40M gallons causing a price increase? We burn that off in an hour.

Gas prices are purely supply and demand. If there are more users than producers, than the price goes up. We pay Oprah Winfrey, Howard Stern, and Tom Cruise HUNDREDS of Millions of dollars for 1-2 hours of entertainment that I would argue we could all survive without. But big oil makes a lousy 6-7 cents profit on the dollar, which is comparable to Starbucks and Evian (The Feds make 18 cents a galllon and New York Sate makes 44.5 cents) by employing hundreds of thousands of people around the world, putting heating and air conditioning into our homes, and providing the petroleum that makes damm near everthing we use, and you want to string them up. (Plus oil profits go into nearly everyones 401K or mutual fund for retirement.) Again, if you want lower prices at the pump, let them go find and make more energy. More supply, lower prices.

The escalating gas prices and soaring profits are largely due to Bush increasing the US strategic oil reserves by 40 million gallons. We are placed in a position of competing with our own government at the pump, the government in turn paying with our own tax dollars. We are double-screwed.

So basically they're admitting that gasoline prices are totally speculative, based on what investors and oil barons feel like they can get away with.

It has to be liberals fault, i mean i am so glad we got Bush in office, heck that $1.07 a gallon gasoline under clinton was getting SO tiresome!

Considering that nearly all progressively liberal countries charge almost twice as much for gas as the United States, and nearly all the countries that are cheaper than the United States are the Petroleum Producing countires, I would say we're in a pretty good position. I was paying $3/gal in Scotland 10 years ago.

A few facts ALWAYS left off the table by Liberals. We have added 70 Million Americans to the country since the last major Refinery came on line and the last Nuke plant was built. That's a 33% increase in users and a 0% increase in producers. Now add the fact that 2.5 BILLION Chinese and Indians are getting off their bicycles and are putting out their campfires, and you are creating another 100% increase in worldwide demand.

You can blame Bush all you want, but no-one, and I mean no-one, will stop the rise in gas as long as we continue to hold up the energy companies from finding and producing more of it. That means petro, nuke, wind, whatever. You either want gas and will allow the companies to go get it. Or you don't and your happy walking.

I personally blame high gas prices on the relationship between the spinning numbers towards the top of the gas pump as compared to the spinning numbers that are generally placed somewhat lower on the gas pump. High electric bills are a similar problem, it is a single wheel that spins horizontally inside a box on the outside of most homes, slowing this wheel down will solve the economic problems of the middle and lower classes.

Nobody is buying their line of bullshit anymore. Especially this gross lie of an excuse by Snow. I guess the main prerequisite for service in the Bush Administration is the ability to look people squarely in the face and tell boldface lies without thinking twice about it...they found their man.

OMG. ROTFLMAO. They never cease to amaze. Yep, the generals knew the price of fuel would go up the minute they started to dog rummy. Maybe Tony should look at what his boy Bush has actually done. This is a direct result of us being in Iraq and the arrogant, hardline stance he is taking with respect to Iran. And don't forget how much he hates Hugo Chavez. Will someone please put a straightjacket on Bush and put him in a padded room forever. I don't know how much more of this I can take. You know it would actually be funny if it weren't so scary that these people think this way. Denial ain't just a river.

Looks like somebody already did, Brian; right before you came online. Can't vouch for Mr. Rader's "liberalness" one way or the other, though.

Regardless of one's political bias, energy conservation in the US remains virtually unenforceable except by price. That makes oil corporations the only gatekeepers and -- understandably -- they want the jitters over Iran -- and Venezuela -- to go away about as much as Eskimos want palm trees to grow in Alaska. That much most people have first-hand experience with in the oil business.

But if Tony Snow wants to blame somebody I don't know why he continues to give Rumsfeld a free pass -- or Bush, for that matter. Liberal, Conservative, or "Know-Nothing," Rumsfeld's misplanning for the Iraq War has given even ice-water veined, steel-nerved military leaders the jitters. Taking Iran off the oil market with military attacks doesn't require an in-depth knowledge of the oil industry to see the disaster that'd ensue. An MD with a residency in Psychiatry might be of enormous value, though.

You know how bad a "bleeding-heart" conservative sounds. About as bad as a "bleeding-heart" liberal. Snow lately has done more whining on Fox than anybody else because the neocons are in real trouble and he can't cope with it. Worse, he might have to stop being a pundit and work for a living.
