By the way, I live in a very Republican County in Texas and I, too, am amazed that our populist energy of yore has somehow been hijacked by the likes of Karl Rove, a closet case if ever there was one. I am wondering how I got into this rapidly moving handbasket!

I take it that that was directed at me. I never claimed that you were christian at all. Read my post. I did make the assumption that you were claiming that I would suddenly become one if I were scared enough. Perhaps you were thinking that anyone in a firefight, foxhole or burning building should become a Muslim? A Jew? I guess I just put my money on the idea that you were assuming that I would become a christian. That is *so* hateful of me!

On top of that, of course, you didn’t respond to what I wrote. But then you actually have to give some reasons, use logic, etc. And thinking coherently is pretty clearly not your strong point.

And don’t flatter yourself — I don’t think that your devastating critiques (smirk) of the “gay agenda” are getting anyone angry here. Speaking for myself, I read your posts much like I used to see the Jerry Springer show: hardly anything to get angry about, and it makes me realize how lucky I am to have a sound mind when there are people like you who have obviously lost theirs.

What an incredibly stupid comment. Are you now telling me that the only reason people don’t believe in your invisible friend is because they have never been faced with death? Well, I am a living example. I have been in a life-threatening accident and had a family member face death just a few months ago. Been in a firefight as well as a burning building. And yet here I am, still entirely unconvinced that an omnipotent, omniscient and benevolent deity exists.

How about if you have a family member die; watch someone suffer a long, debilitating chronic illness. Then tell me how great your invisible friend is. He either doesn’t exist, or he is a cosmic Saddam Hussein: get good stuff if you suck up to him; otherwise be tortured. Yeah, that is a being that really exists…

Surely your faith is on more solid grounds than simply fear of death? Is that the extent of it? If so, you really don’t have much faith at all.
