The latest FDA “science”

being used to block over-the-counter access to the emergency contraceptive Plan B: one agency researcher said the drug could “lead adolescents to form sex-based cults centered around the use of Plan B.” Back in reality, peer-reviewed studies have debunked this point, and also shown that 1.3 million abortions could be prevented if Plan B were available without a prescription.

  1. Hardy Haberman says:

The Federal Deception Agency is doing a bang up job of parroting the rantings of the fundamentalist fringe. Next they will go after birth control in general. Griswold vs. CN wil be back in the court before long.

  2. And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid says:

Where do I sign up for a sex-based cult??

  3. Jane E. Schneider says:

You’d think that the people who object so strongly to abortions would be happy about preventing so many abortions. Unfortunately, they’re the same people who want to control everyone’s sex life, too. What hypocrites!

Off-topic: Hardy, are you going to NYC on Saturday? Wayne and I are thinking about it (I’m a bit nervous, it’s been a long time since I’ve been “to the city”, as we say here in the ‘burbs. But I think it’s about time we put our feet where our mouths are…if you know what I mean!)

  4. Jules says:

Sex based cults? Only the Geriatric Old Perverts AKA the GOP could come up with this!!

  5. Oliver Willis » Republicans Push For More Abortions says:

[...] While at the same time whipping up fear about — I kid you not — “sex based cults”. Yet another perversion of our Food and Drug Administration. [...]

  6. Daniel DiRito says:

Looks like the FDA is also hot on the trail of my headache-based aspirin cult. I’ve got to hand it to the administration…this war on drugs is really starting to take off. What within a few more years, I would expect them to figure out these up and coming supplement-based vitamin C cults that are springing up in pediatric medical offices around the country.

    Way to go FDA!

  7. Michdem says:

Look if you guys would watch more 700 club we wouldn’t need contraceptives . The real question is how far are they willing to go to prevent unwanted pregnantcies , scary to think huh ?

  8. cats are flyfishn says:

Can’t wait to join one of those sex-based cults that are centered around Plan B.

What idiots. If they had a brain, they would be dangerous.

  9. Marie says:

Didn’t I hear similar arguments (sex-based parties, promiscuity, free love) when the birth control pills were first marketed?
Gad save us from the Bible-thumping puritans who inflict themselves on society – direct descendants in thought, word and deed from witch hunters of Salem, Massachusetts.

  10. Tundra says:

    FDA,

Another fine example of our government run agancies helping all of us to be the proper citizens we should be. I for one am proud that they are protecting me like this. My tax dollars well spent yet again.

  11. Clif says:

Marie if the christian right are so pious why do they think about the sexual aspect of everything and assume everyone else is constantly thinking about sex 24-7 also

  12. Jimi says:

I don’t think I’ve recieved enough ‘conditioning’ to believe this yet. Maybe another 20 years of mis-information and lies will help my outlook.

    sarcastic and snarky

  13. wisedup says:

Tundra, where do babies come from?

  14. Tundra says:

Men and women with hopefully as little government interference as possible. I’ve yet to find a federal government official I want in my bedroom.

(Post 10 was sarcasm by the way, sometimes it doesn’t come off so well in writting :)

  15. And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid says:

#14: what about Kissinger? I think we’ve all had that dream. /*pokes eyes out*/

Tundra, where do babies come from?

Well actually if you must know, first there is a block party, then my wet dog runs through the neighbors house. It gets a little fuzzy after that because of the jello shots and keg stands. I do seem to recall a midget and a couple of Harly riding chicks…

  18. Clif says:

Tundra try a “sarcasm off” or some facility of that at the end it helps us to keep up, some trolls here post contridictory messages and if you don’t acknowledge sarcasm somebody low on caffine might not catch it none too quick….

  19. Arne Langsetmo says:

Gaaaaahhhh!!!! Aaauuuugggghhhh!!!! These folks are morons!!! They’d educate themselves better than they are right now if they read the National Inquirer!

    Cheers,

Inbred and in power, that is the way of God.

  21. Zookeeper says:

Seriously concerned about the agency researcher’s fantasy life.
    Just sayin’

  22. Ducktape says:

Why do these Republicans think about nothing but sex???

  23. Marie says:

    #11 clif
I have noticed that too — they are absolutely obsessed with sex, sexual habits, sexual connections, sexual innuendo, sex, sex, sex.
I think it’s a puritanical mindset. They are living in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “Scarlet Letter” – they are the righteous Rev. Dimmesdale who has an affair with Hester, then brands her with the wearing of the scarlet “A”
They are twisted and perverted, unhealthy, as in neurotic, while claiming to be pious, moral and pure.

  24. wisedup says:

Tundra, thanks, thats exactly what mom told us boys too….!

  25. Bluestocking says:

Am I the only one who smells a kickback? Has anyone checked this official’s bank account to see whether they’ve received any payments from the Bush administration lately — or failing that, from one or more right-wing lobbying groups? It wouldn’t be the first time they’ve done something like this, after all — Armstrong Williams being one glaring example. Williams is a journalist and not a governmental employee — but even though the FDA is a governmental agency, they’re supposed to be scientists and as such should be putting facts ahead of politics. No matter how much Bush might like to play at being God and pretend that he determines what does and does not constitute fact, his desire to have it so does not make it so (thank the Powers That Be) — any more than our ancestor’s fervent belief that the earth was flat or that the sun rotated around the earth changed the facts one iota. This is nothing more than political kowtowing on the part of the FDA — and it’s disgraceful.

  26. SKdeA says:

Of course life always imitates fiction, so watch for a sex-based cult (isn’t that the best kind?) coming soon!

  27. Tundra says:

    24

Did she mention having to spank Ms Johnson because she spilled her margeritta in the Jacuzzi? or the smith twins and their silly little twister game? How about that wierd couple the Jones pair and their strange thing with frozen lamb wool (Still haven’t figured that one out myself, but working on it)

I’d do a sarcasm tag, but it is more humor base :)

  28. Tundra says:

    Or is it a biography???

  30. Sharon Cox says:

Good posts Marie #10 , #23 and every one else. Do you all remember the old saying about sex. Those that talk about it the most are getting the least….Also do you all know in a study several years ago the facts about pedafiles, rapests and abusers came out and the huge amount of the worst offenders including incest was caused by extreme christian white males…..There ya go…..Have a great day…….Blessings

  31. Grand Moff Texan says:

This is why creationists and other drooling superstitious freaks should be barred from all policy debates. Real people have to suffer while they froth and foam at the mouth about their pathetic fantasy world.
    .

  32. progressive and proud says:

Republicans yet again focused, nay obsessed, with sex. Everything leads to sex and everything is about sex. I just don’t know what kind of freaks always end up with the conclusion that somehow sex will be the end result of whatever is accomplished. It’s a freakin pill you morons. Can we somehow help them remove their minds from the gutters? How did they end up there? Bad parenting? Were they sexed up too early? Molestation? What gives?

  33. peter a says:

Adolescnece IS a sex-based cult. Anyone who doesn’t understand that doesn’t live with an adloescent.

  34. My Outlook says:

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Implementation ? leveraging MS Office & Outlook user experience

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, as well as Microsoft CRM 1.2 has so-called MS Outlook client snap-ins. Also it uses MSDE installed on local machine (usually meaning laptop of the traveling MS CRM user) to store replicated MS CRM data for using it offline.
