We have known about permanent bases for years. There are 12-14 of them either constructed or being constructed and the Taj of world wide Embassies must be about finished by now. Bush chose, and will choose, to ignore Congress and their pitiful amendments and resolutions. Without actual indictments and immediate impeachment proceedings, you might as well kiss America "goodbye". Nearly every day the Republican administration finds new things to prevent our Democracy from functioning. Courts, civil rights, habeas corpus, wire tapping, spying, Republican overseers, ecology, economy, have all been tampered with or destroyed. Ignoring laws and the Constitution has, so far, caused no problems for the neo-coms. They plan to stay in Iraq. They plan to get richer off the oil. They plan to take Iran's oil and any other country's oil. The war fits right into these plans. Out of chaos comes order.
The order being "complete domination of the oil fields".

[...] Two years ago, word leaked that the U.S. was building a series of "enduring bases" throughout Iraq, "designed to last for years." Critics have demanded a pledge from the White House for no permanent bases. (Such a move would negate the whole neoconservative basis for the war — control the oil spiget through a projection of military power in the region as a hedge against China.) The Senate passed legislation to that effect and the provision was removed in conference. [...]

I think we should pull our military out of Korea and Japan and have them finish cleaning out the vermin in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Comment by mighty aphrodite

Bases in South Korea: good.
Bases in Iraq: NOOOO STOP EVIL BUSH NO!

Huh? Of all those three locations, having bases in Iraq makes the most strategic sense. Oh well. Apparently letting terrorists run the Middle East is a more viable option.

Comment by Seixon —

Very interesting that these two reichwing trolls see absolutely no threat from North Korea, which already has nuclear weapons. Or maybe they just don't care about the fate of South Korea and Japan, since they aren't sources of oil and, in fact, may be competition for the US in acquiring it from the Middle East, etc. What hypocrisy!

#38 - MA, might I suggest a refresher course in reading comprehension? I don’t see where Faiz said it ‘is’ a law, he asks the questions “Will this be yet another law that….” not “Is this yet another law” - see the difference?

Comment by Quadrajet

I must second Quadrajet's comment. Faiz's comment is phrased in the future tense--something Mighty Hypocrite either doesn't comprehend or is deliberately twisting and nitpicking where there aren't even any nits to pick, such as when he/she on another thread criticized a comparison I never even made between Japanese and Iranian culture.

I must second Quadrajet’s comment. Faiz’s comment is phrased in the future tense–something Mighty Hypocrite either doesn’t comprehend or is deliberately twisting and nitpicking where there aren’t even any nits to pick, such as when he/she on another thread criticized a comparison I never even made between Japanese and Iranian culture.

well, the bush isn't building "permanent" bases in Iraq, anyway. He's building "enduring" bases. That'll fix those pesky congress people.

unbelievable > what is the deal with E-coli #125 nut on here? Is this another screenname for Mighty Moron now masquerading as a foul mouth male, instead of a female? Very strange, but best to ignore a troll who uses vulgar profanity!

Who knows this kind of lunactic nonsense? Only those crazy enough to actually do it themselves. And it's not even funny. You never are. Just very sad. Give it up.

Wow. Nice Enlightened discourse toward the end there. I think it can't be pinned to one factor. Too many hands in the pot. But I do think the war is an expression of numerous corrupt financial interests operating within our government. Think Teapot Dome.
