I understand its tough to mix up all the corporate cronies, but I do believe you mean Enron’s Ken Lay, not Exxon’s.

Hooray!!! I was unaware that there was still any justice left in this country!

Now is the time for the DNC, MoveOn, etc.. to show the link between the White House and these criminals. Energy Task Force anyone?

  9. Simon says:

Will Dubya really let his long time friend and king fund raiser go to prison? Is there a pardon in Ken’s future?

  10. Badmoodman says:

    Off topic:
President Bush appointed a longtime scholar at the American Enterprise Institute yesterday to be his top domestic policy adviser, a post that has been vacant since February, when Claude A. Allen stepped down after being charged with stealing more than $5,000 in a phony refund scheme.

Karl Zinsmeister, who has worked the past 12 years as editor in chief of the American Enterprise magazine, is slated to assume his White House post June 12.

    Ahhh, The Zinsmeister-meister

  11. Zookeeper says:

  15. kriss says:

Expect to see Mrs. Lay on TV(FOX?) with a used stiff Kleenex crying crocodile tears, and saying,”they, the jury, don’t understand. My husband is a good man and what he did at Enron, was for the good of the people”.

  16. AvengingAngel says:

It will be interesting to see what President Bush has to say today, given his past denials regarding his long friendship with Lay. After all, when the Enron scandal first exploded, President Bush on January 10, 2002 offered one of the biggest whoppers of his presidency:

“I got to know Ken Lay when he was the head of the-what they call the Governor’s Business Council in Texas. He was a supporter of Ann Richards in my run in 1994. And she had named him the head of the Governor’s Business Council. And I decided to leave him in place, just for the sake of continuity. And that’s when I first got to know Ken.”

Sadly, a mountain of correspondence between the Bush and Lay suggests otherwise.

    For the details, see:
    “Bush Lies About Ken Lay.”

If Justice is still alive in our country, then we’ll have to build more prisons just to house ALL these Republican criminals, Libby, Delay, Abramoff, Fastow Lay, Skilling, Cunningham, Bush, Cheney, Rove, Hastert, etc, etc, etc, the list is long indeed. And Lets not forget ALL those REPUBLICAN PEDOPHILIA criminals! – http://www.armchairsubversive.com/

It’s official: Republican GOP – A party built on corporate crime and religious hypocrisy.

my connection is balky as well, I’m guessing it is the flood of jubilant TP visitors as Justice in America begins to gain some traction……………

  23. dougie Jay says:

it took the bush admin. justice dept. to bring these guys down. clinton/gore admin justice dept. could have done it – oh thats right….too stupid

  24. katy says:

o man… just read this: Sentencing takes place September 11, a date that has figured prominently in Bush’s horrific presidency.

  25. Curlew says:

Since Bush has claimed that he “hardly knows” his dear friend “Kenny Boy” who just happened to be one of Bush’s more prolific campaign contributors in 2000, I cant help but wonder if Dubby Boy will visit Kenny Boy very often when the latter is doing 30 years in Leavenworth? Dubby Boy should probably find out what the inside of a prison cell is like. I’m tempted to mail a tube of KY jelly to both Kenny Boy and Jeffy as a going to their new home for 30 years present. However on second thought I think I’ll send them both sandpaper instead.

  26. unbelievable says:

Only because juries are still made up of average Americans and not Corporate American hand puppets. As soon as they can find a way to buy that system – we’re over as a ‘free’ nation.

But, this is most excellent news!

  27. Eric says:

    Let’s see the sentencing.
Ideal: No parole. Forfeiture of all earthly possessions.
More Likely: Commuted Sentence. Loss of some obscure license. Keeps his house to sell later on. Maybe even a presidential pardon.

  28. tipper says:

at least Clinton and Gore were able to get Elian Ganzalas back to Cuba. We are safer because of them. God bless em

  29. JIMBO says:

I just hope Kenny Boy and Jeffy watched HBO’s OZ before they got their asses sent off to prison. After all, they need to learn about prison romances in advance.

  30. Amy says:

#23, I could be wrong but didn’t the Enron bankruptcy happen in late 2001 when Georgie-boy was president? Or is this another event like 9/11 where repukes have a selective memory? Repukes seem to forget that the worst terrorist attack in our country’s history happened on W’s watch as well…

  31. dougie Jay says:

#31, all their crimes did not take place the night before they were caught. they transpired all through-out the nineties, right under ur boyz and janet reno’s nose. idiot

  32. katy says:

YAY! something else to blame CLINTON for!!!
a truly amazing piece of trolling there…

  33. Curlew says:

#33. I wonder if we could level the playing field a bit by getting an intern to give Bush a blowjob (god what a horrible ordeal that must be!!). Then we can stop blaming Bill for everything Bush has done and get down to pointing the finger at the Chimp where it belongs?? Short of a blow job for Dubby, I cant fathom how we can get the blame for everything shifted away from Clinton. Then again, I’m not a Repugnican, so I dont understand how that lower life form “thinks.”

  34. tipper says:

#34 it must suck to be you

  35. Curlew says:

#35 Its not so bad. You should try it some time.

  36. agua fiero says:

    Hey Folks
Michael Moore has a link (”more love letters”)
    to Smoking Gun website.
They are posting just released correspondence between Dubious and Kenny Boy…
    Gotta see these!!!!!

  37. Jules says:

Can we at least get some intelligent trolls in here to argue. Now let me break this down for you. Read it really slow so you will understand because I know what low IQ’s you 29%ers have.

First, to get this straight, the Bush administration did not do ANYTHING. Are you so stupid that you believe every person at every level in the justice department is appointed by the sitting president? Yeah, you trolls probably are.

There is no possible way the justice department can audit every single company that files SEC required reports (10-k’s 10-Q’s etc.). Basically, if the SEC notices wrongdoing then they are the ones to investigate and prosecute. The kind of fraud that went on here should have, and probably was, caught by the accountants, but they did not do anything. It took a wistle blower and some good reporting by financial publications before the market noticed there was anything wrong at Enron. Once the house of cards caved in and the dust settled the investigation into wrong doing began.

If Bush could have stopped this he would have. However, it had been reported so widely that there was nothing he could do to bail out his old pals.

  38. cletus says:

Everyone on here thinks corporate crime is a Rupublican thing, wait til the Sallie Mae story hits the fan with all those Clinton cronies.

  39. Stupid Republicans says:

Lay is not going to bode well in prison. Bubba has something special just for him and it is going to require a lot of KY Jelly.

    I’ll say it again.

    Build more prisons!

    Invest in KY Jelly!

Did you see the video of Lay being led away in handcuffs? Priceless!

  40. Parrotlover77 says:

What sort of time is he looking at? Has the sentence or potential sentence been discussed? Personally, I want to see him rot in jail for ruining so many people’s lives just because he wanted more money. Oh, and his fortune (or whatever is left of it) donated to some charitable cause.

  41. WHERE NOW says:

ENRON SCANDAL EXPOSED IN 2001. ALL ,REPEAT ALL CRIMES COMMITTED AT ENRON BETWEEN 1996 AND 2001. CAN WE SAY THANK YOU BILL CLINTON AND JANET RENO? I KNOW I THANK EM EVERYDAY. I MADE A CRUSHING ON ENRON, ADELPHIA AND WORLD COM. THEM AND A FEW OF THE DOT COM STOCKS. THANKFULLY I BAILED ON ALL WHEN BUSH GOT ELECTED. DAMN YOU GEORGE BUSH, BECAUSE OF YOUR JUSTICE DEPT I’M STUCK LIVING OFF OF MY MILLIONS I MADE DURING THE LAWLESS 90′S

  42. Larry Ewing says:

I’ve read some of the above comments. You are exceedingly naive. The latest about Lay and Skilling are that they have had their sentencings postponed until Oct. 26th. They were certainly not led off to prison, like you or I would be. Also, I now see that Lay will likely serve not the 45 years reported in the press, but 3 years, or 6 months per count. Something about not directly stealing money. As for serving his time in Leavenworth, well, I don’t know which country club will be his short-lived home, but I will bet you anything that it will not be Leavenworth.

All men are created equal, but some men are more equal than others.

    Larry E.
