Steve Forbes position is correct in that $15.00 of the price of oil is because of market uncertainty vis-a-vis Iran's pursuit of the nuclear bomb. A nuclear Iran would put a strangle hold on the worlds oil supply. This is not the first time Iran has tried to restrict the flow of oil. During the 1980s government of Iran was attacking Kuwaiti oil tankers and laying mines in the shipping lanes of the Persian Gulf. The Reagan Administration put an end to this crap by re-flagging the tankers with US Flags and telling Iran any attacks on tankers would be an act of war. The world cannot afford to wait until Iran has nuclear weapons. Iran has already made its intention to wipe Israel off the map known. The difference between countries like the US or the USSR having nuclear weapons and countries like Iran is this, the US and the USSR have the weapons, but will never use them. They understand the term MAD or Mutually Assured Destruction. If Iran get the bomb, they will use it and then the price of oil will make your quality of life diminish greatly. Gas won't be $5.00 a gallon, but more like $30.00 or $40.00 if you can get any at all. The US imports 60% of its crude oil from the Middle East largely because of the opposition by environmentalists to the drilling for oil here at home. Even if we were to begin drilling in ANWR tomorrow it would take 10 years to get that crude to market. So you do the math. A nuclear Iran would take 60% of the crude oil off the market.
