VIDEO: Bush Event Goes Off Script

This morning in Charlotte, a Bush PR event on the war on terror went off-script when a man named Harry Taylor took the microphone. Watch the video:

“‘I feel like despite your rhetoric, that compassion and common sense have been left far behind during your administration,’ Taylor said, standing in a balcony seat and looking down at Bush on stage. ‘And I would hope from time to time that you have the humility and grace to be ashamed of yourself.’”

Harry Taylor

    Read below for the full exchange:

    Q You never stop talking about freedom, and I appreciate that. But while I listen to you talk about freedom, I see you assert your right to tap my telephone, to arrest me and hold me without charges, to try to preclude me from breathing clean air and drinking clean water and eating safe food. If I were a woman, you’d like to restrict my opportunity to make a choice and decision about whether I can abort a pregnancy on my own behalf. You are –

    THE PRESIDENT: I’m not your favorite guy. Go ahead. (Laughter and applause.) Go on, what’s your question?

    Q Okay, I don’t have a question. What I wanted to say to you is that I — in my lifetime, I have never felt more ashamed of, nor more frightened by my leadership in Washington, including the presidency, by the Senate, and –

    AUDIENCE MEMBERS: Booo!

    THE PRESIDENT: No, wait a sec — let him speak.

    Q And I would hope — I feel like despite your rhetoric, that compassion and common sense have been left far behind during your administration, and I would hope from time to time that you have the humility and the grace to be ashamed of yourself inside yourself. And I also want to say I really appreciate the courtesy of allowing me to speak what I’m saying to you right now. That is part of what this country is about.

    THE PRESIDENT: It is, yes. (Applause.)

    Q And I know that this doesn’t come welcome to most of the people in this room, but I do appreciate that.

    THE PRESIDENT: Appreciate –

    Q I don’t have a question, but I just wanted to make that comment to you.

    THE PRESIDENT: I appreciate it, thank you. Let me –

    Q Can I ask a question?

    THE PRESIDENT: I’m going to start off with what you first said, if you don’t mind, you said that I tap your phones — I think that’s what you said. You tapped your phone — I tapped your phones. Yes. No, that’s right. Yes, no, let me finish.

    I’d like to describe that decision I made about protecting this country. You can come to whatever conclusion you want. The conclusion is I’m not going to apologize for what I did on the terrorist surveillance program, and I’ll tell you why. We were accused in Washington, D.C. of not connecting the dots, that we didn’t do everything we could to protect you or others from the attack. And so I called in the people responsible for helping to protect the American people and the homeland. I said, is there anything more we could do.

    And there — out of this national — NSA came the recommendation that it would make sense for us to listen to a call outside the country, inside the country from al Qaeda or suspected al Qaeda in order to have real-time information from which to possibly prevent an attack. I thought that made sense, so long as it was constitutional. Now, you may not agree with the constitutional assessment given to me by lawyers — and we’ve got plenty of them in Washington — but they made this assessment that it was constitutional for me to make that decision.

    I then, sir, took that decision to members of the United States Congress from both political parties and briefed them on the decision that was made in order to protect the American people. And so members of both parties, both chambers, were fully aware of a program intended to know whether or not al Qaeda was calling in or calling out of the country. It seems like — to make sense, if we’re at war, we ought to be using tools necessary within the Constitution, on a very limited basis, a program that’s reviewed constantly to protect us.

    Now, you and I have a different — of agreement on what is needed to be protected. But you said, would I apologize for that? The answer — answer is, absolutely not. (Applause.)

    1. Florida Mom Says:

      I don't know who Harry Taylor is but right now he is my hero.

    2. pete Says:

      Once again, Mr. Bush proves he is not listening. Mr. Taylor hoped that the President would feel ashamed, not that he would aplogize.

    3. dumbstruck Says:

      Good ol' North Carolina straight talk.

      I hope Bush never sets foot in my home state again.

      Yes, Harry Taylor is a hero.

    4. Ajay Says:

      I wonder who these people are who were booing Harry Taylor. These guys have no shame or respect for laws. Its all about party politics.

    5. dumbstruck Says:

      I'll bet Harry gets audited by the IRS.

    6. Preznit Pinhead Says:

      Bush has no way of experiencing shame. Sociopaths never do. As far as he's concerned, he's never made a mistake--nor will he ever make one. It's always somebody else's fault. Accountability is a completely alien concept to the spoiled brat that is our king.

    7. Jules Says:

      This man is a great man. North Carolina is now my favorite state!

    8. Philly guy Says:

      The scary thing is, poor harry was booed.

    9. Badmoodman Says:

      ...and then Harry Taylor disappeared from the face of the earth and was never seen again.

    10. Unholy Moses Says:

      In other news, a man from Charlotte, N.C., was recently arrested and sent to GITMO. No other details were released ...

    11. Aaron Says:

      oh man is there VIDEO fo this?????

    12. Gregor Samsa Says:

      Uh oh, someone made it past the screening process and background checks...

      The only reason why Pres Bush can have open Q&A sessions is because his minions make sure the audience is filled with loyal Bush followers, and wouldn't dare ask a challenging question.

      Maybe Mr. Taylor is a disgruntled (former) Republican?

    13. Robert Crowley Says:

      How can we find this man Harry Taylor, I want to take him out for one hell of a dinner and in fact many times. I wish I had the opportunity to ask the false President these kind of questions.

    14. dlet Says:

      Bravo, Mr. Taylor...well said.

    15. Zookeeper Says:

      Harry Taylor, you are a great man. Your phone will be tapped from this day forward, you do realize that, don't you? Keep speaking up!

      Can we find out who and where this guy is? I want to send him flowers.

    16. lib4 Says:

      I love how the media who NEVER EVER EVER EVER said a word about his SCRIPTED events.....now think its newsworthy to go on and on about his "unscrpited" events...

      gee thanks Bush....you actually take one or two questions from non-ringers in the audience now.....

      way to show that great leadership the Rethugs go on about....

      CHUMP in Chief.....

    17. Pat Says:

      Draft Harry Taylor for President!

    18. unbelievable Says:

      Maybe Mr. Taylor is a disgruntled (former) Republican?

      Comment by Gregor Samsa — April 6, 2006 @ 2:38 pm

      I would hope there would have been more of those by now...

      I mean, wouldn't we stand up to crooked and corrupt Democrats? We do bash them when they cross the line, I'd like to think we'd do more if they really got out of hand like this. So, where are all the real conservatives? Aside from perhaps, Mr. Taylor. Kudos to him for his willingness to call The King on the carpet.

    19. Quisp Says:

      Harry's the man. He should have thrown "Miserable Failure" in there for good measure.

    20. RunningDogLackey Says:

      "Dear Mr. Taylor:

      The Vice President of the United States Richard B. Cheney requests the pleasure of your company at an impromptu sunset quail hunt.

      "Casual dress suggested. A spouse-surrogate will be provided. BYOB.

      "RSVP with blood-type and HMO provider number."

      "Casual dress suggested. A spouse-surrogate will be provided. BYOB.

      "RSVP with blood-type and HMO provider number."

    22. Zookeeper Says:

      I'm thinking Harry Taylor must have been a registered Repub, otherwise how would he have gotten in? They say these speeches are "unscripted," but I'm pretty sure they are not "unscreened."

    23. e_five Says:

      I wonder what will become of Mr. Taylor. I'd expect an IRS audit, wiretapping, pressure on his employers to fire him, a trumped up terrorism charge, a trip to Gitmo, torture, and eventual death at the hands of a giggling Dick Cheney. That's how these people operate.

    24. Gerald Gibson Says:

      /CHEER

      No guts no glory... call him out to his face... let them booo in their guilt!

    25. Ajay Says:

      Did you see the the woman on the right side of Harry? She is booing him. Amazing picture for her family. Good for her kids: " I was booing someone who was calling a crook by his name. I am so smart. God bless America."

    26. unbelievable Says:

      Most of Bush's response sounded scripted. It's not like him to say more than four or five words without a stumble over his words or a series of stutters...

    27. Zookeeper Says:

      Just saw that awsome picture. Get a look at the three women on the left side of the picture. Scandalized!

    28. Desi Says:

      I don't believe that this was an unplanned 'event' -- I know exactly how difficult it is to be part of a Bush audience for exactly this reason. He does not take any questions/comments that aren't scripted. Call me cynical, I'm just sayin'.

    29. Vance Says:

      Mr. Taylor deserves a medal and the woman in the photo next to him should be clubbed to near death.

    30. crazy canuck Says:

      Good for him for speaking up. I have nothing but respect for that guy.

      She looks like a blow up doll...

    32. Wisco Says:

      Man, do the people in the audience ever look annoyed. You'd think they didn't know that most people have a problem with Bush.

      Crazy.

    33. JIMBO Says:

      Two great people from North Carolina: Harry Taylor and my Mom. :)

    34. Southwest Bob Says:

      This is how it starts...regular "normal" people stand up and ask the hard questions and make their dissatisfaction of prez bush known directly to him. His response was interesting...and he continues the lie of having "briefed members of congress." In reality, select members of congress were informed and admonished not to say anything about it. Additionally, he neglects -still- to admit that post tapping permission is possible. What he doesn't say is that his requests were being rejected at a high rate than any other administation.

    35. Chase Says:

      Wonder how many people ask Kennedy is he is ashamed for killing Mary Jo Kopeckne?

    36. JIMBO Says:

      Those ladies probably want a taste of Dubya's juice.

    37. katy Says:

      AUTHENTIC 'Muchos Huevos Grandes" !!!
      ... the RESPECTABLE kind!

    38. Jules Says:

      This man should run for office.

    39. JIMBO Says:

      #20 P.S. Don't forget to bring a hunting vest. Preferably in orange. Besides, Mr. Cheney won't know the difference between a human and a quail unless you have an orange vest on. :)

    40. yellodog Says:

      It should be obvious that these "impromptu" question and answer sessions are screened and scripted. If this were truly a non-partisan crowd, logic would dictate that the number of favorable / unfavorable questions from the crowd members chosen at random would approximate the popularity numbers of the president. While I agree with the sentiments of Mr. Taylor, I would prefer to see any personal issues about the president left out of the questions, as it gives his supporters something to rally around and allows the questioner to be dismissed as partisan.

    41. Desi Says:

      "Wonder how many people ask Kennedy is he is ashamed for killing Mary Jo Kopeckne?"

      Wonder how many ask Laura Bush is she ashamed for running down and killing her old boyfriend? Wonder how many ask Dick Cheney is he ashamed he shot his lawyer in the face?Wonder how many ask George Bush is he ashamed that an FBI agent asked over 70+ times for a warrant to gain access to the computer of one of the 9/11 terrorists and was denied right up until 9/10/01?

    42. Scott Says:

      I'm surprised those mindless Bush followers didn't all start pointing at Harry and start screaming...you know, just like at the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

    43. Jules Says:

      Jimbo that's not very nice - he couldn't tell the difference because he had his hunting glasses on!

    44. Preznit Pinhead Says:

      When I look at Bush's response, it does seem to be a case of "scripted dissent". It sure looks like a setup. It was a lead up opportunity for him to wax poetically about his spying on U.S. citizens.

    45. joe cantwell Says:

      please post any link to can find to a video of this brave man's courageous act. harry taylor is a real american hero!

    46. Desi Says:

      I had to quit at 3 questions when I realized I could go on all day there. All y'all will have to pick up any slack. Irritates me to no end when some twit shows up with crap about Kennedy from decades ago, after spending his entire life in service to the people of his state, and our nation. Go ahead and ask him if he's sorry, and get over it. jeebus.

    47. SiriusA Says:

      Not only did Taylor stand and deliver, but he did so eloquently and respectfully, even voicing appreciation of the fact that the President allowed him to say his peace. This is a fine example of protest. No slander, no name calling, no rhetoric -- just one man's opinion, beautifully stated. I will be curious how the right criticizes Mr. Taylor's statement.

    48. GSD Says:

      Wonder how many people ask Kennedy is he is ashamed for killing Mary Jo Kopeckne?

      Comment by Chase — April 6, 2006 @ 2:58 pm

      Nothing like 30 year old news from apologists for Bush. I bet Chase is also a "Christian" who believes in forgiveness..forgiveness for everyone who is a Republican.

      Same old tired shit. The same people who say that the Democrats should "move on" from talking about Dick Cheney when he shotgunned a 78 year old man in the face with his elite $23,000.00 Italian shotgun while on a hunting and drinking trip with two younger women who were not his wife.

      They say these speeches are “unscripted,” but I’m pretty sure they are not “unscreened.”
      Comment by Zookeeper — April 6, 2006 @ 2:51 pm

      This is what has been said about Bush's "open" events:

      The White House sends advance teams of handlers to all Bush events to screen audience members and reporters for loyalty to the president and his policies. They eject possible “troublemakers” who might disrupt their contrived public forum.
      Stifling Dissent in the Media

      The unceremonious ouster of three people from a recent White House Social Security event in Colorado has critics wondering how far President Bush will go to ensure friendly, sympathetic audiences at his town hall-style forums and rallies.
      Screening Tactics at Bush Events Questioned

      You can bet your life this event was screened too.

      I am sure Mr. Taylor must be a registered Republican.

    51. JW Says:

      Did anyone count how many times Bush lied in that reply? He didn't fully brief members ofboth parties, for one. ITMFA!

    52. wisedup Says:

      Dem Leaders take note: 'This is what a person with balls is like', now let's see some from you. START IMPEACHMENT!

      'Giv'em Hell Harry'.....

    53. Alan Says:

      I love the decision in the transcription to highlight the booing -- which from the audio I heard isn't even all that prominent. Every other gesture of the crowd is (laughter) or (applause), but this is made especially prominent, with exclamation point and everything:

      AUDIENCE MEMBERS: Booo!

      Harry deserves a medal. I only wish he had called Bush out for interrupting a courageous, heartfelt question with a jokey aside -- "I'm not your favorite person." What a jerk.

    54. fingerbo Says:

      Harry Taylor is to be commended for not only the courage of his convictions, his passion, the fact that he's way more articulate than Bush, but also for having giant balls. He's no doubt been put on some awful list. Anyway, definitely the man of the hour.

    55. Jules Says:

      Desi - I know of what you speak. If all they can come up with is something horrible that happend in a persons life about 50 years ago - well how sad is that.

      Especially after all this administration has done in an attempt to destroy this country!

    56. Ajay Says:

      WTF is relevance here? What is wrong with people like you? Anti-abortion, lord jesus, God bless America, lefties are bad, Clinton, blah...blah. No rational thought what so ever. Do you guys even go to a real school? Even a high school? I am surprised you can type or even understand any communication other than from Lord Jesus.

    57. Gerald Gibson Says:

      I would like to see someone ask him about what effect (precident) on the future of America he thinks his violations of the Constitution, the violations of US voters (remember the democrats in Nevada that were signed up to vote by undercover republicans then their signups were thrown in the trash? What ever happened to that FBI investigation?), signing statements that declare a president can ignore laws from congress, lowering Americans morals against torture of HUMAN BEINGS, unAmerican unilateral WAR, injection of religion into everything from the government to law enforcement to the military to science (NASA), etc etc etc are going to have?

      I would like to see someone ask him if he knows about how ROME lost its senate? Its representation of the people..without which there IS NO AMERICA...

    58. Ben Says:

      Does anyone else notice how Bush always makes jokes in difficult situations? Every single time a tough question is asked, he tries to laugh it off.

    59. Drew Mackenzie Says:

      "But you said, would I apologize for that? The answer -- answer is, absolutely not."

      Predictably sad. Even moreso is what follows:

    63. Tom Says:

      Bush should have been reminded that he placed his hand on the bible to defend the Constitution, rather than putting his hand on the Constitution to defend the bible.

    64. DrSinker Says:

      ROCK ON, MY BROTHER HARRY, ROCK ON!!!

    65. Marie Says:

      Poor Harry - he has earned admiration from us here at TP, but he will probably never be able to take a plane anywhere, his taxes will be audited every year, his mail will be examined, and there will be an unmarked van parked near his house from now on, with technicians listening to his phone, checking his Email and maybe looking in the windows when Harry isn't home.

    66. Spudge_Boy Says:

      Bush should have been reminded that he placed his hand on the bible to defend the Constitution, rather than putting his hand on the Constitution to defend the bible.

      Tom,

      Do you mind if I plagerize that everyday from here until Bush gets impeached?

    67. Jaded Prole Says:

      Not true, we have our own local hero named Tom Palumbo who confronted the chimp in Norfolk. He was tossed out after demanding that Bush show the decency of resigning but though I'm sure he's closely watched, he flies regularly and got a good job with AFSCME as an organizer.

      It takes Guts to stand up but it's worth it and not as dangerous as you think.

    68. Shannon Says:

      I noticed in Bush's response that he never addressed the other issues Harry brought up such as the enviroment, food safety, and women's right to choose. Just stay on that one trick pony...er uh National Security issues.

    69. JP Says:

      D'oh! Putting Bush on the spot.. expecting a thoughtful response. Cute!

    70. Pete Bogs Says:

      a picture is worth a thousand words, and this one is a classic... that woman with the rose can't believe what she's hearing... the woman to her right is a pissed-off Bushie... the woman further back with her legs crossed doesn't necessarily disagree with the guy, but is whispering to her companion, "How long do you think it'll be before the Secret Service tosses this guy out?"

      Bush's day of reckoning has been put off far too long... it's good to see some of the crap finally getting through and hitting him in the face...

    71. Gerald Gibson Says:

      There will be a COLD streak going down the spines of many people in this country when the republicans are out of power... They will realize what asses they have been this past few years and not feel "comfortable" in their puckered lemon faced egotistical shoes... they will know they have given a great many people reason to HATE them... and now those people are in charge... they better hope that it only goes to prosecutions and not flat out revenge... because the neocons have set the stage for a formally illegal (preBush) backlash that could range in everything from putting extremist left judges to extreme taxes to constitutional amendments that destroy whatever dreams they may have once had.

    72. Pete Bogs Says:

      on second thought, maybe the lady with the rose is just whistlin' Dixie, or practicing for a presidential BJ... we could use one of those to bring the guy down about now...

    73. Shannon Says:

      I live in Charlotte and here's how the local paper covered it.

    74. MrBlueSky Says:

      Amen to that, Mr. Taylor! You said it all!

      (Except that I didn't like Mr. Bush's response!)

    75. Spudge_Boy Says:

      Is the chick next to Harry looking up at a telprompter flashing "Boooo, Boooo, Boooo," so the sheep know what they are supposed to be doing for their leader?

    76. Paul in LA Says:

      This kind of grassroots harassment is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered.

      Don't worry about it -- this shit rattles Bush's cage like a MAD BABOON.

      His hand was shaking at his desk later, when he reached for his rolled up Andrew Jackson.

      Bush Must Resign.

    77. Southwest Bob Says:

      Given the reactions of those seated around Harry, the obvious conclusion is that this was a "hand picked" GOP group. I'm certain everyone around Harry is concerned if they will be cuffed and hauled off to Gitmo for being in the same general area as Harry.

    78. blogenfreude Says:

      His phone is SO tapped ...

    79. JIMBO Says:

      #40

      Mr. Taylor's bravery should be commended, not criticized for not following along with the program. There have been too many so-called town meetings in which the questions for Dubya had been prescreened and/or written by his media people. We are at a critical moment in time in which the right-wingers have declared war on the American public and are taking away our freedoms and rights while giving them to another country across the sea.

      We have every right to speak out. If the Democrats won't speak out enough for us then we'll have to do it ourselves. We can no longer shut up and take it. If the wingnuts want to be disrespectful and taunt us at every level, by God, we should do the same.

      During the Civil War, Gen. Sherman once declared that War is all Hell." His purpose was to bring that hell to the confederacy. Since the Confederates started the war, it took those who suffered the first blows to successfully fight back within four years. Like Sherman, us progressives have the ability and gumption to fight back and make the GOP sick of vicious attacks that they would wait several generations before they would even think of doing smear campaigns ever again.

      Thank God there are a lot of Harry Taylors in the world. Including us. (Trolls not included)

    80. LC Liberal Says:

      "Mr. Taylor was then promptly tackled by multiple Secret Service agents, handcuffed, and sent to Gitmo."
      How'd Harry even get in to the place. Maybe he wore a Bush T-shirt or something. Way to go Harry!

Clearly people overthere just love to kill and expect Repulicans to carry this out. Of course the fact they feel close to Jesus gives them special right. Why not let these bible/slave states to ceced and let them have a Jesusland.

    82. trblmkr Says:

      Simple question for Bush:
      Sir, if Saddam Hussein claimed constitutional authority as a 'unitary executive' for what he did to his own people, all in the name of 'national securityduring a time of war', wouldn't we have to let him go?

    83. Michael Carlucci Says:

      I couldn’t have feel more elation and swelling, unbridled pride during those moments when Mr. Taylor made his comments...Yes, pride! I felt complete pride in a man I don't even know! I felt the same way when Helen Thomas posed her questions at the press conference on March 21st!

      Now, the big question is; what happened to Harry Taylor after the event? I'd be extremely interested in hearing ANY news concerning that! As a matter of fact, I would be curious about his well-being in the weeks to come.

      Gregor, I sure hope so. :)

    85. s Says:

      I agree with Yellowdog above. This is still a hand picked audience. The script is probably this.........let a few people ask tough questions but make sure most of the audience is right wing so that when the person does speak, he/she is booed down. This leaves the impression that the event is not scripted, and that "more" people are in favor of Bush...... the booing. When in fact, they are only allowing the dissenter questions to be able to knock them down within the theater/scam of a fair event. And someone else also said a good thing. Why has the press accepted and not reported in the past about how scripted Bush events have been instead of now spin as positive that events are now "not" scripted? Of course, though, they still are scripted. To watch the event this post refers to, again, one would think that the majority is in favor of Bush. This is false. It is maddening, angering and downright evil. I hope the American people keep waking up.

      http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/04/06/bush.ap/index.html

      CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (AP) -- President Bush defended the government's eavesdropping program Thursday and said he would not apologize for monitoring the phone and e-mail conversations of Americans talking to people with suspected al Qaeda links.

      A man who identified himself as Harry Taylor rose at a forum here to tell Bush that he's never felt more ashamed of the leadership of his country.

      He said Bush has asserted his right to tap phone calls without a warrant, to arrest people and hold them without charges and to revoke a woman's right to an abortion, among other things.

      He was booed by the audience, but Bush interrupted and urged the audience to let Taylor finish.

      "I feel like despite your rhetoric, that compassion and common sense have been left far behind during your administration," Taylor said, standing in a balcony seat and looking down at Bush on stage. "And I would hope from time to time that you have the humility and grace to be ashamed of yourself."

      Please re-read my post. I'm not criticizing Mr. Taylor. My main point is that I have serious doubts that these question and answer sessions are unscripted and unscreened. The ratio of negative / positive questions would logically be higher than they are given the current approval rating of the president. If you look at the question in #83 (good one by the way) than you see that you can question Bush on his actions without making it appear that you are attacking him personally. Mr. Taylor telling Bush he should be ashamed of himself is too easy for the noise machines out there to spin. I can see the lead on AM radios now - "Liberals say Bush should be ashamed of himself". Which will lead to "Libs should be ashamed of McKinney punching a cop".

      As a progressive in central Texas, I see anything critical of the administration get spun back into an attack on the messenger. Its maddening to see positives turned into negatives, but it happens all the time.

Remember when that guy from Fox gave out an address of a supposed "terrorist"? That was bad. An innocent family was terrorized by psychos that believed that guy's story. Bush supporters think they are 'defending' the President. Nothing could be further from the truth. They are scared to believe that the President is the bad guy, and they were on his side.

    125. Krazny Says:

      I think when you have invested as much into Bush as his supporters have, to admit that he is not the prophet you thought he was hurts them to much. They may start doubting everything else. It is better for them to listen to Rush and Bill, and not think to hard.

      Mighty Moron-dite:

      You're wrong about the briefings on the illegal wiretaps. And so is Chimpy.

      Several members of Congress say the briefing they got was totally inadequate, and at least one of them objected to the program..in writing.

      And yes, the US would be a better place if you blew your brains out.

      You can put your head back up your ass where it belongs, Moron-dite.

    161. Spudge_Boy Says:

      Tom - The committee leaders from both parties were briefed. A mind is such a terrible thing to waste…

      Yes, and whether they agreed with it or not, they were gagged, so they couldn't bring it out into public view. Jay Rockafeller wrote a letter to Cheney stating that he didn't think it was legal.

      Do you mean those committee leaders mighty aphrodite?

    162. Tom3 Says:

      More for Moron-Dite,

      I am generally tolerant of most people.

      But it is not intolerant to be against fascism.

      You are a fascist. And a traitor.

      To quote Cheney, Go Fuck Yourself.

    163. Liberal Texas Democrat Says:

      I hope Mr. Taylor's wife doesn't work for the CIA. This administration has already demonstrated it hasn't the cajounes to go mano-mano, It doesn't go for the jugular .. it goes for the wife.

    164. Ryan Neat Says:

      "****Tom you sound like a most intoleRANT person; you do not value diversity - you are a PERFECT prog!!!!! Congratulations!!!! Comment by mighty moron"

      Your intolerance of PROGs, and your RANT is just the latest in the long line of HYPOCRISY from you. How was that cloudy/cold day at the beach? Did you discuss the ACLU case that never happened, with your fake husband and children that don't exist?

      For someone who claims to be toleRANT, you sure do hate PROGS saying anything you and your Nazi friends disagree with. Fascista...

      And while your focusing on toleRANT behavior, you might want to take a grammar lesson or two. You write like a 3rd grader.

    165. Ryan Neat Says:

      "Mr. Taylor, you haven’t been arrested - although in your circles, that would certainly be a feather in your cap. Quit talking to Al Qaeda and the NSA won’t listen. Mighty Moron"

      Can you PROVE that? Is that like how the Pentagon is listening in on PEACE activists on the TERRORIST WATCH LIST?

      Sure, whatever you say mighty moron. You make a perfect brownshirt, your 'jewish grandpa' (probably as fake as the rest of your identity) would be proud of your Nazi behavior.

      GOT THAT?

      A: He's got balls!

    168. Bush Bites Says:

      Ah, you know, Bush just regurgitated his talking points.

      He told members of both parties (that he was going to violate FISA...thereby breaking the law), then told them they'd be breaking the law if they told anyone else.

      That's not working with Congress.

      That's building an alibi.

      Yes W there is something you could do. Read the god damned daily reports from your advisors Twit

    172. Dormammu Says:

      Sorry to disappoint the Bushista lovers, but you are in the minority now. Stand downs on 9/11, dollar collapsing, two disastrous wars, lying about war in Iraq, wire tapping vegetarians and Quakers, indicted Republicans as far as the eye can see, the USA is hated around the world, Pentagon losing a trillion dollars, Allowing several members of the Bin Laden family to leave the country just days after 9/11, some of them without being questioned by the FBI, outing CIA agent, endorses outsourcing of work, tax cuts for rich, greater media consolidation, gutting clean air standards, cutting energy efficient standards, making gays second class citizens, and wanting women to lose right to choose. Of course, they are hundreds of more blunders by the worse president this country has ever had.

      To the Corporatist/Fundamentalist goons that still support him, and use the stale phrases like "You lefties hate America" or "Tin Foil Hat", your days are numbered

      She only believes what Chrissy Matthews, Brit Hume, Rita(Throaty McHuskington)Cosby, O'Lielly and the rest of the facist media tell us. She probably hates Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert and the imcomparable Mr. Keith Olbermann for telling the truth.

      I recognize and admire this in Cindy Sheehan - honesty is hard to "knock off balance" even when being grilled with stupidity and inuendo by the Paula Zahns, etc.

      Having said that, this does not preclude the fact that the Truth is the most dangerous message in the world; ask King, ask Gandhi, Lennon - hell, ask Cindy Sheehan !

Blair was taking heat and having to face some tough questions, and Bush was getting blowjobs metaphorically speaking of course.

      Ryan,

      Interesting point. Someone in another forum brought up the term 'neo-liberal' in context to the far, far, far right wing of the Republican Party. I'd only really ever heard Noam Chomsky and his contemporaries use the word before. But it is fitting, that like the 'neo' brands of any ideology, they are actually so far extreme in their own party that they become a bastardization of the opposite end of the spectrum. Anyway, my point is that the extremists in teh Republican party have become so extreme that the actual conservatives are having enough of them, and they are starting to cut them loose. And in the process, this must scare the extremists (or neo-liberals) out of their minds. They see the end of the run for themselves, and they are just lashing out with anything that they can.

      People used to be upset by the troll accusations, but now, they seem to find them amusing and pathetic. I think taht's a really good sign that there is change in the air. To hopefully, something more moderate and sane.

      The way the splicing is done makes it seem like Bush goes directly from "I'm not going to apologize for what I did on the terrorist surveillance program," to "if we're at war, we ought to use the tools..."

      The whole middle part is missing. That's the part I wanted to see. The part where he strays off message. The part where Karl Rove is whispering urgently in his earpiece, "Get on message, dammit!"

    204. Nova16 Says:

      Bush in his anxiety filled reply to Mr. Taylor gave good reasons for wire tapping. He very adroitly and rightly said it was his incompetence, ineptness and failure prior to and during the attack on the towers in NY and the Pentagon that necessitates NSA wiretappings, the legality of which is still undetermined. The applause that Bush received from his "base" in North Carolina still indicates that some people are still easily duped and deceived into believing that this dolt is capable of managing anything but the worst foreign policy in the history of the country and the bankruptcy of the nation.

      According to the Associated Press, Congressman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI,) started the hearing off on a confrontational note by asking, "How can we discharge our oversight if, every time we ask a pointed question, we're told the program is classified?" Hey CHeney Loves Wolfie.......There's more

      He hates leaks, but Bush authorized one: documents

      Last Updated Thu, 06 Apr 2006 16:19:19 EDT

      CBC News

      U.S. President George Bush, who has denounced government leaks, authorized a White House official to leak U.S. intelligence about Iraqi weapons while he sought to persuade the world to support an invasion, court documents suggest.

      The documents surfaced Thursday in the perjury case against Lewis (Scooter) Libby, former chief of staff to Vice-President Dick Cheney.

      Former White House aide Lewis Libby. (File photo)
      Libby is accused of lying to the FBI about a leak in which a columnist was told that a woman whose husband criticized Bush's war plan was a CIA operative. It can be a crime under U.S. law to reveal the identity of an intelligence agent, although Libby is not charged with that offence.

      The documents, filed by prosecutors in that case, say Libby told a grand jury that Bush and Cheney cleared him to leak information during the run-up to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

      Reporting from Washington, CBC News reporter Henry Champ summarizes Libby's testimony as follows:

      "He says that he was told directly by Cheney that the president has authorized this, that the information was sensitive, yes, but not classified and not secret and so therefore it wasn't a crime."

      This reasoning comes out of "an administration that has always said there'll be no leakers here," Champ says. "'If anybody leaks, the president has often said, 'I'll fire them.'"

      At the time, Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair were pushing the idea that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, meaning weapons of nuclear, chemical or germ warfare. No such weapons have been found.

      The CIA operative, Valerie Plame, was outed by a right-leaning newspaper columnist soon after her husband, a former diplomat, took a public stand against the claim that Saddam had been trying to buy uranium in the West African republic of Niger.

      The new documents say nothing about Libby's role in leaking Plame's identity, although he is accused of passing the information to at least one reporter.

Last Sunday I attended an event where the 3 nuns sentenced to federal prison for pouring their own blood and banging with hammers on the lid to a nuke silo were in town for a probation hearing. They expressed the grace and strength of serious sacrifice. On 6/5 as part of the No Blood for Oil 12 I will probably be found guilty in my contribution in shutting down a recruitment center in 11/05 in Lakewood Colorado. I will pay no fine, as a disabled vet (1972)and if I prevent one person from enlisting, I have performed my community service. I will go to jail with the knowledge that without personal sacrifice I cannot say not in my name. This man's courage is much greater than mine because of his visability, but he knew, even with doubt that it had to be done. But we do do take stands that require sacrifice for others. 273. mighty aphrodite Says:

      Some things can be foretold:
      "How Long Do We Have?

      About the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:

      "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist
      as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to
      exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves
      generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the
      majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most
      benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every
      democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is
      always followed by a dictatorship."

      "The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the
      beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200
      years, these nations always progressed through the following
      sequence:

      1. >From bondage to spiritual faith;
      2. >From spiritual faith to great courage;
      3. >From courage to liberty;
      4. >From liberty to abundance;
      5. >From abundance to complacency;
      6. >From complacency to apathy;
      7. >From apathy to dependence;
      8. >From dependence back into bondage "
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul,
      Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:
      1. Population of counties won by: Gore: 127 million; Bush: 143
      million;
      2. Square miles of land won by: Gore: 580,000; Bush: 2,427,000;
      3. States won by: Gore: 19 Bush: 29
      4. Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Gore: 13.2
      Bush: 2.1
      Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the tax-paying citizens of this great country. Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements living off government welfare."
      Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency & apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some 40 percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase."
      This system of Athenian Democracy remained remarkably stable, and with a few brief interruptions remained in place for more than 500 years, until Roman times - far longer than any modern democracy has yet survived.
      Why did Athens fall? Because Rome consumed them, not because Democracy failed.
      I'm not surprised that you're anti-democratic - it's typical of Fascists, that are really throwbacks to Monarchists.
      You're such a FOOL...
      This system of Athenian Democracy remained remarkably stable, and with a few brief interruptions remained in place for more than 500 years, until Roman times - far longer than any modern democracy has yet survived.
      It was far from a true democracy. Assholes like you without credentials or lineage didn't get to vote. I approve. By the way...they didn't think much of homosexuals either. Just thought you should know.
    281. sparafucilli Says:
      Too bad that a debate didn't ensue over the NSA stuff. I can't imagine that the founding fathers ever envisaged that "lawyers!?" opinions would be used by a POTUS to justify violating the constitution in principle if not in fact. But George (little god) Bush doesn't really care about principles nor is he very caring that most Americans do. Now basic rights of privacy will have to be made bomb-proof because the FISA bullet proofing failed (albeit with the help of a 3 ring republican circus). I wonder how future presidents will appreciate that when they truly need some flexibility but find it requiring a constitutional amendment to obtain. Hats off to George for providing a pleasant variation to the old refrain "Let George Do It".
      Funny, I thought you didn't want to give illegal aliens the right to vote, are you saying that we aren't a democracy either because we don't let foreigners vote? Athens allowed all men of athenian birth to vote, no matter their 'status'. Only slaves and foreigners who weren't athenian were exempted.
      All democracies have 'eligibility' requirements, and ours has evolved to be more lenient in the last 2000 years. But Athens WAS a true democracy - something a RETARD like you probably didn't learn at 'home school'. I know that knowledge isn't something that a CONservative can recognize as 'evolving', but then again you don't believe in 'evolution' in any sense of the matter do you.
      I've said it before, I'll say it again, as crackers go, you're as dumb as a sack of rocks.
      And by the way, the point mighty moron was making was NOT about democracies, it was about EMPIRES. Reading comprehension - who needs it when you're stupid, right MizzWrong?
      That pretty much sums her up.
      My cousin was a cop. A good one too. On 9/11 he lost friends in the tower collapse. She is so disrespectful to suggest we don't value what police and fire fighters and Emergency Rescue people do for our country. My guess is that she is the one who insults the police whenever she gets a chance. Considering how much she's in court (not as an attorney of course :)
    290. Marie Says:
      PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS MESSAGE AND SPREAD THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THE 5 LINKS FAR AND WIDE - This is a labor of love offered with the greatest possible respect and honor for the Truth; plain and simple; free from politics, labels or agendas. No one could overstate the urgency - YOU MUST consider this information. Believe it or don't believe it but DO NOT ignore it. The reason will become evident as YOU EXPLORE the 5 links listed below and then link into the vast wealth of available information sources- You'll soon turn OFF the TV !
      Jeepers fellas, can’t we all just get along?
      Seriously; I again maintain that the Truth, though a dangerous message, is best served up respectfully.
      Simply put, screaming about something I believe passionately and/or smothering a message by dragging in angry references to "tin foil hats" or other personal insults
      JUST DOESN'T WORK !!
      People get so turned off by the hostility of the messenger that it really doesn't matter what is being said - I become immediately ineffective as a credible source as soon as I allow the tone to become emotional rather than rational.
      So, allow me to rationally share a couple of links that, I guarantee, will prove enlightening, interesting and informative regarding the Bush Administration and all the heatedly contested points discussed here.
      With all due respect to Kenny and others, this information is verifiable point by point and seems to be coming to the surface as we speak.
      THERE WAS NO GREATER CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY than the horrible deaths of 300 fire fighters who went up into those f**king towers to rescue others - I still well up at the thought of that.
      And we each OWE it to them and to the concept of self governance to carefully, calmly examine this information AND give it proper, reasonably objective consideration.
      Because, friends - the most horrifying possibility about this information is that it could well be true. Many have believed and cultivated these bits of information for 5 years and have become social outcasts because we seek the Truth.
      No one should say another word about these matters unless and until they have examined and considered this growing volume of evidence and contradictions in a serious rational manner.
      Please do so.
      Peace - for Christ's sake !
      The operative clause: :"...inside the country from al Qaeda or suspected al Qaeda". OK Let's scenario this. On the way into a restaurant I accidently bump into a "suspected al Qaeda". Our vigilant Home Security Agent tracking the "suspect" sees this and (you can't be too cautious) adds me to the list and hands me off to his sidekick. While dining I make innocent, but suspicious, eye contact with some other diner who our intrepid sidekick, you guessed it, adds to the list. Back at headquarters the wiretap nurds zoom in on our emails, phones, IM's and all that jazz and link to whoever we've contacted and to our contact's contact's, ad nauseum. 2x2x2x2.....etc. Pretty soon all the USA are on the "suspect" list. Of course with foresight this scenario has been anticipated and the head NSA nurd has telescoped the whole process by assuming we are all suspect. Bravo George. It's 1984+. And it's all legit as per the constitution. YOUR lawyers have said so. We are so relieved. Sieg Heil!
I’ll re-enact the Treason and Sedition Law of 1919 and prosecute it with tremendous zeal a vigor and I’ll do it without divesting myself of my shares of ACME Hemp & RazorWire, LTD."
      But you're NOT President, you never will be President, and the ChickenHawk in Chief doesn't even know you exist, nor does Dear Leader Fuckwit care in the least about lackeys & drones like yourself, unless you give him a nice big campaign contribution
      Bet you wouldn't spout off in that same whiney, spoiled brat style outside the Green Zone in Baghdad, then again, blathering bullies like yourself ALWAYS back down in the physical presence of others
      Kind of sad & pathetic that the greatest claim for the trolls here is their unquestioning obediance & lackeydom of the biggest political whore who ever spread his legs as President
      The ONLY unpatriotic idiots & traitors are those who approve of Dear Leader W's constant rape of the US Constitution, and those who view the 1st Amendment as a suggestion instead of a right, this group is made up of nothing but elitist, ivory tower, moral-relativists who condemn others for the same things they cheer with the incompetent hack clearly struggling in a job far beyond his natural abilities & mentality to manage effectively & efficiently, President Jr
      You willfully ignorant W lackeys really need to start thinking for yourselves for a change, but obviously, the comfort of letting others do the mental heavy-lifting called logic & abstract thought is far too much of a security blanky to abandon now
      Deal with reality W apologists/lackeys/sheeple
      The Connecticut Cowboy will never, NEVER get the US Public on his side again, especially since it's now obvious to one and all that keeping the public safe is nothing but Administrative rhetoric of the most hollow kind
      The ONLY things this Administration excels at are rewarding campaign contributors & cronies while putting the US public at greater danger-through it's deliberate decisions-of another terrorist attack
      Must suck for sure to back a religious fanatic like W with MORE innocent blood on his soul than his ideological, multimillionaire brother in arms, Usama bin Laden
      All that smug gloating & taunting of us libs on election night 2004 sure seems like just a distant memory for the W lackeys, as President Jr spent all that supposed "Political Capital" quicker than a horny sailor on shore leave who picks up the first toothless, skanky whore he sees waiting on the dock
      So guess what W trolls/lackeys/sheeple?
      All the gloating us libs threw in your faces about that racist plagiariast Ben Domenech being shown up & ruined publicly, and about Tom DeLay's whiney resignation from Congress are just the beginning
      There's going to be LOTS more gloating from us libs-and many more "wailing & gnashing of teeth" hissy fits from the W lackeys/sheeple-leading up to the November elections, as the GOP woes are only going to intensify now that there are more opportunities to pit the GOP base against each other than there will be opportunities for the GOP base to rally around Dear Leader W
      The more you fucktard W Lackeys/sheeple bray & squeal, the more you prove the above points, so flame away and prove me right
I hate to say it but Karl Rove staged this event, including having the guy putting George supposedly on the spot! If Bush was really asked something spontaneous, then he would turn red in the face and act confused! We will most likely find out that Harry Taylor is a paid shill > if not, then he needs to be interviewed by the press to find out about his background! Also if his comments were unscripted, then the GOP would smear the guy bigtime, but I do not really see this happening, so a con game?
    336. Eyeball Kid Says:
      What was really instructive on the video clip (Crooks and Liars) was Bush's posturing while Taylor phrased his comments and questions. Bush has this incredible arrogance and haughtiness that all smart alecks use to assert their dominance. It's a series of rapid head and torso movements that are similar to simian displays of dominance. He shows vehement disdain for the questioner. He has no use for Taylor, and nonverbally expresses a desire to eliminate Taylor from the surface of the earth.
      And this is only one taxpayer. And taxpayers, we may recall, are the people who are paying Bush to do his job. And it shows that Bush really has no idea what his job is, and who his constituents are. He seems to believe that he can intimidate everyone into submission.
      The man is dangerous. His behavior shows why he hasn't been governing, and he can't govern. He's simply too far removed from a reality. His decisions are always based upon who shows him deference. He is not a president of all the people. He's a president who lives on favors, on intimidation, and on constant political calculations. There is no moral fiber, no sense of propriety, no overarching moral imperatives. It's all about dominance.
      That's who's the chief executive. That's who will do anything to maintain his fantasy as "leader" of the nation. If we get out of this second term without incurring more catastrophic damage, we'll be incredibly lucky.
I see this same fault in Democrats who refuse to see their leader's evil doings (to borrow a phrase), but this is worse, because the administration is so wrong, and so criminal. I'd have to believe that a Democrat would lose his own party's support if he were as bad as Bush, so why do Republicans circle the wagons? This will permanently scar the party. We were accused in Washington, D.C. of not connecting the dots, that we didn’t do everything we could to protect you or others from the attack.       What was really instructive on the video clip (Crooks and Liars) was Bush’s posturing while Taylor phrased his comments and questions. Bush has this incredible arrogance and haughtiness that all smart alecks use to assert their dominance. It’s a series of rapid head and torso movements that are similar to simian displays of dominance. He shows vehement disdain for the questioner. He has no use for Taylor, and nonverbally expresses a desire to eliminate Taylor from the surface of the earth.
      Taylor is the creep and anyone looking at that video would notice HIS arrogance and HIS nonverbal desire to kill Bush. Just like all the Left Wing Fucktards on this site.
      What I saw in Bush was body language and expressions that indicated that Bush wanted to bitch slap that pussy. It's the natural and correct reaction from any MAN that gets verbally assaulted by a faggot. In fact the lady next to him thought about it too. My guess is that Taylor does get bitch slapped from total strangers about sixteen times this weekend. I hope that gets on tape and makes the news too.
      Most young women today are quite aware of Roe v Wade. It means they can fuck around all they want and never learn what it means to have a virtue or become responsible. It also means that thanks to the pill the birth rates of the kind of people that made this country great are dropping. And they know what "civil rights" means too. It means it's now the law that other people have to pay for the special rights bestowed upon minorities and that nothing is the fault of the minority because no matter what happens they are the victim.       IRI=woman hater. I just don't know why. I have been screwed over by a man and I don't hate them all. Of course, I do love my father and was never molested and felt I had a voice in my childhood. Hmmm, maybe that's it?
      All I know is we need to start raising our children a bit better; look what could happen when people have children for the wrong reasons. IRI has been either molested, beaten or severly neglected to hate women so much.
      It is just like serial killers. They always had mothers who were in some way sexual with them. If not molestation, then they were prostitutes and the young boys had to watch. Or they brought home many men for one thing or another.
      It seems that very early sexualization in children, brought on by a parental figure, will almost certainly cause the tendancies that IRI, Aphro and NeD display. They are extremely and negatively sexually charged as adults who hate that about themselves. They, of course, act out by going to the extreme opposite. Unfortunately, their issues allow them to feel it is fine to judge others. Religion actually plays no part in their life. It is just a front they use to continually bury their own feelings. They are always trying to "kill" their early offender.
      So, in a way, I feel sorry for people that have had such difficult childhoods but the fact that the only way to overcome it is to MAKE others be what they wished their mother had been. See, IRI, you are to be pitied, but after the pity, you must take responsibility for your hatred of women. You can overcome it, I'm certain. But denial will make it worse. You have to come clean and be honest with yourself. It is not all women's fault that you were mistreated by one.
      Excuse me, but you have no room to talk here, lover boy.
      As long as religiontells women that they are inferior, they will continue to act in inferior ways. Wanna get rid of most abortions? Stop telling women that it's their role to be semen recepticles. Even you say you believe that Eve was Adams 'bestfriend' and not 'helper' as the Bible calls her. Do you not see the correlation between expectation and behavior? If you expect someone to be bad (including yourself), you will get bad actions. And when you expect women to be submissive and subservient as your religion expecvts, then don't wonder why there is such a high rate of abortion.
      And before you tell me to go get you a beer, thinking it's an insult, you should know that I have no problem getting you a beer if you have no problem washing my car on occasion. My sense of identity is not tied to doing something nice for a man. And I didn't feel that way as a Christian in the organized religion sense. It wasn't until I gave up institutionalized religion that I appreciated the differences between men and women, instead of lamenting them. And understood that if giving you a beer makes you happy, my life, in the long run will be much happier as well. My mother was a smart woman. Did not get enough credit by her generation who wanted to villify her for keeping her marriage together through compromise instead of accusation. Perhaps why my father, a seriously playboy in his youth, never once had an affair. Just something to think about (or choke on :) while I go do some laundry...
Here’s the transcript from Think Progress (video available there too): Q You never stop talking about freedom, and I appreciate that. But while I listen to you talk about freedom, I see you assert your right to tap my telephone, to arrest me and hold me without charges, to try to preclude me from breathing clean air and drinking clean water and eating safe food. If I were a woman, you’d like to restrict my opportunity to make a choice and decision about whether I can abort a pregnancy on my own behalf. You are – [...]
      Right on Harry. If more people would tell the President how they really feel inside maybe some change would take place. Bush obviously does not listen and is surrounded by people who tell him what he wants to hear. We are in a terrible situation in this country and it is only getting worse. Thanks Harry for having the courage to say it straight to his face.
I would even go so far as to say that he coul dcome out and give a press conference saying "yess every charge you have heard leveled against me is true" and you would still support him 100% rather than looking at what he does and see how un American he truely is.
      Get this through your thick skull too...the presidents job is not to protect the American people, it is to safe guard the constitution and ensure that it is followed. To not follow the constitution is to betray his office and the American people.
    417. Entertained Says:
      This entire discussion is very amusing, reinforcing the original Federalist assumptions of why "the people" should be included at all in any political discussion, for very few, if any, of you understand the 2 party black and white rhetoric that forces us all into insignificant screaming matches that reinforce the status quo. If anything, this website, just as this video, reinforce the idea that there are only 2 parties, and self identifying with either one begs screaming at the other, while those that identify with some fringe segment of politics (libertarians, fascists, etc) are marginalized into a third world of insiginifcance. (I would add neoconservatives, but this label again implies some sort of necessary opposition to "neoliberals"; additionally, and frighteningly, a fair amount of them hold fairly high positions of power in the Republican party although much is still to be said about whether the rest of the party will go along with the Ralph Reed-led perversion of the party). From deep within academia, the point is that very little in the way of actual change will ever happen without the provisions for the creation of third, fourth, and fifith parties. Maybe then we can add a little gray to the black and white divisions we so militantly enforce.
      Now, you may continue with the party politics, aspire to material wealth, and act as pawns for the military-industrial complex. Let the screaming matches and insignificant gains and losses resume.
      For your information, that was sort of how my parents did it. He would wash her car or something she didn't like doing, and she would bring him a beer while he watched football so he didn't have to get up. Simple, but it kept the peace. They didn't 'keep score'. The point was mutual consideration.
      The consensus around here is that she isn't really a she, but a gay man who has imagined a family and career. Her bio doesn't add up. She says she's 34,but that's supposed to include, college, law school, four children, a decade in the military, and time invested in a career to be able to run her own business.
      I don't know, I think she exaggerates a lot of things to compensate for small breasts or a big nose or one of those physical features neocon men like to ridicule.
      Meg,
      She's anti-abortion. Claims her fourth child was an ooops, but they sucked it up and had the baby.
      I haven't seen her use the words baby-killer or anything that drastic. Perhaps because she was raised Catholic, and although the Catholic Church is anti-abortion, a lot of Catholics are Pro-Choice (Bible says that life begins with breath, after all).
      Personally, I don't know why anyone would need to take more than 8 weeks to know that they wanted to have an abortion. At some point, it does become a conscious life and then, well, it makes it harder for me to sympathize. But, I also don't believe I should have a say in that decision for another woman. I believethat if we raised women in this country to feel liek partners to men, instead of servants, women would be less inclined to put themselves in that situation. 'Cause we know that men sure can't control tehmselves (learned that in senior biology in high school. Teacher said that because a woman is only fertile once a month, men always have to be 'on guard' :)
      UNBELIEVABLE..... i agree wholeheartedly. that is why the morning after pill issue really perplexes me. i too do not believe abortion should become just another way of contraception. more the reason why american and really all women of the world deserve safe and effective birth control. but i see the bush administration has cut-off funding contraceptive efforts by the World Health Organization and has kept the morning after pill away from american women. so what does that say to us as women? that men in power are the ones who decide for us. nothing has changed in thousands of years!
      The reality, however uncomfortable, is that US presidents are selected and controlled by the financial elite of this world. Republican and Democrat serve the same master. Terrorism is simply the bogeyman de jour. The real enemy are those who control the shadow government, the media, and the corrupt politicians and businessmen who are part of it. The battle of the mind - who and what to believe - is far more important than illegal phone taps. The problem is the majority of American citizens refuse to believe thier government has been, and continues to lie to them. In short, the battle of the mind has been won by the government. Everything else is bullcrap.
      Asking the president to be ashamed doesnt really count.
      And why not? since it was obviously planned and practiced.
      so that means I have to consider that maybe it was
      not so much just Harry venting
      as a slow lob of a Rove planned softball that
    474. Zookeeper Says:
      #480 - rob, are you spending all your time watching Fox and surfing Redstate? Too much time? They could move in IMMEDIATELY to start listening, and then get the warrant 3 days later. How much faster do you want? Georgie didn't consult Constitutional lawyers, he consulted his staff lawyers, and since they live half-way up his ass, they said it was peachy-keen. More power to Georgie to catch those bad boys, but it better be legal.
    475. Flygrrl Says:
      If I remember correctly from my U.S. history class, the last time a man named George tried to act like a king and impose intolerable restrictions and onerous tax burdens on the people of this land we had a military conflict over those issues. Wasn't that the American War for Independence? No King John's for the United Kingdom and no more George's for U.S. President either. If the rallying cry of our forebears was " No taxation without representation." Then the new slogan should be, "No domestic spying of citizens without legal oversight."or "Whatever happened to checks and balances?"
    476. Eva Pat Says:
      THANK YOU HARRY!!!! You have inspired the rest of us who agree with you wholeheartedly.
    477. brick is the new glass Says:
      Well, it’s nice to see
      but
      I didn’t see Harry actually ask any meaningful or specific question!
      On any of the issues he raised.
      Asking the president to be ashamed doesn’t really count.
      And why not? since it was obviously planned and practiced.
      so that means I have to consider that maybe it was
      not so much just Harry venting
      as a slow lob of a Rove planned softball that
      a preemptive strike at the issue of Bush not facing the tough questions.
      intended to rally the base and show those” no-idea having libruls” for what they are.
      Yep the more I look at that transcript
      the more it looks like a fake fight, so to speak.
      Real or not the effect is the same
      Harry didn’t land a single punch.
      So I hope he feels good
      because he accomplished nothing other than
      looking like a neocons stereotype of a liberal
    478. Dan D. Gutierrez Says:
      Mr. Taylor had the guts to say what a growing number of Americans think. Contrary to the picture Mr. Bush paints, American is now a one party system of government, with a single branch. There are no more checks and balances that we learned about in school. Everything is controled by the Republican party and a small group of religious zealots, and it is for that reason that we see Presidential powers increasing to a level unseen in this country before. Yes, Mr. Taylor, say the truth because more Americans need to hear it.
      Whether he asked any "meaningful or specific question" is beside the point. He saw, and took, the opportunity to give voice to a sentiment that is coarsing through many people's American veins. We need more Mr. Taylors at republican press parties.
      I am conservative and republican ... just not brain dead or iposing my values onto another woman's uterus or other countries. Three years ago I said Iraq was Vietnam with sand and a mistake. I am deeply disturbed by the direction the Republican Party has taken and find myself voting for (and supporting) Democratic candidates. I haven't left the party, it has left me. Not all Republicans are {fill in the blan}; Not all Democrats are : {fill in the blank}. Individual (or In-duh-viduals as dogbert says) politicians should be evaluated and judged by their actions and inactions. I am ashamed that the president of the United States is a twit. I am scared that the VP of the United States is the power behind the war and throne. If they won't, I will apologize. I will apololgize for the actions and incompetence of King George of Texas if he won't. I am appalled by his arrogance and obstinancy. The character Forrest Gump put it best: "Stupid is as Stupid Does". The way George governs, goes off script, balances the busget and runs the wars he starts, is profoundly stupid! If we get the government we deserve we had better start doing a better job of getting out the vote and wresting control from MY PARTY.
    488. susan Says:
      Harry is absolutely right to be ashamed of his government.
      According to a Harvard economist the $$ spent on the Iraq War would have kept Social Security solvent for 75 years. Millions of dollars in CASH have vanished in Iraq and contractors are paid for buildings shoddily built at best, not built at alll at worst. And NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT!! These are our tax dollars, folks. BTW, this info was gleaned from a Republican inspector's report from Iraq.
      For those arguing about the "clean air and water" comment, I'd advise a trip to the Union of Concerned Scientists site. Not only are companies allowed to pollute more, fines are not collected from the law breakers!
      The leader of our nation touts No Child Left Behind and his record in TX as Governor (the state was 48th in education "during his watch"), then stands before television cameras announcing "If you're a C student, maybe someday you'll be president." Talk about a mixed message, "let's test the kids to death, but education doesn't matter anyways." The leader of the only super power in the world celebrating mediocrity.
      I would ask Rob how he thinks the government knows which lines to tap. If they are tapping the lines of known terrorists, wouldn't it make more sense to arrest them for terrorism, thus removing the US connection? I would also ask if Rob was in favor of carpet bombing Montana after if was discovered that Oklahoma City was attacked by US terrorists. If not, why not? Why wasn't the state government removed? After all, they harbored terrorists. Does Rob realize that if his hero was in charge during the Oklahoma City attack we would most likely be at war with Iran right now? Fortunately for us, that administration took the time to think before it reacted. They were ready to go to Iran until the US connection was discovered. Does Rob feel that if in 1776 the European nations floated a few tons of explosives to plant in US homes in order to convince the colonists that democracy was the way to go, it would have been a successful venture?
      On Sept 12, 2001, one million Iraqi citizens marched in Baghdad mourning the loss of life in America. These are the same people who suffered 13 years of US sanctions including medical equipment, supplies, and medicines. For 13 years these people stood helplessly by while their children and loved ones died of curable diseases because our government wanted to hurt their government. Those same people marched in honor of our fallen. How do we repay them? By bombing them into submission and bringing them democracy on the tip of a sword. (Of course, the media only reported the small crowds of US haters burning our flag and laughing derisively - after all, would we support war if we had seen them carrying candles and singing songs of sorrow for us? )
      I wonder what would have happened if, instead of war, we had reversed the sanctions and offered rewards for info on terrorists? Would the US then be seen as a more compassionate nation? Would Iraqi citizens stop to think, perhaps the US is not so evil? Would they then look upon their own government and find it lacking? Might they have, in their own time, fought for an Iraqi democracy? Just something to think about.
      For a moment, indulge a brief what if? What if the KKK (for example) started attacking African or Jewish buildings around the world. What would we think if suddenly Israeli, African, or European fighter planes started dropping bombs on our cities? Would we stand by and say, "Yes, they have a point, those attacks were wrong." or would we retaliate in order to save ourselves even though we did not agree with the KKK?
      My point? This administration has lied and endangered our nation for years to come by prefering to attack whole nations in order to eliminate relatively small groups of wrongdoers.
      It has wrongfully treated those serving and dying for their country by refusing to list names or show returning caskets. And the ultimate disgrace was it's treatment of Pat Tillman and his family. To use a young man's death to glorify and verify it's decision to go to war, to allow the military to destroy his clothes and other incriminating effects before sending him home wrapped only in a lie is abominable!
      Of course, if you think like the administration does, it makes perfect sense. If a young man or woman who joins the military as a means to an education, dies on the field of combat, he or she is called a "troop"; is nameless. If, in our money fixated minds, we see a well known young man who could have made millions; lived the ultimate American Dream, forgo that dream to serve his country believing what he was told to be true, it's a different matter altogether. For that young man to die at the hands of fellow soldiers; a victim of the fog of war would have been the ultimate embarrassment for the government. At a time when more Americans questioned the decision to go to war, this tragic waste of a human life would have posed awkward questions. And we know what the president thinks of awkward questions. It would be much harder to look in the face of a grieving parent, laugh, and say, "I guess I'm not a favorite." After all, isn't it just easier to lie?
      Hello Harry:
      I sat down to write you a thank you note and was thrilled to see that moveon.org had you featured! I could not agree with you more and am very ashamed of this President. I was just reading an e-mail from MoveOn.org on Harry Taylor's conversation with "you know who" (I don't EVER mention his name) and, at the same time, I started to hear it behind me on Inside Edition.       *****Dear Meg - I could care less if you are impressed or not - my household employees are legal non-Mexicans. In actuality, I am sorry I do not have the time to do some of those chores myself. FYI - You might have heard of an ingenious new device made by auto makers - cup holders. I'm not a latte' kind of gal - but my stainless steel coffee cup (with lid!!!) fits well in these new devices. Who knew??
      I guess you "think" I'm such a poor excuse for a woman that I would abort an "inconvenient" baby. If, God forbid, I was ever in such a sad or desperate situation as you describe, I would opt for adoption. I'm sorry you think some children are "inconvenient" - come to think of it, what a poor excuse for a woman you are....
I, for one, am very tired of apologizing to the "right" for my common sense views against the war and almost everything else this "regime" stands for. Your intelligent and firm way of saying the truth to President Bush in a room filled with his supporters speaks volumes about you sir. Please keep up the good work as we all know that your character is needed to illuminate opposition to an out of control white house and a "want to be king" President. GO HILLARY GO,,,,Thanks Harry !
The bad news - you don't have a chance with I-R-I.
      As for quitting my job, Mr. Aphrodite and I are saving for our little angel's college fund - unlike progs, I don't think it's YOUR responsibility to pay for their education.
    506. Frank O Says:
      Ithink the lack of repect for the position of the president is outrageous. Never in my life did i think that i would see such blatent bullshit in my life. He seized the chance to lowball president bush. I guess the shame that he felt wasnt really towards the "regime" but it was actually for his own disrespect of our elected officials. If you dont agrre thats fine but to show such a lack of class is abhorent. Id be ashamed if i was in any way associated with him.
    507. Jana Says:
      HOW DARE Mr. Taylor be so disrespectful of the President. It is just like a liberal to be so pompous to disrespect the leader of the free world and think it's ok. I am so sick of the whining and Monday morning quarterbacking from the liberals, the President made a decision and he stuck with it, unlike John Kerry who was all over the place during the election. There is a reason why he was elected, so shut up and deal with it. Stop disrespecting the President, you'll have your chance to elect Hillary soon and we'll see who is ashamed then. Maybe she can return all the items she stole from the White House.
    508. frank caputo Says:
    510. Vanessa Says:
      There is nothing disrespectful that Mr. Taylor did. God, has anyone ever heard of FREE SPEECH. This isn't Nazi Germany. Mr. Taylor did not scream or swear at the President. He commented on what he thought was going on in the country and voiced his concerns. I applaud you Mr. Taylor!
    511. Bill Smith Says:
      I've been waiting ever since the first vote was hijacked and the supreme selection was executed for someone with enough kahoones to stand up to this gang of incompetance running our country. The press won't do it. The members of congress especially the opposition party, but even the Republicans who know all is not kosher in this administration absolutely refuse to do it.
      So here comes along some guy called Harry Taylor who shows more guts and Kahoones than the above mentioned groups in their entirety. If they had Harry's guts, and had asked the tough questions and demanded the answers we probably wouldn't be mired in this conflict in Iraq. The energy companys wouldn't be feasting on the remains and bones of the carcass of the american people. Haliburton wouldn't have enriched itself on the backs of the american taxpayer.......at least not to the extent that they have been enabled by this administration. We wouldn't have lost all those brave soldiers who have been forced to fight in an unjust conflict. Tens of thousands of seriously wounded would not be returning to our shores to an uncertain future for them and their familys. The american public would not have been ripped off by the drug companys with the presidents flawed and corrupt drug plan. Our children and grandchildren and great grandchildren would not be burdened by the debt load that this president has placed on their backs, just so his rich friends could get richer through unwarranted tax breaks. Millions of american workers would not have been robbed of their jobs and retirements by the enabled rich corporations in this country with the blessing of this president and his administration.
      AND HERE COMES ALONG HARRY TAYLOR.
      FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, HARRY.......THANK YOU FOR DOING AND SAYING WHAT THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY WISH THAT THEY COULD DO AND SAY. THANK YOU FOR DOING WHAT THE PRESS AND THE CONGRESS SHOULD BE DOING.
      MAY GOD BLESS YOU HARRY TAYLOR FOR WHAT YOU SAID TODAY, AND FOR THE FLAIR AND CALMNESS UNDER FIRE WITH WHICH YOU ACCOMPLISHED IT.
      Dear Kenny - You know how tolerant the "toleRANT left" can be when they have sick, vicious people copying screen names to portray child molesting perverts. Since going into private practice, I NEVER defend child molesters or baby rapers. They deserve the protections of our Constitution, but I would never forgive myself if a client were acquitted and went out and victimized another poor kid.
      But Kenny, look at the bright side, some people must really bother them to elicit such a juvenile reaction. They have called me everything from a Catholic/Jew/Nazi/homosexual/traitor - - they are to be pitied - and exposed for the phonies they are.
      I am a recovering Dem - I realized THEY DON'T WANT BLACKs, OR POOR WHITES AND HISPANICS TO GET AHEAD. They allow the teacher's unions to shuffle the least prepared or poorest performing teachers into the poor and inner city schools. They wouldn't be able to blame poverty, crime, etc. on the middle and wealthy class - in short, they wouldn't be needed.
