Fox News: Keep Out ‘Freeloading Illegals’ By ‘Gutting Welfare’

Fox News today came up with a solution to stemming the flow of undocumented workers into the United States — gut welfare.

The Fox News headline ignores the realities of immigration. Undocumented immmigrants pay $1.5 billion in Medicaid taxes each year, along with another $7 billion in Social Security taxes.

Additionally, according to a recent Pew Hispanic Center study, immigrants do not come to this country because they are unemployed and want to “freeload” off the U.S. economy. Most are gainfully employed before coming here, and immigrate to rejoin families, to improve working conditions, and to earn higher wages.

My understanding might be a bit weak, but if your not registered with the gov’t how do you get welfare?

  2. DrSinker says:

How to save this country: gut Bush?

  3. Chase says:

Who cares. They shouldn’t be here in the first place, much less on welfare (which I doubt happens as much as the RIGHT WING MEDIA suggests).

Just enforce the laws we have now, against the illegal immigrants and the businesses that hire them and wages rise and more Americans can find unskilled work. Everyone goes home happy. Except the illegal Mexicans who are deported.

But I welcome them to go through the legal immigration process like millions before them.

  4. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

    That’s compassionate conservatism for you.

    Gut the Bush Cabal instead.

  5. Red says:

Doesn’t Fox News realize that Bush and his corporate buddies like migrant workers, because they’re easy to exploit and they help keep wages and prices down? Why does Fox News hate the Bush administration and Corporate America?

  6. BeingThere says:

What do you mean, FoxNews ignored the realities of the situation?

  7. Jack says:

I’m with #1, if they are undocumented, how did they pay into the system of Social Security and Medicare? If they are undocumented, how are they getting welfare? I’m assuming welfare is food stamps, medicaid, energy assistance, telephone assistance, child care, housing, school programs, etc., etc., etc.,

I thought the whole thing about illegal aliens is that they are underground, paid cash, or other creative payments via the employer. Because a reasonable person would otherwise assume the employer would be getting a visit from immigration officials for breaking the law by hiring illegal aliens and the illegal aliens would be deported. We aren’t just talking Social Security and Medicare. There is also workmen’s comp, unemployment. Are those funded when illegal aliens are hired?

I think it is at least prudent to look into these programs, not all cuts or reduction of redundancies are bad.

Has anyone ever looked at that Matt Lesko book on government monies, there are so many programs, so much redundancy, we could do a little housecleaning, help more people, and save money. Maybe we should just take his book, use it as a guide and cut everything in it ;-)

  8. conservatively compassionate says:

Or we can gut school lunches, because they won’t stay here if their children are starving

  9. Marie says:

Leave it to Fox to fan the flames of ignorance and racism in America.
Illegals do not collect welfare — they are undocumented.
Illegals come here to work, and they are hired by employers who want the cheapest labor they can find, for long hours, no benefits.
This is a very complex problem requiring a huge effort to resolve, and pandering to the ill-informed with demagoguery is particularly devisive.

  10. Miro says:

Isn’t it interesting that the rich “private sector socialists” who’ve been on one big gravey train all their lives point to those who do actual work and call them free-loaders?

Isn’t that just the kookiest! Never would have expected it of them, myself.

  11. conservatively compassionate says:

Or we could taser them because they won’t want to stay if they’re being tasered all the time.

And close all the emergency rooms, because I heard illegals use them. They won’t want to stay if they can’t get treated for a gushing head wound.

    It’s all about market incentives!

  12. Mark says:

So what is it, are they taking all the good jobs from us? Or are they a bunch of lazy freeloaders? How are they allowed to freeload?

  13. conservatively compassionate says:

I bet if the red states build walls around their own borders nobody would really mind.

  14. Mark says:

#8 many illegals have fake social security numbers. Their employers pay them regular wages and withhold the regular taxes. Many of the illegals then fail to file income tax returns leaving the government with social security and medicare taxes which they are unable to apply to accounts and income tax withholding which goes unclaimed. When I did public accounting I used to review payroll and the employees at certain company’s would change social security numbers each year while keeping the same name. It’s pretty easy to get documentation if you want it.

  15. Krazny says:

I wouldn’t mind a wall around texas with the barbed wire pointed inwards, we can exempt Austin from what I understand.

  16. SL Aronovitz says:

This strawman argument is just another in a long line of republican excuses to destroy any and all safety nets or social programs that exist for American citizens. Immigrants aren’t the reason; they’re the excuse, and not a very good one at that.

    Peace

  17. Zookeeper says:

Admittedly, I live in pasty white rice cake, Idaho, but in my experience the people on welfare, of whom I am aware, are white. Are there any statistics available on who is actually on welfare?

  18. Gary Ruppert says:

When it comes to news, the real news is that the Democrats showed their real attitude about police today.

Cynthia McKinney punched a cop today in DC.

But i’m sure the left will blame it on the cop.

  20. Zookeeper says:

#14 – They just have to let me out first, then they can seal it up!

  21. Michdem says:

Here is a chilling thought , with the illegals get an extra 5 or 6 years on their visa popping babies out as fast as they can at our expence , the country will have a sizeable minority , like 35 % to 45 % of the population . That my friends is where disent comes in and we have problems like European counties like Yugolslavia did . It can happen quick , four years after the Olympics they were killing people in soccer fields . There are enough rednecks to make that happen .

  22. Vaughn D. Taylor says:

Tom Hartman, standing in for Randi Rhodes, is picking this apart right now.

  23. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

When it comes to real news, trolls and ReichWingNuts run and hide.

Bush policies are more stupid today than when he first stole office.

But I’m sure the WingNuts will try to blame the Dems.

  24. Geoff says:

The funny thing is, the people who want so badly to round them up in freighttrains and ship them out of the country are the very same people who depend on them the most. Go to Northern San Diego county, look at the rich republican pro military bush loving people, the fox “news” watching people, the ones whose existence as they know it would grind to a halt without the immigrants, both legal and illegal. Probably a quarter of the population in towns like Carlsbad and the vicinity are illegals…take a look at these people who spend more money on landscaping each year than the bottom 10% of Americans make in salary. Then look at their landscape crews…one old crusty white guy, with a pack of illegals following him around trying to understand his sign language. These people are but one thing – hypocrites. They benefit the most, and yet they yell the loudest. Id like to see how they would survive without these people The fact is, we dont let enough legal immigrants in, and the ones that got in already should be put through the ringer so that they can stay legally, and become part of this country…its called assimilation and it works much better than deportation.

  25. Glenn Becker says:

Let’s kick /all/ the illegals out & give the space back to its original owners.

  26. Krazny says:

#19, no cynthia will accept responsibility for actions, and apologize to the officer. Accepting responsibilty for ones actions is a new concept for republicans, but watch it in action.

  27. Mark says:

#22 Yugoslavia? DO you know what you are talking about? Yugo went the way it did for a reason and immigration had NOTHING to do with it. Yugoslavia was an artificially created country after WWI. They took various ethnic groups that hated each other and combined them for convienience sake into one country. They country ran fine and the hatered was kept in check by a strong central government. Once communisum began to fall things happened. IN Yugo Slavia the government was no longer able to govern and the various ethnic groups went to war with each other to reclaim old lands and to settle old debts. When the Serbs invaded Kosovo one reqason given for the ethnic lceansing they did was to avenge what occurred in the field of the black birds way back in the 1300’s. Immigration had nothing to do with what happend and it was strictly related to ethnic clashes. Minority status for some was nto an issue either as it was the strong for the most part preying on the weak.

Or are you intimatign that ethnic cleansing is called for in the US? Or most likely, as this is the greatest fear for republicans…Minorities might eventually gain political power.

Popping out babies as fast as they can? I thought that’s what republicans want? Isn’t it? Or is it that they only want white babies? Now they have a conundrum. Hmmm the ideal of America that there is something here for everybody…do they keep that myth alive? Or do they export everyone they don’t approve of> I’ll go with the second choice as republicans do nto seem to like America very much. The other conundrum they face is that they don’t want all these little brown babies and they seem to hate both abortion and birthcontrol, what should they do? I know…forced sterilization. That seems to be a topic the fringe dwellers bring up time to time.

  28. Mash says:

How about gutting corporate welfare instead?

  29. Joe Sixpack says:

Freeloaders? How many are aware that the huge corporate exploiters like Walmart actually help their underpaid workers apply for government benefits —-as compensation for the benefits they refuse to give to their poorest employees?

Why doesn’t Fox mention that? CNN did a few weeks back, while pointing out that nearly all those corporate owners are billionaires.

  30. Gary Ruppert says:

#27, you mean like how Cynthia took responsibility for her 2002 loss by blaming it on “The Jews”?

  31. wisedup says:

Go after the Mexican goverment, not the people, and solve the problem.

  32. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

#31 – How about gutting corporate welfare instead?

    Good question.

Welfare at it’s height was worth +/-$90billion/year. Corporate wellfare has risen beyond $290billion/year.

AND, corporations used to contribute around 25% of the revenue collected by the IRS. Today it’s significantly less than 6%.

Which means that the middle class is paying the bulk of the tax revenue collected by the IRS.

I’d like to think ReichWingNuts would already know these things. But they are self serving strawman building simpletons.

  33. Michdem says:

Mark I wasn’t talking about Titos Yugoslavia I was talking abot Slobidan Milosiavic , think before you rampage . Thanks for the history lesson but I know about the region and if you think the post soviet block Yugoslavias prblems wer’nt ethnic you better go back and check the facts a little better , and as far as republicans having as many babies as they can , well that might be , but it’s got nothing to do with what I said .

  36. Ryan Neat says:

    Jesus,

It’s even less than that. In FY2005 the entire budget for all entitlement programs for the Administration on Children and Families (ACF) was only 32.7 billion.

Yet in the same year the federal government gave 60+ billion in ‘welfare’ to the oil industry through unfair and unjustified tax cuts. Then lets not forget the 250 billion for fighting the Iraqi Oil war over the last 3 years.

Welfare for the entire country over the last decade is still far less than a single year’s expenditures by the pentagon.

    Cynthia McKinney Is a Badass
    March 29, 2006
Last Call: McKinney Punches Police Officer
As first reported in Hotline’s Last Call!:
Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) punched a U.S. Capitol Police officer today after he mistakenly pursued her for failing to pass through a metal detector.
Members are not required to pass through metal detectors and the officer, manning a position at Longworth House Office Building, apparently did not recognize McKinney and didn’t see her Member pin.
The officer called out “Ma’am, Ma’am,” in an attempt to stop her.
When the officer caught up to McKinney, he grabbed her by the arm.
McKinney pulled her arm away, swung around, cell phone in hand, and punched the officer square in the chest, according to the witness.
McKinney’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“Seriously, don’t cross her. She’ll cut you.
Cynthia McKinney, you are our Representative of the Day.”

Illegals aren’t because of welfare, it’s because people keep hiring them because it’s cheap labor and don’t offer benefits

  44. Now I am Become Death says:

The fact is we have a SHORTAGE of immigrant labor. The AG businesses in California and Texas don’t have enough workers to pick crops right now.

Americans won’t pick lettuce no matter how much you pay them.

Get ready for massive food shortages this summer. You’re going to be paying $5.00 for a head of lettuce. A basket of strawberries will be $10.00 — if you can find any in your grocery store. 2007 will see empty shelves in supermarkets — both fresh and canned produce — and Americans will be digging up their lawns to put in vegetable gardens.

People will be asking, “How could this happen in America, the richest country in the world?”

The entire country will have an opportunity to experience welfare and food stamps, because we’ll have WWII-style food rationing and that government cheese will be in high demand.

  45. Ryan Neat says:

“Cynthia McKinney punched a cop today in DC.
But i’m sure the left will blame it on the cop.
    Comment by Gary Ruppert”

Correction, a cop HARRASSED Cynthia McKinney for following standard procedure because he wasn’t doing his job. He grabbed her should, and she bumped into him. If you think that’s ‘punched’, then you’re one prissy little flake. Even FAUX news only claims “The sources said that McKinney then turned around and hit the officer in the chest with her cell phone.” Yeah, maybe in your pansy world a cell phone is how you ‘punch’ someone, but please, grow up child.

Gary, like everything you post, it’s a non story, she didn’t ‘punch’ a cop. But in typical fashion you lie, misrepresent, distract, and change the subject just like FAUX news. Heaven forbid you actually tell the truth about how little money is spent on welfare (

  46. Marie says:

Matthews on Hardball is ba-a- ck! His softer touch with Dems lasted less than a week. Tonight he said “liberalism” killed the unions. Dems have no plan for immigration, yet he failed to challenge George Allen on what he would do with the immigration problem.
He had a nice pat-a-cake interview with Allen; and when he had two Dems on who wrote a book, he sliced and diced.

    yea right…”update at 10″…

  49. Ryan Neat says:

    katy,

Considering she was where she needed to be, was doing nothing wrong, and he ‘assaulted’ her personal space and her body – yeah right. Sorry, but if anyone should and could press charges, it’s her. Sorry, but that dog won’t hunt.

  50. katy says:

sure thing ryan…i just went to google news and put in her name, all kinds of stories…i figure the “press charges” is hype … get this spin:
“Republicans circulated an e-mail noting that McKinney’s party the same day announced an election-year “affirmation” of their commitment to shoring up the nation’s security.

“On a day when the Democrats unveil their national security agenda, it’s probably not a good idea to allegedly strike a police officer,” said Ron Bonjean, spokesman for House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill.

BY THE WAY: WHERE IS THAT STORY OF THE DEMOCRATIC PLAN???
still perplexed about that mystery of this morning…

  51. LC Liberal says:

How can illegal immigrants get welfare anyway? Don’t you need legal ID for that. The right wants to gut welfare anyway, so this is just a pathetic excuse for discussing the issue. Why don’t the neo-cons just obliterate Mexico with nukes or something. That will end the problem.

  52. Gary Ruppert says:

I hope they toss that cop in jail for awhile. There’s no excuse for them to harrass, and grope a congressperson that way – especially when they haven’t done anything wrong.

“The fact that the left is defending her shows that Cynthia McKinney’s views represent the core of the Democrat party. Comment by Gary Ruppert ”

The fact that they are defending a cop for harrassing a democrat shows that harrassment (maybe torture?) represent the views of the republican party – but we already knew that. Fascism always relied on cops to harrass the ‘liberals’, and Gary is just letting his inner Adolph out of the closet again.

  55. Ryan Neat says:

Poor Gary Ruppert is so retarded he thinks that a poor little black woman could ASSAULT a cop, and walk away – bahahaha

What kind of PANSIES are they hiring for security again? Good thing Cynthia wasn’t Al Queda, otherwise the fine folks in blue would’ve just allowed a terrorist attack. The more you say Gary, the more STUPID you look – bet we already knew that.

As for the illegal alien, the issue happens when a child is born here. It receives citizenship when born in the country (illegal or otherwise), and becomes eligable for child services.

I’m sure the conservatives would love for these children to alternatively be sick, carry disease, be uneducated and/or starve to death. But in reality, they are just like all americans in that when you’re born in this country, you are an american. And it doesn’t matter who your parents were.

  59. Obie says:

The bottom line with fox news is the ratings. It all about da money. Follow the money trail. They don’t “really” care about issues on illegal immigrants, the welfare system, the so-called “war on terrorism” (which is a ridiculous label for something that has always been part of humanity’s existence, read the history books), gay marriage, pro-life, pro-choice, etc etc. They want to make money, lots of it! But ofcourse who doesn’t want to make lots of money. We all want to in some capacity. But they exploit, I mean XXXploit the issues of the day to draw in viewers, and post those stupid labels on the TV. They’ve been doing this from day one. If they somehow discovered a way to receive good ratings by criticizing the Bush administration in a healthy debate (and I’m not proposing bush bashing and “Hannity and Colmes” doesn’t count), they will do it. But I doubt that will ever happen.

  60. Obie says:

  71. Cyra Brown says:

I can’t figure out what the Republican “game plan” is here. They are taking a pretty big risk. Upsetting “the money”, right before an election doesn’t seem like the smartest move. If their “cheap labor” goes away, and they actually have to pay people the “legal” wage to work, there goes the “extra” money they would otherwise donate to the cause. They must really be freaking out. But they are fun to watch right now. Every day brings a fresh pile O’ crap, courtesy of the Republicans. Enjoy! You have EARNED IT!!!

  72. TLB says:

Amanda: You’re out of your depth.

Prospective immigrants who came to Ellis Island were sent back if it was possible they were going to go on the public dole.

Even today, some (most?) legal immigrants must have a sponsor to make sure they aren’t going to go on the public dole.

As for illegal aliens, well, that doesn’t apply, now does it?

And, while illegal aliens do pay in to our system, they also take a great deal out. Including very high incarceration costs (which Bush refuses to refund to California and other states), the $10 billion the LAUSD – just one large school district – is spending to build new schools for a majority illegal alien or child-of-illegal alien population. And, that doesn’t include operating costs, just building.

In some states, illegal aliens can even take discounted college educations away from U.S. citizens.

And you appear to have missed something in your haste to support illegal immigration: those corrupt companies that employ illegal aliens rely on all those social services that illegal aliens receive. Without that, they’d have to pay a higher effective rate.

In fact, illegal labor is hugely subsidized labor: the corrupt companies that profit of illegal labor get “cheap” labor and stick the rest of us with the bill.

Perhaps you should seek employment with one of those national associations whose members profit off illegal immigration.

I’ve seen the story a few times. And in each case, it talks about the problems we will soon face when there are more people retiring than there are qualified (experience level) to replace them. The math makes sense, even if you include the number of legal non-citizen residents. And if it the story is accurate, there seems to be a ‘worker’s market’ on the horizon, which you know must be freaking out the Corporate Capitalists that the competition for jobs will NOT be in their favor for paying lower salaries so that they may earn millions of dollars in bonuses and profits.

This could be an interesting scenario developing that could potentially lead to some serious reform of the pay structures we now see.

The issue has never been about illegals coming to America for a chance at a better life > the only reason the Corporate Elite allows them to enter the US is to exploit their cheap labor and therfore to keep wages low for everybody else! The American workforce cannot survive much longer with this massive influx of illegal labor undercutting the slim job market! The Mexican border has to be militarized to prevent millions more from crossing into the US and if Bush refuses to do it, then his so-called “War on Terrorism” is fraudulent, and it proves that he works for the “Corporate Elite” to destroy the American working class! Mexico must start employment opportunities for the population and not force them into the US out of desperation!

The scary thing about Fox News is that they do drive public opinion and perceptions, something I experienced recently in a discussion with a member of my family who doesn’t have access to any other news sources.

We have immigration laws. All we need is enforcement of existing law, secure borders, and opportunity for those who want to become citizens an easier means to do so.

Anything less makes immigrants criminals and exposes them to exploitation and blackmail.

The effort to muddy a real solution is being made by the same entities that seek to exploit the illegals willingness to work for wages and benefits that legal Americans cannot afford to live within.

The truth is, it’s the unemployed, underemployed, underpaid legal citizen that is creating the biggest drag on social services, particularly in rural areas.

The loss of work to illegals for less than adequate compensation drives down mean wages, benefits, and a legitimate worker’s bargaining power – and creates anger in legitimate American workers towards the illegals And now, our government for letting the situation get our of control.

Americans just want legal immigration and a secure border, creating further discourse between citizens and illegals is simply an effort to prolong a real solution that benefits the companies that exploit this cheap source of labor.

Start the enforcement with businesses, tighten-up the border, one-time amnesty for those already living and working in the country, and streamline the citizenship process. That’s all we ask.

Immigrants through there did NOT have to be sponsored. Please check facts before quoting them.

    Fresh from BusinessWeek:

“It could soon be high noon in Calhoun. The town of 13,000 tucked away in the northwest corner of Georgia has been reshaped during the past decade by a huge influx of Latinos. The big draw: jobs at Mohawk Industries Inc. (MHK ), the town’s largest employer. The $6.6 billion carpet maker employs 32,000 workers in all, 4,000 of them in Calhoun and surrounding Gordon County. Once staffed largely by whites, Mohawk today has a workforce made up substantially of immigrants from Mexico and other Latin American countries.(…)
Even as they await a ruling on Mohawk’s case, some in Calhoun are growing worried that an immigration crackdown, through the courts or Congress, could have a lasting effect on the town. With a dearth of workers in the region, Hispanics are crucial if the city’s No. 1 employer is going to keep production from moving elsewhere. Calhoun Mayor Jimmy Palmer boasts that Mohawk retained or added 900 jobs in Gordon County last year, in part because it could find new employees. ”
A Body Blow To Illegal Labor? Court rulings and legislation could change the game for companies such as Mohawk

That’s because I was only addressing your suggestion that illegal immigration does not benefit the US in any way. Fact is, it does, and the story about Calhoun is one example. Here is another one about the illegal immigrants’ contributions to the Social Security System. From your home town’s newspaper:

Last year, contributions by illegal immigrants made up about 10 percent of the Social Security surplus (…) People enter the country illegally, promptly procure bogus Social Security cards from the black market, and use them to get jobs. Eventually they get paid, and those earnings generate W-2s that go to the Social Security Administration, which tucks them away in something called the “earnings suspense file.” (…) According to the best estimates of the Social Security Administration, the fund has kept track over the last 20 years of more than $300 billion in total earnings – the vast majority of them attributable to illegal immigrants.
    Illegal immigrants and Social Security

The US is more than just San Diego. Of course your reply fails to acknowledge that -at least in this point- you are wrong… typical…

  104. mighty aphrodite says:

Here’s how illegal immigration benefits the US:

1.) Poor people working for low wages depress the job market for teens and other entry level employees. (
2.) Poor families crowd together in housing not suitable for the numbers they jam in.
3.) If an illegal immigrant father of four makes $10.00 per hour and takes home $1612.00 per month after working a bit of overtime and having 25% deducted for all taxes and insurance, THERE is NO way he pays for the education provided to his four children, their free lunches, their bus transportation, their inoculations at the free cllinic, or their original delivery at the hospital.

Don’t even get me started on the prison debacle here in CA.

    Comment by mighty aphrodite — March 30, 2006 @ 7:39 pm

I never said illegal immigration only has benefits for the US. Something has to be done about illegal immigration -there is no question about that.

My point is 1) illegal immigrants are not the evil people some would have them be, 2) there are powerful financial and economic incentives NOT to enforce the laws.

Illegal immigrants enter the US looking for jobs that businesses are more than happy to give them because illegals get paid less, as you pointed out. Sometimes businesses either turn a blind eye or actively engage smugglers (like Mohawk and Tyson Foods). The reason why illegals can get those jobs in the first place is because nobody in the government is really interested in enforcing the laws and fine businesses that hire illegal aliens.

To keep pointing fingers at illegal immigrants and demonising them will not solve the problem. Let’s demand laws be enforced. No business should be allowed to lobby their way out of complying with the law.

Do you want to pay more for strawberries (or have someone invent a strawberry picking machine) or do you want people living in caves near Salinas?

What’s interesting is all the “humanitarians” who can be found – such as Cardinal Mahoney – who act like similar cheap labor pimps.

115 says: To keep pointing fingers at illegal immigrants and demonising them will not solve the problem.

  118. Dan says:

We have the resources and the manpower to control illegal immigration, but internal politics discourage it. Certain segments of the population oppose to it. For example, Cuban American/residents would support the Cubans entering the US even without a legal basis. Hispanics or Mexican Americans oppose the construction of a more effective border wall, or tougher penalties, and the cutting of government funding to illegal immigrants. Politicians do not want to lose the votes, so we are left with this growing issue.

We often think Mexican illegals come here because of dire economic conditions back home. However, a recent study by the Pew Hispanic Center found that the vast majority of Mexican illegals said they come here not because they cannot find a job or cannot have a decent living in Mexico. They come here to follow a tradition or a dream and to have a better life. To live in America is a goal many people there hope for and aspired to.

Illegal immigrants typically take jobs most Americans won’t take and this is due to a lower pay, not the type of work. A cheap, abundant labor pool drives down the wage. City garbage collectors have good wages and Americans are willing to take the job. Americans do compete with illegal immigrants for certain jobs such as in constructions. Much of the revenues the Mexican immigrants make is sent back , revenues exceeding tourism and second only to oil in Mexico. No wonder the Mexican president is pushing the U.S. in support for illegal immigrants. They should wait in line like those who came here legally. I am an American citizen who came here as a legal immigrant, and I would not hinder efforts to control illegal immigration. By giving a large body of illegal immigrants a legal status, we are sending the wrong message. How do we ever hope uphold the law and control our border?

  119. Dan says:

We cannot stop illegal immigration, but we can control and minimized it. Back in the mid 80’s, illegal aliens is estimated to be about 4 millions. Our government tried to deal with this problem by issuing the Amnesty Program (later half of the 80’s) and then to secure the border. Millions of illegals got legalized, but the promise to secure the border was not done. Basically, the border was left the way it was. About 15 years later, we now have an estimated 12 millions illegals in the country. The actual number could be higher due to nature of undocumented immigrants. What has our government learned from all this? Probably nothing, or maybe those fat cats don’t really care. By giving Amnesty to illegals and not securing our border, we are sending the wrong message. Just a simple remark from Bush back in early 2003 about issuing guest work visas to illegals boosted illegal entries across the Mexican border within a few days. Politicians needs to speak tough on illegal immigration, not pandering them. We also need to understand that legalizing 1 illegal alien, he/she will bring 10 others (family, relatives, friends) legally and illegally into the country within 5 to 10 years. Now, think about issuing Amnesty options to the 12 million illegals that are here.

As far as controlling the border, there are several contributing ways (may not have listed all).

    1. Politicians needs to talk tough on illegal immigration instead of pandering.
    2. A difficult wall/obstacle set up at the high point of illegal entry such as near towns. Adequate border guards there to effectively patrol. The long border along the harsh deserts can be left “open”.
    3. Create border patrol posts at 100 miles (or less) intervals along the 2000 miles Mexican border, or 20 posts. Each post constantly patrol its 50 mile stretch in both directions in moving vehicles and with cameras and such along the border. Keep in mind crossing the open desert is very risky and expensive, and with constant patrol, far fewer will get through.
    4. Enforce/legislate punishment toward employers hiring illegals.
    5. Cut of government aids to illegals. Well, maybe not everything for humanitarian reasons.

There are other illegal immigrants from other countries as well. Along the Mexican border by far being the most serious. Illegal immigration cannot be stop, but it can be controlled. Instead of 2 millions entering a year, we have say 200,000. Illegal immigration has got out of control in the past 20 years. Politicians will not do much unless the voters speak out and demand actions. So far, the illegals and their supporters have spoken much louder.

We then monitor the ss# of all employees, and every 3 months 5-10 come back as “bad” (ie:fake). They are always Mexican. They are 99% of the time illegal and usually quit. just arrest the people riding bycycles and you will get most of them. you have to stop giving away stuff to people who do not have the right to be here.

  129. Lisa says:

What saddens me as being an american is that so many of us dont want to even work. We sit home, dont vote, blame the government for any shortcomings we may have and point the finger at other americans of different races if they prosper and we dont. Some of us dont want to do anything to better or even support our family’s, let alone our country, but the moment someone crosses our border to get better jobs, or food or to keep their family from starving in the other part of “America”, we want to start blaming them for our short comings. If we stood up and did the jobs offered, stopped supplying welfare to every young girl getting pregnant (black and white)and actually appreciate what we have, then maybe they wouldnt want to come here and work. There would be no jobs available. But us lazy americans dont see that. We could actually learn from them! They put their families first and will risk their lives to do so. Do We? Together both americas could be a superpower. Open your eyes they pay more taxes than some of us trying to get over, and they dont claim anything! Thats just more money our government pockets or sends to the middle east who doesn’t want anything from us anyway. This is a no brainer! PS..Im african american, but human first!
