“Air Force Gen. Michael Hayden will be named as the next chief of the CIA, President Bush’s national security adviser said Monday, and the White House began battling back against criticism that a military officer would lead the civilian spy agency.” Hayden’s nomination is already receiving criticism from conservatives.
It’s the Civilian Spy Agency! They’ll probably call it the Gestapo.
May 8th, 2006 at 7:56 amIs hayden a harriet meyers? a fake nominee to lessen the shock of the real nominee to be named next week?
May 8th, 2006 at 8:00 amI’m surprised Bushco would do something that would let the Senate question an NSA guy.
Maybe they’ll stretch the notion of “recess appointment” to include the time between when Congress adjourns Monday and re-convenes on Tuesday?
May 8th, 2006 at 8:21 amGood possibility there, #2, although the stikingly similar physical appearance of Mr. Hayden, Mr. Cheney and Mr. Rove suggest to me that perhaps someone is being cloned…………
May 8th, 2006 at 8:29 am#4 – don’t forget Dr. Evil from Austin Powers and Jamie Hyneman from Mythbusters..
May 8th, 2006 at 8:35 amFollowing the thought, maybe Lil’ georgie is gonna nominate hisself to be head of the CIA.
May 8th, 2006 at 8:37 amFollows the pattern of alcoholic losers who begin to re-invent their lives as their credibility and self esteem begins to go down the toilet. They often become compulsive liars, even when the truth is far less harmful.
Evidence in point is Dubious’ fish story…..
he has not a single sucess in his pResidency, only horribly disastrous failures in fiscal and foreign policies, such that the best he can do now is to continue to tell even more incredulous and meaningless lies.
#5 Yeah, I guess Scotty Mack had to go cause he had a shred bit of decency that somehow got into the vat…….
May 8th, 2006 at 8:40 amThe White House has offically named Gen Hayden to head the CIA.
May 8th, 2006 at 8:47 amExpect the Democrats to come out in force against him for being in the military and supporting terrorist surveillance.
This is a fight that they will not win.
May 8th, 2006 at 9:06 amLet’s see now…
May 8th, 2006 at 9:11 amHayden was the architect for the NSA’s warrantless spying activity.
Hayden is an active member of the US Army.
Hayden will now control the Nation’s ‘intelligence gathering’.
Hayden will bend over whenever Cheney or Rove request it.
Gosh, things are looking up for personal freedom in the USA!
Big mistake…
May 8th, 2006 at 9:14 amR2K
Don’t be fooled by conservatives’ (like Hoekstra) feigning their concern about the general (who doesn’t understand the Constitution)…
…they’re Bushite worshippers and party loyalists FIRST!
…this is just another smoke screen…
…that al Cracker basta*d will sail through confirmation along party lines…
…Republiscum HATE America…
…they HATE the Constitution…
…and they HATE freedom!
May 8th, 2006 at 9:20 amBig Papa is right — just because some Republicans are questioning the choice of Hayden in public doesn’t have any bearing on how they will vote when the time comes. They are republican and they have their marching orders — party above everything. I get chilled just thinking of it — military influence growing more dominant – reminiscent of the SS.
May 8th, 2006 at 9:33 amIt could be worse: the Commander-in-Chief could pardon, then nominate Rove!
May 8th, 2006 at 9:33 amRumsfeld has quietly and deliberately gathered up all the intelligence agencies and putting them under his umbrella.
Bush has been quietly and deliberately dismantling the entire spy appartus. He does not want anymore memos like August 2001.
America is going to hell in a handbasket. All Bush can say now is “look at the one that got away”. I refer of course to his fishy fish story of late.
May 8th, 2006 at 9:35 amI suppose, however, to appease the critics, the CIA could be renamed “The Ministry of Love.”
May 8th, 2006 at 9:38 amIn his promo speech for General Hayden, Bush for the first time (that I’ve heard him) used the words, “… in this dangerous new Century!” Impressive acknowledgment of PNAC’s influence, or puppet-maesters! Good boy! So, “in your face!” What leadership! What _____! (fill in the blank.)
May 8th, 2006 at 11:38 amHayden is a stooge of the Bush Regime and believes in wiretapping evey phone in America! He must be prevented from becoming the new CIA Director at all costs > contact your Senators and chew their asses off to NOT vote for him!!!
May 8th, 2006 at 11:39 am[...] Gen. Michael Hayden is the replacement, an Air Force General. He’s already receiving criticism saying that a military officer shouldn’t lead a civilian spy agency. House Intel Chairman Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) is leading the criticism charge. Specifically, Hoekstra was concerned that Hayden, as a member of the military, would be seen as “under the sway” of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. [...]
May 8th, 2006 at 1:29 pmAs predicted, President Bush nominated Air Force General Michael V. Hayden to replace Porter Goss as head of the CIA. And while the Hayden nomination brings with it a growing laundry list of problems, that’s just fine with President Bush. After all, a fight is exactly what the Bush White House wants right now.
