Gays adopt children to molest them.

By Nico Pitney on Mar 28th, 2006 at 6:21 pm

Gays adopt children to molest them.

So says right-wing Tennessee State Rep. Debra Maggart (R): “We…have seen evidence that homosexual couples prey on young males and have, in some instances, adopted them in order to have unfretted [sic] access to subject them to a life of molestation and sexual abuse,” she said. Adoption institutions strongly disagree.

why is it that it is always the repressed “retardicans” that say the stupidest things?! maybe tennessee has an large gay population? doubt it. maybe inbreeding has shrunk her brain? probably! i’d like to see real facts on this, not just retardican quotes. why do you suppose they never talk about health care, iraq, education, etc. instead they dream up these gut reaction quotes to fire up the voters. then the voters forget they don’t earn enough to pay heating bills, or buy food, or get a car, but by god don’t let the gays adopt! pllleeaaassseee!

What is it about some folks that they would even say stuff like this? I know whipping folks into a frenzy might appeal to the Karl Rovebots of the world, but doesn’t the person who says this stuff get humiliated later when it’s realized they’ve been lying?

    Damn fool assholes.

    Unfretted? Uh, ok.

  5. ShamRockNRoll says:

Why do republicans hate America? It seems like they’re just dying to live under a regime like Hitler’s where they can exterminate anyone who does not fit their mold.

  6. townser says:

Sadly, there are many people out there who believe this bunk.

  7. Zookeeper says:

“In Ohio, conservative lawmakers introduced a bill to ban the placement of an adoptive child in a household where anyone is gay.”

Potentially problematic. Would an adoption be void if one of the other children in the household realized he or she were gay? What if the adopted child were gay? Idiot f*ckers.

The only “problem” that may exist is that a child raised by a gay couple might be open minded and accepting of all types of people. Wingnuts can’t have that happening.

  8. Silly Little American Boy says:

Why does the right go to such extremes when making completely false assessments?
I think the reason the left is so attractive is simply because they don’t appear to be quite as crazy as the right.
WTF is wrong with these people!?

  9. Dan says:

Does unfretted sex mean you don’t have to learn the fingerings?

but doesn’t the person who says this stuff get humiliated later when it’s realized they’ve been lying?

    Comment by kindness

Getting caught lying hasn’t stopped many of the prominent Republicans from doing it anyway, especially the President and Vice President.

Conservatives do not value the truth. I believe that thoroughly. They have no problem with lying to try to convince you that they are right even when they aren’t. I remember Novak writing about a husband-notification provision of an abortion-restricting bill and saying that if the woman is really worried about what her husband would do if he found out that she was getting an abortion to just go ahead and lie on the form and say you told him. “They don’t check.” That was how he suggested someone solve the ethical dilemma, to just lie on a government-required form. Would someone who values the truth even suggest something like that?

So when homophobes get themselves elected to government, they also have no problem spreading stupid lies to get their way. During the whole “Don’t ask-don’t tell” debate, Senator John Warner actually said that he didn’t believe it was possible for a gay man to remain celibate throughout his tour. That comment came out of pure ignorance.

I’m sure that Tennessee has its share of gay legislators, so why doesn’t she just ask one of them what they think of the bill? Or is she too afraid to get close to them.

    Homophobes are useless.

#11 – WTF is wrong with these people!?

In my opinion, these people think sex is dirty, dirty, dirty — the most icky and horrible thing a person could possibly do. Worse than beating your spouse, killing anyone, cheating in general, etc. They are afraid of sex. That’s why they end up getting caught with hookers, farm animals, and underage girls. They think everyone is as sick as they are.

You’re right. They have a serious problem with sex. But the way I see it, the problem isn’t so much that they think sex is dirty, but that nudity equals sex. So if there is nudity, there must be sex going on, and they just can’t let that go. This is why we don’t have our version of “the girl on page three”, like they do in London. Because bare breasts would mean that someone is having sex! This is why there was such an uproar over Janet Jackson’s brief nipple exposure. Because in the minds of conservative viewers, it was the same as her and Justin Timberlake having sex right on the stage.

And whether or not they want to admit it, I believe that their repressive views on sex are derived from their religious training. Not that their religion necessarily taught them what they came to believe, but that they took the story of Onan to heart and decided that sex must be for procreation only. That’s stupid, of course, because if sex was supposed to be only for procreation, then why would it be so enjoyable? It’s pleasurable and enjoyable so we will want to do it. If every time a couple had sex, they HAD to produce a baby, there would be a lot fewer people in the world. Since they don’t have to, we can enjoy sex for the pleasurable act it was meant to be.

And conservatives will just have to get used to this. Or get laid. Either one will help.

  18. Zookeeper says:

#26 – I believe you are right, Wayne. Nudity=sex. That does boil it down a bit better. When I saw Janet Jackson’s boob, all I thought was, “Well, that’s embarassing, and is that some sort of piercing?” I was amazed at the uproar.

#5 – in answer to your question, Republicans hate America because they are BORING and incapable of independent thought. You can always spot a Republican in a crowd – BORING – and then there’s this thing called “Republican Art”. Now that’s a joke because there is no such thing as “Republican Art” – once again, BORING and this is why Gays are a problem for Republicans. The lack of creativity in the Republican brain keeps them BORING. To them, sex is performed in the missionary position and in Tennesse, probably with the daughter.

  21. TennesseeDem says:

Hey #2, just so we’re clear, just like not all gay parents are child molesters, not all people from Tennessee are right-wing nutjobs like this crazy bitch. Thanks for understanding. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m late for a date with my cousin. ;)

  22. Punchy says:

    Dave–
Thanks a ton. I just emailed the Rep myself. I recommend everyone spend 2 minutes telling her politely where she’s in error…

  23. kindness says:

Wayne, I think you are right. Granted, most of the Western religions were “birthed” way back when. Times have changed, but orthodox heirarchy hasn’t because loosening of the “rules” takes away their power over their congregations.

It’s really funny too. Growing up I was very lucky to live in a very multicultural/economic area. We had a great mix of almost everybody. Many of the Catholic parents of my friends practiced birth control. They didn’t tell their priest. Many of my jewish friends ate BLT’s with me. They just didn’t tell their rabbi. This stuff effects the Orthodoxies of the religious world more than your average believer who doesn’t believe EVERYTHING someone tells them.

Sex. it’s so easy to deamonize. Trouble with that is, we all do it. Some of us do it differently.

btw – MOST CHILD ABUSE CASES are STRAIGHT MEN molesting little Girls….funny how that lil factoid doesn’t come up either.

  24. cats are flyfishn says:

    #21 – Free Dumb

You are correct – the Catholic church burned women at the stakes, Joan of Arc as an example, and killed ‘heretics’ and Jesus did state that those without sin should throw the first stone.

Jesus was a Liberal Persecuted by Conservatives.

These Fundamentalists don’t even know the teachings of Jesus. And, according to the bible, abortion is okay as long as god is the one performing the abortion.

I have no love for these people but if you contact her, be cool and ask her why she believes FOCUS ON THE FAMILY’s anti-gay adoption research (remember those anti-gay FORD FOLKS???) is a reliable source.

Make sure you ask her exactly how James Dobson (FOTF) is an authority on this issue…could it be because she believes like James that in order to raise a “straight” son, you must take a shower with him so he can see how big your c–k is? Don’t believe that’s true, read his book. He says it and he believes it. My what a Christian, I bet Jesus would do the same.

#33 kindness. Thanks for mentioning the fact that most child molestation is committed by straight men. As a gay man, being assumed to be a paedophile is hurtful at first but after years it just becomes tiresome. If I had any desire to have my way with a boy, there are sure easier and cheaper ways than adopting.

I do not plan to adopt. A gay friend of mine does have such plans. He will make a good and caring father.

  40. Priscilla says:

As the adopted child of a heterosexual couple, and as the sexual abuse victim of the fother of this couple for thirteen years, I find Maggart’s theory laughable. Pedophiles are not necessarily gay. It is just as wrong for girl to be sexually abused by a male (or female) as it is for a male to be sexually abused by a male (or female).

  41. Jack says:

Facts or reality don’t seem to matter to these folks. They just hate gays and any vile thing they can think of just comes spilling out. How sad for them. It doesn’t solve the problem, and only makes it worse for all of us in society.

They always lump people together, attack groups they don’t like just because the don’t like them, and conveniently forget Catholic priests, community leaders, heterosexuals…. I’m sure they could find evidence of all kinds of folks adopting for the wrong reasons. And the system is broke…

Look at the BTK killer, where he came from, who the community thought he was, and what he actually did. Oprah has been having shows on child predators (FBI most wanted list) and I don’t recall anyone being gay. The story of Masha, a girl from Russia who was adopted by a divorced father, who molested his own daughter, wasn’t gay, but was allowed to adopt. For years he tortured this young girl.

    http://www.oprah.com/presents/2005/predator/profiles/profiles_victims.jhtml

Certainly the adoption process is a mess, and we aren’t protecting kids (I always remember Susan Vega’s song “My Name is Luca”, and think, have things changed?) as we should, but this kind of rhetoric does not help. I wish there were more people with courage and common sense, maybe the media, that would tell these people to get a life and stop talking nonsense.

Agreed here, tho I’m not sure that is the whole picture … my impression is that they think sex that FAILS TO PRODUCE CHILDREN is somehow “ungodly.”

Of course anyone who casts even a cursory glance around will agree that there just ain’t enough damned people on this planet.

Can anyone provide some good, truly free public records sites? I did a google search and got frustrated after going through 3-4 sites saying they give free results and every single one then asks for payment to order a report.

I want to check on some of those claims hamster made and also take some time to find others on my own.

    Thanks. :-)

Free Dumb, do you remember that little chat you & I had about you taking your meds? Well, from the looks of things here, you’ve been forgetting again. Please– for me– could you just try to remember to take your meds next time before you post? Thanks, buddy!

#33 gave us a great list of child-molesting Repukes, Repubs, and RepubliKKKlans. An easy way to access that info for future reference is to use the website (deleting the extraneous spaces) http://www.armchairsubversive.com.

  68. Missy says:

Perhaps a few questions to Rep. Maggart concerning her marital and partnership history would provide an interesting dynamic to this. In all probability, she will listen to nothing that challenges her beliefs concerning HLBT lifestyles, but a little light on her own transgressions may remind her of the”logs” in her own eye.

  69. Sister Boogie Woman says:

The truth is, studies show that children raised by gay couples are as well adjusted, or better adjusted than those raised by heterosexual couples. Do an internet search and check it out. Why in the worlds can’t these people get there f***ing minds out of the gay topic? Their fascination and hatred of gays says only one thing: they themselves are repressed homosexuals, and they hate themselves for it. Do a little internet searching on that topic also, and you’ll see that it’s true. So sad that these self-haters have to try to drag the rest of world down with them.

  72. Cyra Brown says:

If the republicans were REALLY concerned about these children, they would be living their “Family Values” storylines, by ending any need for adoption in their state(s) by adopting every last child in need of a pemanent home. Children who for the most part, have no doubt come from one of those VASTLY superior “Straight” homes we have all heard so much about. Well the kids didn’t make out too well there, now did they? But typically, Republicans put their own predjudices before the needs of the children. Way to go. That’s so helpful.

  73. KB says:

Child sexual endangerment is about control, manipulation, and money, regardless of sexual gender. At risk of being crass, I hope Ms. Maggart is not using those same agendas to further her own campaign.

  74. Chris says:

Homosexuality is sick, diseased and repugnant lifestyle. Seeing as the queer can not reproduce naturally, due to their unnatural perverse crimes against nature, they must recruit. Children are at risk from catching AIDS from queers as well as becoming trapped into a homosexual lifestyle. Fags and dykes must be segregated from our children for their very safety and well being!

  75. JLF says:

What an infuriating statement. Pedophiles have no sexual orientation other than the fact they are attracted to children. Many homosexuals would make much better parents than some straight couples. What about sickos among the straight population who produce children only to abuse and torture them? This whole argument is ridiculous. If someone is going to molest a child, then it doesn’t matter if they appear to be straight or gay. The real sickness isn’t homosexuality. Just because someone is a homosexual it doesn’t mean they have a propensity for children. That’s just an ignorant statement made by people who have to justify their intolerance of those who are different by making ludicrous and asinine accusations.

  76. Rachel says:

I am appalled that a person who without doubt considers himself educated would voice such a ludicrious opinion. I think it ridiiculous to assume that sexuality would alter one’s ability to parent a child, or more specifically to love a child in the way a child is expected to be l oved. I think this is the most homophobic piece of garbage I have ever heard. What an assumption! Such an idiot has no respect for human rights, something that should be constantly in the back of a senator’s mind!

  77. Christopher Walker says:

Fortunately this rabid nutcase Debra Maggart is not running unopposed for re-election to her seat in the state legislature. The Democrat who’s running against her, Patrick Gardner, seems like a reasonably sane and sensible person, judging by his website:

    http://www.patrickgardner.org/

I think I’m gonna send him a few bucks. I get so tired of reading stories like the one you profiled, and getting angry, but having nothing practical that I can do in response. Maybe if I actually *do* something this time, my blood pressure will go down. And in a small, rural district like that, if a certain number of folks make an effort to help, maybe Rep. Maggart will get a surprise in November when the votes are counted.

  78. derek says:

people like her just make me sad. one day soon i will be having kids and for the say that my partner or i will ever hurt them really upsets me! who does she think she is? she doesnt know me. im proud to be who i am i just b’c that happens to be gay doesnt mean i shouldnt have the same right as everyone else! aim:mrderek16

  79. REALLY says:

I think men should not adopt children they have been hurt enough.

  80. mom says:

being gat is wrong in the sight of GOD those that are gay need to find a place and repent they need kids like they need another hole in there head . If they think well we will just go get us a couple of kids and we will have family well get real only men married to women can have a real family they are just living in a dream world. there is always a possibility that they will in the long run have desire to molest the child or children because, they are just lusting after there partner love is not between two men or two women living as a married couple. there is no such thing in this world going to just be looked at as normal now or any other time people know that it is just wrong .you want a family as a gay couple get a dog when you split up it wont hurt the kids .leave our kids to a normal family mom and dad not mom and mommy or dad and daddy this does not make sense to even say it in this way it is so stupid for men and women to want to live like this they know. that is why a lot of them will not come out and say that they are gay this is so wrong and in the long run they will more than likely molest the child to hurt the partner or to just have an extra partner they will work that child outill it thinks that is the way things are supose to be in his or her life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
