It’s official. White House domestic policy advisor Karl Zinsmeister, appointed just days ago, admits he isn’t the “founder” of the American Enterprise magazine. The claim was made in his official White House announcement and his AEI bio. Actually, he started working for the magazine four years after it was founded by AEI senior fellow Karlyn Bowman.
Wal-Mart fights health care bill with a fake news release, warning people that increased health insurance will create higher gas prices and air fares.
Today, David Safavian admitted he was unqualified to be the General Services Administration’s chief of staff. “Did you think you were qualified for the job?” the federal prosecutor asked him. “Probably not, actually,” Safavian said.
Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity may soon be removed from Armed Forces Radio. “In a highly unexpected development,†a radio consulting firm hired by the military has strongly recommended dumping all political talk shows from stations that reach the vast majority of troops and others residing overseas.
“The U.S. Armed Forces disposed of chemical weapons in the ocean from World War I through 1970,” the Congressional Research Service notes in a “valuable new report” made public by Secrecy News. A 2001 U.S. Army report found that “past disposal of chemical weapons in the ocean had been more common and widespread geographically than previously acknowledged.”

What did we miss? Let us know in the comments section.
The Zinsmeistermeister: Lying about your job history will get you canned at virtually any other employer but not at BushCo where loyalty and spouting the company line trumps talent and expertise.
June 5th, 2006 at 7:19 pmThe troops are listening to Rush? LOL. The draft-dodging, cowardly chickenhawk who denounces anyone who doesn’t support the war but did not have the balls to put his own body where his mouth is. If I were an active duty GI, I would immediately give this dickhead an emergency enema, with a hand grenade.
June 5th, 2006 at 7:28 pmI wonder if the the troops at Tillis air base were listening to Rush when he fawned over the bogus caller Lt Colonel Luke Fitzpatrick.
More amusing was Safavian claiming to have no idea what a flight to Europe might cost. That would be an interesting question to put to Bush.
June 5th, 2006 at 7:35 pmYou forgot to mention that Air America and NPR’s numbers were in the toilet on Armed Forces Radio – BTW has Air America been able to come up with more depp pocket donors?
June 5th, 2006 at 7:38 pmOkay, I’m thinking that Bush is not mearly stupid, he’s out of his freaking mind.
The public will see right through today’s little diversion into gay bashing for what it is. And not only that, he’s going to lose anyway. WTF?
A play for the base…what base:
Bush Solidifies Base: Tongues wag as 32% of U.S. turns into pillars of salt.
…There were whispers in the faith community about the odd parallel of the diehard Bush supporters meeting the same fate as the Biblical Lot’s wife, who was turned into a salt pillar upon looking back longingly on the burning city of Sodom. A spokesman with the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington sought to downplay the divine connection, saying “any similarities between what Bush has done to the country and what was going on in Sodom and Gomorrah is purely coincidental…
June 5th, 2006 at 7:50 pmLimbaugh and Hannity shows on military radio account for much of the misinformation available to the troops, many of whom still believe we are in Iraq because Saddam Hussein was connected to 9/11.
June 5th, 2006 at 7:54 pmAir America had to fight for a one hour broadcast, which was started, then stopped, they restarted somewhere near the midnight hour.
BUT don’t think that because a consulting form has suggested that talk radio be dropped, that it will be done. Rummy needs the troops to be like mushrooms (you’ve all heard it – kept in the dark and fed shit).
Limbaughs insane drug induced racist rants surely don’t help the troops whom Bush has turned into “Nation Builders”
In My view.
June 5th, 2006 at 8:01 pmREMOVE RUSH TO REMOVE ED SHULTZ
===================
The only possible reason why they would remove Rush is self interest. It can only be to have a reason to get Ed Shultz or other progressives off the air also.
June 5th, 2006 at 8:12 pmLove vintage cameras? And squirrels? At long last, a website brings them both together.
Damn, those are some talented tree rats.
June 5th, 2006 at 10:26 pmArmy report found that “past disposal of chemical weapons in the ocean had been more common and widespread geographically than previously acknowledged.â€
Ah, the cleansing oceans. The containers have been down there long enough to start losing integrity….scary.
June 5th, 2006 at 10:32 pmWal-Mart fights health care bill with a fake news release, warning people that increased health insurance will create higher gas prices and air fares.
Won’t someone PLEASE think about the bazillionaires!?
June 5th, 2006 at 10:35 pmNot a good day today watching Republicans like Sen. Brownback bash Gays > claiming if they get married the United States will fall apart like Sweden? LOL dumb Sam has never been to Sweden, but what the hell he uses them to denigrate Gays getting married > really weird!
June 5th, 2006 at 10:48 pmfrom the radio (un)equalizer story (ugh, you really should warn us):
“…if both liberal and conservative programming are dealt the same blow, where’s the bias?
Because conservative talkers are many times more popular with the troops than their liberal counterparts,”
because that was all that was offered
“the right will suffer greatly, while “progressives” have much less to lose. That’s because very few stationed overseas are listening to the lefties.”
that’s because there is so little “lefty” radio… and only recently at that…
i think it’s no wonder things like haditha happen with the hate and ignorance spewing forth from righty radio…
and did you all get to the story about RFKjr?
RFK Jr blames Big Oil for Air America’s revenue shortfalls!
“The network has been boycotted by the pharmaceutical, oil and automobile industries – which are the biggest advertisers,†Kennedy points out. “We can’t get those advertisers because they’re the ones we criticize.â€
well duh… but this guy maloney is a real ace… he thinks it’s the ratings…
AAR is the best thing to happen to this truth telling process, next to TP – better late than never…
and bobby’s show – ring of fire – is really amazing… a must hear…
ALMOST TIME FOR JON!!! AND STEPHEN!!! 2 weeks is too long!!!
June 5th, 2006 at 10:54 pmThe squirrels are the perfect Father’s Day card for my dad – Thanks!
June 5th, 2006 at 11:06 pmReally gosh darn cute.
Thanks Mighty, that was actually an on topic interesting point. I wandered if the reason for the recommendation included problems with all political talk shows. Any “side” creates divisiveness, which you don’t want among your troops. I see the recommendation as suppressing all news.
June 5th, 2006 at 11:18 pmDo the troops still get to watch TV, or get news from other sources, will removing radio news have a big effect?
June 5th, 2006 at 11:20 pmEver been to Mono Lake California? There is a sign which marks an area where experimental testing occurred by the Navy, no other info though. What were they doing there?
June 5th, 2006 at 11:22 pmDear Wal Mart culture:
Someday, perhaps in the end, it will be widely accepted that your culture is harmful to humans.
June 5th, 2006 at 11:25 pmPost 17 > I was born in California and have been to Mono Lake area many times! The Navy must of tested metals for corrosion on that lake > it is one of the most toxic chemical filled lakes in the world, and can eat through all types of metal, so the Navy was testing metals!
June 5th, 2006 at 11:57 pmTesting of steel for hulls of Navy ships!
June 5th, 2006 at 11:59 pmI’m shocked to hear the military’s been dumping chemical weapons in the ocean. No wonder there are so many problems with our oceans. Granted, this was just a drop in the bucket, but it all adds up in the end. Did anyone have a look at the PDF listing the chemicals and quantities dumped? I wonder how many other countries are still doing this as well.
June 6th, 2006 at 12:17 amAnd finally: Love vintage cameras? And squirrels? At long last, a website brings them both together.
Bwhahaha, random non-political stuff is awesome.
June 6th, 2006 at 12:54 amwalmart makes money, lots of money. For every 315 dollars walmart makes, it profits eleven dollars. It has a net income of over eleven billion dollars through January 31, 2006. It has 1.8 million employees. At a thousand dollar cost for health care for those employees, it would cost them 1.8 billion dollars.
The stock holders wouldn’t like that very much, so walmart must make losts of noise about the cost of health care. It would cost them plenty. Walmart would possibly operate at a loss if it paid employee health care costs. The US government would lose out on some five billion dollars paid to them in taxes. It’s bad for business all the way around if walmart buys health insurance for its employees. The US government is culpable too.
‘Republicans’ just doing their job.
On the other hand, Starbucks employees are given full benefits if they work twenty hours or more each week.
what to do? buy starbucks coffee, don’t buy at walmart. simple logic.
June 6th, 2006 at 1:10 am[...] This is a good idea, just as a practical matter [...]
June 6th, 2006 at 1:35 amThe removal of parts of Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions is not so much about “humiliating and degrading treatment”. It is really about being able to justify and use torture. The focus in the press thus far has been on the wrong side of the interrogation spectrum. Here’s the torture angle.
June 6th, 2006 at 2:32 amMash.
I agree. My concern, and that of others I am sure, is “what goes around, comes around.” By playing these word games with the definition of torture, we are subjecting our kids in our armed forces to similar treatment.
Fortunately, my children are not in the armed forces. But I do have a son of draftable age. I am concerned.
June 6th, 2006 at 2:51 amRegarding WalMart:
They’re right, in a way. A person’s health should not depend upon their employment status, nor upon who is their employer.
There’s a reason why we’re the only industrialized nation NOT providing universal health care: the health care and insurance industry PROFITS from the current system.
June 6th, 2006 at 2:58 amWalMart just had to lie, didn’t they? Calling their financial responsibility an ‘8 & 1/2 Billion dollar TAX on the economy.” What a crock!!! It is not a tax, and does not concern the ‘economy’. WalMart is just pissed about having to pay a portion of healthcare costs for their employees. States are tired of picking up the tab alone. Time for WalMart to ‘buck-up’ here. Quit whining, you can afford it.
June 6th, 2006 at 4:24 amI can’t tell you where I’d really love to dump Limbaugh and Hannity. Hate spewers disguised as journalists.
June 6th, 2006 at 6:24 amIn regard to the scaling back of Limbaugh and Hannity, and talk radio in general, on Armed Forces Radio, consider the impact of Air America. I believe Armed Forces Radio had begun to broadcast Al Franken and Ed Schultz. Are the neo-cons, who have a choke hold on the Pentagon, cutting back on talk radio so that they do not have to allow progressive counterbalance to the hate and lies propaganda by Limbaugh and Hannity, i.e., better no talk radio at all than progressive talk radio? I suggest that the power of Air America is undervalued and underreported (which might be for the best). It is having a profound effect across the country, and throughout the US military.
June 6th, 2006 at 9:04 amLOL you missed the National Review, listing Holiday in Cambodia by the dead kennedys as one of the top 100 conservative rock songs ever. I guess they missed california uberalles and all the other ant-establishment songs the DK sang.

June 6th, 2006 at 9:11 amDelightful photos of “squirrel fishing” can be found at http://www.eecs.harvard.edu/~yaz/en/squirrel_fishing.html
Rumors that the radical right has attempted to suppress these pictures are probably false.
June 6th, 2006 at 9:43 amTRICKLE DOWN economics, as practiced by republican administrations has never worked. They all have tried it for at least 60 years. It is time to bring forth a new economic solution, one which might help Bushco get his economic house in order and which might help produce jobs.
Lets try TRICKLE UP economics. Tax the richest 5 percent of this country and see if that does the job!
June 6th, 2006 at 9:59 amI was on the USS Enterprise between 1976 and 1980; and I know for a fact that the ship was dumping radioactive waste at that time. I didn’t like it then, and I really don’t like it now. Just demonstrates the militaries callous disregard for the environment. As for proving it, that is another matter.
June 6th, 2006 at 12:32 pmNice post!
