Moments ago, Scott McClellan resigned as White House Press Secretary. The White House is considering replacing him with Fox News anchor Tony Snow.
No, this isn’t a joke. Fox News has the story:
One of the people the White House has approached as a possible replacement for McClellan if his resignation comes any time soon is FOX News Radio host Tony Snow.
FOX News has learned that those discussions occurred as recently as this week.
Snow also appears regularly on Fox News television.

Imagine my shock.

Snow Job, the Disinformation Minister!
April 19th, 2006 at 9:48 amNever thought I’d miss Scottie so soon… (sarcasm off)
April 19th, 2006 at 9:50 amUnbelievable. Well, maybe not. After all, the decider decided to decide this.
April 19th, 2006 at 9:50 amMac the doughboy just resign..here comes the snow job
April 19th, 2006 at 9:50 amGood riddance chunky
April 19th, 2006 at 9:51 amThat’s actually good. Now Tony can lie officially instead of trying to pass it off as balanced journalism. They should make Roger Ailes the Communications director.
April 19th, 2006 at 9:52 amCNN….Scotty just quit…..raw story also.
April 19th, 2006 at 9:53 amThere goes Puffy McMoonface, in comes Snowjob Bob. Who’s next, Heir O’Reilly and Druggy Limbaugh?
April 19th, 2006 at 9:56 amWhy don’t they give the job to Tom DeLay?
I think that would be more fitting for an administration of future felons.
April 19th, 2006 at 9:57 amWow, an amateur liar replaced by a real professional liar. What a surprise.
April 19th, 2006 at 9:59 amTony Snow is a complete phony propagandist nitwit > just the guy Bush needs > lol. At least we know that FOX News is completely controlled by the Bush Regime, since they hire their thugs!
April 19th, 2006 at 9:59 amSnow:A kinder,gentler,asshole.
April 19th, 2006 at 10:02 amNow we can impeach the chimp for giving us a ‘Snow Job’.
April 19th, 2006 at 10:03 amThat’s so shocking. Lying liars, the lies they love, and the public who loves to be lied to.
Yikes.
O/T - but that comment by Rumsfeld on Limbaugh’s show yesterday about bin Laden and Zarqawi having “media committees” and being “actively out there trying to manipulate the press in the United States.” Not only is that just a hopelessly transparent lie, but, even assuming Rummy’s speaking the truth, WHAT THE HECK HAVE WE BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST FOUR YEARS? The terrorist network responsible for 9/11 still has frickin’ MEDIA COMMITTEES??? RUmmy, you are an incompetent boob, and you must go.
Bleccch.
April 19th, 2006 at 10:03 amwhich just goes to prove how much Fox News really is a shill for Bush and the Republicants…
April 19th, 2006 at 10:07 amQuick - somebody make the first FOX in the White House joke …
April 19th, 2006 at 10:09 amMy bet is the the “Snowjob” is just a false rumor…look for a blonde bimbo to take the job…Ann Coulter clone will be the next press sec…
April 19th, 2006 at 10:09 amWhat happened to Dan Senor? I think Deroy Murdoch would be great. Any one like Deroy that can put up with Wackjob gets my vote. Why not a brother?

April 19th, 2006 at 10:15 amHere are a few FAIR AND BALANCED things Tony Balony as said over the past few years:
On the Bushwars:
“It serves notice that President Bush is serious about promoting freedom, because free societies are a lot more peaceable than dictatorships and monarchies.”
On prisoner abuse:
“Journalists love a feeding frenzy, and the press corps would have loved nothing more than a tale that would have nailed the president and Donald Rumsfeld with fresh prisoner-abuse allegations.”
On Social Security:
“The real sin with Social Security is that it’s a long-term rip-off and a short-term scam.”
On the American people:
“We live in an anaesthetized society.”
On politics, Republican style:
“I mean, I love old fashioned eye-gouging, hair pulling, sucker-punching, full-contact politics.”
On the peoples right to vote:
“Frankly, I don’t want ignoramuses showing up en masse to vote on propositions that could raise my taxes, restrict my freedom, or make life more miserable for my family.”
Correct me if I’m wrong, but he ought to be a real good fit for the Administration.

April 19th, 2006 at 10:19 am(1) It gets this kool-aid pourer off the tube
(2) they have to go back to using another snake-oil salkesman who looks every bit the lying shill he is, versus the last guy who could blame his obliviousness to the spew he was shilling on apparent retardedness
(3) Let’s end the charade of an independent mainstream media that is anything more that the rightwing spin machine and that Faux News squakers are much else besides the neocon’s farm team.
Wait — isn’t Snow *already* a Bush mouthpiece?
This will be a change in his job title, not his actual job.
April 19th, 2006 at 10:20 amIt is a good choice, after all Fox News is the un-official goverment media outlet, for Snow the only change will be his workplace, not his job.
April 19th, 2006 at 10:23 amTony Snow as Bush’s press spokesperson?
PLEASE LET IT BE SO!
The line (such as it exists in reality) between Fox ‘News” and the Bushites will be officiall gone. Charges of Bushite collaboration with the corporate media will now be substantive and credible.
But, Snow will have a tough time transitioning from speaking for himself into spinning tall tales for the ‘liar-in-chief’. As a pundit, Tony can bluster all he wants, a press secretary has to be measured and controlled. I predict a very difficult and short stay at the White House for Tony if he takes this job.
Furthermore, I think this is a pretty big admission of disarray and trouble in Bush-land. Yet, it is typical of them to think that the problem is with the messenger and not the policies. So ….
…. I still say get ready for a dramatic ‘event’ to take place soon to shake up the political environment. Rove will have to throw the ‘Hail Mary’ political pass pretty soon if the radical Republicans are going to have much chance of surviving the 2006 elections.
War on Iran? Or is that a distraction to cover planning for a strike on Hugo Chavez? A major terror attack in Europe? A preemptive hit on North Korea? Bush has made such a mess of the world that Rove has a lot to work with … but, rest assured — IT IS COMING.
April 19th, 2006 at 10:25 am[…] Speaking of which, Washington is all a flutter with rumors of his replacement. The oddest of which came from ThinkProgress. April 19th, 2006 at 10:37 amYou have to love a “shake up” that brings in one media “ho*” to replace another. We might even have a cabinet level replacement - who the hell has heard of John Snow other than the 1% of us who follow the foibles of “the fools on the hill**”? Maybe Bush can really shake it up and move Norman Mineta from Transportation to Treasury. Hang on to your hats, our fearless leaders / deciders, are BACK!!

Bush continues to amaze me with his poor judge of character. He’s so professionally groomed you don’t get a clear image of who this guy is until he chooses his allies - and reveals the small, twisted political landscape he calls home (and 65% of America calls la-la land).

April 19th, 2006 at 10:46 amSomething must be up. This guy does not fit the profile for a Bush employee. He has a neck and his face isnt bloated. What’s up.?. We’re in trouble now..LOL…..Blessings
April 19th, 2006 at 10:47 amIt’s also becoming clear that the wight wing wacktoids are ‘baiting’ us by throwing these stinking bits of rotting flesh out for us to snap at, as evidenced by last weeks offering of Tom Delay for head of OMB.
April 19th, 2006 at 10:47 amIn my humble opinion, these behaviors are a juvenile and perverse expression of the sadly regressing human condition.
All hope is not lost, still……..
If Rumpsfled has to resort to appearing with Rush Limbaugh, then the current mis-administration is really scraping the bottom of the media barrel….
(Or was it business related? Does Rummy-nose own stock in Oxy-cotton?)
Snow is one of the worst liars in talk radio. In classic Fox fashion, he shamelessly distorts the truth while simultaneously smearing those who don’t live in his fantasy world.
He’s a shoe-in.
April 19th, 2006 at 10:52 amPretty soon it’ll be the White House presents Fox News. Or Fox News, the news organization chosen by your government for your government news of the day.
I suspect this is a step towards more fake news coming out of the White House like the government propaganda that came out of Health and Human Services and was shown as real news on some stations.
Why do I always think of communists regimes and things like the KGB, dictators, all those things for decades we were told were the most evil things on the planet, when I hear of the Bush administration and Karl Rove.

I recall outraged progs wincing (LOL) when Georgie Stephanopolous landed at ABC or when James “the Alien” Carville, and Paul Begala got their gig. I’m sure the socialists and progs who litter this landscape with their clever “insight” and marginal “humour” find all they need to know in the “thorough” New York Times, the “Nation” or on Indy Media. Can you tell us why Brit Hume’s “Political Grapevine” always consists of stories on Liberals and Democrats and how bad they are? Could you tell us why Brit Hume’s panel consists of always 3 or 4 conservatives vs. 1 liberal? Could you tell us why Bill O’Reilly says he is independent yet his news stories and “Talking Points Memo” always bashes Liberals and the Left EVERY SINGLE NIGHT? Could you tell us why on the weekend Fox shows that deal with the stocks and money that there are taglines at the bottom of the screen such as “Do Liberals want America to fail”? “Why do the Liberals want Terrorists to win”? “Do the Liberals want a Communist State”? “Are the Liberals and the Democrats in line with Al-Qaeda”? “Why a Democratic Congress means Higher taxes for you”. Tony, are you able to explain any of that to our “Fair and Balanced” audience out here. Do you believe Fox News is Fair and Balanced?……Tony Snow “Um, yes….yes I do”.
Whoever it was that cried about Stephanopoulis or Carville being on shows, THEY don’t do any of the things that you see above on Fox News. From FoxNews’ own web site:
FOX News Radio Service provides radio stations with hourly newscasts at both top and bottom of the hour. Newscasts are anchored by trusted FOX News Channel correspondents and provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service also provides radio stations with radio-anchored breaking news coverage of crisis events both nationally and internationally.
“The Tony Snow Show” engages listeners with thought-provoking opinion and analysis on key issues affecting our lives. Hosted by renowned journalist Tony Snow of the FOX News Channel, “The Tony Snow Show” features top political guests such as Dick Cheney and Colin Powell, as well as famous personalities from the worlds of news, film, television, radio and music.
FOX News Radio Service
So, Tony Snow anchors his own show because he is a “trusted FOX News Channel correspondent” -but he is not an anchor? Riiight…
April 19th, 2006 at 2:03 pm#72 - News Anchor: “News analysts—also called newscasters or news anchors—examine, interpret, and broadcast news received from various sources. News anchors present news stories and introduce videotaped news or live transmissions from on-the-scene reporters.”
http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos088.htm
There now, your “spin” has been debunked multiple times. You’re wuite welcome.
Still no apology from you for being, not just wrong, but quite disingenuous in your “spin” about Snow supposedly not being an anchor on his own show. Typical neo-conservative behaviour.
I guess I’ve become immune to your inability to take responsibility for your actions. I guess that’s because you emulate Pres. Bush and the elected Republicans so well.
April 19th, 2006 at 2:11 pm#72 - ”
A news anchor is a television personality who presents material prepared for a news program and at times must improvise commentary for live presentation. The term is primarily used in the United States and Canada. Many news anchors are also involved in writing and/or editing the news for their programs. Sometimes news anchors interview guests and moderate panels or discussions. Some provide commentary for the audience during parades and other events.”
“In the current age of mass media and consolidation, news anchors tend to be viewed as belonging to the infotainment or news trades, rather than to the journalism profession. There is a spectrum and scale however — the quintessential national news anchors from early days of television news tended to come from experienced backgrounds in print journalism. Since then, television news has largely been an entity in its own right, where print and television journalism can be viewed as divergent trades.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/News_anchor
Yet more information to support the fact that Mr. Snow is a news anchor.
Yet more waiting for Mighty Aphro to apologize for her spin.
Yet more proof that neo-consesrvatives refuse to take responsibility for their own actions.

You have merged two strawman arguments into one.
First, Fox News’ web site lists Snow as an anchor. If you disagree, you might want to take it up with them. I didn’t say it, they did.
Second, Rush Limbaugh, & Michael Savage do not present news and/or coordinate correspondents, but merely comment on the events -as you already pointed out. The whole discussion, and maybe you missed it, was whether or not John Snow was a news anchor. At this point, I am going to direct you again to the Fox News website, where they say he anchors a newscast.

Why is this issue so important to you? Who cares whether or not he is an anchor.

April 19th, 2006 at 6:40 pmIt makes sense that when Bush needs to replace a media representative, he would draw from the media wing of his administration, Fox News!
April 19th, 2006 at 7:27 pmGrgrrrrr, I suppose you think Dan Blather was an unbiased News Anchor. The operative word is unbiased. (As a kid, my mom and dad didn’t tune in to Rather of Reynolds for their OPINIONS - they tuned in to find out what was going on. Most intelligent people realize if they listen of watch Tony Snow, he will be imparting HIS opinion or take on issues. The operative word is intelligent…..

April 19th, 2006 at 10:59 pmwill eat up his propaganda lies > plus they think Tony can flirt with Helen Thomas to get her distracted from asking tough questions >lol.

If you don’t like John Snow being called an “anchor” move to action, call FoxNews, complaint and get them to change his job title. But then, that’s what most intelligent people would do. You are right, the operative word is definitely “intelligent”…
April 19th, 2006 at 11:48 pmLay off MA, she’s right Snow and Fox have nothing to do with news, it’s a disgrace to even mention news and those two in the same breath. Snow and Fox are shameless shills. MA does what ALL right wingers do. They get you riled up over some mundane issue so they don’t have to face the real issue: That Fox and anyone who is affiliated with them should be ashamed to call themselves a news person. It’s like in the old days when Al Capone used to “HIRE” NEWSPAPER MEN to write the news in their favor. Besides everyone knows that the right man for the job is Sean Hannity

April 20th, 2006 at 7:36 amIt’s impossible after what this admin has done to the nation to be a supporter of Bush and refer that you are intelligent! IT DOESN’T PASS THE SMELL TEST!
April 20th, 2006 at 8:46 amWHAT? The White House is thinking about PAYING Fox to tell their stories now?
April 20th, 2006 at 10:38 amM.A. I only mentioned Tony Snow not the “fat ” Limbaugh, Savage Beast or (M)ann Coulter. Read my post again. Apparently you didn’t get the message.
April 20th, 2006 at 12:05 pmFox news is the only news station that is balanced. When they tell stories they give both sides of the story and let me decide. The other stations state their liberal views as fact when in fact it is not. Fox news has the most viewers for that reason. Look at the others. Look at CBS telling lies and Dan almost getting fired for it. Look at CNN and how they don’t even come close to a real story.
Tony is honest and caring family man. Go Tony. I hope he gets the job.
I stumbled accross this board. I am very concerned and even frightened by many of the comments on this board. I know the educational system in this country was bad but I never knew it was this bad.

[…] One of the few active bl blogs, Paiderastia was shut down closely following a public attack aired by FOX, the unbiased news network that straightforwardly airs O’Reilly as a “no spin zone” and produces prime candidates for the White House press secretary Tony Snow. The attack was issued by the extremely qualified Stacy Harp, qualified by being a politically active christian conservative with a “bibliocentric worldview” who graduated with honors in human development at some unnamed college. You can view the entire attack on free speech here. […]
April 24th, 2006 at 7:13 pmStrictly a first class move. Tony Snow just puts it out there like it is and he does it with intelligence and grace and honesty. A rare guy. GO TONY!
April 25th, 2006 at 2:02 pmI agree totally with: Strictly a first class move. Tony Snow just puts it out there like it is and he does it with intelligence and grace and honesty. A rare guy. GO TONY!
Give him a chance!!!
April 25th, 2006 at 10:38 pmThis is wonderful!!!! Tony is a super great guy, and a very very honest man just like the rest of Fox News.
April 25th, 2006 at 10:44 pmTony recently battled with cancer, he is courageous. He also has a good sense of humor. He has worked in the Reagan and Bush Sr. white houses, on top of being an employee of Foxs News radio and television. One of the few talk radio personalities that never seems to be in a bad mood or rude to the the people who call in. Just my two cents.

April 26th, 2006 at 5:51 pmI thought it was a good choice. Tony is charismatic, honest and an overall good person. His media experience will assist the media with reporting the news instead of the unpatriotic crap that usually harms America - i.e. torture prisons etc… We need to torture those who will unleash nukes upon us, torture them until they beg for Allah…….
