Today on Fox News Sunday, pundit Bill Kristol said a senior administration official told him the timeline to resolve the problem of Iran’s nuclear program is 12 months. By that time “will have diplomatic success, or we’ll have success through pressure and sanctions, or we’ll be forced to use military action…” (Kristol added that the other alternative was to “acquiesce to Iran getting nuclear weapons” but, earlier in the broadcast, said President Bush had taken that option off the table.)
Transcript:
WALLACE: You know, let’s talk about this, because this all goes against a time frame of how long we’ve got before Iran gets a nuclear weapon or passes the threshold in its nuclear technology. Bill, you and I sat down with a senior Israeli official a couple of weeks ago when they were in town. They seem to think that there’s kind of a point of no return by the end of this year, correct?
KRISTOL: Or at least 12 months from now, they’re using. And senior American officials do, I think, now believe that they cannot kick this to the next administration. I think that’s the biggest development in the last few months, which I think does justify this diplomatic move if it accelerates the time table.
President Bush needs to deal with this threat on his watch. Either we will have diplomatic success, or we’ll have success through pressure and sanctions, or we’ll be forced to use military action, or we will acquiesce to Iran getting nuclear weapons.
But that will be a decision made by the Bush administration.
+++++++++++++
WALLACE: Before I bring Juan in here, let me ask you to play your scenario out. They say no. The sanctions go nowhere. Where are we headed?
KRISTOL: The president said in the clip you showed Iran will not have nuclear weapons.
Not if a Democrat-controlled Congress refuses to fund it, he won’t.
June 4th, 2006 at 4:07 pmWouldn’t there be some economy of scale if we just invaded the whole world?
June 4th, 2006 at 4:11 pmHow many of us would be willing to follow Bush & company to the gates of hell? No thanks I’ll pass.
June 4th, 2006 at 4:12 pmBush will not attack Iraq.
Cheney will attack Iraq.
That’s what’s gonna happen.
Wanna bet?
June 4th, 2006 at 4:13 pmA worrisome backdrop is that many of the hard line supporters of President Bush and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad respectively are pushing towards conflict with threir eerily similar views about Armageddon, the End of Times and the Second Coming.
For the disturbing analysis, see:
June 4th, 2006 at 4:13 pm“Iran, Bush and the Second Coming.”
Iran is about as much a threat to US security as Slappy White.
Even IF Iran is capable of coming up with a working Nuke, it will take YEARS.
And even then, they won’t have one that can reach the US.
So whats all the fuss?
June 4th, 2006 at 4:19 pmCould this be another case of God told ‘em or is it Dick whispering in ear? None of the above – just a conservative beating himself about being liberal with war. I dunno.
June 4th, 2006 at 4:26 pmThis is great news
1/ i get to watch the world cup in peace with no disruptions of war in the background
2/ I can goto Turkey for a summer holiday if I want too
3/ If I’m Right Congress will be in democrat hands by then and lets hope they resolve this by TALKING to the Iranians, that should be easy
4/ Lets hope this is real news
June 4th, 2006 at 4:27 pmHow does Kristol know this shit? Tool.
George W. Bush = The greatest known threat to world security.
Ya’ll know I love you, right? But I need a break the rest of today, because I’m pretty sure I’m going to be in a giant rage tomorrow over the great diversion of big scary Gay Marriage. I think a little Harry Potter and Monty Python will be my great diversion today. Peace…
June 4th, 2006 at 4:28 pmIs Bush’s desire to invade Iran;
A. A desrie of Bush’s to “tame” the middle east, and put a permanent US military presence close to Russia and China.
B,A desire to control the oil.
C A “wag the dog”. attempt to rally the American people around the President again using the war song, thus detracting from all his mistakes.
D. ALL OF THE ABOVE
June 4th, 2006 at 4:30 pm#1
June 4th, 2006 at 4:34 pmCongress funding or not funding an invasion will be after the fact — Israel will preemptively bomb Iran – or Bush will – and WWIII will begin, dragging Congress and all of us along.
BTW the smirking, smug and santimonious Kristol also said he liked the sound of “Supreme Leader Bush.”
These fascists may all be delusional, suffering from a peculiar madness or hysteria, but they are in power. If Bush begins a war in Iran, he may even try to remain in office. If he begins a war in Iran and leaves the mess to a Democrat, the Dems will be blamed. He may see himself in a win-win situation.
Just like with the Iraqi war Bush has already decided he will invade Iran. Billy knows this. He must have been in on the discussions. You know part of the corporate wing of the Repug party and privy to all the crap.!!

June 4th, 2006 at 4:46 pmCNN: COVER OF TIME: HADITHA
Was this Kristol the same clown that suggested that Bush should be supreme commander on the Faux News? If this is true, then clearly Bush is determined to be the first president to wage three losing military campaigns.
June 4th, 2006 at 4:47 pmTIME PUTS HADITHA ON COVER
June 4th, 2006 at 4:48 pmhttp://edition.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/06/04/time.cover/index.html
Bush will never control Iran even with all his military might
70 million population , 70% under 35 years of age, mountainous terrain, big army, 450 warships, decent airforce, loads of jihadists that probably have nerve gas smuggled in coco cola tins in the US already, lets face it ,in the uk 5 tonnes of marijuana get smuggled in whats a kilo of nerve agent to smuggle ….nothing
it already has pacts with other countries if attacked (Syria , Palestine, Hez bullah etc)
Iran will soon be a member of the shanghai corperation ??? which will give it protection from invasion with pacts from china, Russia, India, pakistan, etc etc
( Russia with 22,000 warheads with 600 quick release aimed at US, China with 500 warheads and 200 quick release aimed at US)
On top of that the UN will not let an attack happen
The world will cash in the dollar and America will be bankrupt and cannot afford a war
US embassies world wide will be expelled
there will be no oil anywhere
Any American tourist outside America will be shot
Millions of Muslims will join together up in arms
Sorry if you think America will Invade Iran and win it will be the end of humaninty first
June 4th, 2006 at 4:54 pmat least we have a year on the above news….phew thats better than I thought I was expecting after the world cup at the earliest and Nov at the latest
June 4th, 2006 at 4:58 pmPHEW
Kristol also said the administration’s handling of Katrina was bad policy. Is this openly Nazi or what? Mostly poor blacks/genocide.
June 4th, 2006 at 5:14 pm15/ in the uk 5 tonnes of marijuana get smuggled in PER DAY I SHOULD SAY whats a kilo of nerve agent to smuggle ….nothing after all most of the hashees comes from Arabic countries too.

June 4th, 2006 at 5:16 pmThis is a line of crap from Lips Manliss and his extremist nutcase cohorts both in the U.S. and Israel – there is no way this bunch is going to wait 12 months. I’d say 12 days. Hold onto your loved ones.
June 4th, 2006 at 5:23 pmUh 12 months doesn’t fit in with the mid-term election schedule. Bush better push it up, to instill the “fear of terrorists/Big Daddy Bush will protect you from them so you better do what he asks of you” meme just in time to make everyone run, feverishly, fearfully to the polling places and vote for Bush Republicans.
So that we can repeat the Iraq fiasco, with extremely worse negative consequences.
June 4th, 2006 at 5:29 pmBeware the smoke screen. This bum is trying to make it seem like the Iran attack is being planned for some undetermined time, far into the future. Of course, they’ve already developed the false flag operation – probably on American soil – which will “allow” them to blame Iran, then start dropping bombs before anyone has a chance to ask questions.
The darkness is looming…..
June 4th, 2006 at 5:44 pmI’ve heard we have a 2nd carrier, America, sailing to the Persian Gulf. Officially, it will be there to relieve the Kitty Hawk, I think mid-June would be the time to start watching. If Kristol says 12 months, I’d be prepared for shock-and-awe in the next couple of weeks. You know there is a war on Republicans maintaining their political power. They want go down without taking us alldown with them. They know a loss of Congress means the end of the line. These guys are playing for keeps….war criminals are like that.

June 4th, 2006 at 5:53 pmYou’re mistaken if you think the pending invasion of Iran has anything to do with nukes. It’s actually about the use of the Euro as the trading currency in the new Saudi/Iranian oil bourse.

Bush and the PNAC cronies have to be stopped.
June 4th, 2006 at 5:54 pmANVILHEAD….. LOL!!
June 4th, 2006 at 6:06 pmSaddam Hussein was pressing for oil to be traded in Euros before Bush took him down. That is the threat to the economy looming out there.

There will be no war from the 9th of June as the world cup ( worlds biggest sporting event and with the USA in the finals, and Blair is football mad and so is Europe and the world ) happens in germany and finals are 8/7/06 , If theres a war there will be an outcry from Europe and the world if we see on our TV Muslim bodies and NOT football results and replays — bet your ass on that
PS I dont really like football BUT I watch every game in the world cup cause i love the world cup
June 4th, 2006 at 6:26 pmPPS I even watch the USA matches for their brave comedy performances — i.e. there funny
Your headline uses the word “invade”. Who will invade: pudgy Bill and creepy Grover?
More likely “attack” is a better word, involving missles and such. They look better on TV and no American casualties will be seen.
June 4th, 2006 at 6:41 pmWhat a loathsome creep.
June 4th, 2006 at 6:46 pmWhy do people still listen to Bill “PNAC” Kristol? He should be thrown behind bars for life along with the rest of the Neocon Cabal war criminals.

June 4th, 2006 at 7:01 pmKristol’s remark is made solely to agitate the more extreme elements into making an attack. Otherwise what other excuse could there for be saying openly that you believe your President will commit an internationally recognized war crime?
June 4th, 2006 at 7:30 pmAnother trigger happy neocon. How easy for him to promote war . Hell he never saw one closer than his living room/
June 4th, 2006 at 7:48 pmLOL Kristol is lying because the plan is to attack Iran before the November elections > afterward is too late for Bush since he might not control the House or Senate after November!
June 4th, 2006 at 9:08 pmA worrisome backdrop is that many of the hard line supporters of President Bush and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad respectively are pushing towards conflict with threir eerily similar views about Armageddon, the End of Times and the Second Coming.
For the disturbing analysis, see:
“Iran, Bush and the Second Coming.â€
Avenging Angel is quite correct, however the elitists, such as Bush, whom are just ‘esoteric’ capitalists, do not believe in the end times, or armageddoon scenario.
It is however a useful tool to grab the world by it’s prophets, or religious texts, and rule them.
I encourage a reading of Angels work =)
June 4th, 2006 at 9:10 pmStaying the Course- Our Negotiations With Iran
The whole world awaits the pride from leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, a decisive place where the negotiations begin and the finality of world decisions starts. The others leader’s are fighting for world peace with the wishful undermining of others, hides in the background. Iran is fishing in a sea of deception and America know this. Nuclear energy is not Iran’s true motives. Whatever the outcome of these negotiations at some point, Iran will pose their nations rights to possess nuclear bombs. They argue that its not fair since other nations can bare Nuclear bombs and we can’t. Ideally they’re right but they don’t include their history as to why we stand in their way. If Iran concedes, it will only be for a short time but my instincts say, they will not. They want ownership and control of their nation. Iran’s leader Khamenei said, “Unlike the US, we have no claim to dominate the world.” This statement is inaccurate. What Khamenei really means is- I want to dominate and annihilate any nation whose been a threat to my country. It’s obvious that Iran is a threat but does that warrant an attack from us? Some say yes but this day has been seasoned with our mistakes in Iraq and a different perspective on who the United States is. We must have an understanding of what this season could become soon.
If we start a war because Iran is now a greater threat, even without an attack from them, we will have WWIII. We have to understand a watchful eye on our enemies is what we should do for just this moment. UN Sanctions won’t increase Iran’s animosity towards us because their animosity is already at its fullest but animosity will change and increase with Russia, China and other nations.
UN Sanctions perpetuate the myth of our need to control how other nation rules. If we continue to miss Iran’s manipulation in these negotiations, we will be in another war before the year over. A war we can’t afford and a war that will turn other nations against us. You see, Iran wants war and so why would they back down? For Iran to walk away from the Russia/Iran nuclear deal, is impossible for Khamenei. He will be seen as weak to his people and he will not allow that perception. He wants to rule his country with the similar warfare that his enemies possess.
Timing is key to our foresight in our negotiations. We know what these negotiations really mean. There is a small chance that Iran and the US may gain a better relationship but Nukes are in Iran’s agenda. When the day comes that they obtain Nukes, we will have another enemy capable of starting a major war by attacking Israel and America. No matter how you interpret the Iran negotiations, a major war will come. Its either at the end of the year when the deal goes through or many years later.
America is a great nation. We have fought for world peace. We’ve intervened and helped many nations in war or inner civil war’s. We should be proud of how our nation has helped our neighbors across the oceans. Iraq is just another good deed by us; even though we made some mistakes, in the end, we saved the Iraqi people from Saddem and we should be proud of this. If Iran says no to the incentives, the solution is to continue to establish a working relationship with them. If Iran will agree that UN officials may regularly observe their activities, to insure their intent is sincere, then that is a negotiation we need to be open to. Some may think of this as backing down and Iran wins but this is not the case. Many leaders of armies were known as great because timing was defining place of conscious for them.
Iran could still possibly change its attitude towards the United States but in my opinion, it will be only for a short season. Its sounds like fairy tale to write that but what’s not a fairy tale is this—UN sanctions will not be enough after the deal goes through. More than likely, we will enter a war with Iran and bring many other nations in. Our leadership must a patient conscious and not allow pride to cause the dismissal of this season.
Staying the course to establish a working relationship with Iran is a strategic move that offers more time and preparation. The negotiations at the table can work in our favor, if we understand the season that the whole world is in.

June 4th, 2006 at 9:11 pmSomeone Please tell me if this people love war this much…because it really sounds like it.
June 4th, 2006 at 9:11 pmOne thing he said right is that Bush needs to clean up his own mess before he leaves. That I agree with. Little Bush can’t always expect his dad and others to fix his problems.
Every pic of Kristol shows that he is tan, but I think he just sticks his head in a tanning machine and the rest of his body is pasty white > lol.
June 4th, 2006 at 9:44 pmRaven #37 – A truly thoughtful comment. Sadly, you assume that the Bushco Administration is a rational actor in this situation. Iran is but another bug on the squash list. The WWIII part will come with China.
June 4th, 2006 at 10:45 pmPNAC …need we say more?
June 4th, 2006 at 11:11 pmIt’s the Iraq playbook all over again. Bush is feigning diplomacy with Iran by making an offer that he knows damned good and well that they’ll completely reject out of hand so he can use that as a pretext for invading them.
One problem: With or without the MSM’s support (and he’s gotten it, so far, with this fake Iran Has Nukes Bullshit), this time around he won’t have the support of the American people like he did over three years ago.
Anyway, attention parents of high school kids: My middle kid graduated high school today. These are my impressions of the graduation ceremony and what awaits my kid and millions of others this coming fall. Be sure to click on the link I provided. I never knew until tonight that this conservative organization existed or that those so young could so easily throw George W. Bush under the wheels.

June 5th, 2006 at 1:34 amNeither Bush nor Cheney will ever attack Iran. They will send the poor schnooks in the U.S. military to do it for them. It’s the administration’s patented “their guts with our blood and money” philosophy. (too bad the birdflu doesn’t affect chickenhawks)
June 5th, 2006 at 1:58 amInvade? Where does Kristol say anything about invading Iran? Military action doesn’t necessarily mean invasion. If Bush invades Iran, he has gone bat shit crazy and I will demonstrate in the streets. Some military action, however, seems to be more and more likely an option since Iran is just screwing around with everyone to buy themselves more time.
June 5th, 2006 at 2:40 amIran has been on the PNAC agenda even before 9/11. There’s an oilrace going on with China and therefore USA needs to enter Iran permanently. They will make it happen somehow.
June 5th, 2006 at 4:01 amKristol is just speaking for his real boss, the state of Israel, who of course wanted to invade Iran yesterday. When are we going to stop having our foreign policy dictated by a U.S. welfare state (per capita, Israelis receive more U.S tax dollars than Americans) and come to our senses. If you thought the invasion of Iraq was a catastrophe, you’re going to love the sequel.
June 5th, 2006 at 5:48 amLets just call the neocons what they are, they are Nazis in expensive suits and clean cut hair styles (Nazis were outfitted by Hugo Boss after all).
They care nothing for common people, the military, US govt institutions or anything except their own rabid lust for power and world domination.
These people must be ejected from power, tried for crimes against humanity and signed up to the US military to patrol the front lines of the chaos they have unleashed on Iraq.
That would be just punishment, and a lesson to all future armchair warmongers who spew their hate filled drivel from comfy TV studios. Bastards to a man.
June 5th, 2006 at 6:03 amUN Should Deal with Iran, Say Americans
(Angus Reid Global Scan) – Most adults in the United States believe the United Nations (UN) should be the main player in discussions about Iran’s nuclear program, according to a poll by Princeton Survey Research Associates for the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. 72 per cent of respondents want the UN to deal with the issue, while 21 per cent prefer the United States.

June 5th, 2006 at 7:15 amHow fast can bush get a military draft enacted?
June 5th, 2006 at 7:39 amYEAH, WELL, IF BUSH DOES GO FOR IRAN, HE’S GOING TO GO IT ALONE.
AND THAT MEANS WITHOUT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TOO.
LET HIS BUDDIES AS EXXON, HALLIBURTON AND CARLYLE GROUP FUND THIS ONE.
THEY’RE ALL JUST AS CROOKED AS HIM.
June 5th, 2006 at 7:43 amKristol and his right wing neocon buddies are just starting to warm us up for the possible scenario in 2008 of suspending the elections and placing the country into martial law under the guise of the country being in a two front war in the Middle East Iraq and Iran) and who knows what other trumped up situation they can dream up so that they and thier kind can promote fear and instability to remain in power.
I feel this way because these right wing extremist having been biding their time for a long time now to get themselves into a position of power and control in this country. Now that they have it, is it not reasonable to conclude that they will not give it easily?
Even if the Democrats can take back the house in 2006 (assuming that we have an election). Two of the three branches of government, the Executive and Judicial are now in control by these right wing neocons and any attempts to put a stop to anything that would diminish that power will be backed up by the Supreme Court and would negate anything that congress would try and do. Look what they have done so far to neutralize congress, in effect congress today is nothing but a rubber stamping arm of the govenrment to these people.
It is scary to think what these neocons are capable of in destroying the foundations that this country was built on.
June 5th, 2006 at 8:34 amTom
3 front war. Afghanistan will probably still be going at that point, it isn’t the easiest land to conquor. That is just the best case scenario, there is a strong probability that a war with Iran would result in WWIII, with China and Russia backing the Middle Eastern states, England starting out neutral but eventually joining Europe in a bid to get it’s mits on some of that oil. It will be a fight in which even if America wins it will lose, because after the first nuke (probably an American one) the same rules which kept nukes out of play in the cold war will come into it. Even should America win the nuclear war, the cost of the peace will criple America’s economy, slowly grinding it down.
June 5th, 2006 at 10:13 amBruce,
Your right about a three front war, forgot about Afghanistan! Your comments about this administration putting this country in a positionof being the catylast to WWIII is right on as well.
Amazing how these so called patriots of this country have managed to squander away, (military, prestige, you name it) that this country has stood for is beyond comprehension.
But as I said earlier, these people have managed to put all of the pieces into play that could lead to a complete take over of whatever will be left of this country.
The other piece that I forgot to mention earlier that they have is control olf the media that as we now see does the biding for these guys as well, passing on the message one way or another to justify what they do.
June 5th, 2006 at 10:41 amAnd even then, they won’t have one that can reach the US.
So whats all the fuss?
Comment by FLAVIUS WORFEUS #6
Flavius,
Not to mention the fact that should Iran successfully build a nuclear weapon…
…they’ll only have what? two, three, TEN of them?
…compare that to Israel’s 3-400…
…or America’s tens-of-thousands…
…now what damn fool would attack America OR Israel with (at most) TEN nukes?…
Flave,
…this is MORE political opportunism for the military industrial complex…
…and TREASONOUS right wing REPUBLISCUM party…
…”wagging the dog” at its most ludicrous…
…these vile Bushite dogs will do anything to maintain power…
…Iran would be foolish NOT to develop nuclear weapons…
…considering the Bushites’ refusal to grant them (Iranians) security guarantees, and opposition to the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty…
…bushiva’s America is anation of racist hypocrites…
…Russia, China, and others understand this…

Everything is in place for them to continue in power, voting machines?, telecommunications, spying, judicial branch, Congress and Senate Demos are not against the war and bought out. Look at the San Diego election do you see a land slide change, 3rd party votes went up but far from a big change, Demo might have won with them if they went with Demo? Very concerned, very concerned. June 10th, 2006 at 12:31 pm[...] Bush will now permit direct talks with Iran, which is described as a “major policy shift” by the MSM. A little closer look at the details indicates that Bush has not changed his policy of regime change, but simply found a different method to achieve his goals. This new method is to ostensibly discuss resolution of the conflict with Iran to appease global and internal pressures for diplomacy, but not to engage in true substantive talks that would accomplish resolution as that would eliminate grounds for regime change. And the whole “diplomacy” process is capped off with a 12-months deadline to ensure Bush can start regime change during his tenure. [...]
