since Bill Pullman played the jet fighter pilot in the movie Independence Day.” Media Matters looks back at the media’s fawning coverage of Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” speech.
“The coolest presidential image since Bill Pullman played the jet fighter pilot in the movie Independence Day.†I love that quote, especially when Bush everyday plays a competent leader… too bad he doesn’t even play that well.
COULTER: …it doesn’t matter if Democrats try to ridicule it. It’s stunning, and it speaks for itself.
I agree that Bush looked pretty untouchable that day. But nowadays the moment is ridiculed so much that the administration itself tried to pawn off some of the responsibility (they blamed the Navy for the banner. Why does Bush hate the troops?) The lens of history makes everyone see a little bit better. Those who wanted that to be the ride-off-into-the-sunset moment of the Iraq war have been rudely awakened.
I wonder why the press corps never checked into the issue of Bush’s being grounded by his commander and if he had his pilot’s wings revolked?
Bush, even though he was a former pilot, he his formal training dated to the Vietnam War and at any rate he was unqualified to fly in that particular aircraft. If he received any real “stick time” he was breaking Naval law—-president or not.
I guess eveyone was just too awestruck, seeing a real, make-believe cowboy morph into a make-believe Top Gun.
Chris Matthews is the sorriest excuse for a journalist. Did he spank it while watching his faux fighter pilot strut around? Yeah, the admin. isn’t too hep on talking about that day anymore.
These guys watch too many movies – they confuse a guy that looks good in uniform with a real soldier. Redundant, I know but I can’t get over the fact that the jesus freaks chose Bush over Kerry simply because we were at a so-called “war†and the draft dodger Bush looked good in a uniform while Kerry, a two time Vietnam vet, looked weak on the surfboard. A tribute to the power of the media and the ease by which idiots can be manipulated into believing anything. No wonder all these idiots vote Republican and thus against their own interests. Simply pathetic.
You have to give it to these guys… The can stage a photo op like no other.

May 1st, 2006 at 12:29 pmafter reading Coulter and Mathews, I wonder if they had a 3-way with GWB after the interview.
May 1st, 2006 at 12:43 pm#3. In Texas they say “fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.”

May 1st, 2006 at 2:14 pmBill Pullman’s little speech was so bad in that movie.
It was actually listed somewhere as the worst motivational speech ever.
Hmmm what kind of comparison are you trying to make here??????? :)
