I respect those box office figures, and it’s also important to address what’s got the most downloads/streams on the web, and last I checked, the biggest movie on the web in that regard was Loose Change 2nd Edition.
If you love your kids and grandkids, you’d better go see this movie and learn as much as you can about global warming. If America doesn’t get off of their duffs and take the lead in this, there will be no future generations.
I had a browse of the website for the movie. On a blog, someone accused Gore of being anti-American. An all purpose smear for anyone espousing any inconvenient truth.
Given that Gore is American (and that the US consumes about 25% of the world’s energy whilst having 2% of its population) a focus on American practices seems a rather logical starting point.
While I regret that it’s official now that Gore will not run for the Democratic nomination in 2008, I have to say that I really respect him for it because it should put to rest the cynical speculation about this film being a political ploy for the presidency (or at least I hope it’ll silence a lot of it). They say there’s no such thing as bad publicity, but in this case I think those rumors were all too damaging, because they undermined the credibility of the film and of Gore’s sincerity. Hopefully now more people will really open their eyes and see that policies like drilling ANWR, GM’s giving customers incentives to buy through promises of cheap gasoline, and the trend of ever-escalating consumption, all causes championed by the current administration, are definitely the wrong way to go.
So, the Right-Wing corporate scumbags believe that by restricting the distribution of Al Gore’s movie to the fewest theaters possible they can limit the damage that “An Inconvienient Truth” will inflict on the culture of affluent materialism and consumption that they have been working to bring about for the last 50 years.
Quite a clever stratagy on the part of the Reich-wing Plutocrats of corporate America.
There is just on glitch in there plan though: The movie is gonna come out on VHS and DVD eventually!
The look on the Right-Wing shrills faces, Priceless!
I’ve just seen the film with my family. This is not about Gore, he is just the messenger. This film focuses on climate science. The portions of the film that focus on Gore’s personal life give context to his motives and rationale to pursue this mission. If given a choice between Al and Hillary, I would choose Al. However, he will do us all more good in his current occupation than being the next punching bag for the Rethuglicans. For those who respect science, this film is scarier than anything Jason or Freddy can bring. The last time I flew from London to NYC, I flew over Greenland. I took pictures. It scared the sh*t out me. This is real folks. What I wish is that theaters would take a collection after the film to send DVD’s of this to every congressman, congressional aide, lobbiest, corporate CEO, etc. We can all get other jobs, we can’t get another planet. Converting to renewable energy makes more jobs and keeps more money in the USA anyway. In 2001, each one of us were seven times more likely to be killed by a drunk driver than a terrorist. Climate change will effect EVERYONE. Our reward for willful ignorance and greed will be the end of life as we know it on this planet. Not a very “pro-life” position, is it? We don’t have time for debate and denial. See the film, make some changes in the way you live and make our leadership pay attention to a real terror: Global Warming.
#13: Between Hillary Clinton and Al Gore? No contest! Seriously, all this talk about a presidential bid in 2008 by Hillary just freaks me out.
#17: Technically, what you are saying is true. But most people, I would think, are going to perceive “I have no plans plans to be a candidate for president again” as, at least for the near future, i.e. 2008, count me out. Gore had enough trouble with the “liar” slurs in 2000, I don’t think he’d give the Republicans such an easy shot this soon.
Oh yeah, MM and Hot Air are crowing. Get a clue guys, the middle is starting to get it.
June 4th, 2006 at 5:36 pmPeople are eager to see ths film, they are tired of the lies of the Bush administration.
June 4th, 2006 at 6:04 pmIs there any plan to increase distribution? I want to see it.

THIS IS A MORAL ISSUE.
June 4th, 2006 at 9:19 pmI saw it last night in Pasadena with our Democratic candidate for Congress, Russ Warner. It was great!!!!!

I might not be able to vote yet, but I sure as hell can think on my own.

June 5th, 2006 at 8:16 amWhat’s surprising is that it took so long in the US for the scientific side of the “debate” to get its moment in the spotlight.
June 5th, 2006 at 11:00 amit’s official now that Gore will not run for the Democratic nomination in 2008
Official? Gore didn’t say that he will not run.
He said that he does not plan to run and that he does not except to ever be a candidate again.
Well, that’s not the same as “I will not run”.
