hurting troop morale?

Scratch one more excuse off the list for quiet, intrusive intelligence gathering.

  2. Badmoodman says:

Godd googly moogly, does Fox News use the passive/aggressive question mark on EVERY freakin’ headline? I think lack of protective body armor and properly armored vehicles is a helluva lot more damaging to the physical as well as psychological health of the troops.

  3. koalablue says:

    Morale ouch
Nearly 2,400 dead and how many seriously wounded? Dying hurts a bit more i would imagine than a few words from retired generals.

The troops would be on the ground and know what is going on in reality Not the fantasy that is invented from either side at the top level.

  4. koalablue says:

What doesn’t hurt morale is the quick war, the lack of rose petals, the nothankfull populace, the lack of WMD’s, no prior link to OBL!

  5. WaltTheMan says:

Me thinks that Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld have more damaged to troop morale then Saddam, al Qaeda, the Taliban and Osama combined.

  6. Hardy Haberman says:

I would think the lies and deceptions of the Comander in Chief would hurt moral more than some honest dissent.

  7. Colorado Jyms says:

Do you know what would raise morale? Having a date when the troops would come home!!!

  8. Clif says:

I have a small suspection that many more of the troops have said Rummy was a moron than the six generals seeing that most troops do not have a high regard for “desk jockeys” or REMFs as they are known on the front lines.

REMFs stands for rear echalon mutherfvckers of which Rummy is #2 on the list…….

The generals ALSO CAN NOT “HURT” MORAL IF WHAT THEY ARE SAYING IS CONSISTANT WITH WHAT THE TROOPS ON THE GROUND SEE. In that case by speaking out they actually would be helping moral because the troops would see that somebody does actually care about them and see the problems and insanity they do.

  9. Justin says:

Remember the Fox headline: Do conservatives treat albinos better than liberals?

    That was a classic.

But this whole “are the generals anti-american?” is pretty good too.

  10. Briseadh na Faire says:

“Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists.” – George Bush, September 20, 2001.

Obviously, then, those retired generals are with the terrorists. Time to dust off the old Sedition Act. After all, it was good enough for our founding fathers, so it should be good enough for us.

And, lest we forget, we can also follow the example of that first great Republican President, Abraham Lincoln:

Proclamation Suspending the Writ of Habeas Corpus

    Abraham Lincoln
    September 24, 1862

Proclamation Suspending the Writ of Habeas Corpus

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA:

    A PROCLAMATION

    Whereas, it has become necessary to call into service not only volunteers but also portions of the militia of the States by draft in order to suppress the insurrection existing in the United States, and disloyal persons are not adequately restrained by the ordinary processes of law from hindering this measure and from giving aid and comfort in various ways to the insurrection;

Now, therefore, be it ordered, first, that during the existing insurrection and as a necessary measure for suppressing the same, all Rebels and Insurgents, their aiders and abettors within the United States, and all persons discouraging volunteer enlistments, resisting militia drafts, or guilty of any disloyal practice, affording aid and comfort to Rebels against the authority of United States, shall be subject to martial law and liable to trial and punishment by Courts Martial or Military Commission:

Second. That the Writ of Habeas Corpus is suspended in respect to all persons arrested, or who are now, or hereafter during the rebellion shall be, imprisoned in any fort, camp, arsenal, military prison, or other place of confinement by any military authority of by the sentence of any Court Martial or Military Commission.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the City of Washington this twenty fourth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-two, and of the Independence of the United States the 87th.

    ABRAHAM LINCOLN

    By the President:

WILLIAM H. SEWARD, Secretary of State.

Remember, this is WAR! And President Bush is a WAR-TIME PRESIDENT! And WAR-TIME PRESIDENTS have the inherent POWER as COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF to order the suspension of civil liberties and Constitutional Rights of any American in the name of Democracy, Liberty, Freedom and Justice for All.

The really frightening thing is, there are those who would agree whole-heartedly with the above comments….

  11. Clif says:

    It ain’t just the generals;

The relevant paragraphs from his article,

I returned disillusioned by what I saw. I participated in the second battle of Fallujah in November 2004. We crushed the insurgents in the city, but we only ended up scattering them throughout the province. The dumb ones stayed and died. The smart ones left town before the battle, to garner more recruits and fight another day. We were simply the little Dutch boy with our finger in the dike. In retrospect, we never had enough troops to firmly control the region; we had just enough to maintain a tenuous equilibrium.

I now know I wrongfully placed my faith and trust in a presidential administration hopelessly mired in incompetence, hubris and a lack of accountability. It planned a war based on false intelligence and unrealistic assumptions. It has strategically surrendered the condition of victory in Iraq to people who do not share our vision, values or interests. The Bush administration has proven successful at only one thing in Iraq — painting us into a corner with no feasible exit.

I will never trust any of them again.

Somebody better throw some red meat to the Republicans, they have begun to eat themselves.

  14. sergeant b says:

all these generals coming out and speaking what should have been said long ago is a HUGE boost to our moral. seriously.

  15. RDD says:

6 Generals bashing Rummy for mismanaging the illegal invasion and occupation of a sovereign, defenseless country:

    Priceless!

  16. troll says:

A handful of retired generals out of thousands are critical of the war and they make headlines. But the MSM does not mention the other thousands. Hmmmm.

And you libs are critical of the MSM? This criticism seems to many to be a smokescreen.

  17. Paul in Mexico says:

Oh troll, my troll, what senseless blathering!

  18. Briseadh na Faire says:

    Troll,

    name two.

  19. Uncle Togarma says:

Listening to Rush Limbaugh on the Military Radio Services has been proven to, scientifically and factually, that Chicken Hawks are not good for Troop Morale. That Chicken Hawks Being the Neo-Cons. Rush is of course a Proven Chickenhawk and a Neo-Con. Like Bush. Bush Has now been Proven to Hurt Troops Morale because he, and this is FACT, is a ChickenHawk.

The Other FACT is that When Bush put up that, Mission Accomplished’ sign, well Troops thought they might be going home soon. Troop Morale has thus been Proven to be Bush’s Fault Again. Dick Cheney himself is a Chicken Hawk, Troops don’t have Good morale when a Chicken Hawk Trys to tell them what to do?

See the Problem is Pundits and ChickenHawks, err the Neo-Cons and their Pundit Spawn Hurt Troop Morale. Its not the ‘Liberals’..No, who cares what the Liberals say? Its the ChickenHawks,
    The Troops hate Bush Mcnamaras!

  20. Uncle Togarma says:

Troll you are a Sad little Dominionist. Jeez Man, stand on yer own two feet you little falwellian wacko.

  21. jurassicpork says:

Remember when Rummy took a swipe at Maureen Dowd last month? Well, today, MoDo gets her revenge.

  22. Sharon Cox says:

Dear Troll, anyone with a thinking mind know’s Rumsfeld is a lier and a chicken hawk. Look at his scrawney lily white hands he waves areound during his next speal. What you can’t see is all the blood on them from all his evil dealings in the past and now in the present. This entire administration needs to be thrown out of office for war crimes against Iraq and the American people. Learn, read and listen. If you would listen, even the Col. that was paraded with Rumsfeld in the news yesterday didn’t say he backed Rummy. What he did say was silence was the military code. Get it.? He wanted to keep his retirement and service pay and not get swift boated and outed. Wait till he retires, bet he will have lot’s to say……..Impeach now…

  23. Ho Chi Minh says:

Clif & Coming Home Disillusioned; I’m sorry that you’ve finally figured it out the hard way. I came to the same conclusion waaaaaaaaay back during Vietnam.

  24. Wisco says:

It’s amazing just how low an opinion the rightwing spinners have of the troops. They’d have us believe that they’re all emotionally needy people with fragile egos, sitting around watching CNN for praise. How demeaning is that?

This morale argument is such obvious BS.

  25. troll says:

    Sharon,
Anyone with a thinking mind knows they are all full o shite Democrat or Republican alike. Rummy is a dirtbbag and so was Clinton and half his cabinet.

  26. troll says:

And half the Dems and Repubs in congress as well.

  27. left in a right world says:

It’s so simple. Whatever is bad for the Republican administration is bad for troop morale. Can I say it any clearer!

  28. Gregor Samsa says:

    Rummy is a dirtbbag
    Comment by troll — April 15, 2006 @ 6:10 pm

And yet, here you are, defending him against his critics and implying the media is against him for no good reason.

  29. Paul R says:

THERE are over 4000 retired Generals in the U.S. by my count thats over 3994 that back BUSH hahahahahahahaha. you are all a bunch of loons

  30. Sharon Cox says:

Make that 3993, another one just stood up to be counted……No more Bush wars, impeach this administration and vote out all the enabelers…….Blessings

  31. GURU^ says:

    # 30 Paul R.: Just because the 3993 hav n’t spoken;what makes you think they support Bush?Clown.

  32. radzikowski says:

The truth ALWAYS hurts, but not as much as the layers and layers of lies that parade as truth.

So, #30, where can I go to see or read about the “over 3994 retired generals that back Bush”? That’s a lot of retired generals that feel that way about our president. Surely they have a website or talk-show? Why havent’ we heard anything from them???

Methinks you’re grabbing at straws! Just like the over 90 million eligible voting-age adults that didn’t show up for the 2004 presidential election, it looks like they’re vote doesn’t count, right? Unless they SPEAK OUT.

  33. Sharon Cox says:

#33 That number was a quote from Rummy in his last speal, I think on Friday. I hate watching all these lieing scum bags, but, do to learn their next evil deed. Think oppiset and know what they are realy doing. Looks like the maniac in charge has had Iran and Syria on the distruction table since 2004 or earlier. My bet is wacko will let Israel do it and jump in…..Sad and shameful……….Blessings
