Preznit Pinhead says:

faith22222 said: Buddhism is not even close to Christianity in that area of morals.

I wonder how many Buddhists have started wars based on lies, or burned “witches” at the stake, or forced conversions to their religion at the point of a sword?

Note: I am a Christian by the way, but I’m sure YOU wouldn’t recognize me as one because I don’t worship mammon (greed, wealth & power) like the right wingers do.

  162. katy says:

marie, i’ve no doubt faith is sincere in her postings…
and you are correct in your observations…
that’s why i made the comment that it would be interesting to hear from her in a few years…
in the meantime, she falls back on this: “I need to get some guidance from other Christians.” that is worrisome …well, 14 is the time for awakening…
i hope she returns often and benefits from the free exchange of all ideas…

  163. katy says:

also, i found this from a post here at TP a few days ago (?) – a very interesting article:

    The missing link
Scientist discovers that evolution is missing from Arkansas classrooms.
    http://www.arktimes.com/Articles/ArticleViewer.aspx?ArticleID=e7a0f0e1-ecfd-4fc8-bca4-b9997c912a91

…Teachers at his facility are forbidden to use the “e-word” (evolution) with the kids. They are permitted to use the word “adaptation” but only to refer to a current characteristic of an organism, not as a product of evolutionary change via natural selection. They cannot even use the term “natural selection.” Bob feared that not being able to use evolutionary terms and ideas to answer his students’ questions would lead to reinforcement of their misconceptions.
…“I am instructed NOT to use hard numbers when telling kids how old rocks are. I am supposed to say that these rocks are VERY VERY OLD … but I am NOT to say that these rocks are thought to be about 300 million years old.”…

    this, in the 21st century???

    Incredible isn’t it?
Some people are going backward, and unfortunately, some of them are on school boards deciding what and how to teach children. We are already being overtaken by other nations, and unless we resume teaching our children how to think and reason with logic, our descendants will be workers of the third world, the former USA.
Our young friend, faith 22222, is an example — she is bright, but unable to think independently. LIke you, I hope she will mature over the next few years and become a real asset to the community, instead of the uncritical lemming for which she is being groomed.

  165. katy says:

you know, marie – i just had an epiphany … you said, and i agree, that she is “unable to think independently” … but, think about this – maybe not! what brought her to ThinkProgress?
THAT was a smart, even independent move! Hooray!

but then, TP is probably on the list of “sinful” sites to avoid, so she HAD to check that out … imagine that … and in this case, good deal!
