Then again, it’s typical for neo-cons to have their heads firmly planted in the ground. Or another part of their anatomy.
Bush is an incompetent president. Utterly incompetent. This poll reflects that people can see through his charade to the underlying lies and corruption.

Do you really think that any of your pitiful 32%-ers will really want to nuke Iran on the off-chance that they’ll have their own nuke in 2-10 years? Yeah, right! It’s too bad that you don’t live in Nevada, maybe they’ll test that 700-ton bomb under you.

but what are we going to do, wait for them to come over here with their WMDs and strike at us.
Wha?? If this is your logic, nobody in the world is safe. Why wait for India to strike the US? After all, they do have nuclear bombs and the capability to deliver them. Iran doesn’t have either.
This is a post 9/11 world and oceans no longer protect us.
Apparently in this post-911 world, neither the oceans, nor the laws protect anyone anymore.
I am unsure if Ray could get anymore useless rush talking points into that statement.
“they hate us for our freedom”
no Ray they hate us for supporting Isreal, they hate us for the crusades, they hate us for destroying the Ottoman empire, and carving up the middle east into its current countries after WWI. They hate us for backing maniacal dictators like the shah of Iran, and Saddam Hussen. I could go on and on and on. some of these things obviously are more of a what has europe done to the middle east and less what the US has done, but in the mind of the average middle easterner the US is western christian civilization. Please educate yourself beyond Rush Limbaugh before you post.
If I hear one of these idiotoc republicans talk about a post 9-11 world I swear I will vomit! Democrats were living in a “post 9-11″ prior to 9-11. That is if by post 9-11 they mean seeking to protect the US from terrorist attacks. This is why Clinton had Clarke. This is why he had daily briefings regarding the security of the US. And of course Bush comes in and he has how many security meetings prior to 9-11?
Bush cares as much about protecting this country as he does about his friends reducing the price of oil. Now only 32% of the US with either IQ’s as low as Bush’s or bank accounts as big as his believe in him.
#19: Bush is not a good Christian. He ignores the poor while channeling tax refunds to the wealthy. He lets children die in the U.S. because they have no healthcare. He has allowed the number of people in poverty in America to increase year after year in his presidency. Those people would be Christ’s top priority.
But they won’t go without a good strong shove from Democratic challengers and us, we the people.
One such challenger giving a strong shove to a particularly repugnant republican congressman is Kirsten Gillibrand in NY’s 20th district. Kirsten is building quite a strong campaign and her’s exactly the kind of race we need to win in order to pick up the 15 seats we need to regain control of the House.
So how low can he go before he gets dumped - or investigated - or indicted? Rolling Stone ran an article stating 82% of historians think he is the worst president in history, and they are going back much farther than Nixon.
12% think he is doing all right but only insofar as he can muster public support of his disastrous policies. And 10% jest that he is the best president since Bill Clinton.
We can all feel validated by his sinking popularity, but what does that get us?
Are we any closer to ousting him? Are we any closer to halting his crusade to rule the world? Are we any closer to rescuing America before he ruins it entirely?
I will hold on for dear life during the next 1000 days, as I hope to see him and his administration being tried for war crimes. But even if that comes to pass, what irreversible damage will he have wrought iin desperation during his last throes?
How not very embarrassing it is to have a Chief Executive with an approval rating lower than Michael Jordan’s shoe size.
I’ve just posted Krugman’s and Herbert’s latest articles. Couldn’t do it this morning because blogger was cranky.
This is also to let you guys know that I’m done with blogging for a while, perhaps forever. You want to know why, you’ll have to email me. My blog shouldn’t be for whining and complaining about my personal state. Suffice it to say that I’m tired of the politics of political blogging and I’m not very impressed with some of the A list blogs these days (present company excepted). So there won’t be an Assclowns of the Week this w/e. I’m done, through, kaput. So enjoy Bob’s and Paul’s bylines because they’re the last fucking ones that I’ll be posting for a long time, maybe forever.
I am NOT surprised because Bush is the worst president in history! He doesn’t care about polls or he would resign! Instead he intends to attack Iran igniting WWIII which eventually will drop his approval to rock bottom 25% > guys like I-R-I who are Nazi loving fascists!
LOL! There is nothing you can do about it though. That same poll showed Democrats actually losing ground in the congressional ballot!
While the White House uses their power to hit back and hit back hard at left-wing traitors like McCarthy and her MSM allies, the GOP will continue to paint the Democrats as the party of hate and no solutions.
You don’t have the votes to do anything with that 32% approval rating. You may not have them in November either. That has to bother the radical left! LOL!!! YOU DON’T HAVE THE VOTES!
She saw that our government was acting not only illegally and immorally, but hypocritically, too. She felt it was important to expose our government for the wrongdoers that they are. I really get sick of hearing people say that revealing this kind of classified information is harmful to our national security. That’s just plain bullshit! Our national security would suffer greater harm if people found out we were breaking international law. Why is exposing the wrongdoing more harmful than the wrongdoing itself? We (the USA) were breaking the law and we were denying it and accusing anyone who said otherwise of being unpatriotic. Then when the truth came out and, as is so often the case, it didn’t match what President Bush and his people were saying, their reaction was to arrest the messenger.
This president deserves no respect whatsoever. I have more respect for President Bush’s desk than I do for him as a person, but only because the desk is in the Oval Office.
#47 - Let me get this straight - Mary McCarthy is a traitor for leaking illegal detention facilities? I assume that means you think it’s patriotic to torture?
Just so you guys know. Bush was protested here in Irvine, CA today. A “republican stronghold” as reported by NPR. I was there. I never thought I would see that many people in Irvine, CA protest against Bush.
You know what the problem is? All of our bases have been closed, so Bush couldn’t have his “dress right dress” audience.
lets talk to some soldiers in Iraq right now. lets talk to Black soldiers from the south..to find out how they feel about their leaders.
i wonder what the veterans from louisiana will say about patriotism when they come back to actually see with their own eyes..the rampant disregard for poor black folks from this administration.
or maybe its all in our imagination…and they’re doing everything than can to help impoverished American citizens attain the same freedoms they promise to Iraqis..
McCarthy is a traitor who was willing to sacrifice national security for political gain. Much worse than outing a media whore liar’s CIA wife. We will choke you with her actions. Hearings…. Scandal and more scandal…
I begged liberals not to criminalize politics, but you did anyway. Now you pay and now you lose!
I would also think that you find Bush and Cheney to be traitors for also leaking classified information to the press about supposed WMD findings in Iraq?
Post 47 you are definately in the rock bottom group who support Bush even if he ate puppies on TV! Wow did Dubya promise a concentration camp guard job for you huh?
He doesn’t do anything. And what he has touched has broken severely. He doesn’t have any vision, solutions, or leadership, and he seems to only appoint political operative yes-men, who have neither the experience or knowledge to do the jobs.
It was really pathetic watching him talk about gas prices. He was so dismissive, that’s the way it is, they are going higher, too bad, I haven’t a clue what to do about it. He was totally out of his league. But why should we be surprised, he hasn’t had to really work for anything his entire life. He is not the man to be running this great country.
The whole thing with our energy situation is so maddening. If our politicians, yes, Democrats and Republicans, took the initiative beginning in the 70’s we might have alternatives now. It is like this country can’t do anything these days unless it becomes critical mass, the tipping point. We don’t have a plan whether it is Iraq war exit, healthcare, education, environment, energy, retirement accts (can’t just have one, we have to have one created whenever politicians feel like creating one), we just meander along and when we hit a rock we throw money and contractors at it and maybe it’ll work.
This president deserves no respect whatsoever. I have more respect for President Bush’s desk than I do for him as a person….

Well, if you can’t respect the man, you gotta respect the wife. Laura’s been putting up with his tired shit for 29 years now. I wonder if, deep down, she is one of the 32%.
#54 - you are a silly, silly child. go back to redstate.org where there are like-minded idiots that believe your stupid, childish, non-sensical arguments. may i suggest you go take a logical reasoning course? i’m sure you can get into a decent community college. it might help with your deficit in logical reasoning. leave the grownups to argue the issues here.
#60 And I wonder if, even deeper down, she isn’t one of the 68%.
The kids are grown now, Laura. It’s time to leave that sham of a marriage you got yourself into and go live your own life. Don’t worry about George. For reasons passing understanding, we take good care of all of our ex-presidents, whether we liked them or not. I guess that’s just a little motivation for someone else to take the job.
32% have the mentality of Bush, Anvilhead, IRI and the latest RayFromGA
Iran does not have a problem with the american people , It wants to have peace with the american people its just Bush and 32% in the way of holding a sensible conversation with Iran - its good to talk
Mary writes: LOL! There is nothing you can do about it though. That same poll showed Democrats actually losing ground in the congressional ballot!
Nice try Mary. Where exactly did you see that? It doesn’t appear that the percentages have changed beyond the margin of error and CNN states that it is basically unchanged from August. If you look at the PDF version, it seems the numbers have held relatively steady for quite some time. Does it make you ‘LOL’ when you see that the republicans are hovering around 38-40% vs. the dems at 50-53%?
#59 - what a fool you are. Sad sad boot licking fascist piece-of-work you are.
OPEN your eyes! Read what Christ had to say about the poor - and compare to what you so called Christian President has done for them. Judge by their actions - not by what they say - and thus you will recoqnize the anti-christ. Would you like to be picked off the street - and with no trial and oversight be sent to a country where they will torture you in unspeakable ways - and YOU HAVE NO RECOURSE. Cannot happen to you? Do not be so sure, what goes around comes around and if we are foolish enough to nuke Iran - the world will not sit idlely by. As powerful as our military is we cannot take on the entire world. We may destroy the entire planet fighting back - either way - idiots like you exclaiming you were wroing will be of no solace for those of us who knew all along that our beloved country was/is being looted and destroyed.
wake up - you cannot be that stupid can you?
McCarthy allegedly leaked ILLEGAL activities, but as a whistle blower, she will pay the price of whistle blowers against Bush and his policies of torture and abuse.
However, today McCarthy denies that she is the leaker to the Post. This story has not yet been fully told.
#59 The left didn’t have to do a thing, he F’d this up all on his own. Just like everyother thing he has touched in his life. The loser, born on third base…
I agree with you that this administration will do all they can to discredit her and totally denounce her as a person without any regard for the rightness of what was done (whether it was actually her or not). This is how this administration prioritizes things. If they’re doing something illegal, then it is immoral to expose them. They think that to oppose them is to oppose America. They remind me of DeGaulle and his “I am the state” remark. Maybe the context isn;t correct, but the remark sure fits the Bush people like a glove. They are putting themselves higher than the offices which they occupy. And for them, disloyalty to the person holding the office is worse than disloyalty to the office, even if that person has already displayed more disrespect and disloyalty to that officve than anything we’ve ever done.
I remember during Watergate that some Nixon fans held out until the very end and were even saying that Tricky Dick was being crucified on the night he resigned.
gregor’s got it right-
india, with the largest population of muslims of any country (around 140 million), should have been our first target, by ray’s logic. i mean, they do have nukes, don’t they?
I would like to see just who is giving GWBush their support. He’s alienated everybody lately, including conservatives and KKK members with his immigration reform push. And his stance on the exorbitant profits of oil companies while record high gas prices continue to soar is just plain sorry.
W’s going down and it looks like he’s bringing the GOP down with him.
“If our politicians, yes, Democrats and Republicans, took the initiative beginning in the 70’s we might have alternatives now. ”
Well, Carter tried to address this when we got hit with the 1st embargo, but Bush-Reagan took care of that when they came to power. Bush (Reagan was , of course, clueless) dismantled the Department of Energy and negotiated cheap oil with his buds in Saudia Arabia. “Morning in America”. Now we have Dimson and “Evening in America”. We lost 35 years because there was too much money to be made by Bush Republicans to keep us dependent on ME oil.
I was wondering what trolls would show up for this one. Congratulations Ray and Mary, you have out-losered IRI. You are the new idiots on Thinkprogress!! Congratulations!!
Tony Snow the FOX News whore has been given the job of White House spokesman! He is the new propaganda spinner for the Bush Regime and they think he will lie better than Scotty >lol.
Now this doesn’t sound Christian like at the moment, but what are we going to do, wait for them to come over here with their WMDs and strike at us. This is a post 9/11 world and oceans no longer protect us.
Nah. I have a better idea. We’ll send you over single-handed, and let you, our brave ‘Merkun soldjer, do it all by your own lonesone. Think of the accolades, the laurels you’ll get … not to mention all the babes. Go for it, Ray. A Darwin’s not out of reach….
Now only 32% of the US with either IQ’s as low as Bush’s or bank accounts as big as his believe in him.
Hmmm. Interesting. At this point, have we reached a 1-to-1 ratio if the percentage of Dubya supporters and the mean IQ of those that do so? Not sure such is possible with a standard distribution. Maybe some mathematician or statistician should look into this….
#73, I predict that, as a result of these “investigations” the resident and republicans have called for, they will find a sacrificial goat (no offense to real goats, of course) in a low-lying (read that as many ways as you please) Congressional aide or even a member of Congress. They will never go after any of the oil industry CEOs. You never bite the hand that lines your pockets.
Gas/oil prices will magically plummet back down to around$2.00/gal. These corrupt creatures will pat each other on the back and say “See, what good boys we are?” All in time for the November polls.
They still will not have fixed anything beyond another election.
I have given this alot of thought, but I am just as confused now, as I was before. BushCo wants to attack another country that is no threat to us, based on some far in the future hypothetical situation they have chosen to offer up, as reason for needing to go to it NOW RIGHT NOW!!! They want Nukes! They want to build them! They will use them on us!!
Iran has done nothing wrong. As signatories of the NPT, they are allowed to develop the components for the production of Nuclear Energy. It is legal. The U.S. are not signatories of the NPT at this time. George W. Bush declined to do so. Because he wanted to be free to call for the creation of a brand new nuke that he can use to destroy underground “Bunkers”, in countries that HE has decided may be a threat to the U.S., true or not. We then become the very thing that he believes Iran to be. How does this make sense?? To me, HE is the one we should all be afraid of, and I am. The Congress needs to take the keys away from him NOW!!! He is far too unstable, and too prone to acting irrationally to be “The Decider” about using nukes. I hope the UN would be willing to use a ‘choke chain’ on him, just in case. HELP!!!!
#94 - I agree with your assessment. What I think is very disingenuous is the whole time that Pres. Bush was decrying the “leak of classified informationâ€, he’s the one who was behind the whole thing. It defies logic how he can claim that he declassified the information while at the same time crying over the “leak of classified informationâ€.
I guess, in neo-con world, you can complain over your own actions.
dr sinker, that was so funny about the comment of Adam and Eve riding to work on dinos. i laughed out loud. like most comedy it is best when there is a grain a truth and creates a silly image. thanks for the laugh. i will try to brighton someone’s day like you did for me!
Even when Bush’s approval polls drop to 25% the GOP idiots in DC will keep supporting him and Democrat wussies will still be too frightened to demand his impeachment! All the clowns in DC must be thrown out in November!
You know, I haven’t heard a Republican Kool-Aid chugger say that the poll numbers “really aren’t that bad”. They’d always pull a “But Clinton!” and say that at one time his approval rating was 37. Bush’s approval rating has been below that for months now. The Republicans would also fail to say that Clinton left office as one of the most popular presidents ever with approval ratings of 60+ percent. No way in Hell does Bush leave office with numbers even close to that.

1. We were greated like liberators in Iraq, and Rumsfeld deserves a raise.
2. The government response to Katrina was exceptional, but the media lied to the public about it like they always do.
3. Any criticism of Bush can be traced back to terrorist links, or communist ties.
4. There are lots of benefits to global warming that people just forget about.

Bush cares as much about protecting this country as he does about his friends reducing the price of oil. Now only 32% of the US with either IQ’s as low as Bush’s or bank accounts as big as his believe in him.
April 24th, 2006 at 5:14 pmBush is not worried, Cheney is at 18% and Bush does not see him worry.
Besides Bush can’t even count to 32 even with his shoes off….
April 24th, 2006 at 5:21 pm#19: Bush is not a good Christian. He ignores the poor while channeling tax refunds to the wealthy. He lets children die in the U.S. because they have no healthcare. He has allowed the number of people in poverty in America to increase year after year in his presidency. Those people would be Christ’s top priority.
April 24th, 2006 at 5:22 pmBesides Bush can’t even count to 32 even with his shoes off…. lol Clif
April 24th, 2006 at 5:23 pmAnd he’s taking republican congressmen with him.
Kirsten’s is the 15th seat.
April 24th, 2006 at 5:25 pmare you guys worried the president will let Another Disaster happen so he can get his poll numbers up?
April 24th, 2006 at 5:27 pm#35 - If I hear one of these idiotoc republicans talk about a post 9-11 world I swear I will vomit!

Don’t read #19, but if you choose to do so, step away from the keyboard!
April 24th, 2006 at 5:28 pm#41 - Zookeeper - Thanks but too late. is what got me started!
April 24th, 2006 at 5:30 pmSo how low can he go before he gets dumped - or investigated - or indicted?
April 24th, 2006 at 5:31 pmRolling Stone ran an article stating 82% of historians think he is the worst president in history, and they are going back much farther than Nixon.
April 24th, 2006 at 5:36 pmI am NOT surprised because Bush is the worst president in history! He doesn’t care about polls or he would resign! Instead he intends to attack Iran igniting WWIII which eventually will drop his approval to rock bottom 25% > guys like I-R-I who are Nazi loving fascists!
April 24th, 2006 at 5:40 pmThat’s because his message is getting out.
April 24th, 2006 at 5:48 pmLOL!
April 24th, 2006 at 5:49 pmBut he’s a uniter, not a divider, and a decider! How can this be?
April 24th, 2006 at 5:51 pmPonies all around!
When will it drop below the Nixon line, into the 20s? Any guess?
April 24th, 2006 at 5:52 pmMary McCarthy is NOT a traitor!
April 24th, 2006 at 5:56 pm#47 - Let me get this straight - Mary McCarthy is a traitor for leaking illegal detention facilities? I assume that means you think it’s patriotic to torture?
LOL indeed. Bozo.
April 24th, 2006 at 5:56 pmJust so you guys know.
There is hope.
April 24th, 2006 at 5:57 pmf*&& the approval rating.
lets talk to some soldiers in Iraq right now. lets talk to Black soldiers from the south..to find out how they feel about their leaders.
i wonder what the veterans from louisiana will say about patriotism when they come back to actually see with their own eyes..the rampant disregard for poor black folks from this administration.
or maybe its all in our imagination…and they’re doing everything than can to help impoverished American citizens attain the same freedoms they promise to Iraqis..
April 24th, 2006 at 5:58 pmMcCarthy is a traitor who was willing to sacrifice national security for political gain. Much worse than outing a media whore liar’s CIA wife. We will choke you with her actions. Hearings…. Scandal and more scandal…
I begged liberals not to criminalize politics, but you did anyway. Now you pay and now you lose!
April 24th, 2006 at 5:59 pmI would also think that you find Bush and Cheney to be traitors for also leaking classified information to the press about supposed WMD findings in Iraq?
April 24th, 2006 at 5:59 pmPost 47 you are definately in the rock bottom group who support Bush even if he ate puppies on TV! Wow did Dubya promise a concentration camp guard job for you huh?
April 24th, 2006 at 6:02 pm#47
Oh,looky, one of the 32%’ers Brian mentioned just showed up.
April 24th, 2006 at 6:02 pmI am sorry for your disability….. right now there is no real cure for you.
April 24th, 2006 at 6:04 pmBush promised to protect the country from left-wing brownshirts who would kill women and children if meant destroying Bush politically.
You don’t have the votes to stop what is going to happen leading up to the election. The left-wing witch hunt is going to backfire in your face.
April 24th, 2006 at 6:05 pmThis president deserves no respect whatsoever. I have more respect for President Bush’s desk than I do for him as a person….

Well, if you can’t respect the man, you gotta respect the wife. Laura’s been putting up with his tired shit for 29 years now. I wonder if, deep down, she is one of the 32%.
April 24th, 2006 at 6:05 pm#54 - you haven’t answered the question: do you think torture is patriotic? Someone please punt the troll.
Incidentally, Mary denies she’s the source:

April 24th, 2006 at 6:05 pm#54 - you are a silly, silly child. go back to redstate.org where there are like-minded idiots that believe your stupid, childish, non-sensical arguments. may i suggest you go take a logical reasoning course? i’m sure you can get into a decent community college. it might help with your deficit in logical reasoning. leave the grownups to argue the issues here.
April 24th, 2006 at 6:06 pmWhen the president’s approval rating drops to 1%, our friend in #47 will still be one of them.

April 24th, 2006 at 6:12 pm32% have the mentality of Bush, Anvilhead, IRI and the latest RayFromGA
Iran does not have a problem with the american people , It wants to have peace with the american people its just Bush and 32% in the way of holding a sensible conversation with Iran - its good to talk
April 24th, 2006 at 6:13 pmDude, seriously, take some of your meds. Do you have any idea how looney you sound?
April 24th, 2006 at 6:13 pmMary writes: LOL!
April 24th, 2006 at 6:13 pmMary again: McCarthy is a traitor who was willing to sacrifice national security for political gain.
Tell us Mary, how is it that McCarthy will gain politically from this disclosure?

April 24th, 2006 at 6:39 pmOPEN your eyes!
April 24th, 2006 at 6:39 pmHowever, today McCarthy denies that she is the leaker to the Post. This story has not yet been fully told.

April 24th, 2006 at 6:52 pm#75 Marie,
I agree with you that this administration will do all they can to discredit her and totally denounce her as a person without any regard for the rightness of what was done (whether it was actually her or not).
Gotta run. See y’all tomorrow.
April 24th, 2006 at 6:56 pm#15 DS; Wrong place, it’s not the ground where neocons have their heads buried. It’s up their own asses of evil. They like the view from there.
April 24th, 2006 at 7:19 pmI remember during Watergate that some Nixon fans held out until the very end and were even saying that Tricky Dick was being crucified on the night he resigned.
I expect the same this time around.
April 24th, 2006 at 7:22 pmgregor’s got it right-
india, with the largest population of muslims of any country (around 140 million), should have been our first target, by ray’s logic. i mean, they do have nukes, don’t they?
c’mon, is this a real good old-fashioned crusade, or what? don’t forget, the REAL fun begins when we officially decide they are less-than-human, and therefore edible…
ahhh, republican values!
April 24th, 2006 at 7:37 pmI would like to see just who is giving GWBush their support. He’s alienated everybody lately, including conservatives and KKK members with his immigration reform push. And his stance on the exorbitant profits of oil companies while record high gas prices continue to soar is just plain sorry.
W’s going down and it looks like he’s bringing the GOP down with him.

April 24th, 2006 at 7:46 pm“If our politicians, yes, Democrats and Republicans, took the initiative beginning in the 70’s we might have alternatives now.
April 24th, 2006 at 7:55 pmIt should be 2% approval that would cover the rich.
April 24th, 2006 at 8:10 pmA new round of “shock and awe” against Iran will do nothing for Bush’s poll numbers. Most of us now see through the NeoCon bullshit.

Hmmm. Interesting. At this point, have we reached a 1-to-1 ratio if the percentage of Dubya supporters and the mean IQ of those that do so? Not sure such is possible with a standard distribution. Maybe some mathematician or statistician should look into this….
Cheers,
April 25th, 2006 at 1:07 amNext they will say that 32% is higher than the avg. of all President’s since Washington.
April 25th, 2006 at 2:06 amRayFromGA was probably joking. If you look at his post you can just see the sarcasm dripping from it.
Mary, not so much.
April 25th, 2006 at 5:17 am… is a traitor who was willing to sacrifice national security for political gain …
Comment by Mary McCarthy is a Traitor — April 24, 2006 @ 5:59 pm
I agree, it’s unforgiveable for a president to expose a CIA agent to divert attention from a critic.
April 25th, 2006 at 7:09 am#73, I predict that, as a result of these “investigations” the resident and republicans have called for, they will find a sacrificial goat (no offense to real goats, of course) in a low-lying (read that as many ways as you please) Congressional aide or even a member of Congress.
April 25th, 2006 at 8:39 amI have given this alot of thought, but I am just as confused now, as I was before.
HELP!!!!
April 25th, 2006 at 9:40 am#94 - I agree with your assessment.
April 25th, 2006 at 9:59 am#47 Who are you trying to convince, NeD?
April 25th, 2006 at 10:00 amdr sinker, that was so funny about the comment of Adam and Eve riding to work on dinos. i laughed out loud. like most comedy it is best when there is a grain a truth and creates a silly image. thanks for the laugh. i will try to brighton someone’s day like you did for me!
April 25th, 2006 at 10:09 amEven when Bush’s approval polls drop to 25% the GOP idiots in DC will keep supporting him and Democrat wussies will still be too frightened to demand his impeachment! All the clowns in DC must be thrown out in November!
April 25th, 2006 at 10:18 amYou know, I haven’t heard a Republican Kool-Aid chugger say that the poll numbers “really aren’t that bad”.
