By Amanda Terkel on May 3rd, 2006 at 10:34 am

Michael Scanlon,

Jack Abramoff’s former lobbying partner who pleaded guilty to conspiracy, yesterday defended his graduate thesis at Johns Hopkins University on…the House ethics process. Scanlon argued that the “system now is not broken, but functioning in the same manner it has since its creation.” Scanlon faces up to five years in prison and $19.7 million in restitution. He is currently free on $5 million bond.

    $5M bond…my, whoever thought a
Masters Feces could be so costly!
    Ethics aren’t complicated,
but one must have a heart to buy
    into the concept.
    Who’s next?…

The thing people don’t know is Scanlon was defending his thesis in front of Ed, Edd ‘n Eddy.

    It’s not broken….

Guess his idea of Washington DC is you get what you pay for. Too bad for us that the republican party currently feels the same way.

Jesse Unruh was a politician here in CA that was quoted as saying: “If you can’t eat their food, drink their liquor, f*** their whores – and then vote against them, you have no business being here.” Why is that so hard to find now days?

  8. Jules says:

Not broken huh? Come back in 5 years and we will see what is and is not broken.

  9. Patrick J. Fitzgerald says:

Just say “No, thank you!” to graft.

It isn’t broke… it got him didn’t it… no wait that was some other system… well maybe it has just sucked since its creation.

  12. big papa says:

    I wonder how many children he’ll molest…

    …while he’s out on bond?

What’s his JHU graduate degree — Master of BS? Or is it Doctor of Hypocrisy?

  15. Solitaire says:

    That’s just too funny!
Let’s have a thesis from Cunningham too! He can tell us how honest it is to be open about your sculduggery. And Abramoff can expound on the democratic delights of bribery of public officials. Been going on since officialdom was invented, I suppose. And murder has been going on since before the club, no doubt. So obviously, murder, bribery, sculduggery, … all ok. There’s some serious “ethics” for ya! If somebody else did it too, at any time in history, it clears your name.
This MIGHT be why these fools are in trouble, ya think?

  16. Solitaire says:

I can’t help wondering if the learned Professors hearing his warped defence of warped ethics will grant him that Doctorate? A Doctorate in Ethics!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

  17. lpt says:

That jackass smiling in those pictures like a cheshire cat is really a weasel.

  18. Mike says:

We all believe what the papers say… But have any of you ever thought that maybe the government makes the greatest yet scariest offers to fish out a guilty plea? Perhaps Scanlon could have pleaded not guilty, and so in retaliation, the government finds 5-10 counts of BS, and Scanlon spends the next 10 years and all of his money on legal fees. What would you do if you were brought under the wing of Jack and faced that situation? You say Scanlon has ethics issues. I agree that the politicians have been milking lobbyists and special interest groups since our democracies creation. Why now? Why did I not read blogs like this about men like Scanlon during the Clinton administration? I assure you similar things were going on then.

    degree master

Well spoken. I have to research more on this as it is really vital info.
