Careful how you report gas prices, though. Diff counties, diff taxes. Chicago’s gas is extra expensive due to ridiculous Cook County taxes, for instance.
$6.00 is the equivalent price in germany/europe and it’s quite similar (sometimes higher, sometimes lower) in the rest of western europe.
We would be happy if it were down to $4 ;-)
Bush’s principal policy objective since first being anointed has now been totally realized. Exxon/Mobil and BP thank the Dubster from the bottom of their bank accounts.
Gasoline is taxed per gallon, not per dollar. If the tax is $.30 per gallon, this does not increase because I raised my price per gallon to $4.00 from $3.00. I get that extra dollar.
Wow, didn’t Exxon Mobil make more profit than any company in the history of mankind last year? Didn’t the CEO retire with a $400,000,000+ retirement package? I sure wish those LEFTIES WACKOS would stop causing such high gas prices.
#4. Maybe it was the Republican governor who was recently indicted. Oh, maybe I should be more specific since such a vast number of Republicans have been indicted lately. “The party of corruption.”
This is what was in the footnotes. Amazing how much the federal tax is. What party is in place currently?
The Federal Tax of 18.4 cents per gallon is collected in all states in addition to any state or local taxes on gasoline sales.
Gasoline taxes are levied in various ways in different states. Some states, such as Louisiana, levy a flat rate per gallon. Others charge a tax similar to a sales tax in that it applies to the monetary amount of the gasoline sold. Other states allow local communities to levy gasoline taxes in addition to any state taxes that might be levied
One of the smartest things brazil has done was to start selling alchohol as a fuel next to Gas and diesel. The big three responded by producing cars and trucks that can run on either or a mix of both.
Bush, Cheney and Rice must be laughing all the way to the bank with their royalty oil checks. Next Bush will tell every one to go on long driving vacations while he bombs Iran and keeps up with his deposets……..Blessings
My daughter and I are supposed to go on our last mother/daughter vacation this summer. We were going to drive cross country. I do not know if I will be able to do this now. Every day my contempt for this administration grows and every day I think that there is no possible way I could hate these individuals anymore.
Fox News’ web site calls Tony Snow an anchor. Or, more appropriately, says that Fox shows are “anchored by trusted FOX News Channel correspondents”, and then goes on to list Tony snow as one of those people who anchor the shows.
#21 – Jules, I feel your pain. My son and I have a road trip planned for after graduation. We, too, are watching our trip diminish, if not disappear. We’ve been planning this trip for a year. Now it may not happen at all, and it makes me so angry.
The Era Of Enron is here and we thought the Enro bunch was crooks.
There will be no let up on gas prices ,its another way bush and co think they can break the will of the people ….Vehicle is park and I’ m on the bike ….and I have feet and can run or walk. Screw this cabal of dicators nazi’s ….. This morning in Nashville gas was 2.89 ..Its prolly 3.00 per gallon now. And no we can’t say I wish it was 2.00 per gal as its still scamming us consumers…..
What are you people going to do about it? I’m the decider. I decide whats going to happen with this country not you people. I know whats best for you little people.
( jaw jutting back and forth ) So what are you gonna do about it? you can’t do nothing cuz i’m GWB and you ain’t! what ya gon do? you ain’t gon do nothin but blog. i lied you into war… what did you do? Nothin! i lied, cuz i was the one who ok’d the leaking of a covert op. what did you do? Nothin! I abuse the powers of this office to make my oil buddies even more money and i ain’t done yet. what are you gonna do?
Nothin! You weak people, just like the frog’s i used to torture when i was a kid they did’t do nothin either. i’m gonna nuke Iran next cuz i decide what’s gonna happen not you. I’M THE DEICDER, NOT YOU!!! you ain’t gon do nothin….but blog ooohhhh
#21 – That’s a sad story about the vacation, but it’ll probably do your daughter some good to not have to sit in the car and hear about how much mommy hates people.
If people continue to pay, then the price of oil and gas and it’s distillates are underpriced. When demand begins to taper off is when, any economist can tell you, is the price where supply and demand curves intersect showing the true value of the commodity.
the oil co. been saying they wont be satisfied until the price of a gal. of gas is equal to a gal. of milk . they met their goal and passed it.the oil co. should be nationalized and used the profits for tax since they are running the country anyways
why cant the oil co. have reserves like the gov.does in case of emergencies if oil cost to much tap in the reserve until it goes down every state should have one of their own also.oil is over 1 million years old and will last a lot longer.
The price per gallon of gas is Donald Rumpsfelts’ fault.
April 19th, 2006 at 12:55 pmWOW.

But still….$4+…..WOW.

Cook County taxes…I’d be interested to know what party instituted those taxes that are making gas prices so darn high.

April 19th, 2006 at 1:19 pmtony snow is still not a fox news anchor. just thought you should know.
April 19th, 2006 at 1:21 pmState sales taxes on gasoline will go up and down depending on the dollar price of gas. however the other taxes on a gallon of gas are a constant.
Here is the link for the state by state taxes on gasoline.

April 19th, 2006 at 1:28 pmLooks like that Reagan load is still trickling down on us.

April 19th, 2006 at 1:28 pm$4/gallon? Wow.
I see that it’s well over $3/gallon out on the Left Coast.
Interesting that nobody seems to mind. The MSM isn’t very hot on this issue either. Hmmmm…
April 19th, 2006 at 1:48 pmI could have been clearer about where I got my numbers from. I was looking here: http://www.gasbuddy.com/
April 19th, 2006 at 1:49 pmTake a hint from Brazil… Yes BRAZIL!
April 19th, 2006 at 1:50 pmWhy are the bushies going crazy with whether Tony Snow is a Phaux News guy or not? Jesus, does that make any sense? NO, it does not.
Hey, we have 2 threads running with that already this morning. Please go there to comment about your denial.
Me, I think it Phaux Pnews’s fault that the price of gas has gone up…..Yea, you Rupert Murdoch, that’s who I’ll blame in this thread today…..

Now about the US oil dependance?
April 19th, 2006 at 2:00 pmmeanwhile EXXON laughs all the way to the bank, the middle class is funding the war in Iraq and not getting adequate healthcare services in return.

April 19th, 2006 at 2:11 pmRighties arguing that there is a difference between “host” and “anchor” sound just like Bill Clinton arguing what the meaning of “is” is.
It is funny that the righties would want to act just like the guy they hate so much.

See for yourselves: FOX News Radio Service
“He is a host not an anchor” -what nonsense…

April 19th, 2006 at 5:40 pm#24 If you had set aside some money each month and invested in oil, you’d have plenty of money to go on your trip.
April 19th, 2006 at 5:44 pmI really don’t mind getting gouged by Big Oil, just so long as the high cost of gas isn’t caused by a gasoline tax.
April 19th, 2006 at 9:58 pmI’m wunna those Oxy-Conservatives.
When we attack Iran the price of a gallon of gas
April 19th, 2006 at 10:41 pmwill go up to about $8. If there is any gas
available. Remember the 70s?
That’s sweet TM

April 20th, 2006 at 9:13 amPaying one jackass CEO like half a billion dollars doesn’t help prices either.
April 20th, 2006 at 12:19 pmMaybe if you work hard, one day you can be in a position to make that kind of money. I’m sure you’d give it all away, though – like Cheney.
