Just heard that China commits at least 80% of the worlds executions. This is a country that puts people to death for even non-violent crimes such as tax evasion. (Imagine the US executing tax evaders). We should not be clicking wine glasses with China and we should boycott products made in China. This (China) is a country that has no human rights. This is a country that shots to kill it’s own unarmed citizens if they protest against the Chinese government. China is not much different than Nazi Germany and yet Bush&Co is making buddies with China’s dictator. What the hell, what’s one more dictator to befriend?
#11 ~ i agree, if i stop buying any thing made in china, i could save a bundle! i’ll start checking the labels more carefully. walmart seems to stock almost all made in china crap,
sooooo what ever happened to the walmart ~ made in the usa~ slogan!
they probably made the banners in china anyways…… !
No surprise at all. Jeb Bush referred to our country as a Republic (in fact we live in a Parliamentary Monarchy)… The world is used to those (american) mistakes… ;)
#21. The government of Taiwan considers itself to be the only legitimate government of China. In 1949, Chiang Kai-shek was defeated on the mainland. He took his army and the government that it served across the channel and continued to “govern” China from the island. Thus, Taiwan has no need to declare itself “independent,” as it is and always has been “the government,” and those in Beijing are the usurpers. If anything, according to their outlook, the PRC should declare itself independent of Taiwan.

Thanks for the background, pete. I was aware that Chiang Kai Shek considered himself a government from exile, of sorts. What I meant to say is that there is a nationalist party in Taiwan whose main goal is to formally declare the Republic of Taiwan as an independent nation (I don’t recall the name of the political party).
This is a big deal for China -they are ready to further their “One China” policy with military force if they have to. And that’s why calling the People’s Republic of China “Republic of China” is a major diplomatic no-no.
Nice way to treat a guest. Now other world leaders see how disrepectfull and dumb our President is. The United States Presidents use to treat guest with respect and welcomed them here now our President shows disrespect and lets the world know how dumb he is. These tricks of trying to shame President Hu Jintao didn’t work but it showed others what to expect when they come to visit the United States.
At least they got the music right, I hope. Imagine if they gave the wrong country name and then played “China Grove” or Bowie’s “China Girl”. Now that would have created an international incident. And would have been not all that surprising.
They failed to listen to advisers regarding matters of intelligence gathering, they catnap at press conferences – you can’t expect them to be too attentive to matters regarding protocol.
I have been looking for sites like this for a long time. Thank you!

April 20th, 2006 at 7:18 pmI doubt this was a mistake. It’s no secret China wants to annex Taiwan. Kinda witty, really.
Now if Bush would let the Chinese president face the press’ sarcasm… I mean wit.

China considers Taiwan a province, and actually Taiwan has not issued a formal declaration of independence from China.
Makes no sense to me, but I guess that’s why I am no politician…
