ABC News reports:
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert, is under investigation by the FBI, which is seeking to determine his role in an ongoing public corruption probe into members of Congress, ABC News has learned from high level official sources.
Federal officials say the information implicating Hastert was developed from convicted lobbyists who are now cooperating with the government.
Part of the investigation involves a letter Hastert wrote three years ago, urging the Secretary of the Interior to block a casino on an Indian reservation that would have competed with other tribes.
ABC indicates that the investigation of Hastert is an extension of the ongoing Abramoff probe. Some details on Hastert’s ties to the criminal lobbyist:
CONTRIBUTIONS — HASTERT RECEIVED $100,000 FROM ABRAMOFF AND HIS CLIENTS: “Hastert ultimately collected more than $100,000 in donations from Abramoff’s firm and tribal clients between 2001 and 2004.” In Jan. 2006, Hastert pledged to give approximately $70,000 of the donations to charity. [AP, 11/17/05; CNN, 1/3/06]
COUSHATTA CAMPAIGN — DELAY ORGANIZED HASTERT, BLUNT, AND CANTOR TO BACK ABRAMOFF EFFORT: One of Abramoff’s tribal clients, the Coushattas, “opposed a plan by the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians to open a casino at a non-reservation site, expected at the time to be outside Shreveport, La., not far from a casino owned by the Coushattas.” Abramoff lobbied DeLay’s office to organize a June 10, 2003 letter to Interior Secretary Gale A. Norton endorsing a view of gambling law benefiting the Coushattas. The letter was eventually co-signed by DeLay, House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-IL), Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Deputy Whip Eric I. Cantor (R-VA), a “group of people, who do not normally weigh in on Indian issues.” [Washington Post, 9/28/04]
COUSHATTA CAMPAIGN — HASTERT HELD FUNDRAISER AT ABRAMOFF RESTAURANT, SUPPORTED COUSHATTA LETTER: “House Speaker Dennis Hastert, an Illinois Republican, held a fundraiser at Abramoff’s Signatures restaurant in Washington on June 3, 2003, that collected at least $21,500 for his Keep Our Majority political action committee from the lobbyist’s firm and tribal clients. Seven days later, Hastert wrote Norton urging her to reject the Jena tribe of Choctaw Indians’ request for a new casino.” [AP, 11/17/05]
RAID HIS OFFICE!!!
May 24th, 2006 at 6:42 pmNail his ass to the floorboards. The GOP corruption level makes the Grant administration look downright honest.
May 24th, 2006 at 6:42 pmExplains why he was so pissed about Jefferson’s office being searched. Wonder what’s in his.
May 24th, 2006 at 6:42 pmLook in his freezer!
May 24th, 2006 at 6:48 pmYee haw!! may not be a workable “Foreign Policy,” but it works for me as a “Crackdown on Corruption” policy!!
Sing Denny sing!!
May 24th, 2006 at 6:48 pmLOL jules ya bet me too it. I can see why Hastert would want to try to make congressional homes and offices sancrosant. He was expecting his to be the next on raided.
May 24th, 2006 at 6:51 pmseems to be a clear cut:
C u l t u r e
o f
C o r r u p t i o n
May 24th, 2006 at 6:52 pmI was wondering when they were going to finally do something with the info received from Jack’s clan. I figured they would wait until after the elections.
May 24th, 2006 at 6:54 pmIf three House speakers in a row are ousted for corruption, that’s a trifecta. If they’re all from the same party, that’s gotta be a complete indictment of the party in question. And that’s the bow on the ribbon around the whole ‘Culture Of Corruption’ package!
May 24th, 2006 at 7:15 pmGingrich / Livingston / Hastert…
Explains his sudden interest upholding the Constitution.
May 24th, 2006 at 7:19 pmWhen is he up for re-election?
May 24th, 2006 at 7:27 pmWhen is he up for re-election?
May 24th, 2006 at 7:27 pmWhen is he up for re-election?
May 24th, 2006 at 7:27 pmUh oh.
Hastert is a BIG guy. Can his fatty tissue encased heart handle this kind of pressure?
May 24th, 2006 at 7:32 pmUh oh.
Hastert is a BIG guy. Can his fatty tissue encased heart handle this kind of pressure?
May 24th, 2006 at 7:33 pmkookoos, Hastert is up for re-election in November If we impeach the Bubble boy and Crashcart he would become President.
I live in Illinois and I promise he will not be re-elected. His only hope is a rigged election.
Looks like the Feds are taking away that option for him.
The 3 main players are Rove, Cheney and Hastert. Bush will be alone and will step down once they are all indicted.
May 24th, 2006 at 7:35 pmI think the American People deserve a special election when the White House becomes vacant. It was good enough for the Iraqi’s, its good enough for us.
This is very interesting and IS definitely why he was so upset about the FBI rading Jeffereson’s house/office. He knows he’s next. We need the names of everybody who spoke out against the FBI raid. Then we will have a list of the people who will be raided next.
May 24th, 2006 at 7:37 pmSpudge…I like the way you think!! I kinda doubt Denny was very cool growing up, the way he wet his pants once he saw the writing on the wall, as you point out.
May 24th, 2006 at 7:46 pmwho is his opponent in november?
May 24th, 2006 at 7:51 pmLet’s start the list:
So, we got Hastert and Frist.
We got Boehner.
And we got Pelosi, who also called for Jefferson to step down. Could Pelosi be corrut? Do the Republicans have something on her and that is why she is always backing down?
May 24th, 2006 at 7:54 pmThis is just too funny , remember awhile back when this all broke the repugnantcan pundits were all saying there were dems on the list of people who recieved monies from Abramoff , so where are the indictments then . Again , do they ever tell the truth , and didn’t they run on the “we have the morals ” ticket .
May 24th, 2006 at 8:02 pmYou think Ms. Pelosi has figured out why she had BI-PARTISAN support for Rep. Jefferson.
IDIOT!!!
May 24th, 2006 at 8:13 pmJust when Dem Bill Jefferson gets nabbed for bribery and the GOP thinks it’s looking “good”, here comes a big ‘ol break in the GOP/Abramoff scandal to ruin their day. Thank God. Hastert has been suspected of close involvement in the scandal – and here’s the proof. Sweeeeet!!!

May 24th, 2006 at 8:22 pmA 9/11 cover up and the latest on the Hastert scandal. Plus, give us your thoughts on the Hastert scandal:
Right now on SSA
No big deal. I think the Republicans will easily pick up 50 House seats this year!
May 24th, 2006 at 8:27 pmWilliam Jefferwho?
May 24th, 2006 at 8:38 pmServes him right for opening his mouth about protecting Jefferson, I say throw them all out. Lets start over.
May 24th, 2006 at 8:38 pmI think Hastert has got other stuff in his closet….like Turkish bribes. No wonder the Republican Congress is so pliable. I’ll bet NSA Karl was keeping tabs on everyone in Congress.
May 24th, 2006 at 8:38 pmYou know wingnut , america is just that stupid .
May 24th, 2006 at 8:41 pmFBI Investigating Denny Hastert…
ABC News’ The Blotter:
May 24th, 2006 at 8:42 pmThe Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert, is under investigation by the FBI, which is seeking to determine……
Time for another GOP fundraiser to support the culture of corruption.
May 24th, 2006 at 8:50 pmSo Hastert complains about the FBI raiding Jeffersons office, a historical first… and why didn’t big Duke Cunningham have his office raided?
Could be the political wing of the FBI is on a rampage and didn’t like what Hastert had to say about their practices. Unitary priviledge is our noble right! Where are your daughters?
Could be Hastert was mostly worried about the precedent being set, and was more worried that his office would be next.
May 24th, 2006 at 8:57 pm[...] [...]
May 24th, 2006 at 9:18 pmDailyKos update says the Justice Dept is denying the ABC news story and Hastert is not under investigation.
May 24th, 2006 at 9:21 pmThat is it!!!!!
I have fu#king had it with the current situation of the Democratic Party. I will run for the U. S. House of Representatives seat in my own congressional district. Someone has to move the Democratic Party back to the traditional Left and it might as well be me.
Come 2012, I’m running for the 3rd congressional district seat of Alabama. I will show these gutless pussies in the DLC how a real Democrat fights, and I don’t care if the Radical Right smears me either.
They will smear me even if I weren’t a homegrown Economic Populist and a preacher of the Social Gospel. If I’m gonna be smeared, then I might as well get smeared while standing up for what I beleive in. Let the Conservative bastards call me a Communist!! I don’t give a flying fu#$! They’re gonna do it anyway!
Bring it on you Right-Wing Nazi, Robber Baron Class Brown-nosing, lying, pedofile, sociopath Corporate, Turner Diary reading, Dominionist a%^holes!!!!!!!!!!!
May 24th, 2006 at 9:25 pmBelieve me, I wish this were true, but:
May 24th, 2006 at 9:27 pm
Looking at the timing of today’s Hastert revelation, I
don’t think it can be viewed as anything other than a
retaliation by the administration for the
unprecedented (since 9/11) degree of defiance Hastert
has displayed in the last week and a half. Consider
the following:
-Hastert’s adherence to the majority of the majority
rule, requiring a majority of Republicans in the house
to support a bill before it comes to a vote, has
eliminated the chances for an immigration bill that
would be pallatble to to the WHite House. Were it not
for the obfuscatory rule, its very possible that a
compromise bill with citizenship could garner majority
support in the House between dems and moderate
republicnas.
-As Bob Novak reports, Hastert “engaged
in a high-decibel rant last week when he met with Vice
President Dick Cheney. The speaker was enraged by the
sacking of his friend and former colleague, Porter
Goss. Hastert was so vituperative that a private
session with President Bush in the living quarters of
the White House was scheduled immediately (although
Hastert aides said the meeting had been planned
previously). The speaker toned down his volume on the
hallowed ground and did more listening than talking.”
-Now, In light of the Jefferson raid, Hastert has
protested louder than any other voice about the
violation of seperation of powers (perhaps because he
knew ir suspected he was under investigation).
So let’s see…a Speaker of the House is emboldened by
May 24th, 2006 at 9:32 pmthe weakness of his President to directly confront the
White House on three different fronts. THe White
House/Justice Department, angrily responds today by
leaking the news that Hastert is under investigation
by the FBI. Of course, if the ever-slothful House
ethics committee launched an investigation, I guess
Hastert would be compelled to resign his leadership
post, and possibly the majority of the majority rule
would go with him, clearing the ground for bipartisan
passage of a compromise bill on immigration. Now
that’s pretty unlikely, but in any event I think its
clear that the administration is doing this to
politically weaken and isolate Hastert, who has
suddenly very publicly opposed the administration on
several different fronts.
There tends to be a denial of the truth just before the truth is confirmed. If a politician says, “I am innocent,” it’s a pretty good indication he’s about to get indicted. So I’m enclined to believe we haven’t heard the last of Dennis’ legal problems.
Hmmmm….With Bush and Cheney getting impeached in 2007 and Hastert indicted, how many other heads have to roll before Osama Ben Laden is made president by popular acclimation? Or would that be Sadaam Hussein? Yeah, I know they aren’t citizens, among other things, but the Dark Side isn’t looking nearly so dark these days, comparatively speaking…People are so fed up they might even vote for Madonna or Tom Cruise over these bozos…I guess the evangelicals might have a problem with a wacko Scientologist president, huh?
May 24th, 2006 at 9:41 pmIsn’t Hastert the congressman that Sibel Edmonds singled out for corruption in a magazine interview in Vanity Fair? The article is available from her website at http://www.justacitizen.org/
May 24th, 2006 at 9:52 pmDude, they are disintegrating . . . . . . Your assesment Mr. Spock?
May 24th, 2006 at 9:54 pmLOL no wonder Hastert is upset about the FBI raiding the office of Rep. William Jefferson, because Hastert is scared the FBI will raid his office and find the goods on the entire Repub leadership in the Congress!
May 24th, 2006 at 10:01 pm# 39.
It is almost like watching a bad Adam Sandler movie. The Republican meltdown couldn’t have been scripted any better.

May 24th, 2006 at 10:20 pmYou folks on the left need to relax a little. Looks like this particular left-wing religious experience might not pan out. Both the DOJ and Reuters have denied that Hastert is being investigated for anything. But you can go on talking about it if you wish. Facts never seem to get in the way of a good lib wish-fest. By the way, this is the second Brian Ross story that doesn’t look so hot. Bell and Verizon both strongly deny his phone records story and now this. Maybe like Dan Rather, Ross is going to have to find out the hard way that the lib media monopoly is over. Unfortunately for the left, facts are now available.
May 24th, 2006 at 10:23 pmYou may have jumped the gun here. Your story which I personally would love to be true does NOT jive with DOJ or ABC
http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=2001422
TP may have some ’splainin’ to do.
May 24th, 2006 at 10:27 pmDoug Book,
Amen. The war on terror has been upgraded to being called the “long war”. Republicans are now proud to boast that government money is spent on painting schools, giving out soccer balls and rebuilding power grids—-not in America, in Iraq. If these actions were being done in America the One Party Leaders of America would complain about wasteful government spending.
Even though it is 5 years since 9/11 Bin Laden is still at large. Since 9/11 the US has suffered terrorist attacks in the form of anthrax letters and the anthrax attackers haven’t been caught.
Iran is thumbing their nose at US. China and Russia are cooperating and China is building up the military. North Korea is building more bombs. Egypt has denounced the US.
The only good news is that George W. Bush now trusts the word of Muamar Ghaddaffy from Libya. The madman from the middle east, the man who blew up airlines over Scottland is now the US best buddy.
Heckuva job.

May 24th, 2006 at 10:53 pmI share your sentiment regarding Hastert, and Bush&Co as well. I also live in Illinois and I am not as positive as you about the re-election prospects of Hastert. I met the guy running against him – an Iraq veteran, a sincere man, very likable. That doesn’t alaways add up to victory in Illinois however.
I am extremely worried about voting machine rigging. The Dupage and Kane counties for certain (Hastert territory) have purchased paperless electronic voting machines. They tried some in the primaries. DuPage bought Diebold. Kane county bought one or two brands, but they have the same likelihood for tampering.
Maybe like Dan Rather, Ross is going to have to find out the hard way that the lib media monopoly is over.
Maybe Ross will figure out that his source (aka: Uncle Karl) is screwing him with bad “tips.”
May 24th, 2006 at 10:56 pm#20, Spudgeboy
May 24th, 2006 at 10:58 pmBingo!
Those were the three Rethuglicans who immediately spoke out against the FBI raid on Jefferson’s office.
We all know Boehner is unethical — he passed out money from lobbyists on the House floor!
Frist – we all know he is guilty of insider trading.
Hastert – now we learn he is on the Abramoff rolodex.
I don’t know about Pelosi — I think she is pressing Jefferson to step down, as she should, because the Dems will have a hard time with the “culture of corruption” if Dems are headlined.
No.
May 24th, 2006 at 11:09 pmWonder how the trolls are going to try to spin this one. They must be comparing notes right now and can’t come up with any responses. Enjoy the silence while it lasts.
It is funny as hell, the MSM uses the Democratic raid as “THE” story all day, all the time, yet this bozo is the latest in the string of many RETHUGlicans caught with their hand in the cookie jar and no MSM coverage. Damned liberal media. (snark)
But I do love seeing the wheels falling off the RETHUG machine, and cheeney and dumya are at the wheel barreling full throtle down the highway to hell all the while sparks are flying everywhere. When do you think it will catch something on fire?
And just think, Krash-Kart-shoot-em-up-Cheney just may have to testify in the Libby case. Hey Krash-Kart- you got some -splainin to do about those notes you scribbled on the NYT Wilson article. Will you spill the beans or wait until rover throws your evil fat butt under the bus?
May 24th, 2006 at 11:15 pmHastert wants a retraction — ABC stands by it as fact.
http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Update_ABC_News_says_Hasert_story_0524.html
May 24th, 2006 at 11:15 pmAbramoff gave up his name.
Just like watching dominos fall. Set em up, and watch em fall.
Lovely to watch, a delight to be instrumental in helping them fall.
May 24th, 2006 at 11:18 pmNo honor among thieves anymore? Abramoff spilled his guts.
I say again, lovely to watch.
May 24th, 2006 at 11:20 pmABC got it wrong.
TP should update this post.
May 24th, 2006 at 11:25 pmIt was only a matter of time. The fat pig was put in as speaker of the house by DeLay – so what made anyone think it was because he was anything but a stooge who did as ordered for money. I hope the bloated scumbag dies in jail and the last thing he hears is the voice of Bubba saying “roll over Denny I’m horny.”
May 24th, 2006 at 11:42 pmNo Lesly, you are wrong. There is an update that you are not wanting to acknowledge:
Stop being an apologist for the republican party.
Here let me show you how to be non-partisan.
If William Jefferson is guilty, he should do the frog march.
Go ahead and try it, you might find you like it.
May 24th, 2006 at 11:44 pmHastert can go to hell. He’s all for the Patriot Act and Patriot Act II as well as spying, but doesn’t want his office checked. He is one of the biggest hypocrites and K street money sucking parasite in DC. May he and his Patriot Act brethren (Libs and Cons) be searched in your houses, offices and persons to the maximum extent possible.
Worst part of all of this: the FBI got all of the legal warrants while these jokers can vote to disappear people!
May 25th, 2006 at 12:11 amHastert can go to hell.
Worst part of all of this: the FBI got all of the legal warrants while these jokers in Congress can vote to disappear people!
May 25th, 2006 at 12:12 amHaster is not under investigation. ABC news is the only one that is running this story and has an “unnamed” source as it’s evidence. Maybe ABC is going to have to pull a Dan Rather in order to get the hint.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:43 amTracy taking a page from the rover book? Attack the messenger. pish.
Hasert is under investigation, just like dumbya is being eyed by the hage for war crimes. You just can’t accept it when your fools you worship are under attack.
You are either a paid hack or a stupid stupid fool for standing (sick) up for the Greedy Old Party.
I would like to think you have no morals and are paid and not simply stupid. But the reality is, you probably are just stupid.
May 25th, 2006 at 1:46 amOh and tracy…. it is NOT Haster
May 25th, 2006 at 1:47 amThat is why they call it an exclusive dipsh!t. I know you are used to getting the same story pumped to you from mulitple “news sources,” but that isn’t how real journalism works. It is known as a scoop.
Good luck with your stupidity problem.
May 25th, 2006 at 2:48 amDoes this mean we won’t see a President Hastert ?
May 25th, 2006 at 3:44 amHaster is not under investigation. ABC news is the only one that is running this story and has an “unnamed†source as it’s evidence. Maybe ABC is going to have to pull a Dan Rather in order to get the hint.
Comment by Tracy — May 25, 2006 @ 12:43 am
Tracy you for once are correct, there is no congressman named Haster under investigation by the FBI because there is no congressman named Haster….As for Dennis Hastert of Illinois who currently is the repug Speaker of the House…that is a different story….He is.
May 25th, 2006 at 4:02 amSince Hastert himself is under investigation for corruption, then no wonder he is up in arms about the FBI searching House membership offices! The fact that those in DC want special priviledges that nobody else in America gets undermines any claims they desire for immunity from search and seizure! Probably the entire House and Senate should get a shake-down at this stage, because most of them seem to be hiding evidence in their offices! If the entire Congress was investigated, then probably 100% of the Republicans would go to prison, and 50% of the Democrats as well! Sen. Lieberman and Sen. Feinstein would be goners for sure!
May 25th, 2006 at 6:42 amToo bad the DCCC did not run Duckworth against Bubba Hastert instead of torching Christine Cegelis.
May 25th, 2006 at 7:05 amAbramoff’s fingering Hastert, too, now. I always wondered who the GOP’s Joe Valachi would be.
Btw, Bob Herbert writes about “The Disposable American” in the workplace. A must-read for anyone who’d been cast aside by their boss like last week’s garbage.
May 25th, 2006 at 7:12 amNo wonder he’s so miffed about the feds raiding Jefferson’s office…
…he’s got sh*t to hide…
…hmmm…
May 25th, 2006 at 7:56 amThere is an update that you are not wanting to acknowledge:
I guess I stand corrected, Spudge_Boy. Where you born with the gift to fail at reading minds? You got my intention and party affiliation wrong. Some of us just put accuracy ahead of partisanship.
May 25th, 2006 at 8:12 amGood post #65 Jay, I agree……Clean up the house, senate and white whore house and it would be a good start…Time to start over with clean representatives, then boot them out as they become corrupt. It always seems to happen in government. New ones get in office and within a year or so they get greedy and dirty…….Blessings
May 25th, 2006 at 8:28 am34
Bring it on you Right-Wing Nazi, Robber Baron Class Brown-nosing, lying, pedofile, sociopath Corporate, Turner Diary reading, Dominionist a%^holes!!!!!!!!!!!
Well as long as you show that you can be a true representative of the people and bridge some of that gap that exists between the right and left you may pull it off.
muwahahahahahahahaah
May 25th, 2006 at 8:49 amDenny,
May 25th, 2006 at 9:09 amWhile you’re spending some time at Club Gitmo,
be sure to say Hi to KKKarl & Dick.
We miss you guys. We hardly ever get to laugh at
the news anymore.
How’s Jack? Oh, you’re not talking to him?
Is Tom still cleaning toilets?
I heard Bill is doing surgery on Dick’s heart.
I didn’t know he had one, but I think Bill can
do surgery via TV cameras now; what a guy!
Is Scooter still smuggling in cigars? I know that
President Feingold wants to pardon all of you to
show Democratic compassion, but the polls show
98% of Americans oppose that. Oh, that’s right
you guys never paid any attention to the polls.
Still warm down there? Any hurricanes lately?
I know, you still think global warming was a hoax,
but when W puts on his cheerleading skirt and
does those moves, you guys sure sweat a lot.
Say Hi to ‘The Boner’, and be sure to write.
I Believe that 7 Democrat members of the Senate should resign from the Congress with Rep. William Jefferson in the House! Senators Lieberman, Levin, and Feinstein are Zionist agents working for Israel, so they should be forced out of the Senate and deported to Israel! Senators Rockefeller and Mikulski are so spineless that they are an embarrassment to the party! Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska is in bed with the Bush Regime and is therefore no longer a Democrat! Senator Hillary Clinton acts more like a Republican now by hanging out with Rupert Murdoch the owner of FOX News, and backing the Iraq fiasco, that it would be best for her to retire from politics! Rep. William Jefferson seems to be just a petty crook, so he must resign!
May 25th, 2006 at 9:22 amI’m surprised there is a single source left considering the vigor with which the gestapo is chasing down anyone who says anything to the press.
May 25th, 2006 at 9:41 amWhat would you expect from a high school wrestling coach? Whoever voted for him are fools without a doubt. Since when do gym teachers have any knowledge of the constitution. I sure remember my coaches and they were pretty much dolts. I am in a red state and all so most coaches doubled as chemistry teachers. Yeah, I got most of my intelligence from books and family and friends. Public schools in TN are just church-lite learning centers.
May 25th, 2006 at 9:57 am#59
That’s even more hilarious for someone who gets their news from CBS OR ABC.
May 25th, 2006 at 10:41 am#64
Do you have any evidence?
May 25th, 2006 at 10:42 am#60
After all that hot air you don’t even question the messenger who is basically full of BS. The DOJ has said that Hastert is NOT under investigation. You might have a leg to stand on if the DOJ said “no comment”.
May 25th, 2006 at 10:49 am#62
Same thing happened to rather dumbass!
May 25th, 2006 at 10:53 am#62
“I know you are used to getting the same story pumped to you from mulitple “news sources,†but that isn’t how real journalism works.”
I am not the moron who automatically believes what ONE new agency says…you are. Dan Rather and CBS tried that crap and got nailed to the wall for it. I know you are frothing at the mouth hoping that CBS is correct, but as for you stating that I get my news from multiple sources…I take that as a compliment. Anyone who takes what ONE news source as gospel is only interested in hoping the story is true. Good luck with YOUR stupidity problem.
BTW does it mean anything to you that the DOJ says that ABC is full of it?
May 25th, 2006 at 11:01 amAfter the raid on Jefferson, I guess half of Washington, went home and cleaned out their freezers. Here’s the million dollar question: Is there anyone in the House or Senate, who is for the American people, and not owned by someone else?
May 25th, 2006 at 11:06 am#74
Any thought about Hamas and Abbas about to go into civil war for dictatorial control over the Palestinians?
May 25th, 2006 at 11:13 amI’m just wondering when Hastert will refuse to cooperate in any manner by claiming that “national security” is at stake.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:17 am#82
One person I can say with quite a bit of accuracy who is not owned by anyone else is Rep. Rick Boucher of Virginia.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:21 am#82 – More…
He seems to be tireless in working to bring jobs and other economic opportunities and other benefits to residents in the depressed areas of Southwest Virginia. I dare anyone in our area to claim and then prove that he is owned by anyone else.
May 25th, 2006 at 11:26 amumm…is anyone here at all concerned that this story is false? The justice department has confirmed several times that they are not in any way invistigating hastert. And yet ABC continues to run the story. This brings back memories of dan rather’s forged national guard story. By the way, Hastert is suing ABC news for libel and defamation in the strongest possible terms. whatever credibility ABC news had left, is now slowly eroding away. They’d better retract this story before more people catch onto what is taking place here.
May 25th, 2006 at 12:44 pm#87 I am as concerned that the story is false as I was when the facts on DUMBYA BEING AWOL were ignored, and the focus shifted from true facts of him being AWOL to attacking the documents.
Are you as concerned that you were lied to about the Iraq war and WMD, spying, concentration camps, torture prisons as with this story?
Do you enjoy being lied to by the shrub, but actually question others? Your programming is complete go forth and spread your verson of the truthiness.
May 25th, 2006 at 2:14 pmI keep seeing the sentence, “The Justice Department is not investigating Hastert.” That is correct. It is the FBI that is doing the investigating. These are two different agencies. Just saying…
May 25th, 2006 at 4:07 pmWC, thanks, I was losing all hope that there’s wasn’t an honest soul in Congress. I have two republican senators, but they seem to vote the party line. Maybe they aren’t corrupt, but they need to go back to the people and listen, really listen.
May 25th, 2006 at 5:55 pm[...] ABC’s Brian Ross stands by his story that House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) is under FBI investigation. “I think our story is accurate. We’ve gone back to our sources, and they believe what we reported was accurate as they knew it.” George Stephanopoulos, ABC’s chief Washington correspondent, called the implications “potentially seismic.” [...]
May 26th, 2006 at 9:32 amHastert’s very qualified opponent is Navy vet John Laesch. If you want Hastert out, go give him a buck. Laesch had a press conference outside Hastert’s office today. He apparently thinks transparency is a good thing.
May 26th, 2006 at 5:37 pmJUST ONE MORE REASON WHY STRONGER LEGISLATION TO STOP LOBBYISTS FROM BUYING A CONGRESSMAN DID NOT PASS. They passed only a lukewarm bill which did not nearly go far enough to stop corruption in Congress. WILL AN HONEST POLITICIAN PLEASE STEP FORWARD!?!
May 26th, 2006 at 6:02 pmI believe John Laesch, Democratic candidate for the 14th Congressional District, running AGAINSTT Dennis Hastert is THE CANDIDATE WHO CAN AND WILL CHANGE the way things are done in Congress and by the Administration.
He is the best candidate around and he pressed this issue about Hastert being a part of the investigation into public officials connected with and part of, the whole Abramoff fiasco. As John said, “whether or not there is an FBI investigation including Hastert, there SHOULD BE!” There is the fact of “the letter,” there is the fact of taking lots of money from Abramoff, there is the fact of the fund-raiser at Abramoff’s restaurant – and Eventually payiby Hastert for said fund-raiser (his office claimed they misplaced the bill and that’s why it wasn’t paid for by Hastert originally). Guess he was hoping Abramoff would pay the bill before he was investigated…..
