Matt Drudge is looking for any excuse to smear Al Gore and his new movie, An Inconvenient Truth. He’s been running this story, unsourced, all day:
ThinkProgress contacted Gore’s representatives, who unequivocally confirmed that Al Gore and his associates walked from the Majestic Hotel to the screening at Cannes. Further, Paramount has committed to making the entire tour promoting the film carbon neutral.
UPDATE: At 3:38 PM EST on May 22, about an hour after this post, Drudge yanked the smear on Gore from his site. The report that was removed contained no links or attribution to any source.
UPDATE II: Reuters reports that Gore was seen using a car at another time during the Cannes film festival. This story was first linked by Drudge on May 25. It does not substantiate Drudge’s original, May 22, report. In fact, it specifically says Gore and his associates walked to the screening.
UPDATE III: Click HERE for ThinkProgress’ complete coverage of Al Gore and An Inconvenient Truth.
Does Drudge pull his stories out of his a**?
May 22nd, 2006 at 2:35 pmDrudge is lying again…who’d a thunk it?
May 22nd, 2006 at 2:46 pmLying Liars.
May 22nd, 2006 at 2:47 pm“Drudged from the sewer up”
May 22nd, 2006 at 2:47 pmDrudge is having a flashback to 2000, when publishing made-up shit about Gore was required for journalists and journalist wanna-bes, and easier to get away with.
May 22nd, 2006 at 2:52 pmMaybe Drudge uses his website to record dreams he has. It’s like his little personal blog!
May 22nd, 2006 at 2:52 pmDrudge is pure sludge so who cares what that greasy fool spews > lol.
May 22nd, 2006 at 2:53 pmConsidering Al Gore is in great shape for a 58 year old man, I believe he walked. Had it been a story about chubby Cheney taking the car, I might have expected as much.
Really, the right is TERRIFIED of Gore. They know he won in 200. They kow he could win again in 2008. They just hope that if they can take him out now, we’ll win up with Hillary.
May 22nd, 2006 at 2:53 pmThe only way for someone like Gore to stop this is to sue Drudge, perhaps for malicious intent, and take him to court. If not, he most likely will continue to defame Democrats and progressives with impunity.
May 22nd, 2006 at 2:55 pmOf course, it’s all about the smears and the distortions and of course the payola. President Gore is far more of a patriot that any NeoCon ever will be. His only mistake was honorably conceding 6 years ago. He thought he was doing the right thing for the country. But the NeoCons’s true rapacious nature somehow took him by surprise even after 8 years in office. That shows he has a good heart but is sadly a bit oblivious to the darker elements chomping at the bit to seize power.
Had enough yet? The ONLY way to end the NeoCon menace is to expose the rigged voting system. It’s the only chance we have of taking America back from the NeoCons. And right now, the ONLY Democrat willing to take it to the Republicans on this issue: Clint Curtis.
Curtis is the programmer who was hired by corrupt Florida Congressman Tom Feeney to rig the vote. Disgusted by what he saw, Curtis became a whistleblower. Now he’s challenging Feeney to his congressional seat in Florida’s 24th district!
His candor and firsthand experience on the election fraud issue makes him The One Crucial Democratic Candidate in ‘06. With Curtis in the race and taking it to Feeney, we will finally get this issue into the national press!
Please contribute to Clint Curtis for Congress, and let’s restore truth, justice and the American way!
http://www.clintcurtis.com
Thanks, everyone!
May 22nd, 2006 at 2:55 pmIt always cracks me up when the neo cons say progressives are playing dirty politics. Hell, they wrote the book on it.
May 22nd, 2006 at 3:00 pmOT: speaking of smears, O’Lielly just smeared this website mulitple times today. I consider that a badge of honor.

May 22nd, 2006 at 3:04 pmPost 8 > Yes the Republicans hope we will all back Hillary Clinton in 2008 for president > she has agreed to be a shill like Kerry was in 2004 and lose to any GOP clown nominated for Prez!
May 22nd, 2006 at 3:04 pmHillary is actually a Republican and I said so today in think fast thread! She and her hubby have sold out to the Bush cabal and they are not able to hide that fact any longer! I helped Bill for 8 years basically, but he would like me to shut up since I know he is a fraud now!
Don’t let facts get in the way of reality.
May 22nd, 2006 at 3:05 pmFor crissakes.
My local weatherman can’t predict tomorrow’s weather accurately, let alone the next 100 years!!! Although I do believe that mankind has affected the environment, we have no idea with any certainty what the final outcome will be. Yes, glaciers are shrinking. Yes, ocean temperatures have increased. Yes, the air is hazier worldwide. Vast forests have dissapeared. Yet, some parts of the word have experienced record snowfall and/or floods.
It cannot be denied that the industrial revolution has basically been competing with naturally evolved life on earth for it’s resources. Think about how much air runs through you automobile and how much poison it generates per day. Per year. Machines gobble up resources and spew out waste. It is the nature of industrialized society. The ecosystem will suffer, and so will everything that relies on it (us in particular). This isn’t a battle for Earth’s survival. It is for our own. Life forms have come and gone, but the little blue marble rolls on.
Personally, there’s nothing we can do to affect it at this point. Unfortunately people are posturing to PROFIT anyway they can. It’s the ‘merican thang to do. So, get creative, and get rich!?
May 22nd, 2006 at 3:05 pmCan we start up a Drudge page that just makes crap up, too?
Some examples:
GWB to CIA: “Get me some of that Afghani blow.”
Tancredo says “Brown people are not Americans,” Says he “meant every damn word.”
Majority Leader Frist arrested for illegally selling organs.
May 22nd, 2006 at 3:06 pmWait for it to be repeated ad nauseum on Fox….

I’m almost convinced that Hillary will get the Democratic nod, and that Gore will have to run as an independent. Fortunately, unlike most politicians, he’s been working and making friends since 2000. I think he could get Independent funding - Google, his movie profits, Soros, etc…
I’ve never really liked Hillary. As much as I would love to see a woman president, she’s not the one.

May 22nd, 2006 at 3:18 pm[…] According to Think Progress, Matt Drudge of The Drudge Report has been running this headline on the front page without any sourcing: Is it true? Of course not. It was put out by Matt Drudge. ThinkProgress contacted Gore’s representatives, who unequivocally confirmed that Al Gore and his associates walked from the Majestic Hotel to the screening at Cannes. Further, Paramount has committed to making the entire tour promoting the film carbon neutral. […]
May 22nd, 2006 at 3:21 pmYou take the bait and miss the point, oh my brothers! Even if Al took a dozen coal burning helicopters across the street and back, it does not in any way besmirch the evidence for global warming.
The know-nothing tightie-righties evade the real issues through these personal attacks all the time. And we keep falling for it. (Well, you do.) The attack is not the point of their behavior. Avoiding the issue on the table is the point.
Our task is to keep the focus on what matters. It’s clear enough and important enough that we can safely ignore most of these distracting personal attacks.
May 22nd, 2006 at 3:23 pmPost 22 > I am willing to support Al Gore for president in 2008, because I actually believe he won Florida in 2000 and was cheated out of the presidency! In hindsight it’s obvious that Joe Lieberman got paid “30 pieces of silver” to screw over Gore, and Bill Clinton met with Bush Senior before the Supreme Court appointed his son Dubya Dunce as Prez! I actually wrote a FAX to Bill a day after the 2000 election to send the FBI to Florida to assure a true count of the ballots, but Bill had already cut a deal with the Bush family! Sad but the truth!!!

May 22nd, 2006 at 3:26 pmAsk him to prove it, otherwise it is libel.
That’s what these hate-mongers - the extreme nuts of the right - do. They make hyperbolic statements so they get attention. Either they are payed out right to do this by the nuts of the right, or somehow get compensation, and personal gratification. Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Coulter are experts at it. It is really shameful, and an embarrassment for our country.
I always hope the heart of America will see it for what it is and rise above it this garbage. Trouble is, most of the media outlets are controlled by wing-nuts, so they propagate this crap. Ho hum :-(

May 22nd, 2006 at 3:42 pmJust got done checking the Drudge site.
The smear about the Gore movie premiere entourage in limos is no longer there.
Way to go, Raw Story and its readers!
May 22nd, 2006 at 3:52 pmMatt Drudge does not lose a single opportunity to provide evidence of his sleaziness and unctuous vapidity.
Narcissistic as he is, he is probably burning with envy for not being at a Film Festival.

May 22nd, 2006 at 4:32 pm“Jay Randall” = Republican shill? Is it only a matter of time before he starts telling people how they had Vince Foster and Ron Brown killed? Or would that blow his fake”Clinton supporter” story?
Hillary and Bill are the only democrats in the past two decades to face down the full might of republican smear machine and win. They beat back every possible slander - murder, drug running, prostitution, open marriage, lesbianism. And they won; Bill repeatedly, and Hillary looks certain to cruise to re-election.
I don’t know if she would make a great president. But she is the only candidate I am 100% certain would beat the right wing slime down. Every other democrat has withered in front of it.
The idea that they are now closet republicans is absurd on its face. Peddle that tripe somewhere else, shill.
“30 pieces of silver” … I guess YOU always knew that how his “kind” was, huh?
May 22nd, 2006 at 4:36 pmPost 46 > you are as stupid as the Bush loving fools who post on TP threads > lol. Hillary and Bill Clinton are completely in bed with the Bush family now you dumb dunce nut! I’m no longer amused.
He’s not a journalist; he’s a webmaster. He’s also a slimeball.
It doesn’t matter, because the conservative house of cards is coming down, hard. I take real pleasure in that.
May 22nd, 2006 at 4:44 pmI heard this hateful lie repeated on the ABS feed of my local Air America radio station!!!!
Can no one in the freaking MSM ever check a source (not if it comes down to vilifying a Democrat.)
When do we get permission to drag these traitors into the streets by their hair and stone them in the town square?
Oh, sorry. We’re liberals. We’re supposed to stand around and while until they round up our families and ship us to death camps.
May 22nd, 2006 at 4:48 pmIt is a shame, when all they can come up with is that Gore had an entourage of 5 cars.
May 22nd, 2006 at 4:57 pmHow little can one go? Remember small minds have small ideas.
During this Felonious Age of President “Butch”, Slander is the highest form of Free Speech.
Atta boy Mr. Drudge!…for paying close attention to the Straussian/Rovian practices of “deception at all costs”; your studies have paid off handsomely.
Mr. Drudge, will you still be laughing condescendingly at us, the 70% who disapprove of “Butch”, as we sit in the ashes of a once-proud Republic? Will you care? Or are we expendable to you, too?
But please, as you laugh and dine on the King’s caviar from your remote, propagandized typewriter, remember the good ole’ days when journalistic integrity WAS the envy of man’s brief history.
Also, when at last your usefullness to their “machine” is of little value, come visit us all at Gitmo where we “American Citizenry” will be exchanging our memories of Old Glory in it’s heyday.

May 22nd, 2006 at 5:08 pmDrudge is into Fudge.
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:27 pmDrudge’s only value is that he has a link to Molly Ivins on his site, AND reading his headlines tells me what the dumbest of bastards will be talking about today and tomorrow.
He did us all a service by proving that anyone with a modem and an ISP can be a journalist. Unfortunately, he isn’t much of one.
At least the fools in D.C. aren’t paying him to publish…
Otherwise, f**k him, the horse he rode in on, and his little cat that sings the blues.
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:28 pmafter 3:38 pm est? that would be after the dittoheads had all had their fill anyway. tomorrow, no one will tell them that’s gone and they won’t notice.
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:36 pmHa, now Drudge has replaced the “five cars” story with a reprinted one from 1997 about how much fuel Gore burned to attend a summit. So, I guess this particular straw man of Drudge’s has been around for some time.
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:38 pmAPOLOGIZE YOU BASTARD!
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:40 pmYanking it is not enough.
Does Drudge pull his stories out of his a**?
This one does indeed have all of the earmarks–er, smearmarks–of something pulled out of one’s ass. I’d say that’s a yes, at least for this one.
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:44 pmNot only has Drudge removed the false story about Gore from his web site, he was also forced to remove a false story about Howard Dean and the New Orleans race.

May 22nd, 2006 at 5:58 pmI know of someone who reads the Drudge report everyday like it is the Gospel and he must have his fill of it to survive. How sad. Drudge rhymes with sludge and that is what fill the head of this clown whom the neocons worship.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:05 pmshows the thugs are scared of gore.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:23 pmHmmm…
Can people get any more hysterical?
It is entirely reasonable that even if Al Gore walked, he would have his staff (aka entourage) bring their transportation to the new location so Gore wouldn’t have to walk after the event.
The difference being “Al Gore’s entourage…” instead of “Al Gore & his entourage…”
Drudge has no legal liability in that case. Regardless of what you feel about him.

May 23rd, 2006 at 12:25 pmIn the “a little deception goes a long ways” department, here is a quote from a letter to the editor published in a Helena (Montana) newspaper on May 24:
“Former Vice President Gore wants Americans to become worried about global warming. OK. Where is his concern? In a recent Internet news story about his global warming movie in Cannes, France, Gore and his entourage used five vehicles to travel a measly 500 yards to get to the film festival.
Imagine how much pollution those five vehicles emitted while saving Gore and his entourage from having to walk a whole 500 yards. Yep, Gore sure is concerned about global warming.”
It only took two days for Drudge’s smear to go from outright lie to political reality, at least in eyes of those ignorant to believe a single word that comes out of Drudge’s mouth. Granted, we are talking about the right wing’s faithful backwater base here, but the mere fact that such blatant lies are repeated as if it were an established fact speaks volumes to Drudge’s ability to help the Republican’s spin machine perpetuate the never ending stream of lies coming out of the White House.

Rueters seems to be defending Gore. They even have a comment from “the representative”. What kind of source is that? Either way, their defense of the Drudge statement just lends credibility to the original report.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:42 am90%of you are just as bad, if not worse, than what you are accusing Drudge of. You speak of slander and defamation by Mr. drudge, and turn around and do the same to him. Baseless lies. Grow up. All of you. Take a look at his site right now, and see that he DID have a source he got that tidbit from, and DID NOT make it up. So busy whining and defending your hypocrite that you jump down the throat instantly of anyone who opposes rather than letting them have the opportunity to defend themselves. And it turns out that YOU ALL were wrong, and Mr. Gore DID in fact drive.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:43 amTypical communist liberals.
Hey, Drudge wouldn’t be around, you know, if Al Gore didn’t invent the Internet.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:43 amIt is very simple. Liberals don’t want to talk about how liberals fly around the world in provate jets (well, just the rich ones in Hollywood and politics) and how that is a total waste of precious resources. Lets make a deal. Lets tax all private jets that fly less than full. $100,000 per empty seat as a start. Who gets hurt, the poor? No way, they don’t even fly. So this would be the most progressive tax possible. While we’re at it, lest tax jet fuel when used in any private application at 100%. There again, an envioronmentally friendly tax that is progressive. And while we’re at it, who needs to make $20,000,000 a year? No one. So lets tax all entertainment salaries after a “fair wage” of $5,000,000, at a 95% rate. What do you say?

May 25th, 2006 at 11:45 amHA HA HA HA! AL GORE IS A MORON! GLOBAL WARMING OH NO…WHAT DOES HE THINK THE SUN IS SUPPOSED TO STAY A CONSTANT TEMPERATURE ALL THE TIME AND NEVER CHANGE?
May 25th, 2006 at 11:45 amI’m sure Gore walked over the ocean to France! I have used 1/10th the energy that Gore and the rest of you global warming pukes have in my life time! Tip for you all, pavement causes Global warming. Do yourselves a favor and looking into long term weather patterns of earth, you pukes might learn something!
May 25th, 2006 at 11:46 amDoes no one bother to mention the 70 second ad that shows how much pollution Gore caused by flying his jet all over the place? Those reports have been out since the Clinton days, and Gore is abusing a lot more resources than any common person can.
The majority of people don’t have SUVs or Humvees, or any of that, and the gas crisis already caused any poor to not use them. Since the majority is poor, only the rich have the ability to do that. Gore isn’t telling all of his rich buddies not to drive around.
And don’t kid yourselves, most of those politicians and ex-politicans are rich, be it from legal or illegal money.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:46 amThink Progress’ needs to check its facts. The Drudge Report story was based on a May 22 Rueters report. That report even gets an acknowledgement from a Gore or Paramount representative that Gore’s bloated entourage caravaned in 5 cars a short distance to a Cannes function. But that’s apparenlty OK becuase such a practice is “common” at these types of elitist events according to the rep.
Gore needs to lay off the preaching and mix in a salad once in a while. He is starting to look and sound like the bloviated Michael Moore.

Maybe whoever wrote the article on the head of this page should actually read the reuters article:
http://in.today.reuters.com/ news/ newsArticle.aspx?type=entertainmentNews&storyID=2006-05-22T232359Z_01_NOOTR_RTRJONC_0_India-250545-1.xml
He DID ride in the cars for 500 meters. So he walked at a different time. It seems like Drudge didn’t make anything up. Perhaps your vision is clouded guys. What do you think?
May 25th, 2006 at 11:48 amMaybe if you leftys actually read the linked article you would see that it was a Reuters report not a Drudge Report. All he did was link the article cuz it was kinda funny and a good rib. Read it:http://in.today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=entertainmentNews&storyID=2006-05-22T232359Z_01_NOOTR_RTRJONC_0_India-250545-1.xml
May 25th, 2006 at 11:48 amACTUALLY READ IT….don’t just assume and them emote all over the place. They took cars to Cannes Festival activities and for the premiere he walked…jeez so sensitive you leftys are. Ease up and get a life.
Can you jackasses read? Dridge linked to an Reuters article which said Gore’s team drove 500 meters and his people acknowledged this fact by saying it was a normal practice at the festival to arrive in a car. It was no a Drudge dream, unlike the world in which you live!
May 25th, 2006 at 11:48 amWhat do you mean UNSOURCED STORY?
Drudge links to news stories on other sites (including the lefty media), and you can read it and weep right here on Reuters:
http://in.today.reuters.com/ news/ newsArticle.aspx?type=entertainmentNews&storyID=2006-05-22T232359Z_01_NOOTR_RTRJONC_0_India-250545-1.xml
Don’t blame Drudge because Al Gore is a hypocrite and “invented the internet.”
May 25th, 2006 at 11:49 amAl Gore is a political opportunist. This bandwagon he is on highlights his hypocrisy. For an average American family, driving a 6 cylinder sedan, filled once a week-they’d have to drive 92 years just to catch up with what Gore burned on airforce 2 going to and from environmental events. That is an indisputable truth. What next? “Getting it on” for virginity, Burning crosses against racism, lying for the truth? Which will it be.
Gore is a hypocrite. Thinkprogress is a flack-site. So drop the koolaid and hang your heads in shame. Shmucks!
May 25th, 2006 at 11:49 amHey dufuses, check out this link! Is Reuters a tool of the right? http://in.today.reuters.com/ news/ newsArticle.aspx?type=entertainmentNews&storyID=2006-05-22T232359Z_01_NOOTR_RTRJONC_0_India-250545-1.xml
May 25th, 2006 at 11:49 amHaha
“Drudge smears gore”
“UPDATE II” - Ummmm, nevermind Reuters confirmed it.
Maybe they need update an update III “thinkprogress.org smears Drudge”
May 25th, 2006 at 11:50 amWhere is the outrage on here towards Reuters??????? That hard right bunch over there made the first post of this story, They should be tarred and feathered for giving Drudge the chance to post this story. Of course Gore walked across the ocean to Cannes so he wouldn’t use any jet fuel either.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:50 amWhy don’t you guys even want to know the truth?
How much CO2 does big Al create while flying all over the world?
You can see it here.
http://streams.cei.org/
May 25th, 2006 at 11:50 amGore is a looser. Always has been and always will be.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:51 amHaha
Big headline - “Drudge smears Gore”
“UPDATE II” - Ummmm, nevermind Reuters confirmed Drudges story.
Maybe they need update an update III “thinkprogress.org smears Drudge”
May 25th, 2006 at 11:51 amThis wonderful wonderful page needs a nice hammer and sickle! Gore Bore ought to reinvent the Internet and exclude Drudge! Is there anyone on this site over the age of 15?
May 25th, 2006 at 11:51 amthis website has lost all credibility, and so have the morons that posted against drudge in here
May 25th, 2006 at 11:52 amDrudge on one side and all the networks on the other (ABC,NBC,CBS) , so I think you liberal doughfaces should grow up.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:53 amReuters reported the short carbon positive drive of Al Gorge as normal practice, Am I to beleve you think thay are in on this massive coverup?
May 25th, 2006 at 11:54 amSo it’s true Al Gore cares more about his image than the newest cause dejour (global warming). Come on people see it for what it is a bash at capitalism. Remember hippies campfires cause co2 also.
Well at least he didn’t make up a bunch of bull sh*t on global warming like Gore..
May 25th, 2006 at 11:54 amYou people are unbelieveable. Drudge doesn’t just print stories. He has LINKS! It was reported by Reuters and I read it there before Drudge. So if you have a problem, argue with them. He was seen by witnesses. Then, when he found out there was a controversy about it, he began walking everywhere. Don’t you all realize that 90% of ALL politicians, Dem and GOP, are hypocrits?
May 25th, 2006 at 11:54 amYeah, like the guy that ‘invented’ the internet, the guy that had a lake drained so he could row a canoe across a 2″ deep stream, a guy that delivers a global warming warning in NYC on the coldest day on record for NYC, etc, etc, etc, isn’t above a lie about riding in a car.
What a laugh!!!
May 25th, 2006 at 11:55 amhttp://in.today.reuters.com/ news/ newsArticle.aspx?type=entertainmentNews&storyID=2006-05-22T232359Z_01_NOOTR_RTRJONC_0_India-250545-1.xml
Then again …. Maybe there is truth in Drudge’s story.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:56 amI love the shear arrogance of human beings in relation to global warming. We have been recording daily temperatures for just over 100 years, and we have the audacity to say that we KNOW why the earth is heating up at this point in time?? Over its MILLIONS of YEARS of history the earth has been much HOTTER and COLDER than right now without humans making a difference. Do I believe we should reduce our emissions…yes…but mainly so that we have better air to breathe and improve our environment. There are so many factors that have to do with weather and climate that frankly we just don’t understand yet. Remember one of the first things you are taught in a college science class is that science can not PROVE anything. We merely have to accept as fact something that can not be disproven at this time, because we are constantly discovering new, previously unknown factors every day(this goes for all our knowledge not just global warming.)
May 25th, 2006 at 11:57 amDrudge was telling the truth. He walked to the screening from the festival but drove to the festival from the hotel.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:57 amDrudge posted a LINK to a Rueters article you dummies. He did not claim anything but merley reporting on a story written by others. I guess FACTS get in the way of a good argument, huh?
May 25th, 2006 at 11:57 amReuters, who believes a right wing service media establishment like them anyways.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:57 amWe all know that the inventor of the INTERNET would never lie about global warming either.
I’d like to point out that Drudge simplye beat Reuters to the punch with the story. Here’s the text as it seems most who read this site have not read it.
“Last week, Gore and his team were seen driving the 500 metres or so from a hotel to the Cannes festival headquarters in several cars. The representative said that arriving at events like photocalls and news conferences in cars was normal practice in Cannes. And Gore walked the shorter distance from another hotel to the festival for the movie’s screening.”
Perhaps picking the “proper” fight might be more inorder to prove one’s point. Civil arguements begin with the facts. Perhaps THINK PROGRESS, quoted here “UPDATE II: Reuters reports that Gore was seen using a car at another time during the Cannes film festival,” would be better served and could more articulately address the issue if they actually lead with a factual head line. “A” car implies only one was used when the actual story by Reuters articultes they were seen in several vehicles.
Its semantics, but at the end of the day, if you are going to critize Drudge for running misleading headlines that now appear to be supported by Reuters, you should also be sure to not mislead your own readers with your your lead-in tags.
Beyond these arguements, if Gore flying all over the world to promote his movie, I’d like to see Wired run an article on HIS Carbon Footprint.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:58 amEvery once in a while I stumble across something like this–a sort of partisan pity party rant. The interesting thing is that the rage, juvenile invective, inability to de-center and irrationality are common to both sides. The extreme left and right are two sides of the same coin, distinguishable only by the tag words each uses to stake their ideological position.
I could go to an equally crazy rightwing blog and get the exact same inability to think critically–just a different polarity. It’s a fascinating human phenomenon–the ablity to completely close out another veiwpoint and demonize anyone not enfrahnchised in your heterodoxy.
The wonderful thing though is that the US two party, EC variant of democracy succeeds in filtering these extremes to the edge of the debate–the more kooky on the left or right you are, the less say you have in policy. It means that while you are voluably ugly, you’re powerless.
Yayyy democracy–it works!!
May 25th, 2006 at 11:58 amDrudge is merely pointing out the blatant hypocrisy of the eco-nazis of the Left. Do as I say, not as I do. Let’s check and see if Gore flew commercial or charter to get to Canne… want to take bets?
May 25th, 2006 at 11:58 amYou idiot libs, I read through the first ten comments and feel dumber for having done so. Drudge posted the links to several stories - one from the AP, your favorite lib “news” organization - backing his claim up. Oops, liberalism at its best, I truly can’t wait until you libs finally become the second class citizens you are.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:58 amThe Drudge site only picks up stories from other news sources. I doubt you’ll see Gore moving out of his huge home in Tennessee to save the environment. He’s just another phony, like most politicians, which includes Republicans.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:59 amAl Gore is a Moron so it does not surprise me to see him pushing a non-fact such as global warming. You clowns say neo-cons are scare mongers! At least terrorism is a proven fact you idiots. Oh ya 9-11 happened, global warming is’nt.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:59 amThese comments are hilarious. No wonder democrats have been out of power so long. Keep up the good work.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:00 pmgee libs, seems you got smacked in the face with an “Inconvenient Truth” yourself! - I suppose you goofs who went off half cocked have some apology emails to write!
you know, it is possible to agree with the dudes policies (although I dont) and NOT swallow every attempt at theatrics he throws at you
May 25th, 2006 at 12:00 pmActually, his source is right there on the site. Its a Reuters article. Seems a little silly to even be mentioning it up here.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:01 pmThinkprogress actually claims to be nonpartisan? You’re about as nonpartisan as Matt Drudge and Michael Savage. Drudge and Savage should apply for tax-exemption immediately…
Not only is it remarkably obvious that you are a liberal organization based solely on your biographies, Tom Daschle, maybe the most partisan Senator of our generation, is a contributor.
The far left, which you undoubtedly are a part of, and the far right make me absolutely nauseous.
The fact that your orginization has qualified to be tax-exempt is an absolute joke. And, speaks volumes to the sorry state of our country during these times.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:01 pmThe most recent update on this site is inaccurate (intentionally dishonest?)
May 25th, 2006 at 12:02 pmTP states “Gore was seen using a car” while the Reuters report linked states “Last week, Gore and his team were seen driving the 500 metres or so from a hotel to the Cannes festival headquarters in several cars.”
Hate Bush and Drudge all you like, but that does nothing to make Gore right.
Fanatics of any stripe are distasteful, but the degree to which the Bush-haters will lie and make stuff up is simply laughable.
When I first saw this story, I thought “So What?!”
Yet when I see the tizzy into which the ABBers have worked themselves, all I can do is laugh and shake my head.
When did “Democrat” come to mean “willingly deluded fool”?
All of you Angry Leftists need to stop complaining about the “Evil Neocons” whose only crime is to offer ideas on the process of government. The fact that you blindly side with the party that can only obstruct and undermine the government shows that there is more than one side that can be brainwashed. Constructive criticism and feasible ideas by a realistic Democrat would go a log further in challenging the Bush administration. By the way, since Bush got reelected, where is that draft that everybody said he’d reinstate? Where are the millions in poverty caused by Welfare reform? How is globabl warming causing frost in May? And why would Drudge link to this site?
May 25th, 2006 at 12:02 pmIt’s manbearpig stupid
May 25th, 2006 at 12:03 pmThe report about AlGore driving big, fat cars as he promotes his satirical enironmental movie is plausable. Just like Ariana Huffington flying cross country in her private jet conducting telephone interviews about how SUVs are a disgrace because of the low fuel mileage.
Once again, those who do not like the message attack the messenger. Drudge Report is more accurate than most politicians and public figures would like it to be.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:03 pmWouldn’t it be fun to be a hippy piece of crap and criticize everyone and evereything that didn’t perfectly match your ideology? Accountability??? No way. That’s not for me, just for everyone I else. You could also be a defender of free speach and at the same time try to muffle the voices of your opponent. You lefties are what you hate…HYPOCRITES.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:04 pmDid he walk across country to get there or did he fly in a jet plane? And Drudge mainly provides links to stories. Gore is a hypocrite and no incorrect news story will change that.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:04 pmBear in mind-in the 70s-we were worried about gobal cooling! The world is warming up, geological records say the earth has done this hundreds of times. It has also cooled on as many occassions. This was without the help of man.
The scientific community is still coming to grips with this. Gore’s stance is alarmist, his practice hypocrytical.
Drudge simply provides links. Some level the right, others the left. thinkprogress is just another flack site, looking to push a political agenda for the purpose of gaining power over our lives. Any wonder we dislike you.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:05 pmSo now the small, hardly read, never-heard-of-before-Drudge-linked-to-you website known as thinkprogress.org has just had it’s 15 minutes of fame. Time to issue a big THANK YOU to Drudge for your free publicity. Enjoy it while it lasts, for your hit count will be back down to the measly few hundred per month that it was before Drudge decided to honor you with a link.
Although I must say it was a very humorous diversion to read all the Sore-Loserman comments on this site!
May 25th, 2006 at 12:05 pmAfter reading several of these inane posts, there is no doubt why the Democratic Party is known as the Looney Left. Just read what you have written. Just listen to how it sounds when you say it outloud. There is no logic or rational thought to it.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:05 pmOver the past 100 million years (less than 1% of the earths history) the earth was 5-10 degrees celcius WARMER than than it is today. (I’m sure if you search, you can find a more exact number) Therefore, you could conclude that global warming is returning the earth to its natural balance, where it should be. Not only that, but it was warmer in 1,000 AD than it is today…before the past mini ice age. So why don’t you use science to realize global warming is not the end of the world…just the end of the world as we know it. (Which is not a bad thing). You liberals could consider it progress if you choose.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:06 pmGore says that the entire world community of scientists are in consensus that humans are causing global warming. Why all the debate then? Because there is no consensus. Just because Gore says he invented the internet doesn’t make it true…
May 25th, 2006 at 12:06 pmThis is hilarious. This entire page started out with a bunch of liberal’s getting together and agreeing with each other, then drudge links to this page after he proves his story, and now all of you cowards flee in the face of facts and common sense. can’t you see how truly pathetic you all look?
May 25th, 2006 at 12:07 pmThanks for nothing Drudge.
And to you wannabe-conservatives - Go to your own websites to publish this trash. Your thinly veiled fascism isn’t wanted here.
The fact is, YOUR failed guy (Bush) has brought us to this point, where 70% of Americans don’t like him. Ah, I long for the days of sex scandals and NOT 2400 soldiers dead (not from hunting down Bin Laden, but from Cheney’s War in Iraq).
For shame on all of you criminals!
May 25th, 2006 at 12:07 pmI have just read everyone else’s comments. Looks like I am not alone is wondering what thinkprogress was thinking. I guess now thinkprogress will apologize to Drudge???? I think not, but they can sure demand a Drudge apology to Gore, can’t they? Those dems. Thank goodness Al Gore invented the internet.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:08 pmI think you guys are full of hate. It was just a mistake, do any of you ever make one of those? Chill out!
May 25th, 2006 at 12:08 pmInsert TwilightZone theme song here
May 25th, 2006 at 12:09 pmIts amazing how much crap can be stirred up just because someone drove to an event! Oh, wait, he walked! No wait, he drove. Who cares about a wanna be!
May 25th, 2006 at 12:09 pmOf course Gore drove. He only wants conservation for the average citizen. He can live in a huge house that cost a small fortune to heat and cool, but we need to conserve. We he takes an international flight he does not have to be on a private plane, but he often is. Oh the hypocrisy of it all…
May 25th, 2006 at 12:09 pmPerhaps AlGore did walk a few blocks to watch a few films at Cannes. For sake of argument let us accept that as the truth.
No matter. That is not the half of it.
AlGore still criss-crosses the globe burning thousands and thousands of gallons of fuel and spewing loads of the very pollutants he is whining about.
The incovenient truth is AlGore’s rank hypocrisy.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:10 pmI wonder how many homes Al Gore has? I wonder if he heats and cools those homes? I wonder if the homes are made of wood harvested from US forest? I wonder what all of the private jumbo jets that Al Gore uses to get from place to place are fueled with? I wonder if Al Gore watches television? I wonder if Al Gore thinks of any of this as he looks at his fat face in the mirror?
May 25th, 2006 at 12:10 pm“The only way for someone like Gore to stop this is to sue Drudge, perhaps for malicious intent”
If George Bush took that same initiative, he should sue every news agency besides Fox then…
morons…..
May 25th, 2006 at 12:11 pmSorry guys the only thing wrong in the report was that it was the screening vs a news conference.. Same princple-great ideas for the pions not for us elite. ” Last week, Gore and his team were seen driving the 500 metres or so from a hotel to the Cannes festival headquarters in several cars. The representative said that arriving at events like photocalls and news conferences in cars was normal practice in Cannes. And Gore walked the shorter distance from another hotel to the festival for the movie’s screening.”
May 25th, 2006 at 12:11 pmHow come the Earth was going to go through another ice age when I was in school in the 1970s?
May 25th, 2006 at 12:11 pmHow can we measure the depths of the ocean when we can’t even reach the bottom of the Atlantic?
How can glaciers that melt raise the level of the oceans? Does melting ice in your glass filled to the brim with water overflow the glass?
Why should the US sign any treaty that prevents us from a strong economy while developing third world nations don’t have to do anything and are polluting the world worse than the US?
Can anybody tell me what the weather in Baltimore MD will be in 10 days? 5 days? Tomorrow? Then how do you know what the weather on this planet was 100 million years ago?
The Left-Wing hypocrits need to shut up. You have gotten your way on making a disgusting sex act mainstream, you want people who break the law to invade our country, and you have managed to remove Jesus Christ from our society in lieu of Wiccans and Buddhans. I don’t care about your diversity, any man who would rather look at another man’s hairy smell ass as a sexual desire is a sick freak, and the White European Male is what made this country great. Civil War is coming and the left will be the first to feel the grip of death.
If you think the Cannes Limo story was crap, you should have seen what was linked from the Drudgereport between 10am-11am CT this morning. I will share: It was a link to CEI.org and a video that they put together showing how much Gore has had to travel accross the country to show his original slide presentation. It was stupid. Don’t get me wrong - I’ve not been a fan of Al’s but surffice it to say that any idiot could conclude that maybe the reason that Gore had this movie made - which has the potential to reach a much wider audience in theaters or DVD’s - was once again to do his part to cut back on all those trips!
Whether you buy Gore’s version of “global warming” or not is really beside the point. He is right about the weather patterns changing to the extreme and it MAY HAVE been something we all caused in the name of “progress.” And there may not be anything that we can do about it at this point - except pray for God’s mercy on us all.
Brian
May 25th, 2006 at 12:11 pmAND YOU CONSERVATIVES DON’T THINK . . . .
Look at the screen grab at the top of the Page.
At the time ThinkProgress posted this page, Drudge WAS unsourced.
He put the Reuters link on his site today. That screen grab above is from the 22nd!
So use some common sense. Whoops - forgot - Conservatives think common sense has a liberal bias.
Thank God for Stephen Colbert
May 25th, 2006 at 12:12 pmhey, wait theres video now. Don’t you all look like smucks
May 25th, 2006 at 12:12 pmFor one thing, the influence of Leo Strauss can be regarded as the result of a pre-fascist atmosphere in America. It appears that the American state, with its unelected president, venal Supreme Court, silent Congress, gutted Bill of Rights and compliant media leads our attention to the seizure of the Iraqi Oil Ministry. Clearly, the apparent demise of “anti-Americanism” as a respectable means of stifling recognition of American imperialism brings about the final subjugation of the Middle East, beginning with the $90bn invasion of Iraq. Perhaps for the first time since the late 1940s, Americanism as an ideology represents the crushing of internal dissent in order to propagate the essential Western imperial interests.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:12 pmWait Global Warming!
The world temp. has rose an unacceptable .6 degrees in the last 100 years. The temp in the U.S. has actully decreased. According to scientists. But every one will tell you that no thermometer is right. So who knows. Al Gore knows. Yea right.
DRILL DRILL DRILL
May 25th, 2006 at 12:13 pmMORE OIL MORE OIL MORE OIL.
Get a clue. Gore is all in it for himself. I happen to think global warming is a product of the fear factory. That’s only because I am an engineer and know when a technical person is blowing smoke up my arse.
However that is not the salient point here. The point to keep in mind is that if you libs want to be taken seriously…..GET A SERIOUS CANDIDATE.
Classy Lib = Tony Blair
Cheesy Lib = Al Gore.
And finally regarding Drudge…… you guys do not like him because he is effective. It has nothing to do with his fidelity to the truth. Its my experience the emotionalism and self centered nature of libs does not require much in the way of truth anyway.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:13 pmYou libs are stupid. He posted his source on the site. Once again facts don’t matter only your feelings. Gore is wrong about warming and if you care to see some facts just go to junkscience.com for all the proof you need.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:13 pmSo Drudge reports “500 yards from hotel to screening” rather than “500 meters from hotel to Cannes festival headquarters” and this is considered a false smear? Gore has a HUGE carbon footprint, he should shut up and stay home.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:14 pmI have lived in Nashville my whole life and watched Al Gore make up things about Republicans a long time. Something that is true that I have seen myself: Tipper drives a vintage Mustang that is very far from economical!!!!
May 25th, 2006 at 12:15 pmThis website is a fine example of left wing trash. Typical liberal response. Attack, attack, attack. Damn the truth….full steam ahead!!!
No wonder you guys are losing…..just keep up what you’re doing. We love it!!!
Run, Hillary Run!! If she wins your party’s nomination, you can kiss your party good-bye…….
May 25th, 2006 at 12:15 pmGood grief, you guys are all completely nuts. Get some therapy for God’s sake.
If any of you had actually bothered to, you know… read the damned link, you would see that it wasn’t something that Drudge “pulled out of his a**” or a “Republican smear”, or whatever other dillusional labels you wish to apply to it. It was a Reuters wire story. Even the headline Drudge used came directly from the Reuters wire story. That probably has something to do with the fact that the headline is preceded with the word “WIRE:” in captial letters on Drudge’s page.
Alright, go on now bashing the evil Neocon Reuters cabal at its India bureau, those evil Bush shills.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:15 pmThe lying libertarian right tries to smear Gore with “facts.” Little do they know, but true leftists do not care about facts and reality, but SOCIAL JUSTICE. See here for their pathetic logical and reasoned debate:

May 25th, 2006 at 12:15 pmThanks to Drudge for linking to this website. Based on my 2 minute perusal of the comments here I can safely say there is no need to return.
Please rename the site more appropriately. Something like dontthinkatall.org.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:15 pmHey LibsYou know what is really going to suck for you? To see you wallow in your misery from 2008 to 2016 when GOP is still in charge. MwahaHAHAHAHA….(payback is hell…Clinton/Gore 1992 to 2000). Have a great day!
May 25th, 2006 at 12:15 pmGlobal Warming is a myth blown out of proportion by the idiot liberal n i g g e r s in this country, f u c k every last one of you welfare hoarding entitlement craving wastes of space.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:16 pmI live in Chicago. 10 years ago the water in Lake Michigan was at very high levels. We were told by climate experts then that the Lake levels would continue to rise due to global warming. By this time Michigan Avenue was predicted to be under water. Many communities along the lake spent millions of dollars trying to ward off the “inevitable” erosion of the coastal bluffs. Now the lake levels are at near historic lows and you guessed it, this is attributed to global warming.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:16 pmAnyone who has studied science knows how hard it is to draw reliable conclusioins about a system with a small number of controllable variables. The climate involves a large number of uncontrollabe variables. Perhaps some readers might be interested to see what the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT has to say about current global warming hysteria. http://www.opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110008220

May 25th, 2006 at 12:16 pmAren’t livestock flatulence the number one cause of greenhouse gasses? And I could be wrong but I seem to remember reading in National Geographic a while back that one volcanic eruption’s gases probably equals the contributions of all of mankind’s history. Global Warming due to man is a moneymaking machine and extremely shortsighted as well as naive. Oh well believe what you want in a couple of years there will be something else to cry about.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:17 pmYou people are pitiful to behold. No wonder your candidates can’t win elections anymore. DrudgeReport simply posts links to “legitimate” news sources. I don’t understand why you all get so bent out of shape anyway. The only difference between Republicans and Democrats today is the spelling. Vote Libertarian. No, wait a minute, Libertarians are for legalization of drugs and open borders. Hell, I guess there isn’t a party out there that truly represents American values anymore.
And as far as global warming goes, puh-lease there’s more evidence to support evolution than global warming. And there’s no evidence supporting evolution. It takes more faith to believe in the worldly religions of evolution and global warming than to simply believe in God. It’s really a non-issue since most Americans do believe in God and Jesus Christ instead of some bill of goods being pushed by a bunch of self hating, anti-American, globalist pigs being led around like rats by the pied piper. Hopefully I didn’t offend any rats by comparing them to today’s Left.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:17 pmTo all the delusional hypocrits - read the story. Just because Drudge keeps pointing out ‘inconvenient truths’ doesn’t make them lies. Bill C. said he didn’t have sex with that woman, Drudge said he did. Who was correct? Drudge LINKED to an article that indicated a 500 metre car ride by “Mr Global Warming” aka GORON, and you call Drudge a liar. Anybody who will not think critically, even about the politicians he or she supports, should not be allowed to vote. We need people that will see the bad as well as the good about the politicians we are electing. Grow up and start THINKING like adults. Thinking is what is supposed to separate us from the rest of the animals.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:18 pm“And to you wannabe-conservatives - Go to your own websites to publish this trash. Your thinly veiled fascism isn’t wanted here.”
Ahhh…celebrate diversity
“I long for the days of sex scandals ”
Once again children…it was not a sex scandle…it was perjury…repeat after me P.E.R.J.U.R.Y
May 25th, 2006 at 12:18 pmGore is an elitist?!
Bush and Cheney are the biggest elitists to ever hold office.
Why poor rural white men continue to support an administration that, while looking like you, is every bit as effete and pretentious and inbred as the British monarchy is beyond all reason.
How many of you went to Yale and have grandfathers who sold weapons to the Nazis?
Stop supporting Bush, his family’s war, and his family’s fortune.
Instead, work on making this country truly a meritocracy - where anyone, not just a Bush, can have access to wealth and real power.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:19 pmReuters India 2006. All Rights Reserved.
A representative affiliated with “An Inconvenient Truth”, a film about global warming involving former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, has stressed that the movie and Gore’s tour to promote it are “carbon neutral”.
Last week, Gore and his team were seen driving the 500 metres or so from a hotel to the Cannes festival headquarters in several cars. The representative said that arriving at events like photocalls and news conferences in cars was normal practice in Cannes. And Gore walked the shorter distance from another hotel to the festival for the movie’s screening.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:21 pmgore is a bloated, pathetic and above all hypocritical figure completely out of touch with reality. nobody is fooled by him and anybody that still defends this loser needs some new cool aid.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:21 pmhaHA… You mess with Drudge, you get the horns. Since you were complaining about him repeating a story on the wire about Gore killing the environment:
http://in.today.reuters.com/ news/ newsArticle.aspx?type=entertainmentNews&storyID=2006-05-22T232359Z_01_NOOTR_RTRJONC_0_India-250545-1.xml
he decided to link you. Now you can hardly get into the site.
Still think Drudge is some chump? What does this server problem tell you about the number of users regularly getting on to this site? His secondary click traffic alone can cripple this place.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:21 pm#143. Funny that in the face of the facts you go right back to spewing the same crap you libs have been spewing since bush first won office. How is posting the truth about The Drudge Report trash? Maybe you should question ‘you own website’ about their justification of publishing erronious information about Matt Drudge. And since when is it ‘your own website’?
70% of Americans dislike Bush? Polls and statistics mean absolutely nothing. Polls are merely fashioned to show the outcome that the polling party wishes to show. The real poll will be during the next presidential election…the only poll that counts. Remember me when us ‘wannabe-conservatives’ are enjoying another house majority and another ‘wannabe-conservative’ president is elected.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:24 pm175 comments and not one of your paranoid lefties mentions that THIS WAS AN REUTERS WIRE STORY. Blame Reuters, not Drudge.
Yeah right, AP, part of the vast right-wing conspiracy.
