Number of rationales the Bush administration used for invading Iraq, according to Press Secretary Tony Snow. A University of Illinois study, however, identified 23 different rationales for invading Iraq advanced by the Bush administration. (HT: Salon War Room)
Dang, you scared me. When I saw that “1″ I thought for sure you were going to tell us Bush’s approval rating was down to 1. I’m still standing firm behind him, though.
May 19th, 2006 at 2:18 pmSo Snowflake disrespects Helen Thomas just like little Scottie, AND doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about.
May 19th, 2006 at 2:21 pmSo C Storms…please define “standing firm”.
May 19th, 2006 at 2:23 pm#1 – When I saw that “1″ I thought for sure you were going to tell us Bush’s approval rating was down to 1.
Give it time. Soon even sheep like you will leave him. It will hard for you when you realize GWB led you around by the nose, and you will feel like an idiot, and so you should, but you will get over it.
May 19th, 2006 at 2:25 pm#1 – Don’t worry, it probably won’t be that long before your “scare” comes true. As long as the current administration continues to spin and lie, the “approval rating†will continue to plummet.
Interesting that Tony sold out his ethics as well as his honesty when he decided to “whore” himself to Pres. Bush and the failure that is the neo-con-spiracy..
May 19th, 2006 at 2:26 pmBut dahlinks….didn’t Tony look ma-a-a-a-hvelous shoveling that shit?
May 19th, 2006 at 2:27 pmSeeking to control the OIL of Iraq is the only real reason for the occupation!
May 19th, 2006 at 2:33 pmThis sounds liie fuzzy math to me. In reality, there were zero viable rationales for war in Iraq. How about that, Tony?
I have to agree with C Storms, I thought it was W’s approval rating. Shoot.

Snow sold out when he was still at FOX when he became a shill for Bush. He had no ethics left when he took the job at the WH.
May 19th, 2006 at 2:34 pmIf 1 person supported Bush, would it be his mommy, his daddy or Rove? I’m guessing it would be his Mom. Bush Senior may have been involved in Iran Contra… but at least he was smart enough to not invade Iraq. He MUST think his son is a dunce.
May 19th, 2006 at 2:42 pmBudd,
Yeah, I saw that coming once I hit “Post”. I was afraid to come back and see what was written. By “standing firm” I meant I am completely behind the President and the decisions he’s making.
Lucky for me, most of the readers won’t be smart enought to think that was funny.

When she takes her little old patriotic foot and kicks them squarely in the teeth they have no choice but to treat her like a confused and delirious grandma. If they don’t the other reporters might get the impression that critical questions are acceptable… what… critical questions… those are what crazy old ladies ask… you don’t want people to think you’re a crazy old lady do you?

Since when did the United States give up it’s sovereignty to the United Nations? Last time I checked, the U.N. wasn’t included in any part of our Constitution.
May 19th, 2006 at 3:06 pmum… he SAID “one”, but listed 3, 4?:
MR. SNOW: There has only been one rationale, as you know, Helen, and this that (1) Saddam Hussein had resisted — what is the proper number, 17 United Nations resolutions — and (2) had refused repeatedly to permit weapons inspectors to do their work, and consistent with that. And also (3) we had cited other concerns in terms of democracy and (4?) human rights. That case has never changed.
May 19th, 2006 at 3:07 pm#13, since when have Iraq and Iran given up their sovereignty to the UN? UN member nations should ALL abide by the agreed-upon UN rules, not just certain member nations. Bush thinks that America does not have to abide by any international law, and that he can ignore our own Constitution. Yet you’ll still stand behind him?
May 19th, 2006 at 3:23 pm#14 Katy – good catch! ‘ I’m no number scientist but I count four as well.
May 19th, 2006 at 3:53 pm#14
Katy,
Nice catch indeed!
Tony sounds like Lloyd Bridges’ character in Airplane!
(Jane, this one’s for you…)
Steve McCroskey: I gotta say something about that guy up there, and I can sum it all up in just one word: courage, dedication, daring, pride, pluck, spirit, grit, metal, and G-U-T-S, guts! Why, Ted Striker has got more guts in his little finger than most of us have in out large intestine, including the colon!
May 19th, 2006 at 4:09 pmWC, “Nervous?” “Yes” “First time?” “No, I’ve been nervous lots of times.”
Whenever I see an interview where a person is asked “Can you give us your impression of (whatever)”, I always think “I’m sorry, I don’t do impressions, my field is psychiatry.” from Airplane II

May 19th, 2006 at 4:38 pmOK…this is my last Airplane II quote for the day…
Steve McCroskey: Jacobs, what have you got on Elaine Dickinson?
Jacobs: Well, I’m two inches taller, a better dancer, and much more fun to be with.
(Apologies to the other readers for being OT, but we have to have a little humor in our days)
May 19th, 2006 at 4:44 pmAnd my last OT Airplane quote of the day: “Headquarters? What is it?” “It’s a big building with lots of generals, but that’s not important right now.”
May 19th, 2006 at 5:03 pmWhen there are some many excuses for this idiotic war, there is only one explanation – it is all crap and nonsense. Impeach and jail the liars.

You might want to re-think that position. Because if it were the other way around, I doubt he would stand behind you.
May 19th, 2006 at 6:10 pmSnow practiced his trade well over at FOX news. Now he can apply the same bullshit in the press room.
May 19th, 2006 at 7:27 pmBTW, I forgot how much I laughed when I saw Airplane.
May 19th, 2006 at 7:31 pmJanie,
I think you’re fogetting that Iraq invaded Kuwait and did not abide by the peace deal that stopped the U.S. from going all the way to Baghdad. Iraq began the war, didn’t follow through with their end of the bargain, so we re-instated the war.
We did not need UN approval, but chose to attempt to use the UN as a method of peaceful negotiation. Didn’t work, so we went back to war.
May 19th, 2006 at 10:22 pmStorm nowhere was the invasion and occupation part of any of those UN sactions or the cease fire accords…so stop being soooo dishonest as those you attempt to carry their lies and dishonesty for do.
May 20th, 2006 at 1:52 amThe link says 27, not 23.
May 20th, 2006 at 3:51 am#19: Stop calling me Shirley.
May 20th, 2006 at 4:23 am28
C Storms, the UN did not back the invasion you idiot. It quite clearly said “No.”
It wasn’t like they were using diplomatic double speak and further, it wasn’t all weapons inspectors Saddam was objecting to, it was weapons inspectors from America, who his guys had actually caught spying out Iraq’s meagre defenses. Much as I detest saying it, the guy actually had a frigging point.
You cannot use the UN as an argument pro the Iraq war, when the UN clearly did not back the Iraq war.
