“The U.S. military is already gearing up for this outcome [long-term 'containment' of violence], but not for ‘victory’ any longer. It is consolidating to several ’superbases‘ in hopes that its continued presence will prevent Iraq from succumbing to full-flown civil war and turning into a failed state.”
IT NEVER WAS. THAT IS WHY GEORGE H W BUSH DIDN’T GO INTO BAHGDAD!
GEORGE W BUSH IS A MORON!
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:38 pmturning into..?
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:38 pmYes Superbases that will remain in Iraq till all the Oil is gone > lol.
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:38 pmMission Accomplished?
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:42 pmDid they get the moniker “superbases” from the fast food joints they inCORPORATE into the 21st century oil crusader lifestyle?
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:45 pmMission Accomplished. They have acheived complete and utter chaos.
Heck of a job, Bushy.
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:47 pmwill prevent Iraq from succumbing to full-flown civil war
Too late.
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:48 pmCall those super bases Forward Operating Bases for Operation Iranian Freedom 2006
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:49 pmYou will soon be mortered and shells from them superbases dont worry about that
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:50 pmThe hopelessly flawed, illegal and unwarranted “mission” in Iraq has devolved into containing the US in hell hole they can’t even figure out a way to get out of. Unless Mark is right when he says those superbases will be launching pads for the invasion of Iran.
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:54 pmExactly #7 … civil war is underway, complete with ethnic cleansing.
May 22nd, 2006 at 5:55 pmAh yes containment, that is what we could have had with Saddam, but our leaders were too greedy. Now this long term presence will make more money for the military-industrial complex and therefore, make more money for the crooks in DC.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:00 pmWhen do you ship out for the War butthead? Did you watch Baghdad ER. Maybe you should see it.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:01 pmSo…this seems to indicate that our military is in it’s ‘Last Throes’ in Iraq, doesn’t it?
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:01 pmJust when I thought the die hard Bushbots couldn’t sink any deeper into psychosis, along comes ANVILHEAD.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:08 pmHey dumbsh!t, I use caps when I am yelling something. It is called Internet etiquette. I don’t type all of my posts in caps, like you do jerk. I did it to make a point. Something you don’t ever have. A$$hole.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:11 pmI knew we would win “over there”.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:11 pmThe more I read Butthead the more I realize he can’t be for real. Thanks for adding some spice to our discussion!
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:21 pmI kid around with friends and you aren’t one of them d!ckhead.
And I will never love reading your lame ass posts.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:21 pmGee if we only keep our bases half as long they have been in Europe/Pacific can we call that a “Victory” or are those defeats as well?
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:29 pmWaiting for trolls to come and say we have caused the lack of “victory” because us Progs only want failure. Wow we can make a lot happen just by talking about it.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:30 pmGee if we only keep our bases half as long they have been in Europe/Pacific can we call that a “Victory†or are those defeats as well?
Comment by Retired Republcan Veteran — May 22, 2006 @ 6:29 pm
Depends on how many new Osama’s the CIA fund to keep the situation destabilised to require the bases in the first case
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:32 pm@ANVILHEAD – JOIN THE ARMY
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:33 pmThe bases in Europe, and the Pacific, do not face a constant stream of violence, nor or they placed in countries with governments as unstable, as Iraq. The last time we kept troops in a divided country, with an unstable government the results were not too good for the US.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:33 pm“Victory” “Defeat” are outmoded terms just like formally declaring “war” and having a “front line” to fight on. So get rid of the first two terms and we will be in line with the new age of “war”. Oh yeah, the average mouth breather wants to hold on to the term “victory” or “win”. (Psssst, don’t tell all the numbnuts that war ain’t the same as it used to be and don’t count on any “victory” to describe any “outcomes”, as those terms no longer apply, kinda like some of the terms in the Constitution.)
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:34 pm#6 j.c. – it was PLANNED chaos – so they could steal…
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:37 pm#13 hardy – saddam WAS contained… yes, the greed – see above
Yea! The other stupid response! Yea!.
Hitler was marching across the world destroying everything in his path. Saddam was sitting in a dirt hole. World War II was just that, a World War. Iraq is a police action. 138,000 troops does not compare to a World War II troop levels. We built bases in Germany to help the Germans. We have since left, due to the fact that they can stand on their own. We have bases in Iraq, so we can launch more wars and contorl oil.
There is absolutely no comparison between Iraq in 2003 and Germany in 1937. None.
The only World War II comparison is Germany buring the Reichstagg and Bush blowing up the WTC and Pentagon.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:38 pmHey A-head have you been following this war thingy , I don’t think they found any WMDs let alone tactical warheads you moron .
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:38 pm#12, ANvilhead,
LOL, thats funny.
“Have it your way” “Don’t mind that Hot n’ Juicy dead body”
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:40 pmTruth you thought that was funny , did you think 9-11 was too .
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:45 pmNew term for war, random ass kicking until its no longer fun for us.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:46 pmEVERYONE (Yes, especially Anvil-balogna):
Anytime posts are all caps you can bet it’s a pea-brained, peanut-sized dick who finally grew some “balls” when him found him a combuper to post hims little angry man posts.
Or, someone who drooled on the Caps Lock key, and, well…
Or maybe it’s a NSA spy computer AUTOMATICALLY POSTING the most banal, inflamatory, empty rhetoric, AUTOMATICALLy. Like a simple little robot.
“Gort, Klatu, Berata, Niktu!”
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:47 pm#34,
I thought it was funny because I saw how the ANvilhead was trying to get yer goat, making completely assinine statements, instead I saw the humor. I didn’t let him get my goat. Better to laugh at him, than let him know he got someone upset.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:49 pmTruth is a typical chickenhawk , just a little sicker .

Like when they “kick” back but not by the rules we claim to follow?
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:53 pm“Depends on how many new Osama’s the CIA fund to keep the situation destabilised to require the bases in the first case.” Clif a little fact checking goes a LONG way. The CIA never EVER funded or aided Osama Bin Laden. Maybe we can swing by Karl Roves house and ask Osama?
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:53 pm#38,
You don’t even know me, where have you been lone voice of reason?
In reality, I am against war, so don’t know where your accusations come from. Just because I don’t trash Anvilhead, does not make me an “Anvilhead lover”. Calm down its cool man.
Hell, the likes of Anvilboy aren’t even defending the idea of victory anymore, they admit they just like the “dirty Arabs” getting killed, and all the aggression and flexing of muscle. Seems Anvilhead admitted defeat in a subtle way.
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:56 pm#39 Ever hear about a CIA funded operative named Tim Osman?
Or the CIA funding of the people who became the Taliban while they were fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan like they are fighting us now. The same cabal of fooles who funded Saddam while he attacked Iran for us but before he attacvked Kuwait?
May 22nd, 2006 at 6:57 pmBoy the Bush defender trolls are going ballistic today on TP threads > never seen so much fighting on here before! I have had to knock them off me all day! Spudge just blow them off > not worth the aggravation!

My comment was not an attack but a comment about your comment that the fun might be lost when they use what they have available and return the “fun”
May 22nd, 2006 at 7:01 pmWe already have won the war. Now we are winning the peace. While defeatist progolodytes dither, the Iraqi people are taking increasing responsibility for their own governance and defense – exactly the sort of VICTORY we achieved, during World War II and its aftermath, in both Germany and Japan. Korea, while not as definite a victory, was and remains a victory nonetheless.
It is clear, that neither TP nor Atrios knows a thing about victory. They are too busy sounding the call for retreat.
May 22nd, 2006 at 7:13 pmPost 44 BSR > give it up please! Your defense of the Bush Regime just comes across as desperate and pathetic! Ask Karl Rove to give you a vacation > you need it guy > lol.
May 22nd, 2006 at 7:20 pm#41 The official story now is Reagan funded the mujihaden. Sometime between then and 9/11 the victors in the Afghan war magically transformed from the “good guys” we funded, armed, and trained into the “bad guys” who hate our freedom now. Osama was somehow kept away from all the weapons and training we delivered in the 1980s, and the terrorist tactics he employed against us are in no way related to the nearly identical terrorist tactics we taught them to use against the Soviets.
If you want to annoy a neocon, question this pillar of their fundamental beliefs.

Dick(anvil)head, since you love the superbases so much, why aren’t you on one of them in the army?
May 22nd, 2006 at 7:55 pmHo Chi Minh,
A$$head will just give you the I am too old arguement, totally disregarding the fact that the military raised the age limit. So, Sh!theads only excuse after that is that he is too dumb, but the military has openned up recruiting for mentally handicapped people also.
I smell chickenhawk. Bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk. chickenhawk.
May 22nd, 2006 at 8:03 pmMission Accomplished!(short term anyway). Should Saudi Arabia ask us to leave or reduce our presence in their country (again)in order to preserve their kingdom, we just move our main bases next door as planned, and a couple doors down too, maybe.
We just need a puppet govt. in Iraq,a police state, endless civil war and random violence to keep them somewhat occupied. These greedy neocon psychos are masters at divide a conquer and to hell with the promised infrastructure, schools and hospitals; That was never going to happen anyway.
May 22nd, 2006 at 8:08 pm“It is consolidating to several ’superbases‘
Superbases? They have bases? No, they went in to stop Sadaam from nuking Amerika!
“in hopes that its continued presence”
The continued ‘absence’ of US soldiers is barely noteworthy in the press. And why this slur on Half-strength Uranium, which is Amerika’s PERMANENT PRESENCE in the region?
“will prevent Iraq from succumbing to full-flown civil war”

and turning into a failed state.â€

May 22nd, 2006 at 8:28 pmRE 44 by BlueStateREd……AS a Vietnam Veteran, I am wondering why in your thumbnail history of great american “victories”, you fail to include the great liberation of the Vietnamese people that was accomplished by our glorious imperial troops (I was a medical corpsman with the third marine division at Khe Sanh and am disabled….totally opposed to this illegal and insane expedition in Iraq.)
May 22nd, 2006 at 8:28 pmSpudge, I agree. I smell chickenhawk shit. What gets me is that these cowards don’t have the balls to put their bodies where their mouths are. Me, I’ve been there, drafted during Vietnam, so I know what it’s like.
May 22nd, 2006 at 8:30 pmBSR,
The Great Decider and his pet poodle Tony Blair are getting ready to start pulling troops out! Oh my GOD! They are cutting and running. They are telling the terrorists that we are leaving! We must not cut and run. We must occupy the nation forever or all of the deaths will have been in vain. We should still be fighting the South too! By Lincoln stopping the war and cutting and running he dishonored all of the dead. So to arms. Let’s start up Korea, WW2, WW1, Vietnam, Panama, Grenada…By ending the fighting we dishonor the dead.
Here’s to endless war.

May 22nd, 2006 at 8:47 pmYea! Endless war with no real reason for fighting! Let’s just keep going! To heck with peace and prosperity! We need better bombs! Go Team America!
May 22nd, 2006 at 8:48 pmOK Truth I gotcha I just don’t think war is funny .
May 22nd, 2006 at 9:12 pmCons are not only chicken-hawks and cowards, but they even plan to loose and run through money faster than it can be printed doing it. Who are the people that make out well on this? Some of who should be on the list are any companies that operated in Iraq, private militias for hire (i.e. Blackwater). KBR (another private firm replacing military), the Military gets 4 monster bases and Vatican East, US drillers and oil companies (just like Afghanistan), banks lending the money (federal reserve banks get a cut)… who else?
May 22nd, 2006 at 10:17 pmNo way, it can’t be.
Bubble boy was in my city today bragging about what a wonderful job he has done in destroying Iraq.
Come on guys, he installed a govt that promises to end the violence. We have to believe the Bubble boy don’t we? He would never lie to us Chicagoans now would he? Yeah yeah, I know, I’m being downright silly.
What the hell is his problem anyway? Illinois doesn’t support Bush, never has and never will. He needs to quit wasting our tax dollars on a lost cause.
Saw a great bumper sticker today….
With Clinton we had Bob Hope and Johnny Cash
May 22nd, 2006 at 10:42 pmNow we have Bush, no hope and no cash.

May 22nd, 2006 at 10:59 pmThe American people have been had tricked fooled by the Bush Administration while Americans let our children die for lies, greed and oil. If we continue to allow this President to corrupt our country we will pay the price. Justice Thomas asked that we pray for Bush I say how can we pray to God for a man who worships Satan. The axis of evil is running the White House.

Sample:
Joe Galloway: ” the question is what sort of an army are your bosses going to leave behind as their legacy in 2009? one that is trained, ready and well equipped to fight the hundred-year war with islam that seems to have begun with a vengeance on your watch? or will they leave town and head into a golden retirement as that army collapses for lack of manpower, lack of money to repair and replace all the equipment chewed up by iraq and afghanistan, lack of money to apply to fixing those problems because billions were squandered on weapons systems that are a ridiculous legacy of a Cold War era long gone (viz. the f/22, the osprey, the navy’s gold plated destroyers and aircraft carriers and, yes, nuclear submarines whose seeming future purpose is to replace rubber zodiac boats as the favorite landing craft of Spec Ops teams, at a cost of billions) meanwhile the pentagon, at the direction of your boss, marches rapidly ahead with deployment of an anti-missile system whose rockets have yet to actually get out of the launch tubes. at a cost of yet more multiple billions.”

May 23rd, 2006 at 3:33 amVictory in Iraq is achieved when the Iraqi government is able to stand on its own. That is happening, I don’t understand what you mean when you say “not for ‘victory’ any longer”.
May 23rd, 2006 at 6:23 amWhere is the “liberal media”, you know ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN reporting this?…Oh wait, that is because there is none….they wouldn’t want the enemy and certainly not the American people to see that the strategy is no longer “victory” as pResident Retart touts everytime he jumps on top on the camera everyday to give his canned, repeat the same thing I say everyday and hope the brainwashing works speeches.
May 23rd, 2006 at 6:28 amBush did not invade Iraq to help its people > he did it for the OIL, so that is why the whole deal is collapsing in failure! War for nefarious reasons always fails in the end!
May 23rd, 2006 at 9:02 amThe Bush and Rumsfeld new war plan for “victory” in Iraq is to have the services to “hunker down”, do nothing and see what happens.
It is the hope of Bush Decider that in this manner the amurkan casualties will decrease and with the withdrawal of all amurkan news people from Iraq, the bad press will stop and things will improve between now and the November elections.
Smooth move Georgie Boy, the >Prince of Peace.
May 23rd, 2006 at 10:15 amEvery time anyone questions the war and all its failings, Bush and his cronies drag out that sorry-ass phrase: “there’s a war on terror” I can’t wait till we win the war on terror so there’s no more terrorists. Just like that war on drugs, nobody does drugs. I would love to slap the crap out of the next politician who uses this dumb ass phrase to justify their immoral and illegal activities.

To BS Red,
May 24th, 2006 at 6:49 amThe comparison between Iraq and Germany/Japan is inapt. Both Germany and Japan had experience with parliamentary democratic governments before they went fascist prior to WWII. They also had a high literacy rate–a fairly well-educated populace. Iraq didn’t have any of these factors before the Bush invasion.
