T ‘I-RIGHT-I’ comment #17 and your position that Cheney getting booed at the ballgame isn’t the least bit important, I’d like to counter by saying it is VERY IMPORTANT when a sitting Vice President cannot attend a public event without getting booed by that public. The same would be true for any high level administration official.
It’s important that the general public gets a chance to express their feelings directly, and just as important that the administration official hear it! Too many of the almost scripted appearances of this President and Vice-President are held in front of nothing but highly screened audiences in which there is about a 1% chance of there being a person in the audience who is not one of their few remaining idealogue supporters who hate to admit (Just like Bush, Cheney, Rummy) that they’ve ever made a mistake in their lives. A bit of insecurity there, isn’t it?
When an administration rules by nothing but fear, fear, and more fear, the public eventually overcomes the initial fear shock and begins to look at the reality of things, but there will always be that 30% of the public who give in to their fears, fears which in most of this group are numerous.

Everytime Cheney comes out from under his rock to pretend to be “one of the guys” he embarrases himself. His visit to the Katrina devastated south was the first.

I heard from someone that was there that they were booing Cheney and stomping their feet on the way to his “sissy” pitch, and as he went back to his secret place beneath the rocks.

So – in summary. (1) The people have the right to “boo” a public official with an 18% approval rating. They obviously don’t feel he has been efficiently serving the nation. These public officials are supposedly “tough” people who knew that they would hear it – one way or another – from the American people if they do an unfavorable job.

And (2) – If a man is “boo-ed,” a newspaper or TV media should say ” the man was boo-ed.” ( or – the man is being “boo-ed” in the case of live TV ).

It is really as simple as that.

Don’t attempt to mute it.

Don’t attempt to spin it.

Just say: the man was boo-ed.

It’s too bad. He holds one of the highest offices in the land. You may agree with the man or not, support the administration or not, but this kind of reaction is just as disrespectful to the role of VP as it is to the person in it. It’s mocking ourselves and our system of government that we fought to be able to have. We have the right to vote, and seek recourse in appropriate channels. Too bad we can’t figure out what those are. Makes me feel ashamed.

No, Matt. Not at all.

If this were a stand alone event – then yes. It would be splitting hairs.

But in the context of all of the other things – the hiring of a dubious right-wing blogger, the reality challenged editorial regarding the leaks – which was somewhat sympathetic to president – and then there is #21’s observation that a major story ( the Joe Wilson editorial … a story, to me, that is somewhat reminiscent of the Washington Post’s Watergate glory days ) possibly intentionally kept off of the front page and pushed into the bowels of the paper …

In the context of all of these things, I would have to say that we are not splitting hairs over what seems to be a pattern of the Washington Post’s recent pattern of splitting or spinning the truth.

I don’t think this reporting error is really going to result in the deaths of thousands or the stripping of our rights.

Also, it doesn’t say the boos were in response to his throw. It just says there were more boos after his throw. uh…I watched it and after his throw, as he walked off the field there were more boos.

They fixed it! Don’t you think you are splitting hairs on this one?

sigh,I tried to follow a fox news discussion tonite. They all looked like good ole boys chewing the fat and spinning stories. I checked their statements versus the libby /fitzgerald filing and found
they were indeed spinning stories. The interesting thing about lies is that they get bigger and
bigger. Eventually they implode. In this particular instance I keep tapping my foot and looking at my watch waiting for the event. implode already!
