‘The next six months in Iraq are critical.’

Tom Friedman has been saying that for the last three and a half years. FAIR has it all documented. (Via Atrios)

Friedman is brilliant! Let’s go all run out and buy his book!

  2. unbelievable says:

    I’d rather read toilet paper… :)

  3. koda says:

God, I love resources like this. I don’t pay enough attention to these pundits to document their blather, but every once in a while, it starts to feel like I’ve heard this before. Maybe this is why.

  4. br says:

    Friedman is “played out.”

  5. Jack says:

Yeh your right. He is like a broken record. I’ve found Friedman annoying ever since he appeared on Oprah when the war drums were just beginning. He kept saying, “it’s the right thing to do but we got there the wrong way”, and “if we break it we own it”.

  6. foxbot says:

To be fair, the past thre and a half years have all been critical. Critical condition, that is.

  7. Cyra Brown says:

But this time he means it!!! Really!

  8. Bush Bites says:

    THAT IS DEVASTATING.

I HOPE IT GETS WIDE CIRCULATION IN THE BLOGOSPHERE.

  9. Ron says:

Today is critical for Iraq. Today is critical for the US.

George Bush should resign today. He needs a break. Maybe another 30 day vacation would help. Another one after that, and then another after that.

  10. RealityCheck says:

Tom does not have an even hand in this. He’s a strong supporter of U.S. Middle Eastern policies that bolster Israeli interests, even to the detriment of the U.S, such as the invasion of Iraq and attacking Iran. He seems to be one of those people who think Israeli and U.S. interests are one and the same.

  11. Will OBGYN for Food says:

He’s a bumbling, donut-eating, fat-ass, lying, Israel-loving piece of garbage. I’ll bet he smokes, too.

  12. big papa says:

At least Friedman probably owns a vacation home in Israel

    …he gets paid to shill

unlike other TREASONOUS, mass murdering, inbred Bushite worshipping scum

  13. Grand Moff Texan says:

The next six months will be critical in determining if a majority of people in this county want to remain mindless rent-a-holes or if they want to stand up and be Americans again.

Hey, bushtard! Ever wonder why your ass is sore?
    .

  14. GSD says:

Why don’t you folks just give it another 6 months. They are crucial.

    -Tom Friedman

  15. Mike says:

The World is Flat and Time is Frozen!

  16. foxbot says:

There’s plenty of people in the country who will vote Republican because they like NASCAR more than hippies. Republicans know this. Expect more faux populism from the right wing media elite ;)

  17. Marie says:

I used to read and listen to Friedman, even when I didn’t agree, because he is an intelligent, erudite individual; but after the Iraq war became an undeniable debacle, he wrote a book on another topic, changing the subject he had been on for years. Now he seems to be back in the old groove, and he doesn’t have credibility any more. I am disappointed because he fooled me; I now believe that all along, he was simply a smart man who saw an avenue to personal wealth and recognition. At one time, his op-eds made me think that there was something I wasn’t seeing, so I would give him the benefit of MY doubt. No more — my average-intelligent gut was right all along. Lately, I skim read his op-eds; I watch his TV interviews with skepticism. He and his words are now repetitious and trite.

  18. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

I wrote Tom just before the Bush Cabal invaded Iraq. He angered me with his justification for occupation. I shared with him a few facts that I felt he’d overlooked.

Surprise! I got a reply from him. All he could say is something along the lines of just wait and see, besides, I know I’m right and you’re wrong.

I have no respect for the guy.

  19. Steve says:

Perhaps he’s caught in a time continuim, TP! Did you ever think of that, huh?

    Why do you hate America?

  20. Zookeeper says:

#20 – I hate it when that happens.

Six months are up Friedman! What now, eh? We could go on like this forever.

  21. MediaBloodhound says:

While our troops – and countless Iraqi civilians – continue to lose life and limb at a fairly predictable rate, Tom Friedman keeps reassessing his assessments until, hopefully, for him, they come true. Like a corporation that has too much at stake in profits and reputation to recall a defective product that’s sure to take more lives, Friedman’s name is too closely staked to his pre- and post-invasion assertions and analysis for him to turn back now. He has managed, however, to tone down his rosy forecast of Iraq triggering a democratic domino effect in the Middle East, a theory, incidentally, also central to neo-con doctrine. (Though, of course, Friedman is presented as a centrist, even a liberal, in the right-leaning mainstream media).

Away from the cameras and off the page, Tom Friedman must realize that his reputation as the sultan of geo-politics has suffered a sovereign invasion of reality.

  22. salty says:

    Uh, the Friedman is skipping.

Whenever Tom Friedman comes up these days, I harken back to David Rees’ representation and that darn moustache.

  23. Hunter Morrow says:

    “The Moustache of Understanding.” Priceless.
