Ann Coulter may have plagiarized

By Amanda Terkel on Jun 12th, 2006 at 1:25 pm

Ann Coulter may have plagiarized»

parts of her new book. The Rude Pundit has already found two examples in Chapter 1.

UPDATE: Coulter wasn’t always a fan of plagiarism.

I love watching the self-righteous implode! How funny… Well, if she lied about the church she ‘attends’, surely there must be other lies in her auto-biography (’Godless’ is about her life story right? :)

  2. Praise The Leader Says:

What can the consequences be for her? I know she makes millions by distracting us with her hate-speech. But can there be some real legal action against her plagiarism, if she did?

  3. GSD Says:

If the leftis Godless, then Ann Coulter is Shameless, Talentless and Soulless.

    -GSD

  4. Krazny Says:

the rude pundit is usually a fun read. I think his examples of Ann’s plagarism, are a not a big deal really, but I do like to read his blog.

  5. Evil Spaniard Says:

But really, who thinks she can write so many books by herself with so few background in anything interesting and/or practycal to say? For sure she has some student slave writers who write that crap for her. And for sure they cut & paste the whole internet each time. It’s easy to be so productive, when you add nothing substantial to the written world. You only need a couple scribes working for you in the shadows.

  6. Al Says:

Maybe Oprah can have AC on her show and let her know how very, very disappointed she is…

  7. Karl Rove Says:

I don’t see it. It’s basic 9th grade level education writing out of a newspaper. Short and sweet.

  8. unbelievable Says:

    Short and sweet.
    Comment by Karl Rove — June 12, 2006 @ 1:37 pm

You know all about ’short’ dontcha…

  9. S.D. Says:

    Would it really surprise anyone?

  10. ProgressiveChristian Says:

You mean there is someone else out there as hateful and evil as she is?

  11. Zookeeper Says:

Anne Coulter a plagiarist? SHOCKING! :-D

I can’t believe TP linked to The Rude Pundit. I start everyday with his Rudeness — and he is absolutely the rudest, but he’s also very smart.

  12. Hardy Haberman Says:

Ann’s book is titled “Godless” and like every other neo-con, you can count on whatever she says is 180 degrees from the truth. Talk about Godless, she is as far from a Christian as you can get. She’s had her 15 minutes of fame, let her rot in obscurity now.

  13. Retired Republican Soldier Says:

“But really, who thinks she can write so many books by herself with so few background in anything interesting and/or practycal to say? For sure she has some student slave writers who write that crap for her.”
    Clearly and empty-headed NeoCon:
Coulter is the legal correspondent for Human Events and writes a popular syndicated column for Universal Press Syndicate. She is a frequent guest on many TV shows, including Hannity and Colmes, Wolf Blitzer Reports, At Large With Geraldo Rivera, Scarborough Country, HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, The O’Reilly Factor, Good Morning America and has been profiled in numerous publications, including TV Guide, the Guardian (UK), the New York Observer, National Journal, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle magazine, among others. She was named one of the top 100 Public Intellectuals by federal judge Richard Posner in 2001.
Coulter clerked for the Honorable Pasco Bowman II of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and was an attorney in the Department of Justice Honors Program for outstanding law school graduates.
After practicing law in private practice in New York City, Coulter worked for the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she handled crime and immigration issues for Senator Spencer Abraham of Michigan. From there, she became a litigator with the Center For Individual Rights in Washington, DC, a public interest law firm dedicated to the defense of individual rights with particular emphasis on freedom of speech, civil rights, and the free exercise of religion.
A Connecticut native, Coulter graduated with honors from Cornell University School of Arts & Sciences, and received her J.D. from University of Michigan Law School, where she was an editor of The Michigan Law Review.

Oh yes Evil Spaniard, so few background in anything interesting. Nothing on her resume’ but space.

I love Ann because everytime she publishes a book the LLL m0ob@+5 go a little bit more nuts.

  14. Krazny Says:

Actually RRS the left just shakes its head in wonder, and thinks things like, yeah but were the ones filled with hate. If you wish to make Ann your goddess go for it. Though if I remember correctly the ten commandments says something about no gods before me. As was pointed out on the last thread about Ann, she does not deserve the time spent on her. She does not need to be on any of the shows you mentioned. She doesn’t bring any sort of reason to a debate just her own brand of hate, misinformation, and vitriol.

  15. G.W.SuperChrist Says:

I hate Ann Coulter as much as the next guy - but I don’t see this as that big of a deal… I think it is a stretch to call it plagerism.

  16. Evil Spaniard Says:

#13 My point, RRS is: with all that background, why she has left it now to be simply a rabid talking head? She has left legal honorability back to make money. And his resumé, as long as it is, isn’t needed to act like a clown in TV shows. Frankly, she has sold his soul for a couple silver coins.

So, from my point of view ALL of his background has been dismissed only to sell books and give thousand-dollars speeches full of hate, and almost baseless, only to ignite republican hardcore followers.

  17. Shawn Says:

Hard to believe anyone else would write the filth that Satan, uh I mean Coulter spews, but it’s looking like the evil one has done it.

  18. Antagonist Says:

That’s mighty fairminded of you G.W. I didn’t think you had it in you.

  19. Cyra Brown Says:

#13- If she is so ‘accomplished’, why does she feel the need to be so cruel to others? Certainly, with all of her ‘credentials’, she should be quite capable of civilized discourse. Her bottom-dwelling attacks are surely unworthy of a person with her education. But that is what she chooses to engage in. She issued the ‘invitation’, people are ‘responding’ to it. And you know how important the ability to ‘respond’ is to her.

  20. Barfly Says:

That’s mighty fairminded of you G.W. I didn’t think you had it in you.

    Comment by Antagonist

And if Al Gore had been caught doing the same thing you’d be all over it. Yes, it is plagiarism. If you’re in doubt, San Jose State has a tutorial on the subject. Just go to their site.

  21. Zookeeper Says:

#19 - Cyra, I heard Keith Olbermann say one time that he went to college with her, can’t remember the name of the college, but it was a prominent name. It sounded like he had absolutely no respect for her — now or then. She does have quite the resume, and I’m sure it’s been checked. I’ve always wondered why she oozes such bilious rage.

  22. Willy Says:

It’s good thing that the right has the left to call Godless. Otherwise the right wouldn’t be able to live with themselves and their Godless actions, such as:

starting wars responsible for 10,000’s (or is it 100,000’s) deaths,
    torturing,
locking up “detainees” indefinitely without trial or legal counsel,
hating (minorities, immigrants, gays, lesbians, liberals, the poor, etc.),
taking from the poor and giving to the rich.

All of those wonderful things that God “loves”.

  23. Lollerskates Says:

I just read half of the first chapter that was linked in Rude Pundit’s blog and I’ve never ever read such slanted, bitter, vitrol-filled writing anywhere–much less from someone who claims to a Christian. So much love you must have and exhibit to say the things you do, Anne. And as a lawyer, you should know better than to plagarize.

  24. Barfly Says:

It’s good thing that the right has the left to call Godless.

    Comment by Willy — June 12, 2006 @ 2:59 pm

What’s an even bigger hoot is the “godless communism” rap the religious put forth. Apparently they don’t know Heaven is the ultimate communism. If Heaven is truly a paradise where all are freed from want and need, and all souls must be equal in the eyes of the Lord, no heavenly soul may possess regret, or any other Earthly emotion which leads humans to Wisdom. To maintain this equality, these hard-won possessions must be surrendered at the Gates by those who would enter the Kingdom. To embrace Christian dogma, one must also give a big hug to the concept of a communistic afterlife.

  25. unbelievable Says:

I’ve always wondered why she oozes such bilious rage.

People with no love for themselves cannot have it for others (not exactly bumpersticker material - maybe a fortune cookie?)

  29. NewNameAcquired Says:

ALSO CONSIDER #13… all those shows she has been on - they don’t bring her own to hear facts, they bring her on for ratings because they know she’s sure to say outlandish things. Remember… SENSATIONALISM seems to be more important than facts with the MSN.

  30. redneck hick Says:

I love Ann because everytime she publishes a book the LLL m0ob@+5 go a little bit more nuts.

    Comment by Retired Republican Soldier

At least you’re honest enough to admit that your hatred for a certain class of people takes precedent over what is best for the country.

  31. Bruce Gorton Says:

A new book title for anyone wanting to take down the right:

Same Old Shit, Different Cow; An Examination of Propaganda, Past, Present and Future.

  32. pete Says:

A Harpie is a monster from Greek mythology. Part woman, part bird, they tend to be relentlessly screech and harass heroic figures - most notably Jason, of Argo and Golden Fleece fame.

  33. Briseadh na Faire Says:

ummm, anybody notice that Retired Republican Soldier #13 plagerized in his post supporting Ann Coulter’s alleged acts of plagerism?

It appears as though he lifted some text from this website http://www.anncoulter.com/ cgi-local/ content.cgi?name=bio
    without proper attribution.

    Care to explain, RRS?

  34. Retired Republican Soldier Says:

What you all fail to grasp is that Ann is entertaining the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy at your expense. The “Jersey Girls” clapping at a bi-partisan hearing to find what happened on 9/11 and prevent the next one was DISPICABLE. In my mind they loose all protection of being a “9/11 widow” when they see that 19 Arab Islamic Terrorists hijack planes and somehow think that Bush not only knew about it but let it happen. If you fail to grasp the fact the MOST Americans know that the Terrorists are to blame and not Bush then you are going to lose a lot more elections. To liberals a cross, the Ten Commandments, prayer, Conservatives, and anything close to morality are all enemies. Ann does nothing but drag the LLL m0onba+ fringe out in the light for all to see. If you can’t stand to look at your own mess then maybe you need to clean it up.

  35. Zookeeper Says:

    #27 - Har·py (här’pÄ“) n., pl. -pies.
Greek Mythology. One of several loathsome, voracious monsters with the head and trunk of a woman and the tail, wings, and talons of a bird.

    A shrewish woman.

  37. redneck hick Says:

The “Jersey Girls” clapping at a bi-partisan hearing to find what happened on 9/11 and prevent the next one was DISPICABLE.

Yes, you prefer the Bush administration trying to stop the hearing. If it were up to Bush, that hearing would never have happened.

If you fail to grasp the fact the MOST Americans know that the Terrorists are to blame and not Bush

Do you give Clinton the same consideration? Because right wing pundits fall all over themselves to blame Clinton for not stopping terrorists.

Bush, however, sat there quietly for 7 minutes after being told America was under attack. Bonehead.

To liberals a cross, the Ten Commandments, prayer, Conservatives, and anything close to morality are all enemies.

If that’s the case, then there are no liberals in San Francisco.

If you can’t stand to look at your own mess then maybe you need to clean it up.

I would give the same advice to Republicans if I thought they were capable of cleaning.

Thanks for enlightening us, Retired Republican Bonehead. Now, if only the liberals you describe actually existed, you won’t have to think about how Bush kissed the King of Saudi Arabia right after 9/11.

  38. redneck hick Says:

My mistake, I thought Retired Republican Soldier was capable of an original thought.

If this election season is any indicator, most retired soldiers become Democrats.

No, they are the icons of irrational belief. That they sometimes foster positive behavior by their adherents must be balanced by the barbarities commited in their name. You take the good with the bad. An honest intellect would acknowledge both.

  44. Bruce Gorton Says:

43: Besides that, lets say that the Christian faith is accurate; if you were Jesus and you came back to earth, what event wouldn’t you want to be constantly reminded of?

  45. Zookeeper Says:

    #44 - You’ve got a point there, Bruce.

  46. unbelievable Says:

    Comment by Bruce Gorton — June 12, 2006 @ 5:52 pm

How funny you are Bruce! Thanks for the laugh.

I think it was lenny Briuce who said that if Jesus had been alive in the 1970’s, Catholic school children would all be wearing little electric chairs around their necks….

  47. Krazny Says:

Being a christian, I know suprise suprise a liberal who has a belief in god, the crucifixion and resurection of Chris is the foundation of the christian church. So I have to disagree with Wayne on whether jesus would want to be reminded of it.

  49. Briseadh na Faire Says:

#47 - I would agree with you. He was always more concerned with what was in your heart than with external symbols anyway. Too many people wear the symbol, but do not live its meaning.

Peace and Blessings be with you. From what I’ve seen of your writings, you do live your faith.

    comment by Zookeeper

    To Zookeeper
Both Ann-thrax Coulter and Keith Olbermann attended Cornell University, which is a member of the Ivy League that includes Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Yale, etc.

  54. SKdeA Says:

I am pretty sure that if Bush didn’t know, Cheney did. Unfortunately, we are not supposed to talk about 9/11 theories on TP, because when you follow the money, it all leads back to the same point… Come on guys, why NOT talk about it? What’s the big deal?
I am a fairly recent follower of poilitics (about two years of real attention) and even I (in my former ignorance) watched the towers fall and said to myself “this looks like an inside job”.
So, Mr. RRS (you cute little plagiarist you), let’s see who’s right… history will tell.

  55. FedUp Says:

I hate AC, but this is a stretch.

  56. Lora Says:

I myself am not quite ready to say 9/11 was an inside job. However, the fact that a company run by Marvin Bush, George’s youngest brother, was in charge of security at the World Trade Center is rather creepy and a matter that should not be easily overlooked.

  57. Zookeeper Says:

#54 - Thanks for that, Lora.

  58. Zookeeper Says:

    Ann Coulter definition: oral slut

  61. Cyra Brown Says:

  62. Zookeeper Says:

    Silly person.
    Comment by Cyra Brown

    Silly plagarizer.

  63. JIMBO Says:

Lora, I just can’t imagine how Keith Olbermann survived having being in the same college with that skank that’s supposed to pass off as a woman. Hell, she’s not even human. But, Keith pulled through to have a successful career on ESPN and MSNBC. I’m looking forward more than ever to September when his book comes out.

  64. Zookeeper Says:

Cool! JIMBO, I didn’t know Keith has a book coming out, I’m so excited.

  65. Ho Chi Minh Says:

#60 shouldn’t that be anal slut?

  66. Lora, who has 1 husaband, 4cats Says:

Lora, I just can’t imagine how Keith Olbermann survived having being in the same college with that skank that’s supposed to pass off as a woman.
    comment by JIMBO

    JIMBO,
I didn’t see the broadcast referred to, so I don’t know whether or not Olbermann was actually acquainted with Ann-thrax at Cornell. It’s a pretty big school–larger enrollment than most of the other Ivies, so it’s possible he didn’t know her/him back then. And in reality, did you like everyone you went to school with? I certainly didn’t. At college/university, it’s the Admissions Office that selects your classmates–not you yourself.

  67. Ken Daves Says:

None of her thoughts are original. They’ve all been fed to her. She probably doesn’t even know she plagiarized. She probably doesn’t even know what’s in the book, she only knows what she’s been programmed to say.

    She. It.

  68. Lora Says:

why is anything liberals disagree with labeled “hate speech”?

    Comment by Chris

    To Chris,
We, in fact, don’t label everything we disagree with as hate speech. I often don’t agree with David Brooks of the conservative “National Review,” for example, but he also doesn’t lower himself to hateful statements like calling the widows who saw their husbands burn alive “harpies” and saying that they’re enjoyiing their deaths, or that he is “no fan of the First Amendment” and that the “only way to talk to liberals is with a baseball bat.” Come to think of it, Ann-trhax Coulter was dismissed from the “National Review,” because her writings were regarded as too vitriolic even for a magazine with impeccable conservative credentials.
And don’t bother spewing the sort of venom I’ve seen on your other posts at me; I won’t answer them and simply put another Troll Alert on you.

  69. Rix Says:

Would it really surprise anyone that Coulter is a plagiarist as well!

  70. Rix Says:

    Chris,

do you know the definition of hate speech and since i can only assume that u are a conservative you clearly don’t!

  73. purvis ames Says:

Give the poor girl a break. She’s far too busy making public appearances than to actually write something.

  74. vindizzy Says:

I love Ann - thrax. I will definately use that. But remember that Anthrax is deadly, just like this harpie. We need her to get past these 15 minutes of fame and go away.
She’s laughing all the way to the bank at a lot of peoples expense. I think we should challenge Bill Maher to not have her on his show.
How anyone can defend her is beyond my understanding, just like a terrorist mind, I find that incomprehensible also.
Oops, Ann - thrax is that a liberal in me speaking out.
