May 1st, 2006 at 9:17 amRepublicans are caught in a Catch 22 situation. Their leaker-in-chief rattled sabers with Iran so much that already the already bad gas price situation became worse. If he backs off from the threats to Iran, he loses face with what is left of his neocon supporters and loses the opportunity to use Iran as a wedge issue in the midterm elections.

We’ve been all through this, too, silly. The OP says “U.S. citizens and legal residents,” not “spies and terrorists.” Remember, “U.S. citizens and legal residents” = you. The judicial branch is a check on the executive which keeps them from throwing you in jail for no reason.
And if you think you’re safe because your guy is in charge, how much do you trust all future presidents?
May 1st, 2006 at 9:26 amAs for the gas rebate, paltry is right. At yesterday’s pump prices $100 fills up my tank three times. Do you get a reach-around with that?
May 1st, 2006 at 9:30 amIn 2005 the production of ethanol was 3.9 billion gallons. At twenty million barrels consumption per day in the US, 0.45 x 20 000 000 = 9 000 000 barrels per day used for gasoline. 42 gallons in a barrel, so that equals 378 million gallons of gasoline used per day. 365 times 378 equals 137,970,000,000 gallons of gasoline consumed in the United States each year. 3.9 billion gallons of ethanol would have a neglible effect on the market.
Three times 137,970,000,000 is some 430 billions of dollars.
If I were to venture an idiot’s guess, I’d say the oil companies are making some money. All the while, they’re stealing the national treasure too. The hallmark of avarice and greed.
Dick Cheney is exempt from all rules, even hunting rules. I guess it is true when they say that all is fair in love and war. Kind of a catch 22 there too for old Dick, ain’t it?

May 1st, 2006 at 10:39 amI-R-I shows again his lack of knowledge. He continually cites arguments without any supporting evidence. If the President has been found within his Constitutional power to do these warrantly wiretaps, then where is that decision? We know it’s not from the President because Separation of Powers wouldn’t allow that (again: see the U.S. Constitution.) So, where is it?
May 1st, 2006 at 10:47 amI-R-I,
The part of “traitors, spies and terrorists” that I “don’t get” is when the convictions happened. Seemingly you and the administration think such serious charges should be decided without a trial – maybe we should just take Ann Coulter’s word for it? Is the idea of “innocent until proven guilty in a court of law”, for you, just a “quaint pre-9-11 idea”? It seems to me to be the bedrock of our freedoms as Americans.
I also don’t remember any court ruling on the legality of Bush’s warrentless wiretapping program. So far, all we have are dubious admininstration claims about limitless executive power during “wartime”. The issue seems far from settled to me.
Furthermore, the mechanism for “prosecuting him” is called impeachment, and the movement is growing. Perhaps next year the investigations can begin in earnest.

May 1st, 2006 at 11:09 amMAY DAY PROTESTS IN U.S.
Monday 1st of May 2006
By Jay Randal
Today is May Day the international day of workers protesting against the vile corporate elite worldwide!
In America today: workers who crossed our border with Mexico to get jobs are protesting for rights as American citizens demand jobs for themselves too!
It is obvious that the elite want the illegal workers to fight with American workers so that they do not join together to fight against the tyranny of corporations!
The elite of Mexico desire their poor population to seek low-paid jobs in the United States instead of providing decent employment for them in Mexico!
The border remains wide open so the desperate can cross into the U.S. to be exploited by corporations who thrive on cheap labor using them like slaves!
American citizens must demand rights for all workers and march on Washington to end the corruption of the Bush Regime and a Congress that does nothing!

I’m against illegal immigration.
May 1st, 2006 at 2:05 pmMinutemen build fence along southern border
I spent this past weekend along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Friday night, I went out with U.S. Border Patrol agents searching for illegal immigrants. Then, Saturday morning, I met up with a large group of Minutemen volunteers who planned to build a fence along a remote patch of border.
If you have been following the border debate, you no doubt know about the Minutemen. They are volunteers who patrol the border, hoping to deter and detect illegal immigrants. They don’t try to apprehend border crossers themselves; they watch them cross and call the Border Patrol. Their critics call them vigilantes. They respond by saying they are vigilant.
I didn’t really know what to expect when I went to meet the Minutemen. At 8 a.m. Saturday, about a hundred volunteers gathered in a trailer park near the border. They set out in a convoy of trucks and SUVs to a remote section of the border where they began to build a barbed-wire fence.
There is a fence along parts of the border, but it stops from time to time. So the Minutemen began drilling holes for posts and stringing barbed wire. They didn’t know if they would be stopped by the Border Patrol, but the atmosphere was festive.
Those unable to actually work on the fence cooked hot dogs and served sodas in the desert heat. For many, it was the first time they’d volunteered for the Minutemen, and they seemed happy to be doing something.
I asked one woman why she was there, and she said this is one issue where she actually feels she can make a difference. She said she couldn’t do anything about the deficit or gas prices, but she could stand on the border and “be the eyes and ears” helping the border patrol.

May 1st, 2006 at 2:52 pmI work as a web developer and I strongly suggest that everyone download and use FireFox. The problem is that IE can resize pages that were created using pixels to determine font size. For non geeks, pixels are the way you set size in Word or Word Perfect. When it comes to font size on the web, IE doesn’t support being able to resize the text even though it will render whatever pixel size you you state in the code. FireFox plays nicely and will resize pages using pixels to determine the size.
Most developers are using pixel to determine the font size. Basic HTML uses a font tag and it is very limited. You have tiny, regular, huge, even more huge, and ridiculously huge. With pixels you can the full range that you have in your typical word processor.
Interesting to note that FireFox is open source which is done with volunteer progamming for the benefit of all. Basically it is anti-Replubican. The Repugnants feel fine about using it though as it is simly a better product and even though they hate the idea of open-source software (It reeks of Communism!!) they don’t mind reaping the benefits of it – your typical Repugnant hypocricy.
