Peggy Noonan:

By Nico Pitney on Apr 20th, 2006 at 1:25 pm

Peggy Noonan:

“Inside the White House they say, ‘We think big.’ Maybe. But maybe they’re not thinking. They say, ‘We’re bold.’ But maybe they’re just unknowing, which is not the same thing. The bold weigh the price and pay it, get the lay of the land and move within it. The dreamy just spurt along on emotions.

Okay, who switched the real Peggy Noonan with the pod version?

  2. Hardy Haberman says:

Even Noonan knows Bush is headed blindly toward Armegeddon. Someone has to stop him, maybe the right wing will wake up too and pull his chain. Impeachment can be a bipartisan issue.

  3. LeisureGuy says:

This is the same Peggy Noonan who had such high praise for Bush as a thinker, a leader, a great man?

  4. And28 says:

I think this has been coming ever since she went on the Colbert Report and Colbert asked her: “What’s the one thing in this second term you look at that makes you think, ‘wow, I’m so glad I helped him get re-elected’?” That question almost made her head explode.

  5. Pete Bogs says:

    mmm… dreamy spurt…

  6. Zookeeper says:

One by one, they leave the chimp…

  7. ElectricBassPlayer says:

WHY DOES PEGGY NOONAN HATE AMERICA?!

#3, at least she doesn’t collect and display photographs of George W. Bush’s hands, like Josh Bolten reportedly does. (Creepy to the max, huh? Eww!)

  8. GSD says:

    It’s Noonan in America.

Oh, man. I missed that? Damn.

Noonan is a real whackjob but I think what has really pushed her over the edge is Bush’s posturing as Reagan’s heir and screwing it up so bad. Old RR was and is her wet dream.

  10. Krazny says:

I would like to see the whole article by noonan, I am worried they are leaving some stuff out and cherry picking the parts where she slams bush.

  11. pbg says:

    Krazny:
you mean they cherry-picked the part about dreamy spurting??

    I’m sorry: I just can’t stand it….

  12. Jack says:

It is a good assessment of this White House. But isn’t Bush the leader of this administration, and thus these are the people he has brought (remember he doesn’t appoint for talent, he appoints for loyalty and political favoritism), and didn’t Peggy Noonan help Bush in the 2004 election.

  13. Wisco says:

That last bit about ‘the dreamy’ is odd. The administration is run by a bunch of moonie utopians. The neocon philosophy is just a dreamy idealism. To compare the Bush administration with ‘the dreamy’ is comparing apples to apples.

The dreamy just spurt along on emotions.

Is she talking about her own gushy past efforts? Sure sounds ironic coming from Peg.

  15. calif4nian says:

Republicans are starting to hate America too? Seriously, now that he’s tanking and the incompetence and corrpution are too obvious to be ignored, we’re hearing some on the right speak up. Keep ‘em coming.

  16. Jane E. Schneider says:

Alan, #9, you would have been more surprised if you had seen her on Colbert, she was all tricked out in a leather outfit!

    Hmmm, dreamy spurt….(Homer drools)

  17. Paul in Mexico says:

Reports are coming out of the White House that no one can convince Georgie Porgie of anything. He refuses to listen to advice from ANYONE.

He has already had a run-in with his new pet project, Bolten, who is trying to tell him he must get in front of the people and tell them the truth about a myriad of things.

This whole shakeup was Roves idea, and it seems that Bushie Boy is not even listening to his old partner in crime.

    # 5 Pete:
I can’t figure out if you’re being funny or nasty.

  20. Mocha Dem says:

This was my favorite part of article – I laughed out loud

“The president has taken, those around him say, great comfort in biographies of previous presidents. All presidents do this. They all take comfort in the fact that former presidents now seen as great were, in their time, derided, misunderstood, underestimated. No one took the measure of their greatness until later. This is all very moving, but: Message to all biography-reading presidents, past present and future: Just because they call you a jackass doesn’t mean you’re Lincoln.”

  21. Bush Bites says:

#9. That’s a good point. Hell, if we just kept calling Bush part of “Reagan’s legacy,” the Reaganites themselves would destroy Bush. They hate him representing their man now that his failure is becoming evident.

She’s right, though: The Bushies used to brag in the first term that they “didn’t manage events, they made them.” Being a “change agent” is all well and good, but if you throw yourself into every cauldron, you very quickly lose perspective and judgment, and just wind up roiling with every new event instead of having the clear-headedness to pick the spots where you get the most benefit for the cost.

  22. Cyra Brown says:

Is it to much to hope that some ‘Dreamer’ was ‘emotional’ on some carefully preserved garment, somewhere? GROSS!!! I do apologize, but I just HAD to say it!!
