I am not sure what you are trying to prove to yourself with this line of argument -if taxes were so abhorrent for conservatives, no Republican administration would have expanded or otherwise modified the tax code; they would have simply got rid of it.

The tax code is messy and complex thanks to contributions from both parties.

::Sigh:: You still haven’t read the IRS’ “Truth About Frivolous Arguments”. It is voluntary inasmuch as you choose when to file, and you are on your own when it comes to determining how much you owe. In other countries these are not voluntary, they are compulsory and taxes are taken out of your paycheck -no need to file.

This also fits the definition of voluntary: “Capable of making choices; having the faculty of will”, or “Done deliberately; intentional”. Of course there will be consequences if you don’t pay taxes; I cannot believe I am arguing semantics with you.

If you are penalized for doing/not doing something then it alters your decision making process towards an action(invalidates defintion 1), if you are penalized for doing/not doing something it means your are doing it with constraints (invalidates definition 2)
You have legal obligations towards taxes, invalidates definition 4

The third definition falls into unbelievables views on it, thats it’s all free will.

So basically, 3 out of 4, including the law definition claim taxes arn’t voluntary. If we use your links, we get two different gov’t views on it. One that it is voluntary, one that it isn’t.

And again you fail to understand that it is not me who is arguing it (just like with our discussion on freedom of speech). I am telling you what Congress, the IRS, etc. have said over the years. Please follow the link to the frivolous claims and read the IRS’ official statements on voluntary filing.

Not true.

For example… you have a choice whether or not you put your finger in the electrical outlet or not. If you chose to do so, you get shocked. That’s a negative consequence (at least, I hope you consider it negative :). It doesn’t make sticking your finger in the outlet not manditory becaue there are consequences. In life there are choices and consequences. Capisce?

So then it isn’t voluntary. You can’t argue it both ways.

If your penalized for not doing something it stops being voluntary. See above definitions.
