Leading Neocon: ‘Biggest Lesson’ of War is the ‘Ingratitude of the Iraqis’

Neoconservative commentator Daniel Pipes was among the most fervent cheerleaders for the Iraq war. In essays and speeches, Pipes consistently predicted the “war in Iraq will lead to a reduction in terrorism” and the spread of regional democracy. (For this, Bush rewarded Pipes with a controversial recess appointment to the U.S. Institute for Peace.)

Now — three years, $300 billion, 2,300+ U.S. lives, and one anarchic civil war later — Pipes has learned an important lesson.

Q: What is the biggest lesson you have learned from the Iraq war?

A: The ingratitude of the Iraqis for the extraordinary favor we gave them — to release them from the bondage of Saddam Hussein’s tyranny. They have rapidly interpreted it as something they did and that we were incidental to it. They’ve more or less written us out of the picture.

To be fair, in Pipes’ world view, this does make some sense. Iraqis should be gracious for what’s happened in their country, since it’s been such a “success.”

Q: How will we know when the occupation or the invasion of Iraq was a success or a failure?

A: Oh, it was a success. We got rid of Saddam Hussein. Beyond that is icing.

Typical PNAC attitude–just get rid of Saddam, don’t bother helping the Iraqis.

This blockheaded neo-con needs to get his little pink ass over to Iraq right this instant and demand a thank you from those ingrates. The Iraqis wil be happy to bathe him in the blood of thousands of innocent women and children who he helped murder.

  9. Skeptic says:

Not Loony? Tell this stupid son of a gun to crawl back into his cave and stay there. Make him live for three years in a lawless anarcy without running water, electricity, medicine, schools, jobs and very little food and see how grateful he is for the opportunity.!

By the way what is a PNAC? Is it an intelligent life form?

  10. sledgehammer satire says:

If the goal was to prevent any possible WMD program from developing in Iraq then our “plan” has been a major success. The Iraqis can’t even form a government, let alone set into motion a WMD program. Pity about the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who have to die, though. Oh well. C’est la vie. Or, rather, c’est la mort.

Speaking of, we’ve also deregulated torture! No longer is Saddam a monopoly in that department. Free markets rule! I’m sure the Iraqis are enjoying their invisible handjob.

And small government folks can rejoice, too. Iraq is a libertarian paradise! Man, I wish I could live there instead of in this socialist nightmare we call the United States.

  11. kindness says:

Really now…This BOZO expects Iraqi’s to be grateful that we’ve bombed their country back to the middle ages, killed 50,000 to 100,000 of their fellow citizens….And they didn’t even have ANYTHING to do with 9/11!!!!

    Go figure.

  12. Badmoodman says:

What this man and those like him don’t understand is that we have made the world so much more unsafe then it was on September 12, 2001. We have given the Iraqi people thousands of reasons to hate us. We have let down the world. I can only hope that the Iraqis understand the difference between your average citizen (me) and this smuck named Daniel Pipes. I hope they understand that he never has nor never will speak for me. I don’t know how we are going to make it right with the Iraqi people. I don’t know how we can take the leadership role we once had on the world stage.

  21. MJ Durocher says:

Daniel Pipes must be removed from his “recess appointment” at the same time Bush et al are removed from office and prosecuted for war crimes, the same goes for Paul Wilfowitz at the World Bank and John Bolton at the UN.

It is quite obvious how delusioned the neocons are at this time. It must be awful to be constantly looking behind their backs to see if Fitzgerald is prying in their garbage….serves them right!

Impeach and imprison all….maybe we can keep them at Gitmo under the care of Fidel.

    LMFAO

  22. Rosencrantz says:

The US and even this idiotic neocon know the truth…and it isn’t the same as what they tell the public. The US is not interested in what is best for Iraq or the Iraqis. We are only interested in ourselves and wealthy US corporations.

The Iraqs know the truth. They have had one dictator replaced, which is good news…but the bad news is that they have been replaced by another dictator….the US. the US controls the government the elections and the military right now. How is that not a type of dictatorship? Nothing can happen without the Us’s permission no matter who the people elect. And even that is a problems because the US will not allow teh Iraqi people to elect anyone that will turn against the US forces.

So why should the Iraqis be greatful. As far as they are concerned they were invaded, bombed, a war was started in their front yard, thousands are dying in the crossfire and all so that they can vote an unknown number of times for a governmnet that the US has built anyway.

I don’t care what your political leanings are….if this happened to you would YOU be greatful?

  30. Tigris Lily says:

So the Iraqis should be grateful to us for destroying parts of their country, killing their women and children, terrorizing them with nighttime invasions into their homes with weapons, torturing them and making their countryside a recruiting haven for terrorists–all in the name of spreading democracy and all those other excuses we’ve been given for the war.

I especially like the one about “fighting the terrorists over there so we won’t have to fight them here”. Apparently, we neglected to ask the Iraqis permission to become our sacrificial lambs. And we wonder why they’re not grateful.

  37. Gregor Samsa says:

The words of Daniel Pipes echo those of the colonial powers of yore, who would decry the natives’ “ingratitude”: Somehow these natives would never thank the colonial powers for teaching them the ways of “civilisation”, and were always restless and war-like.

Then as now, the irony of judging the natives as uncivilised, ingrate, and war-like was lost on the agents of the empire who were busy invading, torturing, slaughtering the natives, razing their villages, and raping their women.

The US has gone from being a colony to being a coloniser. This is the hubris of empire, yet again.

    Neo-Cons: Downfall of western civilization?

The neo-con steadfast adherence to beliefs in the face of facts may indeed be our downfall. Consider, if one believes in the absolute regardless of facts, one can leap to any conclusion by way of justification. What is their logical end? Their great leaps of conclusion know no bounds; therefore they have no bounds to tie themselves to our current civilized discourse. So, again where is their logical end? Dismantling the constitution? Dismantling foreign sovereignty? Overriding treaties? Ignoring global warming? One must conclude that this movement wants the downfall of western civilization, if fact they want to hasten it.

This is typical of the Neo-Con Right Wingers. Blame the victims, the Iraqi People, for the mistakes of Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, and all the Neo-Con intellectuals who blew it. They will never admit to a mistake. Their global strategy of pre-emption is the failure. They were asleep at the wheel for 9/11. They have strengthened our biggest enemy in the middle east, Iran. Soon there will be one huge Oil producing alliance Iran/Iraq, which will be ruled by Islamic Theocracy. Well done Neo-Cons! You Fools!

This man is a malignant narcissist to such a degree that he might as well be a sociopath. These neocons are enamored with themselves and their over-valued ideas. They believe no one else’s life has any meaning. They feel entitled to try out their destructive and grandiose plans on other people, consequences and reality be damned. They never have to pay for their mistakes and the havoc they have wreaked. As a result of their policies, the lives of hundreds of thousands of people who did them no harm have been ruined. People like this should NEVER have power. They are incompetent, inept, dangerous ideologues. If they want to try out their ideas for society, they should all move to an island and do to each other what they have done to the Iraqis.

  60. gun toting liberal says:

    # 52

Right on, Lexie! The truth is that the Neo-Con movement is led by some very sick individuals with raging psychiatric “Axis II” disorders. They are all the spiritual offspring of Ronald Reagan, a psychologically damaged victim of childhood trauma who was incapable of personal insight or self-awareness, who externalized all difficult, painful, shameful or unwanted feelings into a mythical “other” – communism – and then set about proclaiming the Other to be the embodiment of evil in the world.

Not to be naive here. communism is a problematic form of government, not much fun to live under. But then, so is capitalism for most of the world. Is either “evil?”

His own official biographer got as deeply underneath his exterior as he could, found there was no “there” there, and had to fictionalize himself into Reagan’s life in order to even produce a book at all. More interesting is Reagan’s autobiography, “Where’s The Rest Of Me?”, published in 1963. Anybody out there read this? Pick it up. It gives a lot of unintended and undisguised raw material for the birth of the Neo-con mindset. No wonder it’s been suppressed since the 70’s!

Our beloved President is likewise a psychologically damaged man, traumatized in childhood. (If you don’t know what traumatized him, get thee to your local library and read “Fortunate Son.”) He is also pathologically incapable of an interior life. Remember when he was asked how 9/11 changed him? He responded that he didn’t know, didn’t think that way, and if you wanted to know how he was changed, “ask [his] wife.”

People like this cannot exist outside of a duality with a mythologized evil Other. McCarthy, Reagan, the John Birch Society, J. Edgar Hoover, Dick “Bang!” Cheney, Nixon, Wolfowitz… James Dobson… if paranoia were currency they’d all be even richer than their spoils of war have made them…

Thanks for your ear. It’s great to be able to comment here after months of limbo (thanks to Adaware free spyware for freeing me and my humble machine from frozen web pages!)

  61. Bluedog49 says:

  62. RMe says:

Let’s see…invade the country on the premise of claiming it houses nonexistent weaponry, impose a regime change on the peoples of a country without their request or approval (or without cultivating any modicum of internal revolution), fail to set up post-invasion security, block like-culture groups to assist in reconstruction (iun fact, fail to hire locals for the physical reconstruction), neglect to establish any democratic institutions and assume a group who have never self-governed will figure it out, un-employ over half the country, decimate the infrastructure, ignore and inadvertantly enflame socio-political infighting among the peoples…

yeah, dammit, how dare they not thank us…&%$in’ ingrates!

  63. justvisitingfromanotherplanet says:

How would Pipes feel if tanks were parked on his street, his house reduced to a shambles by missiles, family members and friends killed either by American missiles or in random shootings, with unreliable or non-existent electricity, potable water and sewer service, and no job. Unfortunately the world is more complicated than that, Pipey. The world isn’t all black and white, ya gotta engage the shades of gray. Ass.

  72. Manuel says:

We have to admit that he makes a very good point in that specific quote, no matter if you are on the left or on the right, as an american, people have to feel disgusted with the attitude of the Iraquis, BUT, the real reason of their rejection is that they don’t wanted the US to be there in the first place, so it’s up to the US goverment to answer why did it went to a war where the country to “liberate” really didn’t wanted to be liberated.

  76. KEVIN SCHMIDT, STERLING VA says:

The ingratitude is just the tip of the iceberg.

We allowed their museums to be looted of Iraq’s heritage, hospitals were destroyed, schools were destroyed, the electrical grid was destroyed, running water stopped. most businesses were destroyed, hundreds of thousands of homes were destroyed, just about all of the infrastructure was destroyed, innocent men, women and children were and still are being tortured, and over one hundred thousand innocent men women and children were slaughtered in Bush/Cheney’s illegal, immoral, imperialistic War OF Terror, so they could steal Iraq’s oil and steal U.S. tax dollars through fraud from no bid contracts illegally awarded to Halliburton and other war profiteers.

Ingratitude? We would be lucky if that’s all the Iraqis displayed toward us. The truth is, through our horrific actions, we have turned them into insurgents and terrorists. We have only ourselves to blame because, they learned how to be terrorists from us.

How in God’s name can any troll come in here and say that Bush lied to the American people in order to invade Iraq, but that’s — somehow — OK?

Why is lying under oath about being an adulterer an impeachable offense but the needless deaths of 2,551 coalition troops; at least 33,821 Iraqi civilians; and a continuous cost of NINE BILLION DOLLARS A MONTH; all based on a fraudlent representation of the facts to the citizens of my country, not cause for this whole fucking administration to be put on trial for WAR CRIMES?????????

  84. I-RIGHT-I says:

A: Oh, it was a success. We got rid of Saddam Hussein. Beyond that is icing.

Nonsense. Pipes knows better than anyone that Saddam was not the main course at this banquet, nor does he care what the Iraqis think or do or whether or not they have the good sense to be grateful. What you have here is a classic example of neocon (Jooooo) misdirection. Of course you dumbasses are eating it up again. But, as I’ve told you before “some people don’t deserve the truth”.

  85. Nova16 says:

I used to think that the affliction beleaguring the neocons was a fascist view of society and ultimate control of all the resources of the world. The comments by Laura Bush that they don’t appreciate us and the latest by Pipes of Iraqi ingratitude borders on neurotic paranoia. After turning the country of Iraq into a killing field and money pit centering on war mongering and profiteering, it is amazing that any rational person would come to the conclusion that they don’t “appreciate us” or they are guilty of “ingratitude”. If any semblance of a society with a future remains in Iraq, it will be a miracle. It appears that the neocons are tiring of the three(3)years of war, waste of billions of dollars, pervasive destruction, killings and murder and the failure of shock and awe and the mismanagement of a meaningless war. The neocons have now turned their inept and incompetent foreign policy debacle into a blame game on the Iraqii people who had no choice but to accept the stupidity of an invasion that has destroyed their country and lives. “Appreciation” and “gratitude” should never be used by neocons in any discussion related to the Iraqii people. The Iraqis have had enough of our good intentions.

  86. Willy says:

    I-Wrong-I,
Much of our outrage is directed at the continual lies told by the right wing, including those by Herr Pipes. Mostly we are mocking his ridiculous statement saying that the Iraqis are not grateful. You’re as stupid as Pipes for thinking we believe this horseshit.

  87. Nova16 says:

What ever the intent of dimwit Pipes to issue his diatribe relating to the Iraqis is left to interpretation of the reviewer. The only thing you can be sure of is that when a neocon says something either it is a lie or he receives some benefit from its utterance. Usually financial. If #85 has an interpretation and analysis of the real meaning of Pipes’ convoluted comments, enlighten us with your wisdom. If ignorance is bliss, ’tis folly to be wise.

  88. Sue says:

I have heard of this guy but didn’t know much about him! I HATE ALL PNAC PEOPLE,PEIROD! And he was pro-war and Bush appointed him to U.S. Institute for Peace? Typical of asshole,PURE EVIL BUSH! Typical Orwellian! Yeah boy, the Iraqi’s have LOTS to be grateful for, right? Let’s make notes, shall we. 1. Our purely evil gov’t brought Saddam to power, knowningly, that he was dictator but hey, they didn’t care and even Rummie had his picture taken with him and Reagan and Bush Sr. even gave him some bad chemicals but hey, he was U.S. puppet then! Then he got out of control, so then our gov’t STARVES millions of innocent Iraqi’s because of the dictator OUR GOV’T PUT IN POWER, right? Then the EVIL,WAR MONGERING ZIONISTS, and who AIPAC who is NO.1 lobbists, who runs America AND BUSH REGIME, BLAIR AND EVIL PNAC GROUP,desides to lie to take U.S. and Britain to war again because hey, neither Blair nor Bush’s kids nor relatives have to fight, nor PNAC group either, who sit back in U.S. on their fat cat asses war profiteering off our dead and injuried G.I’s and innocent foreigners too, while Bush regime uses our poor troops, like Hitler used his to invade countries, etc. while slaughtering 250,000 innocent people in Iraq, while STEALING THEIR OIL FOR U.S. OIL COMPANIES AND RIPPING THEM OFF OF MILLIONS, AND THIS EVIL BASTARD SAYS THEY ARE INGRATEFUL!? THIS PURELY EVIL BASTARD NEEDS TO HANGED FOR TREASON, WAR CRIMES AND WAR PROFITEERING AS DOES ALL GODDAMN PURELY EVIL PNAC GROUP! THEY ALL NEED TO BE HANGED FOR TREASON, WAR CRIMES AND WAR PROFITEERING AND NOW! THE WHOLE GODDAMN EVIL PNAC GROUP AND NOW! I HOPE THEY ALL ROT IN HELL! AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEND THEM THERE! THEY HAVE WRECKED SOO MANY LIVES WITH THEIR GODDAMN EVIL PNAC PLANS! AND STILL ARE! FUCK DANIEL PIPES AND THE WHOLE GODDAMN EVIL PNAC GROUP WHO NEEDS TO DIE HORRORIBLE DEATHS! This piece of shit says Iraqi’s are ungreatful? I want ALL PNAC group members to be HANGED FOR TREASON, WAR CRIMES AND WARPROFITEERING AND NOW, PURE EVIL BASTARDS!

  89. Sue says:

WHY isn’t my post showing up? It said it accepted it? I HATE PNAC GROUP! TOTALLY! And this guy along with rest of PURE EVIL PNAC GROUP needs to ROT IN HELL! THE HELL the U.S. and others put the people of Iraqi, I wouldn’t blame them if they hated us! I HATE PNAC NEO-CONS PERIOD! They ALL need to be hanged for treason, war crimes and warprofiteering too! AND GET A DAMN f*cKING clue, sheep! IT IS NOT INCOMPENTENCE BY Neo-cons BUT by design! They are NOT going to get off scott free on this crap by saying they were “incompetent” Incompetent my *ss! Everything they do is by design! PURE EVIL BASTARDS! But then it isn’t THEIR KIDS or relatives dying for lies, lies and more lies! And this PURE EVIL JERK says Iraqi’s are ungrateful!? After ALL the U.S. and Britain has done to them? I HATE PNAC NEO-CONS AND WANT THEM PUNISHED FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE AND NOW! Send them all to Gitmo but first put them in toxic water up to their armpits in N.O. with alligators and snakes, with NO water NO food and NO help and if they get out of that mess, then send them to Gitmo for torture and then hang them, if they survive all that, for all the misery they have caused millions of people! THEY ARE PURE EVIL AND NEED TO BE HANGED!

  90. Sue says:

Amen Lexie! Right on! But they are NOT, I REPEAT NOT, incompetent! They have accomplished what they set out to do! STEAL Iraq’s oil for U.S. oil companies and they are attempting to put in power another leader over Iraqi’s who will be a puppet to D.C. ! Like Greg Palast said Bush regime DID accomplish what they wanted in Iraq! Our G.I’s and innocent Iraqi’s be damned! The PURE EVIL PNAC GROUP, ALL OF THEM need to be taken to an island somewhere and done the above mentioned stuff to ALL of them and NOW! And as poetic justice, have U.S. troops arrest them for TREASON, WAR CRIMES AND WAR PROFITEERING AND THEN DO ABOVE TO THEM! AND NOW! This lousy, pure evil S.O.B’s plans can wreck people’s lives, kill innocent people they don’t even know and they GET AWAY WITH IT! I DON’T THINK SO, OVER MY DEAD BODY! I WANT F*CKING JUSTICE! And them saying their SORRY, our plans didn’t work bye is NOT gonna cut it! I want them HANGED AND WORSE! AND NOW, BEFORE THEY TOTALLY FINISH DESTROYING AMERICA FROM WITHIN OR BOMB MORE INNOCENT PEOPLE LIKE THOSE IN IRAN!

  91. Nova16 says:

Sue, nothing more to say–you’ve said it all. I “appreciate” your short essays and express my “gratitude”.

  92. Sue says:

What would be REAL poetic justice is for our U.S. troops to arrest these pure evil, aholes and first do above to them at N.O. like they did to our citizens on purpose in N.O. then torture them in Gitmo like they did that poor little 10 year old kid, who wasn’t guilty of nothing. then and ONLY after all that, take their asses over to Iraq with the bad flak jackets, that they purposedly give our troops and turn them loose and let not only Iraqi’s get ahold of them but have Iraqi’s joined by our U.S. troops over there too, BOTH get ahold of them! NOW THAT WOULD BE TRUE AND RIGHTEOUS JUSTICE!

  93. Sue says:

Nova16, Thanks! I am sorry I was soo long but I ramble sometimes when I am venting! Were you joking? Sorry about being sooo long! Just venting, my extreme frustrations at ALL this total INJUSTICES!

  94. Sue says:

No.9 Skeptic, PNAC stands for Project for New America Century! Who had plans to invade Iraq in year 2000, which includes the likes of Jeb Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz and Rummie among others! Their grand plan was to have MULTIPLE WARS OVER OIL AND NATURAL RESOURCES,and to basically run the world! Which Bush regime, Blair and others are STILL following that plan! Go here to read about them! They are PURE EVIL! PURE EVIL! It proves Bush, Blair had plans to invade Iraq long before Bush got into office! Which also helps prove Bush stole 1st election and also 2nd one too! Anyway, to get back to evil PNAC group. Here is link to it: http://www.newamericancentury.org/RebuildingAmericasDefenses.pdf, go to pages 26 and 63 and READ! In there you will read where they say having troops in Iraq “transcends” the Saddam regime! Meaning they had plans to invade Iraq whether Saddam was there or NOT! PLus on page 63, they talk of needing a “New Pearl Harbor” or their evil plans would go slower! What was 9-11 BUT THEIR NEW PEARL HARBOR? I TOTALLY BELIEVE BUSH,CHENEY, RUMMIE AND CONDI AND OTHERS IN OUR GOV’T WERE INVOLVED IN 9-11! But read it in their OWN words! This along with other memo’s proves Bush regime had plans to invade Iraq for OIL and other nations too whether Saddam was there or NOT! And it also helps prove they were involved and behind 9-11, too! Please people research 9-11, too! These same EVIL PNAC GROUP where behind 9-11! I would bet MY LIFE on it! Google Loose Change, 2nd Edition and also go to http://www.911truth.org and read! And join the 9-11 truth movement too!

  95. Sue says:

No.82, I don’t blame our troops! They are but pawns being used by EVIL COMMANDER IN THEIF! I do blame them if they don’t use their humanity to NOT slaughter innocent people, though, i.e. when they go on a killing spree! But they are being used by the U.S. Fueher, like Hitler used his troops! We MUST DEMAND and NOW ALL our troops home and NOW! And NO,NO MORE “multiple EVIL PNAC, unnecessary “pre-emptive wars, PERIOD! AND NOW! And NO war on Iran either! Hans Blix who was right about Iraq is saying Iran is 10years away from nukes! Stop letting Israel dictate U.S. foreign policy or the war profiteering aholes in W.H. and Congress, too, while our nation is destroyed from within and destroying other nations only to spread worldwide FASCISM!

  96. Jay Randal says:

All Neocons should either be arrested for war crimes or deported to Israel forever!

  97. GURU says:

  98. Martin says:

Don’t hold anything back, Sue! How do you really feel?

  99. thoughtcriminal says:

    Oh come on Sue;

The real deal with 9/11 is that the administration ignored the warnings and likely allowed the attacks to take place. There are two facts to look at: The August 6th PDB which wasn’t acted on, and the FBI field agent warnings which were also ignored by the administration. Yes, that does amount to criminal negligence and grounds for impeachement, all by itself.

The 9-11 truth movement you quote is just a government disinformation program designed to discredit the antiwar movement; bombs in the WTC? missles in the Pentagon? FLight 93 vanishing when it was actually shot down over PA by US jet fighters out of desperation?

Be calm, be rational, and let these bastards have it – but stay cool, you gotta stay cool. Otherwise, I fear you are just another government agent spreading disinformation.

Oh, and check out this video on Iraq:

    Welcome to the War Zone

Hey all you PR specialists working online: Go Straight to Hell!

Man, I wish I could highlight and delete my screw-ups as efficiently as the neo-cons can. Life must be peachy when you can never make mistakes.

Methinks some of the amateur psychoanalysis above is quite accurate.

  101. RAL says:

Perhaps we should murder another 150,000 Iraqi civilians and spray another few thousand tons of DU all over the place to help encourage that elusive gratitude impulse.

These people should be tried for war crimes, and publicly executed by beheading for their crimes against humanity.

See you at the Hague Mr Pipes.

Thank you for this post. I have been thinking a lot about dualistic thinking and how dangerous it is. Unfortunately it is how most people this. It is either one thing or the other, a simple choice. Reality doesn’t work that way. The natural world is full of endless variety. Anture lives in the grey zone and I believe our thinking should as well.

This is a little off topic but I seriously think that this is the huge difference between Conservatives and Progressive. Conservatives think dualistically and Progressives think in multiple possibilities.

  104. JG says:

If getting rid of Saddam was the measure of success and since Bush claimed that we were invading Iraq for a “regime change,” why have we continued to stay there as a miltary presence responsible for more and more deaths and injuries? We should have pulled out months ago and set up a reconstruction force to repair the damage that we did. Of course, “regime change” was only a cover for our real intentions – establishing permanent bases there and getting our hands on the oil. What a farce!

  107. DBernstein says:

#97 Jay Randaol wrote “All Neocons should either be arrested for war crimes or deported to Israel forever!”

As a freedom loving, partriotic, left-wing liberal New York Jew, I have to take strong issue with the casual bigotry of the above statement. You want to deport them to Israel because they’re all Jews? Do you even realize how racist your statement is, Jay?? You’re clearly implying that ‘all neocons’ are Jewish! And whats this ‘all neocons should be arrested’? ALL NEOCONS? Does that include the ones who haven’t committed a crime? So we’re arresting people for thought crimes, now?

This douche-bag (Pipes) can believe whatever he wants. If he commits a crime, lets convict his immoral ass. But this is STILL America, and real Americans don’t advocate arresting people simply for what they think, no matter how stupid it is.

Pipes is obviously nuts and I hope he was involved in actually committing a crime in his work for the Bush gang, because it would be great to see a genocide-loving maniac like him in jail.

But seriously Jay, and everyone else: THINK.

  108. jericho says:

Hahahaha, that dude’s funny. Iraqi’s should be glad the US made their country a hotbed for terrorist activity? Iraqi’s should be glad their country was invaded for fraudulent reasons? I know what they want me to say: Iraqi’s should be glad they are freed from Saddam Hoessein, the evil dictator. Ok, maybe. But soon they’ll be under the dictatorship of the majority in the vote… When you look at the US, that’s not a bright foresight. Iraqi’s could end up with an absolut idiot at the helm of their ‘democracy’. In a democracy the majority or most people decide what goals a country should aim for. But if you ask me, I think, if there’s one group who shouldn’t decide what goals a country aims for…it’s most people.

  109. History Head says:

Let us not forget that post-Gulf War we incited the southern shiites to rise up and that we would support them. After the insurrection started, we blithely refused the promised support and Saddam planted 20,000 of them in mass graves. To add insult to injury we were also instrumental in imposing and enforcing sanctions that killed 500,000 Iraqi children over 10 years.

Moreover, we can never forget the cozy relationship we had with Saddam during the Iraq/Iran war, and that our government sanctioned the sale of WMD technologies to Saddam during the same period.

Lastly, when one understands the muslim culture’s long memory of history and inherent pridefulness, their reaction to our occupation/wholesale of their nation is a bit easier to comprehend.

Best of luck in the coming storm. If you don’t own a gun, get one soon.

  110. Claire L. Heron says:

Sadam did a better job of running his country than we are doing. Sadam was a bad hombre but other sheiks and Middle Eastern leaders are worse, we don’t bother them, they play ball with us. Sadam wouldn’t, therefore Iraq and it’s people got out wrath. Iraqis hate us and there is NO GRATITUDE to get a worse life than you had before.

  111. hawkeye says:

This country is getting scary. People like this idiot are turning the US into something that is far from the ideals America was built upon. Hitler would have loved this guy.

  112. Solitaire says:

I agree with Sue. If we could chase down each neo-con that had a role in this Irag War drum-beating and hang them high, it would make this country safer than if we chased down every member of the Bath party in Iraq and tortured them to death.

Not that I could personally place the noose around their necks. Ah, there’s the rub.
Will no one rid us of these meddlesome Neo-cons?

  113. Shirley says:

There are even some Iraqis who say that it was better with Saddam….at least
they had water and electrity…Now they only get it for a few hours a day. Can anyone
imagine that…? We will never be a success , because Saddam might have been
    better than being without.

Just another example as to why you should be neutered.

  115. FreeDem says:

For a year after the invasion any questioning of the Chimpadent got an automatic response “would you really prefer Saddam still in power? No matter how bad things are at the moment it will be better without him a year from now”

Now even some Neocons are realizing that their fantasy of a Vermont in Iraq is probably not going to happen, and while not a good thing, Saddam was not the worst of possibilities.

Maybe enough of them will realize the fantasy of their other Ideas as well. I only hope there is enough of a world left to care. Our greatgrandchildren will still be suffering even if the stupidity stopped today.

I agree with pipes. THiese turd worlders need to say thankyou. Just because they are wretched murderers doesn’t mean they should not atleast thank American armed forces for the sacrifice they have gone through to allow them some hope. The sad fact is these camel jockeys like repression & intolerance. They like living under despots. This is why they do not thank us.

  118. Bruxa says:

OH, Thanks for the Tanks, Mr Pipes

  119. Chris says:

Thankful for what? Replacing one fascist regime with another? Imposed democracy is imposition all the same, and there is nothing remotely democratic or redeeming about what America has done to Iraq and/or itself: its era is over.

  120. MattyCee says:

This imbecile, along with his overlord Preznit Cheney and the entire Shrub administration are perfect illustrations of the true banality of evil.
