America hits the mute button.

By Nico Pitney on Apr 11th, 2006 at 1:16 pm

America hits the mute button.

Charlie Cook: “There comes a point for some unfortunate presidents when the American people begin to hit the mute button; they just stop listening. Or to put it differently, when the public turns strongly against an elected official on an issue, they begin to turn on that official on everything. In this case, Iraq has become a ball and chain for President Bush, weighing him down on every issue. The separation between his weakest issue, Iraq, and his strongest, terrorism, is just five points.”

Unfortunately, Americans hit the mute button and just stop listening to everything, otherwise there would be riots in the streets demanding Bush be tried for his crimes.

I hope and pray the criminal TRAITOR Bushiva

stays front and center in the public eye…

    …from now ’til November

…giving those lame public propaganda sessions and scripted “townhall mtgs”…

…because every time he appears it reminds us ALL of how loathsome, corrupt, and mendacious he really is

…I get viscerally repulsed and giddy all at the same time…

every time he’s featured on the corporate controlled Bushite propaganda networks

  3. Wisco says:

That explains why immigration isn’t helping him any. I thought it was surprising that somewhere in the neighborhood of 70% (don’t remember the exact number) support a guest worker program, but the popularity of the proposal hasn’t helped Bush at all.

He’s been pigeonholed as the guy with bad ideas – a generally accurate assessment, but not good for the country when it comes to getting things done. Even when he leads where they want to go, no one wants to follow.

Hmmm….Bush with a ball and chain. Nice mental picture!

  5. Daniel DiRito says:

What the President and his handlers may be missing is that the absence of the masses pounding on the White House doors and calling for his departure may not necessarily equate with acceptance of an ever increasing pattern to rewrite each and every situation or circumstance to vindicate the President. They may well believe that the public is stupid, (and much of their actions indicate that they do believe this) but they may have also miscalculated the tipping point effect. It’s akin to the story of the boy who cried wolf one too many times. I’m convinced the public is more complacent and tolerant (to a point) than they are unable to discern when they are being played. This may be one of those times in recent history where the President has gotten lost in the glow of his administrations ability to win the battles while slowly but surely losing the war. What a refreshishing turn of events that would be.

Iraq Smiraq… Iraq is not weighing down the president on every other issue. His incompetent execution of his corrupt policies on every other issue is weighing him down on every other issue.

  7. Erroll says:

Like so many alcoholics, Bush’s stubborness manifests itself by a complete unwillingness to admit that he is wrong. People like Bush become quite persuasive in telling lies, in making a lie sound like the truth. Bush’s ability to charm and persuade a crowd has fallen flat. It looks like the citizens of this country may have finally, finally, taken off their rose colored glasses and have discovered that style over substance looks a lot more tarnished than it did in the past.

  8. Unemployment Rate - 4.7% says:

This is true, but not limited to just Bush. The Democratic Party’s image is just as bad, if not worse. Hillary, Kerry, Gore – has-beens and political opportunist with no real core beliefs. And shrill.

Americans hate the left because they know you seek to destroy the foundation on which America was founded on. You’ll never get back in power by being honest about what you believe.

  9. Southwest Bob says:

Bush is an ineffective leader who resorts to lies and dirty tricks to attempt to stay “popular.” Bush’s life has always been about being popular which he accomplished by coming from a rich family and having a famous daddy. He has never stood on respected personal values or principles and now, on the biggest stage of life, his lack of principles are evident to everyone. Americans will follow and support a dedicated, honest and hardworking leader. Bush is not dedicated, honest or hardworking. The curtain has been drawn back and we see an irresponsible, shallow man who using the authority of his office in place of principles. He is now and will forever be regarded as the worst president in US history.

  10. wisedup says:

Screw partys, bad people will be thrown out, because this is what America is all about.
What if there were NO partys?…..a crook is a crook, throw them out and into jail they go.

    PROPAGANDA ALERT.

Stick to the topic of Bush plummeting to new lows in the polls.

If Republicans were honest about their agenda–abolition of the minimu wage, destruction of the social safety net, outlawed abortion, death penalty for rape victims and abortion providers, consolidation of power into the military and para-military organizations, death penalty for gays….you would end up at 33% in the polls as you are now.

    Unemployable Rat,

…It’s becoming quite obvious that you’re either illiterate, or deranged…

…and because you’re able to write (type) your idiotic opinions the latter must be the answer…

Americans are FINALLY beginnig to realize that your gods (you really need to dismantle that shrine in your living room) Bushiva and L’il Dick ARE “destroying the foundation on which America was founded”…

…only TREASONOUS, incestuously inbred, pedophiles like yourself can’t seem to relinquish your insane devotion to those mass murdering TREASONOUS cowards in your sick PARTY…

…but that’s alright, you (and your entire recessive gene pool) can SINK with them…

here’s another idea, from last week, remember this?:
g.w.superchrist 13 – “Next time a republican mentions mckinney – just respond with – Yes, Tom Delay is corrupt… or I agree, warrantless domestic wiretapping is against the law… or maybe You are correct, this is the most incompetent administration ever.”

EXCELLENT IDEA … might i add, or insert, “next time ANY TROLL mentions ANY DIVERSION – respond accordingly…
if you don’t mind i may copy/paste that elsewhere and often…thanks!

Katy – I would be flattered. You may paste that anywhere you want and as often as you want.

  22. Rosencrantz says:

the problem with this quote is the person who wrote it assumes that all of Bush’s issues are great but Iraq is bringing Bush down. That is False. Iraq was the big issue and now that it was exposed as being pre-determined, falsified intelligence, and based on lies…Sure, BUsh is down on that policy.

But NONE of Bush’s other policies are any good either. The destrcution of science, threatening the job of any scientist that dares question Bush’s policies. The leaking of a CIA operative. The death of his Social Security giveaway to his wealthy investment donors. Taxc cuts only going to the wealthy. His useless prescription drug plan. Etc, etc, etc.

It isn’t one issue bringing down the great Leader. It is the facts and truth that are bringing him down. They all say the same thing. That Bush is an incompetant, clueless, silver-spoon-fed, out of touch son of wealth and never should have been voted president in the first place. EVERY policy of Bush has been a disaster.

  23. Zookeeper says:

#18 – Sharon, they are all the same thing, just different bodies. I’m now going to use GW SuperChrist’s phrases if a troll responds to any comment of mine.

    Thanks for reminding us, katy.

By the way — Yes, this is the most incompetent administration ever.

  27. Wisco says:

An unemployment rate of 4.7% is nothing to crow about when wages grew only 2%, falling behind inflation’s rate of 3.6%. That represents a loss in buying power of 1.6% or nearly a week of wages a year.

    Yay for the ‘booming’ economy…

    He said it enough times.

The bigger the lie, the more you will have to repeat it in order for it to sound true.

He’s been saying it since 9/11 -that’s an awful lot of times.

  33. Matt says:

Dude, I mute the president all the time. And try and guess when he is saying terrorist. His laugh is starting to freak me out.

  34. Zookeeper says:

#33 – Me too, Matt. I can’t stand the sound of his voice, and his body language is so aggressive. I’ve found that although I mute him, that jaw wobble thing is annoying me. There’s just no pleasing some people… ;)

  35. koalablue says:

There comes a point for some unfortunate presidents when the American people begin to hit the mute button; they just stop listening.

I think the entire american adminstration had hit the mute button to the unfortunate American people along time ago.

  36. lpt says:

I’m wondering if the deliberate neglect of New Orleans, the president’s strange behavior on 9/11, and the destruction in New York was set as a deliberate test case for something else-an American city in the aftermath of a nuclear disaster. The duct tape seminars, color-coded alerts, verbal threats and sabre rattling, etc. If other countries with greater nuclear reach and capacity get involved,I don’t think a strike on America would be farfetched.

  37. Steve Magruder says:

Bush’s “unemployment rate” is the result of cooked books.

If Bush can cook the books to bamboozle the American people into an elective war with Iraq, he can also cook the economic books. And he is.

  38. Zimzone says:

And times were difficult for the New Messiah. People were marching in the streets to become Americans themselves, but the New Messiah hit the mute button. “Verily I say unto thee, if the United Corporations of America cannot use these people of color for deeds they are unwilling to do themselves, what purpose do they serve? Is it not our inherent right to have others wash our feet & clothes? What then, will we do to comfort ourselves? I am the new God. Worship no other parties before me. Ye will work at a wage your corporate deity demands! We will not sanction employers, who all worship me, the New Messiah. Go, therefore, and spread the word as true believers and I shall give you tax breaks. I will sign into law measures that will defeat these infidels here on our sacred ground. GOD BLESS THE CORPORATIONS!
