Today on Special Report with Brit Hume, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow expressed regret for his past criticisms of President Bush, detailed yesterday on Think Progress. Watch it:
Snow changes his mind quickly. He leveled some of his harshest criticism at Bush in the last six months.
Full transcript below:
HUME: Last question — one you’re going to get. You said, among a number of other things critical of this president, for example, on September 30 of last year, “No president has looked this impotent this long when it comes to fulfilling presidential prerogatives.” How do you plan to deal, when asked, with your past criticisms of this president?
SNOW: Well, the pretty simple answer. Which is, there are probably a lot of people in the press room who, from time to time, say, “Woo! Wish I hadn’t written or said that.” Here’s the key. When I will be giving advice to the President, it will be my advice. And if I have differing opinions with some people, I will express them. But on the other hand, the job as press secretary is not to come in as a surrogate president and say what I believe matters because frankly what matters is what the administration has decided to do and that I will express as forcefully as I possibly can.
Why regret?
April 26th, 2006 at 6:44 pmDuh.
April 26th, 2006 at 6:46 pmHe’s a flip-flopper! =:O
April 26th, 2006 at 6:47 pmKKKarl I I I I really didn’t (aghhh) mean it…pleeease stop with the whip(aghhhh) pleeease KKKarl pleeease stop(aghhh) it, I’ll recant on Fox…………
April 26th, 2006 at 6:49 pmTime to start sucking up to his new boss.
I’ll bet a million billion dollars that he intentionally said those things so as to appear “fair and ballanced” That way, as has been stated on every program, web site and newspaper “He criticized the president” When in reality, he is a partisan hack, who will start saying “We can’t comment on an ongoing investigation” starting in 3…2…1…
April 26th, 2006 at 6:50 pmA man of his convictions.
April 26th, 2006 at 6:51 pmEvery one of them is a flip-flopping opportunist.
Okazy, I watched the video and I don’t see anywhere in it where Snow expresses any regret at all. It sounded to me like he was just saying, “Oh, well. What are you gonna do?”
And does anyone really believe that Scottie was ever asked for his opinion? I wonder why the Snowman thinks his opinion will be sought?
April 26th, 2006 at 6:51 pmEveryone knows it really doesn’t matter what you say if your a neo-con. You live in your own reality.
April 26th, 2006 at 6:54 pmI had to post about this guy Snow today and Scotty coming down with his case of severe short-timers syndrome!
Single Digit Midget!
:-)
April 26th, 2006 at 6:54 pmHe was against Bush before he was for him!
In other words, he’s sold out his principles for the job.
April 26th, 2006 at 6:56 pm“I did not have sexual relations with that President!” ~ Tony Snow, 2008 impeachment hearing transcript.
April 26th, 2006 at 6:56 pmGreat! Yet another Republican flip-flopper.
#11 – LMFAO!!! :-)
Someone, anyone, Mr. Snow?, Mr. Gannon?, please give Preznit Numbnuts a blowjob so we can impeach him.
April 26th, 2006 at 7:11 pmNow THERE’S a man of principle!
Another FRAUD foisted upon the American people courtesy of FOX News and George W. Bush.

April 26th, 2006 at 7:11 pmWhat a p*ssy. Dude, be a man and grow some balls.
April 26th, 2006 at 7:29 pmOh my God, how great is that! So much for admiring the man’s “honesty” LOL.
April 26th, 2006 at 7:30 pmYes Tony Snow regrets what he said in the past, because now he is a paid stooge for the Bush Regime! He has sold his soul to the Devil Dubya, so he has to LIE big and spew proganda too!
April 26th, 2006 at 7:30 pmThink Progress was just referenced on CNN with Wolf Blitzer for the list of Bush criticsms made by Mr. Snow. Was called “the left-leaning Think Progress’.
April 26th, 2006 at 7:31 pmPropaganda > lol > typo!
April 26th, 2006 at 7:33 pmthe job as press secretary is not to come in as a surrogate president and say what I believe matters because frankly what matters is what the administration has decided to do and that I will express as forcefully as I possibly can.
Translation: I will be a mindless sock puppet, mouthpiece, parrot. I will repeat, do whatever my master asks of me: Fetch, play dead, whatever. My master is The Decider, and I am his follower. I am not worthy. My opinion is of no importance. I know my place.
April 26th, 2006 at 7:34 pmhey wayne #7 – it was one of those non-admitting admitions… he said:
“…a lot of people in the press room who say, ‘ooooh i wish i hadn’t written or said that…”
BUT – how ’bout THIS comment:
“here’s the key – when i will be giving advice to the president it will be my advice…”
HUH??? the press secretary gives advice to the president???
April 26th, 2006 at 7:35 pmhoo boy – this guy thinks muchly of hisself! (or am i mistaken?)
First snow job on American public – DONE!
April 26th, 2006 at 7:47 pm#19
Geez Gregor, I thought you were at least semi-intelligent. Do you actually think a press secretary has the latitude to express their own opinions? I don’t care who the president is, you’ll never see a press secretary say, “the presidents position on this situation is this… but this is what I think!” You’ve got to be kidding! Oh I know… it has to do with Bush, so you do the knee-jerk reaction. You guys are really quite the deep thinkers aren’t ya.
April 26th, 2006 at 7:51 pmThis guy is delusional.
As a partisan hack, Snow should already know that Bush doesn’t take advice from anybody, but Rove.
April 26th, 2006 at 7:52 pm#4 Clif
I think he’s more the type that would say “Please sir, may i have another.”
April 26th, 2006 at 7:53 pmAntagonist,
It is Snow that said:
Not Gregor.
Read the transcript, then come up with some stupid troll lines.
April 26th, 2006 at 7:54 pm#17
April 26th, 2006 at 7:54 pmleft leaning? You can’t get much further left than this—I’m mean this is the kook fringe!
Do you actually think a press secretary has the latitude to express their own opinions?
Comment by Antagonist — April 26, 2006 @ 7:51 pm
I thought you were at least intelligent enough to recognise a joke when you see one; my mistake.
Next time I will include a disclaimer…
April 26th, 2006 at 7:55 pmAt least it is official, the white house daily press confrernce is a Snow job…….
April 26th, 2006 at 7:55 pm#25
Take a reading comprehension class, then read Gregors translation—he’s ridiculing Snow for saying what matters is what the administration has decided to do.
April 26th, 2006 at 7:59 pm#26 Obviously you have personal knowledge of what the make-up of the kook fringe is from the inside. The allows you to speak with authority. But frankly, who really cares what a neoncon freep thinks?
April 26th, 2006 at 8:01 pm#27
Sorry Gregor—didn’t know it was a joke. To be honest with you, your comment looked like the usual anti-Bush rants posted here to me.
April 26th, 2006 at 8:04 pmHe only regrets exercising rights he now must deny others.
April 26th, 2006 at 8:04 pmunbelievable – left leaning….well, we’d certainly prefer if thye used the description “progressive”, but hey, I’m just glad they didn’t call us Commie Pinko Socialists, even if that would be somewhat true for some of us (Social Security, National Healthcare, living wages).
Snow has seen the light. That light is – Don’t bite the hand that feeds ya! If I can teach it to my dog, they can teach Tony.
April 26th, 2006 at 8:10 pmhe’s ridiculing Snow for saying what matters is what the administration has decided to do.
Comment by Antagonist — April 26, 2006 @ 7:59 pm
Yes, I am ridiculing Snow… because it is ridiculous that he should see it fit to state the blatantly obvious. It is the more ridiculous that, right before, he says he will give advice to Pres Bush. Puh-leeze. How arrogant is this guy?
April 26th, 2006 at 8:10 pmSnow’s Free Republic postings have been archived:

There is a massive effort underway to erase his posts from Free Republic.com

#35 another attempt by the repug fringe to rewrite history? And hide their dirty laundry again…..
April 26th, 2006 at 8:15 pmNo shit?
April 26th, 2006 at 8:16 pmIs that the same as the “official” GOP photo outfit in DC purging photo’s of Jack (the felon) Abrarmoff and the chimp in chief at the party for Ralph(I’m a christian even if I bilk them for money) Reed’s opening of Reed’s Lobby Firm
April 26th, 2006 at 8:19 pmWhat a lying dog. Then again they all are. LONG LIVE BLOGS.
April 26th, 2006 at 8:40 pmOf course you do Tony Tony Tone, I would too if I were you.
April 26th, 2006 at 8:41 pmThe first question for Tony Snow should be: Has the U.S. committed war crimes in Iraq? Maybe a reporter could list the crimes for him. Maybe ask him to comment on 18 USC 2441 – 1996 War Crimes Act. Let’s see where he goes from there.
April 26th, 2006 at 8:59 pmThe White House press reporters for the most part are not very bright, so except for Helen Thomas they might just throw soft ball questions at Tony Snow, and make a lot of small talk nonsense! Snow will smile a lot and tease the reporters he is friends with and act bored when Helen asks a tough question! Smoke and mirrors with a handsome face is the only change!
April 26th, 2006 at 9:13 pmThey’v put his postings into the Bush Presidential library with all of W’s sealed records! Information control is always absolute in a dictatorship.
April 26th, 2006 at 9:39 pmTony’s a flip-flopper!! Let’s hope he won’t criticize Dems for that. Oh, I guess he will, becausew he’s a liar too. Except what he said about GWB. Where is the outrage over this? If this had been a Dem, and they picked a news anchor, you know the right would go insane.
http://www.lcoliberal.blogspot.com
April 26th, 2006 at 9:42 pmSnowed out: Now on LCL
Yes post 45 could you imagine if Clinton had tried to appoint Keith Obberman to be his press secretary? GOP would have gone ballistic, but we Dems are just supposed to say nothing about a FOX News whore being hired by Dubya?
April 26th, 2006 at 9:46 pmPut some bolts in Tony’s neck — he’s absolutely Frankensteinian in that picture from Fox. And as Atrios pointed out, he has an enormous head. He’s like Mike Myers’ young brother in “So I Married an Ax Murderer.” Head! Move!
April 26th, 2006 at 10:06 pmYeah, I’m sure he does, especially since there’s a $161,000 a year job at stake.
April 26th, 2006 at 10:24 pmRICE-SNOW 2008
April 26th, 2006 at 10:35 pmRegret his adgenda to act as if he was critical of Bush just to deture the Harsh reality of real Issues People and Callers put at him, ??? why apologise for that Snow are you a lier or do you have a back bone, words work well but as you might know , The words were ment to protect your show and Gain a bias reputation with you listeners , Be honest about it, Had Bushs rating ever toped 50% you would have never Bashed his record and the Fact you propagandized it as it was is too obvious for you to ever be Taken with anything ohter than Applejuice and Koolaid? You make Rush look Good, and That pathetic….
April 26th, 2006 at 10:45 pmClinton got a blow job and Bubble Boy gets a Snow Job.
Democrats have more fun.

April 26th, 2006 at 11:11 pmI KNEW her reminded me of someone I’d seen before!
BTW Snow has a big head in more ways than one.
He reminded me (darn small font)
April 26th, 2006 at 11:12 pmLeft Leaning??? BWwwwhahahahaha CNN wake up!!
Left? Right? Center?
WTF?
PNAC is a small off-shoot, occupying the 5th floor, of the American Enterprise Institute which has been around since 1943. The AEI has 12 very busy floors where its operative have had plenty of time to send their operatives over to infiltrate the Democratic Party, or leave them in to be more accurate since the PNACers & AEIers are ORIGINALLY DEMOCRATS. To this day Richard Perle, Fieth and Wolfowitz are still Democrats. The day the Republican party, which they hijacked also, no longer suits their needs, they’ll follow other PNAC neo-cons like Marshall Wittman back to the Democratic Party where the neoliberal Democratic Leadership Council is laying out the welcome mat for them.
The AEI, the PNAC & the DLC were founded by Scoop Jackson democrats who follow the philosophy of Leo Strauss. To this day the DLC is stacked with neo-conservative ideologues, who maintain deep personal ties to the war-mongers in the Bush Administration.
The DLC is following the footsteps of its neo-conservative, war-mongering predecessor organizations of the 1970s: the Coalition for a Democratic Majority (CDM)((also see http://www.disinfopedia.org/wiki.phtml?title=Coalition_for_a_D... )), founded in 1972 by the likes of Richard Perle, Midge Decter, Norman Podhoretz, Irving Kristol, and Jeane Kirkpatrick, among others; the Committee on the Present Danger (CPD) ((also see http://www.rightweb.irc-online.org/groupwatch/cpd.php )), founded in 1976 by Richard Perle, Midge Decter, Norman Podhoretz, Irving Kristol, and Jeane Kirkpatrick, et al; and the Committee for the Free World (CFW) (( also see http://www.disinfopedia.org/wiki.phtml?title=Committee_for_the... )), founded in 1981 by exactly the same crew. Rounding out the picture, CFW’s chairman was none other than Donald Rumsfeld.
The “missing link” between the “Democratic” DLC and the now “Republican” CDM/CPD/CFW neo-cons, is the Social Democrats-USA, (SDUSA), whose chairman, Penn Kemble, was the Executive Director of the Coalition for a Democratic Majority in 1972, until he brought in Richard Perle’s underling Stephen Bryen to take his place. Bryen, who created the hawkish Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA) in the early 1980s, when he served as Perle’s aide at the Department of Defense, is another leading member of the neo-conservative gang that wants to go to war against the entire Arab world in the name of anti-terrorism. Providing daily coordination between Perle and Bryen would be Joshua Muravchik, a fixture at nearly every American Enterprise Institute event–but also a leader of SDUSA since its creation.
The DLC and SDUSA both maintain extremely close links to Tony Blair’s British “New Labour” party faction, and in parallel, are out to recreate a new version of the Coalition for a Democratic Majority in time for the 2004 elections. The battle cry for this effort is to follow the “strong defense” lead of the original CDM’s heroes: the late Dem Senators Henry “Scoop” Jackson, and Daniel Patrick Moynihan.
April 26th, 2006 at 11:21 pm$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
“Conservative Nutwork Noose” {CNN} wouldn’t know left from right from middle from truth from lies, because either they are cohorts in this “plan” or the dumbest journalists ever.
Which is it?

Cheers,
April 27th, 2006 at 12:07 amHaha! A rather unusually ebullient post from Arne. Have you been drinking? Have another beer on me. And I thought Zack from here might be the same Zack posting over at Glenn’s, Hi Zack.
April 27th, 2006 at 12:54 am[...] So, yes, I would love to have a camera sitting in the office when this guy’s name came on the list of possibilities. It seems as if he was chosen to prove he’s “honest” and “fair” with his assessments of the president and politics. Of course, this is also an admittance that you can tell someone’s honest by the way they call Bush an embarrassment. Don’t worry, Snow apologized. I did find this bit interesting, though: But on the other hand, the job as press secretary is not to come in as a surrogate president and say what I believe matters because frankly what matters is what the administration has decided to do and that I will express as forcefully as I possibly can. [...]
April 27th, 2006 at 1:25 amGREAT!!! Now the FAUX reporters are interviewing each other and they’re lying on top of the lies that have been lied by the Bush Administration. It’s easy to see the truth now, just assume the opposite of what any right wing talking head is spewing and voila, it gleams forth.
April 27th, 2006 at 1:49 amIt shows that Snow, like most members of the Washington insider’s club, has little integrity. They’ll sell their soul (along with their convictions) to the highest bidder–or else Bush and Cheney performed a backroom lobotomy on poor Tony!
This certainly isn’t limited to one side of the spectrum, either, as Mike McCurry, former Clinton press secretary, is working with the telecomm companies to turn the internet into just another “pay-to-play” consumer item.
April 27th, 2006 at 6:21 am
What I want to know is, has he ever picked up his teeth with broken fingers?
April 27th, 2006 at 6:41 amThis creepy guy is just a Murdoch media hack.
April 27th, 2006 at 6:58 amBob Herbert has some pretty harsh things to say about Dear Leader today. Only he won’t apologize for them.
I’ll hold up the velvet rope for you.
April 27th, 2006 at 7:28 amSnow is a complete castrated tool. Bashfully slapping his own wrist on the Daddy Hume show WAS EMBARRASSING! The way Bush introduced him today with, ‘I make the decisions and Tony’s job is to tell you what those decisions are’….it was like Bush was pissing on Tony’s new suit to mark his territory. I’m sure Bush had to also secretly tell Tony what color knee pads he likes his Press Secretaries to wear.
When I read what Tony has written and has said VERY RECENTLY about Bush, I thought, ‘wow, a Fox tool that can actually give Bush the scathing, harsh assessment he deserves on almost every issue. Even bitch-slapping the Republican, I must admit, turned me on. But now that he’s had his castration ceremony, I have lost any (unlikely) respect I had for him.
Let’s keep in mind….THE DIXIE CHICKS RECEIVED/RECEIVES DEATH THREATS, THEY WERE BOYCOTTED, BANNED AND LABELED ‘TRAITORS’, ‘SADDAM LOYALISTS’, ‘UN-AMERICAN’, ‘TREASONISTS…….for saying that they were EMBARRASSED by Bush.
Tony Snow says he’s EMBARRASSED by Bush in a much more vicious, direct tone and he’s awarded the highest profile Press Job in the country! Can you imagine what would have happened to the Dixie Chicks if THEY had called George Bush, “IMPOTENT”? Oh my God, they’d be in a secret U.S.-run Gulag in eastern Europe having their toenails ripped off, hung upside down, raped with broomsticks and beaten to a bloody pulp! Sweet kharma that their new CD won’t be released for 4 more weeks and their pre-sales already put them at the top of all charts..including the Top 5 on Amazon.com. Great symbolism in their new video, ‘Not Ready to make Nice’. I give them immense respect for not writing a suck up to Toby Keith, Country Radio, AM Hate Radio, Nashville, Fox News, the Bush administration and the vile Republican psychos that threatened to have them killed. Clearly, sometimes the good guys DO INDEED WIN! It’s extra sweet that their CD is being released at a time where the entire political red-blue map is ENTIRELY BLUE with the exception of Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska and Utah. Even in those obvious red states, less than one out of two are still clinging to the boy King. Plus, those states have the lowest populations in the United States.
We see the Bush at a 32% approval rate, the Republican led Congress at 21%. We know a huge % of Americans consider the “Decider” a Dishonest, Incompetent, Corrupt lying idiot (or as Tony Snow would say, “a tortured soul suffering from Tourrette’s)! Yet, Fox News et al STILL insists the only people that the only people who have round-filed George Bush are the Democrats. Desperate and quite sad.
I’m willing to bet that by Tony’s 3rd Day on the job, Sean Hannity will be the first to exploit Tony’s Colon Cancer and say that ‘those vicious, mean people in the White House Press Corp better be nice and not ask hard questions or they’ll make Tony’s Cancer spread.
April 27th, 2006 at 7:52 amYeah, he is sorry he was ever a reporter and tried to be fair and balanced, even when it was really about him being popular. When bush was popular, it was ok to maintain the foxusquo: support bush at all costs.

(A bit off-topic, but still related to Bush Admin. shenanigans)
Now appearing on crooksandliars.com…
The Defense Department began working yesterday with a private marketing firm to create a database of high school students ages 16 to 18 and all college students to help the military identify potential recruits in a time of dwindling enlistment in some branches. The program is provoking a furor among privacy advocates. The new database will include personal information including birth dates, Social Security numbers, e-mail addresses, grade-point averages, ethnicity and what subjects the students are studying…
The New York Civil Liberties Union sued on behalf of six high schoolers, saying the department is ignoring privacy rules set by Congress regarding the collection and distribution of students’ personal information.

April 27th, 2006 at 9:27 amTony Snow is a paid Bush stooge now and nothing more! He will spew whatever lies and propaganda Dubya tells him to peddle! Only completely soul-less people work for the Bush Regime, so welcome to the voyage of the damned dear Tony!
April 27th, 2006 at 9:32 amBush likes to declare himself a “decider.” He likes to make “decisions.” (He reminds me of the old Buster Brown shoe commercials “I’m Buster Brown, I live in a shoe, this is my dog, Tide, he lives in there too!” Yay! Woof! ) What a jerk.
April 27th, 2006 at 9:47 amObviously he loves the power trip, unfortunately he is clueless. He thinks he’s witty and funny, but I cringe when the obsequious press titters at his inane jokes.
I don’t like Tony Snow, but Snow is not stupid. It will be interesting to see him explain and defend the moron.
Why is this any surprise? Look where he gave the interview. He needs to make sure to ease his zombie followers that all of the past criticism was a ploy. Of course, the knuckle-dragging GOP zombies will buy it and all will be well for them. For the rest of the country however……
April 27th, 2006 at 10:14 amI’m thinking that it does not matter what he said before he took the job, it’s what he says NOW, or does not say, that will show the ‘real’ Tony Snow. His expression of regret gives me an indication, though.
April 27th, 2006 at 10:26 amdidn’t seem to hurt his career options any…
April 27th, 2006 at 11:07 amOkay, I’m taking bets.
How many meetings with the press corp. before he has to say “I’m not going to comment on an ongoing investigation.”?
